Hollywood/Foreign Movies that could have a remake in Bollywood sputnik, June 17, 2013March 11, 2014 In Bollywood, movies are usually inspired/copied from Hollywood but this post is about movies that could have an official remake in Bollywood. The PrestigeSynopsis: Based on the highly acclaimed novel by Christopher Priest, The Prestige is set against the backdrop of Victorian London. It is the mysterious story of two magicians whose intense rivalry leads them on a life-long battle for supremacy full of obsession, deceit and jealousy with dangerous and deadly consequences.Ever since I saw this movie I have thought they should remake this movie in Hindi with Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. It would need great writing skills to adapt this movie into the Indian context but I think it would be great if Aamir and SRK starred in a movie like this. I think the real life rivalry will add to the movie. Hugh Jackman’s role will have to be made more even with Christian Bale’s role though. My choices. Aamir Khan in Hugh Jackman’s role. Shah Rukh Khan in Christian Bale’s role. Katrina or Deepika could play Scarlett Johansson’s role. Amitabh could play Michael Caine’s role.————————— In the Line of FireSynopsis: In this taut thriller, a warped yet ingenious killer taunts a veteran Secret Service agent who’s haunted by his failure years ago to save President Kennedy — and unable to make the current commander in chief heed the psycho’s assassination threats. This is a movie I think would be perfect for Amitabh Bachchan. It would need some effort to adapt it to the Indian context. I think Amitabh could be great in Clint Eastwood’s role – that of the agent who blames himself for not protecting the President and who is now old. I think Irfan Khan would be great in the role that John Malkovich’s played – as the assassin who keeps taunting Clint Eastwood’s character and plays mind games.Whenever I see Amitabh Bachchan’s recent movies I feel like his talent is not being utilized properly. He is either playing stupid cameos or the same/similar character from Mohabbatein. I think he should just start starring in remakes of Clint Eastwood movies.—————————- TakenSynopsis: A retired CIA agent travels across Europe and relies on his old skills to save his estranged daughter, who has been kidnapped while on a trip to Paris. The movie is a total entertainer. I think Salman would be perfect for this remake. May be Akshay/Vidyut could also do this movie with their expertise in martial arts but I think Salman’s current stardom could make this a big hit. Also nobody thought Liam Neeson could play a role like this and become popular either before this movie. In that way Salman would be good fit for Liam Neeson’s role and he should stay serious and do no comedy in this. They will probably have to change the plot as his girlfriend is kidnapped or make the daughter younger. The fights should stay the same as Taken and not be turned into those stupid over the top south Indian fights. They could even turn this into Ek Tha Tiger sequel and this could be huge at the Boxoffice.——————————Limitless Synopsis: With his writing career dragging and his girlfriend casting him off, Eddie Morra’s life turns around when he takes a drug that provides astonishing mental focus — but its deadly side effects threaten his future.I think this movie should be remade with Hrithik in Bradley Cooper’s role. They both resemble each other and even their acting/mannerisms seem similar. In fact any movie of Bradley Cooper could probably be remade with Hrithik in Cooper’s role. May be they could change the writing career to some thing else and they should probably work on a better ending.I think Hrithik could be very good in this role. Any of the top actresses could play the female lead and may be Amitabh/Rishi Kapoor could play Robert De Niro’s role. This may not turn out to be a big hit or anything like that but it could turn out to be a good movie.——————————- The Man from NowhereSynopsis: A quiet pawnshop keeper with a violent past takes on a drug- and organ trafficking ring in hope of saving the child who is his only friend. Its a slick and stylish action movie. The movie does become all action in the second half with lot of violence. May be they could tone down the gore a bit but I think the movie should stay that way for the most part. They should not add any unnecessary romantic track in the movie. They should not add any songs to this or to any of the movies that I have mentioned in this post.Akshay Kumar or Vidyut Jamwal could both be very good for this remake with their martial arts skills. I think both can be good with the initial low profile role and the emotional bonding with the little girl too.——————————–I will add more movies in comments as I remember. Please add more movies which you think could be remade in Bollywood. good choices.I would like to see tom yum goong remake with vidyut.american beauty remake with srkDOA : Dead or Alive remake with Katrina Kaif, Deepika, Alia bhatt, sasha agha, bruna abdullah, sonal chauhanbasic instinct remake with deepikaocean elevens with aamir, srk, akshay, hrithik, ranbir, salman πLog in to Reply
