Ek Tha Tiger Has Record Breaking Monday

Ek Tha Tiger broke all box office records for collections on Monday due to the national holiday for Eid. The film collected around 16 crore nett which is a record collection for Monday by a distance. Films like Dabangg and Three Idiots had the biggest collections on a Monday before of around 10.75 crore nett.

The six day total for Ek Tha Tiger is 110 crore nett approx. The collections on Monday were huge at single screens especially in areas dominated by Muslim audiences while multiplexes had larger falls.

Tuesday should also come out with a strong number as single screens remain strong and it may become the highest grossing film of 2012 in just its nine day extended first week.

I guess I said on Thursday itself (on FB) that ETT ll collect 110 cr. till Monday and it seems my prediction have come right on money, though I expected more on Monday. In any case, it is going 160 cr. way.

The numbers that every Salman movie is pulling out is quite incredible. 120 cr in 6 days was the highest end of trade expectations!
Anyways, makes me laugh to think what kind of pressure this puts on SRK-YRF movie to perform (that too with competition from SOS). Even Aamir will have his work cut out – his D3 and PK will need mammoth numbers to keep up with Salman.

I doubt if SRK-YRF film will be able to put up big numbers close to Salman’s because firstly it has competition from SOS. Right now south styled masala is in and SOS might do very well at least at SS.

Two weeks later Talaash will release which will take up all the screen space at the multiplexes. I sense a repeat of Rab Ne vs Ghajini deal.

Ek Tha Tiger Eid Factor – Two Sides Of The Coin: The CRASH

Ek Tha Tiger on Tuesday is behaving very differently at centres across India. Where there is a heavy muslim population the film is holding up with unbelievable figures and in other places it is down heavily.

This can be illustrated with figures from two centres, Lucknow and Gurgaon, both are in North India, the latter being a multiplex heavy centre just outside Delhi and the former being Muslim dominated centre of UP. Both centres are amongst the the top ten grossing centres of India for Hindi films.

Below are the Tuesday figures from Gurgaon which show a huge CRASH with Monday figures in brackets.

    TOTAL – 12,06,155 (33,54,023)

The collections are down 64% in Gurgaon on Tuesday from Monday.
