Ek Thi Daayan – Box Office Thread

Ek Thi Daayan had an average opening of around 30-40%. The opening was better than last week’s two releases Nautanki Saala and Commando (only at multiplexes, not single screens) but lower than Chasme Baddoor released a couple of weeks back.

The opening is not upto the mark for an Emraan Hashmi starrer but that is probably due to the fact that the promos did not show that it was a usual Emraan Hashmi film or an out and out horror film which would have added hugely to opening.

The film is pretty safe as far as recovery is concerned due to low costs but theatrically it will depend on what happens on Saturday at multiplexes as it will find it tough going at single screens.

Though the movie has a average start, I am sure it will pick up on Saturday and Sunday being best. As opposed to BOI, I do believe that ETD will have a good single screen run too.

Ek Thi Daayan had an average start but picked up in the afternoon and is looking at a 6 crore nett first day or at worst very close to it. The film has performed pretty well at multiplexes especially the premium ones.

Rajasthan has collected around 32 lakhs on day one which is in the same range as Chasme Baddoor but the big cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkatta and Bangalore have collected more than film. Also the release is wider by around 100-150 screens.

The figure may not be the sort expected of an Emraan Hashmi starrer but with the film having little for the masses it has come out with a good first day.

Ek Thi Daayan struggled over the weekend as the film showed no growth on Saturday or Sunday. the collections on Saturday were lower than Friday while Sunday showed limited growth as against Saturday.

The first weekend was around 15.50 crore nett with biggest contributions coming from Mumbai and Delhi/UP grossing 5.25 crore nett and 3.25 crore nett respectively. East Punjab grossed 1.25 crore nett with all other circuits giving contribution less than 1 crore.

Aashiqui 2 Has Decent Opening But Iron Man Better

    Thursday 25th April 2013 10.00 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Aashiqui 2 took a decent opening especially in places like UP, Rajasthan and CI due to the hit music. At places it managed 50% collections but others were a low as 25%. On average its a 35-40% opening. The opening is pretty decent for a non star cast film.

The big cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore were all about Iron Man which took a very good opening in 3D and a good opening in 2D. The film has opened to collections in the 50-60% on average.

The early trends are that Iron Man will have better collections in the metros while Aashiqui 2 will score better in UP, Bihar, CP Berar, CI and Rajasthan though the gap in collections in places like Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore is likely to be very big in favour of Iron Man.

Aashiqui 2 Has Decent Opening Day

    Saturday 28th April 2013 10.00 IST
    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Aashiqui 2 had a decent first day collecting around 5.25 crore nett as it had collections in UP, CP Berar, CI and Rajasthan. Gujarat also performed pretty well.

The collections in Mumbai city and Delhi city were on the lower side while Bangalore was low as it was hit hard by Iron Man 3 which was excellent in Bangalore.

The collections in Delhi/UP were a good 1.25 crore nett as despite Delhi city being on the lower side, UP made up for it. East Punjab and West Bengal had average performance. The film will need healthy growth on Saturday and if metro multiplexes can grow well the film has chances for a decent run over the whoile week.

    Monday 29th April 2013 11.00 IST
    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Aashiqui 2 had a good weekend as it grossed around 17.75 crore over the weekend. The weekend growth was not huge but it still managed some growth on Saturday and decent growth on Sunday.

The film did best at mass centres with multiplex dominating areas like Mumbai, Delhi city and Mysore underperforming possibly due to Iron Man 2 and East Punjab underperforming due to 2/3 Punjabi films dominating that market.

The film has been give at a fair rate to distributors so even though there is Shootout At Wadala next week it will cover costs for distributors in 4/5 days. The weekend breakdown was as follows.

    Friday – 5,30,00,000
    Saturday – 5,70,00,000
    Sunday – 6,80,00,000

    TOTAL – 17,80,00,000

Aashiqui 2 Grosses 47 Crore In Two Weeks

Aashiqui 2 had a good second week despite the release of Shootout At Wadala as it collected 13 crore nett taking the two week total to 47 crore nett approx.

The film is sure to cross 50 crore nett and could even do it by the end of the third weekend. The film is a bigger hit than the other sleeper hits of the past two years like Murder 2 and Kahaani. It has the same budget as Murder 2 but has already crossed the share of that film and will also cross the share of Kahaani soon and is also less costly than that film.

Aashiqui 2 should finish with business in the 52-55 crore nett range.

Aashiqui 2 Is BLOCKBUSTER: Heads For 70 Crore Plus Business

    Saturday 18th May 2013 10.30 IST
    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Aashiqui 2 has emerged a blockbuster as it is sure to cross 70 crore nett and may even go to around 75 crore nett. Vishesh Films which are known to give sleeper superhits have even surpassed themselves with Aashiqui 2 which is the biggest hit ever from the banner.

The film has remained unaffected by the new releases be it Shootout At Wadala, Go Goa Gone or this week’s Aurangzeb. The film is likely to stay strong at the box office until the release of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani releasing the week after next.

The film which had a production budget of 6 crore and a further 6-7 crore cost of promting and releasing will eventually do a distributor share in India of around 34-35 crore. The first three week collections of Aashiqui 2 are as follows.

Week One – 34.65 crore nett
Week Two – 17.35 crore nett
Week Three – 11.50 crore nett

    TOTAL- 63.50 crore nett

Week two dropped 50% while week three dropped just 34% which is just outstanding as 60% week to week drop is the norm today.