Thanks Baba.American Beauty would be very tough to remake in the Indian context. Who do you think should do Chris Cooper’s role?Basic Instinct remake won’t happen πOur stars have such egos and are so insecure. Ocean’s Eleven remake with all the top Bollywood stars would be great.Log in to Reply
its not that tough, if bw can make a movie as bold as OMG, then what is amercian beauty? srk is perfect for lester burnham. he is going through a midlife crisis for real. (surrogate baby, and other recent incidents)Log in to Reply
A prestige remake won’t be a remake but butchering of the intricacy of the epistolary structure that makes it much better than the novel upon which it is based. Even our best writers would not be able to come up with the magic of the Nolan bros screenplay. It shouldn’t be freemade.Your choices baffle me, since Aamir himself, alongwith Murugadoss, butchered Memento, under the pretext of adapting it to the Indian taste. SRK for Christian Bale’s Alfred Borden? Seriously?? Let’s accept a simple fact here. We have plenty of actors who can put on six pack, ten packs and all that stuff. But can anyone put his body through so much pressure and lose as much weight as that man did for the machinist? It’s dedication and obsession, more so, that our actors or stars in this case lack, which is entirely what defines Borden. Rather SRK would tailor Borden’s character to meet his style of acting. And why do the same names keep popping when we have great talents like Irrfan, Nawazuddin, Deepak Dobriyal, Jimmy Shergill, Abhay Deol who think in terms of the character? I guess Nolan will finally lose his cool if this freemake happens and rightfully sue the makers. Taken remake would be cool though. But again some unconventional choice like Nana Patekar could work though. Honestly, that man would nail the “I have a certain set of skills …” dialogue. Even Sunny Deol could work. at it’s core, the story is like our 90s actioners like Ghatak, Yeshwant, Krishna, Daava-the challenge etc, with natural and visceral action unlike today’s shitty ones like Dabbangg, Rowdy Rathore with an overdose of slow motion. But Liam Neeson’s casting makes it different.Log in to Reply
Any Hollywood remake could get butchered but this is an optimistic post – thinking the remake would be as good as the original and the performances will be as good as the original. I don’t think Hugh Jackman or Christian Bale’s performances required some exemplary acting talent that others cannot pull off. Christian Bale’s performance in The Prestige did not require any losing/gaining weight. Both the roles require certain charisma or stardom.Yes Aamir butchered Memento by turning it into an OTT South Indian action movie. But if they had stayed true to the original and Aamir tried to act like Guy Pearce instead of Hulk the remake may not have been as big a hit at Boxoffice but it at least would have got critical acclaim and may even have done decently well due to Aamir’s reputation.I have mentioned Irfan for John Malkovich’s role from In the Line of Fire.People need to stop overrating smaller actors and pit them against bigger stars. Even in Hollywood its the big stars that get the main lead roles – Leonardo, Brad Pitt, George Clooney and so on. I don’t see people saying why is Leonardo/Pitt/Clooney in this and not some smaller star but good actor like Terence/Pearce/Cheadle and so on.Brad Pitt was supposed to initially do Memento but Guy Pearce nailed that part. But did Nolan/Scorcese take Guy Pearce in Inception/Shutter Island in a similar role which he could have probably done better based on his act in Memento?Nana Patekar could probably be a unconventional choice just like Liam was. And he can be good in that role too if he does not go hyper like in Yashwant. Agree that Sunny could work too.Log in to Reply
I am all for The PRESTIGE Remake with Shah Rukh, Aamir, Deepika and Anupam Kher(‘Caine’ ka role)..And you silly silly Sputnik… Inspite of being such a huge SRK Fan yourself, How can you even possibly forget ‘THE Notebook’ remake with Shah Rukh and Kajol. π πThey would have Absolutely SMASHED it back in their times. πLog in to Reply
Yes they would have and I think I already mentioned that somewhere else before. They could have remade the movie scene-scene dialogue-dialogue.But Ajay already screwed it up with You Me Aur Hum and Bollywood already adapted that movie into Zindagi Tere Naam with Mithun in it according to some reviews I read.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zindagi_Tere_NaamLog in to Reply
Yeah they can with Hrithik in Cooper’s role. A younger Urmila would have been perfect for Jennifer Lawrence’s role. May be even Anushka can pull it off but then people would be reminded of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi πLog in to Reply
Excellent post and choices Sputnik. Aamir & Srk movie never gonna happen and instead of Aamir, Hrithik could take place of Bale and Srk of Huge Jackman. Even Ranbir & Hrithik could be a good cast for the remake. The Raid Redemption – Vidyut Jamal with some army trained personnel along with Akshay Kumar. The Intouchables – Amitabh (as aristocrat) and Ranbir Kapoor (caretaker)Match Point – Ranbir as tennis pro, Deepika in Scarlet Johnson’s role, Abhay Deol as his brother in-law and Konkana Sen as Ranbir’s wife. The Departed/Internal Affairs – With Hrithik and Ranbir again.Log in to Reply
Thanks. The Intouchables can be remade too but I think with Naseer as a aristocrat and Salman as a caretaker. I think that caretaker role needs a certain bindaas and naughty attitude. Don’t think Salman will do it though and if he did, it may not work at Boxofffice πMatch Point is good choice too.Amitabh could play Jack Nicholson’s role in The Departed and there is Mark Wahlberg’s role for someone too. Will watch Infernal Affairs soon.Log in to Reply
I think Karan Johar and Mohit Suri are going to mess up The Intouchables’ remakeKaran Johar signs Mohit Suri for The Intouchables’ remakeEveryone knows that Karan Johar aka as the ‘Midas Touch’ man is someone who is eternally busy. Adding one more feather to his cap is the fact that, he has now joined hands with Mohit Suri for the remake of The Intouchables, a popular French film.Talking about the deal, Karan said that The Intouchables is one film which he loved and wanted to make. He added that Guneet Monga went to great lengths to acquire the rights for him.Speaking about Mohit, Karan said that he has always admired Mohit’s work since the beginning of his career and that this film was a perfect opportunity for them to collaborate. On the other hand, Mohit said that The Intouchables was one of the loveliest films that he had ever seen and that their remake will have a lot more tears, drama and fun.Mohit added that the film is still in the scripting stages and that the casting decisions are yet to be started.LinkLog in to Reply
Taken can be used as a remake for Ek Tha Tiger 2 – Something like Kid of Katrina & Salman kidnapped by some terrorist organisation may be to retrieve some crucial information from Salman… It will be a good masala entertainer definitely with some slick action hand-hand fight scenes…Log in to Reply
Good Post Sputnik its a different post from others post I appreciate your choices one more movie I want to see Hulk starring Ranbir Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan and Anushka Sharma.Log in to Reply
Interesting post Sputnik.1. I would love to see Aamir/SRK in a Face off remake. SRK as Nicolas Cage and Aamir in the role of John Travalto.2. Sunny as General Maximus in The Gladiator.3. Akki as Neo in The Matrix series, Deepika as Trinity and Irrfan Khan as Morpheus.4. Hrithik as Agent 007 in all the James Bond movies.5. Ranbir as Edward Nortan and John as Brad Pitt (need some acting lessons though) in a Fightclub remake.6. SRK as Leo in a Inception remake with Kajol as his love interest.Aryan, that is a good choice. Liked Baba’s Oceans Eleven choice too. Sputnik’s The Prestige remake is very interesting.Log in to Reply
“Akki as Neo in The Matrix series, Deepika as Trinity and Irrfan Khan as Morpheus”Excellent choice. Was about to mention Akshay in Matrix remake too but got sidetracked.Like Gladiator remake choice.Face Off would be good too. They could even do a Heat remake with Aamir as the cop (Al Pacino) and SRK as the thief (De Niro).Log in to Reply
“Face Off would be good too. They could even do a Heat remake with Aamir as the cop (Al Pacino) and SRK as the thief (De Niro)”I would prefer the other way around. SRK as Al Pacino due to his versatile expressions and Aamir as De Niro as De Niro has been the master of Method Acting and Aamir somehow fits in that category.Log in to Reply
Ranbir has a very week feminist voice and has a slim body as well. Most importantly he does not look like an actor who can pull off dark roles. He would be a terrible miscast for any such roles.Log in to Reply
“Ranbir has a very week feminist voice” – Lol…(I thought Srk’s voice is quite feminist).Log in to Reply
ranbir doesnt have a feminist voice. its just that he has mostly done feminine films π except rocket singh. true he has a slim body but we dont know how he will perform in a manly action role. will have to wait till bombay velvet for that.Log in to Reply
Its Feminine voice not Feminist voice πRanbir was bad in Raajneeti in Al Pacino’s role. He has shown great Boxoffice pull with his latest movie YJHD. But as Baba said its better to wait for Bombay Velvet to see how he does in it before one can start thinking of him in gangster/dark/pyscho roles.@I.One,I went by the role instead of acting/personality wise. Aamir has played the cop a few times and has been good. SRK played the thief/gangster in Don 2 well.Log in to Reply
Sputnik, you’re absolutely right in stating that their roles didn’t require any exceptional acting. But the reason why they were chosen for their respective roles was that they fit the character description. Looking at Bale’s eyes itself convinces me that here is an individual who has devoted his entire life for an obsession. Nolan stated the same reason for choosing him as Bruce Wayne over Jake Gyllenhaal. I never said in my post that Bale’s role for The Prestige required any weight gain/loss. It was for the machinist that he had lost weight. Just wanted to point out to the fact that most of our top stars don’t have the obsession to embody the character they’re playing. Borden’s not about charisma or stardom. He tries to be over the top but lacks the showmanship which gives Angier an edge over him initially. Borden likes to get his hands dirty for the sake of his secret. He is,what at that time was referred to as a working class magician. Though I’m all for SRK for Angier as he is basically more of a showman than a good magician. Brad Pitt wasn’t the star that he is today back then. He was just emerging as an A-list star and had done distinct roles such as 12 Monkeys, Fight Club, Snatch, Se7en. Fight Club had failed miserably back then and it is only now that people have embraced it. He was willing to take risks, something that can be compared with John’s decision to do No Smoking. Ocean’s Eleven gave Brad the bonafide star staus. Of course people bitch about casting stars in roles that are opposed to their image. People whined and cursed back in 2006 when Heath Ledger was cast as the joker. This was inspite of a fresh Oscar nom for Brokeback Mountain. People became angry recently when Tom Cruise was cast as the lead in the remake of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Compare his acting style to that of Robert Vaughn’s refined acting and you’ll see why they whined. Thankfully he has vacated the role. And Nolan chose Dicaprio for Inception because he suggested Nolan to give the script an emotional backbone. Nolan had originally structured it as a heist film at it’s core, which had rendered it superficial. Dicaprio provided the missing piece of the puzzle in pointing out that Cobb’s motivation had to be emotional. He stated that the film has to have certain degree of emotional stakes. I am not overrating smaller actors, just stating the fact that some of these guys are more superior actors than the top stars. However, Angier’s part would require a star like Hrithik or Emraan Hashmi. So I think SRK would be fit for that role. Btw,you didn’t state who would you cast for David Bowie’s role.Sorry for the long and tiresome post.Anyway, here’s my list:Bloodsport- Obviously Vidyut.Escape from New York- Ajay Devgan as Snake PlisskenA fistful of dollars- Sonu Sood/ Randeep HoodaA clockwork Orange- Ranbir as Alex Delarge.Spy Game- Dharmendra for Robert Redford and Farhan for Brad Actually, I wanted Jeetendra for Redford but seems he’s stopped doing movies.Log in to Reply
I initially thought of SRK as Angier too because he is the showman but its hard to imagine SRK in Angier’s character going through all that effort to get back at Borden. It goes more with Aamir’s perfectionist image. They could switch the showman characteristic to Borden and make Angier the hardworking magician. Can’t think of who would be good for David Bowie’s role. It will have to be someone unconventional – may be Pankaj Kapoor? Its been a while since I saw A Fistful of Dollars. Have not seen those movies except Spy Game. Dharmendra would be good in Robert Redford’s role and Farhan can be good too. Hrithik would be good in Brad’s role too.No need for Sorry. Long posts and comments are always welcome πLog in to Reply
A clockwork Orange- Ranbir as Alex Delarge.!!!!!kamaal karte ho yaar…..Ranbir itna bhi talented nahi hai…..My choice would be Zeishan Quadri (the guy who played Definite) from Gangs of Wasseypur.Log in to Reply
Its funny…I was trying to think who could play the leads part for a Blue Valentine adaptation and honestly, couldn’t think of anyone.I dont think we have any mainstream actors who could play complex characters..I think Vidya Balan or Rani Mukherjee can still pull off the female part..but couldn’t think of a single male lead to play Gosling’s role.I think, as a stand alone act, Gosling part is not that difficult to portray but within the context of that film and replicating that environment (between the leads) is where our actors would mainly falter.Naseer/Kamal could do it..but they are too old for that role.Maybe Abhay Deol– not too sure though.(He did pull off a fantastic DevD and Manorama Six feet under)P.S. I dont think Aamir/Srk can do a prestige.I agree with Sputnik’s choice of Hrithik for limitless and Baba’s choice for action stars. This thread makes me revisit my belief that Bollywood actors are really pale in comparison to the international actors.Log in to Reply
Ryan Gosling character can be enacted by Ajay Devagan n female part by Aishwarya as raincoat part2. I felt rain coat was a lot better than blue valentine tough i liked blue valentine very much.Log in to Reply
I think Abhay can play that role based on Dev.D and even Ranbir can play that role if he is in that Rockstar second half mode.Log in to Reply
Spuntik/Fs,Ya Abhay is my pick too…Not Ranbir or Ajay….Re Ajay- I loved Raincoat (and also second half of U me aur Hum too) but I think Gosling’s character was more complexed in the sense that it wasn’t intense…it was easygoing, clueless and complicated and in a way helpless…Ajay can carry off intense roles but I dont see him doing justice to this one..Re Ranbir- I dont think very highly of his Rockstar’s acting…It was good but nothing great.Log in to Reply
Same way I could not think of anyone who can play Michael Corleone, character of Al Pacino in The Godfather or even as Vito Corleone for the character played by Marlon Brando. These two were epic of onscreen performances (purely my view).Log in to Reply
There is bundle of talent in our industry just tht we don’t encourage it as audience. We are driven by superstardom than talent. Its very rare that we as auduence universally accept and encourage a new talent for ex – Aditya.Log in to Reply
Whats so great about Aditya’s Acting…He was there in AR, LD, Guzarish too..I think he acted fine in those movies but nothing comparable to anyone else we have mentioned on this thread…even in Aashiqui 2 too, he was good but nothing memorable.I agree that we have have loads of talent, but one of the reasons why our acting talents are rarely showcased is because I think bollywood believes in a certain format of acting where it should be visible that they are acting.Log in to Reply
There was nothing so great about the film nor his character & acting, still he managed to entertain the audience and I believe little success of YJHD should also be credited to Aditya’s recent success.Today he may not be great but tomorrow he will be as he has immense potential & natural talent to compete with the bestLog in to Reply
Sputnik, Watch Bloodsport if you’re a martial arts and especially Van Damme fan. I only stated Ranbir for Alex coz I want to see if he can do something as drastically out of his comfort zone as that. He may not have the chops to pull it off, but at least our stars should start taking risks with scripts and trust the writers. I’m not jumping on the Wasseypur bandwagon unless I see more from these guys. But Zeeshan did show that wild, reckless attitude towards life much like Alex.Suprabh, We have great talent. But certain stars like Aditya, are ‘forced’ on the audiences, I believe. Bhushan Kumar had stated that he auditioned over 100 or so unknown faces. At the end he settled for people from the industry. Also, another obvious fact that there is sycophancy, nepotism. Look at our new stars. Majority of them are connected to some established actor/actress of yesteryears. You got to be over 6 ft tall, possess 6 pack abs, be able to dance. Doesn’t matter if you can’t act. Only then there would be some chance for an outsider to make it in the industry. And the true actors have to play waiters, petty thieves, henchmen for 13-14 years of their lives unless they are spotted by some equally frustrated, struggling director. Moving on,Raiders of the Lost Ark- HrithikDances with Wolves- Difficult one. Abhay seems to have that tender, inquisitive nature alongwith a sense of responsibility that Kevin Costner displays. Btw, Costner almost stole the show in Man of Steel as Jonathan Kent. The Karate Kid (1984)- Rajat Barmecha as Ralph Macchio, Kamal Hassan as Miyagi.Die Hard- Again a 90s ballistic Nana or Irrfan escaping through clutches of death by inches then cussing the sophisticated baddie played by Naseeruddin would be great. Nana and Danny’s phone gaali-galoch after Nana dispatches Danny’s henchman in Krantiveer comes to mind. Part of the fun is casting a late 40s-early 50s actor who can pull off the action without the shitty ssssslow mooootion action.Log in to Reply

Are you serious about Emran Hashmi in One flew over cuckooβs nest in lead role? I liked him in Shanghai but I don’t think he can pull of Jack Nicholson’s character. I read some great comments above and comparisons made but you are forgetting one thing that its directors which make a great movie, of course actors do play a great role but its directorβs vision behind a great movie.I dont think that there is any director right now in our Industry who can pull of Inception, Prestige, Taken or any of the movie mentioned above. that is precisely why this thread is made. we need to come to terms with the bitter truth that most Indian directors, including the topnotch, lack any real imagination.so we are showing them the next best option – copy from the best π to our filmmakers – agar aapko akal na ho, to aap akal khareed loLog in to Reply

The other day i saw “The Graduate” where Hoffkins fucks his father’s business partners wife and later falls in love with her daughter – Emran’s character in Dil to Bachcha hai ji was also same right?Life in a Metro – Sharman Joshi’s character is inspired from the film “The Apartment”. Offers his apartment to his colleagues for material benefits that finally end him up caught between emotions and romance.I think since this generation’s people don’t watch old white and black movies or pre 80’s era, our so called script writers, amalgamate different plots of different films to make a new film. Some one said on twitter the other day – If you copy from one source it’s called Plagiarism but if you copy from different sources, its called Research π Log in to Reply
Yes Sharman Joshi’s character and that story involving him, Kangana and Kay Kay is inspired from The Apartment.Interestingly Bollywood already remade The Apartment as Raaste Kaa Patthar in 1972 with Amitabh Bachchan.https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069152/Yes Boss is similar to For Love or Money which itself seems inspired from The Apartment.Log in to Reply
igurvinderpal, Nailed it!! Jab godown me hi gadbad hai, to maal to kharab nikalna hi hai. I wanted to talk about directors. Our top directors gaining inspiration from the west is good no doubt. Even Nolan is inspired by Kubrick,Fritz Lang, Tarantino by Spaghetti westerns. But how they wove that inspiration in their scripts is what sets them apart. Our scripts should take themes of betrayal, fear, lack of a father figure, etc and present them in the Indian context. By Indian Context, I mean our social fabric, not filling script voids with item numbers or overdose of gaalis to rever Tarantino. Funny thing is Tarantino’s films themselves are masalas inspired by Italian westerns with Ennio Morricone bridging the two. There are vast themes that can be tapped. Sci-fi is one such. Sci-fi doesn’t necessarily mean big budgets, explosions and all. The best sci-fi films at their core are about ideas. 2001, Blade Runner, Alien were done with miniatures. District 9 baffled Hollywood coz they couldn’t comprehend how excellent the vfx was for a small budget film. We can expect our upcoming regional filmmakers with tackling such themes. But the regional cinema is driven primarily by social issues. But these fellows generally lose their voice and their touch when they transition to Bollywood. That’s why Girish and Umesh Kulkarni (Deool) are reluctant to enter Bollywood inspite of repeated requests from Anurag Kashyap. We make films like Barfi and even though it’s good, we have to face the fact that we are still infants when it comes to story-telling. We shouldn’t aim for Oscars coz their filmmaking and viewing sentiments are different from ours. Rather we should start telling stories through visuals and sound that tackle universal themes in our voice. Our directors bitch about censorship and political parties banning movies. But I believe they should strucure their screenplays in such ways that the references are hidden under layers. As an example, Nolan exposed the paranoia of U.S., Homeland Security in The Dark Knight with Batman and Fox’s debate over the use of sonar for spying over people. The same concept later developed into Person of Interest. The Late Dada Kondke had a habit for getting into fights with the censor board for his double entendres. Once he got into a spat over an objectionable word which was a slang for penis. But Dada stated that the word existed in Sanskrit vocab and it stood for a herb. He asked for a Sanskrit dictionary to settle the matter and he turned out to be right. The members of the censorboard were baffled by his command over the language and his method of getting his point across through the dialogue. In the 50s we had outcasts like Manto, Yashpal as our writers who made no compromises and stood their ground for what they believed in. Our writers should start writing, not necessarily for films but about anything they feel. The screenwriting aspect comes later.Primer- This, alongwith Inception the best sci-fi film of the last decade. A primer remake can be made for 40,000 rupees.(Obviously ignoring stars) Shane Carruth, an engineer made this film alongwith his friends. Again, the story can happen in any part of the world. Actually I want it remade in our context coz the dialogue is complete jargon and it takes a lot of viewings to get a hand on the mechanics of the story.Dammmit!! Bahut ho gaya bolbacchan. Off to sleep.Log in to Reply
Primer- The most mind blasting movie, I have ever seen..It wont be wrong to say, even Memento seems like child’s play when compared to the “twisted story and execution” of this film. When I first finished watching Primer,,I couldn’t help but watch it again…It left me so restless as to what just happened,,I had to watch it again and again to understand bits and pieces… Normally I dont like such kind of movies where you have to try so hard and I’d assert that perhaps the movie maker should have given more clues/explanations within the movie but I can’t help but say..It is a masterpieceLog in to Reply

“No Smoking”i think we are talking about Hollywood not Gutterwood..!!“Oye Lucky Lucky Oye”agree movie was good but still it was typical Bollywood movie with just one different thing it was really fast paced…rest every single Frame was typical bollywood..!!Fully agree on Johhny Gaddaar, Udaan, Dev D..!!Log in to Reply
@SputnikWell, thats true he may not pull off completely but could not think of any other actor of current gen better than him for that. But its a tough task yes.Havent seen Kyon Ki.@igurvinder – I forgot to put Maqbool and Omkara in that – they definitely are international standard in screenplay, dialogues.Log in to Reply
I just remembered this but I think Ajay Devgn could be very good in the role of Russell Crowe in the remake of The Next Three Days.Log in to Reply
After watching prison break series I watched this movie “next three days” & it looked bad compared to prison break but still i liked the film may be because of Russel Crowe.Log in to Reply
I have watched The Next Three Days and skimmed through the French original Anything for Her. Here are my comments on both the movies.“Watched The Next Three Days Lara Brennan is arrested for murdering her boss with whom she had an argument. She was seen leaving the scene of the crime and her fingerprints were on the murder weapon. With no legal means left to him her husband devises a daring plan to rescue his wrongfully imprisoned wife from jail. The movie is a remake of a French movie Anything for Her (2008) but looks like they made some changes especially at the end. Will try to watch or at least skim through the original to see how it is and comment about that later.Anyways the movie is entertaining though some of things seem implausible. Russell Crowe was good as the husband who rescues his wife. Elizabeth Banks was ok as the wife. Olivia Wilde has a small role. Liam Neeson is good in a small cameo.”https://tanqeed.com/movies-you-watched-this-month-february-2013/#comment-117264“Also skimmed through the French movie Anything for Her. The Next Three Days is pretty much scene to scene dialogue to dialogue remake for the most part. The kid is older in the American version. They added more scenes after he rescues his wife from the hospital and a zoo diversion (which had one stupid scene) to add more drama than the original. Diane Kruger of Troy fame acted better in the original than Elizabeth Banks in the remake.”https://tanqeed.com/movies-you-watched-this-month-february-2013/#comment-117229Log in to Reply
looks like akshay seems to be hearing us“I want to do more villain roles. The first two-and-a-half hour he (villain) gets to enjoy and last five minutes he gets beaten up. It doesn’t matter who beats me up as long as I can enjoy the first two-and-half-hours and the poor hero is slogging,” Akshay told IANS.https://movies.ndtv.com/bollywood/akshay-kumar-s-dark-side-wants-to-be-villain-while-hero-slogs-529112Log in to Reply
