A Few Good Men Review by Sputnik

A courtroom drama, the film revolves around the court martial of two U.S. Marines charged with the murder of a fellow Marine and the tribulations of their lawyer as he prepares a case to defend his clients.

Its an excellent courtroom drama/thriller which is completely engrossing and does not bore no matter how many times one has seen it. Had written about it in my post on Best Hollywood Courtroom Dramas.

Some scenes are very good like the scenes where Colonel Jessup mocks JoAnne for being a superior to Kafee or the scene where he tells Kaffee to ask nicely. The courtroom scenes are very good. The climax is one of the best ever with the famous Jack Nicholson line “You can’t handle the truth”. Had posted it as Scene of the Week before.

Tom Cruise is very good as Kaffee. Demi Moore is very good as JoAnne Galloway. Kevin Bacon is good as Jack Ross and thankfully its not a stereotypical opposing lawyer role. Jack Nicholson is excellent as Colonel Nathan R. Jessup and was deservedly nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. It is one of his career best performances.

Kiefer Sutherland is very good as Kendrick. Kevin Pollak is good as Sam Weinberg. Wolfgang Bodison is excellent as Harold Dawson. James Marshall is very good as Louden Downey. J. T. Walsh is very good as Markinson. The rest of the cast is good too.

The movie was nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Jack Nicholson, Best Film Editing and Best Sound Mixing.

Screenplay by Aaron Sorkin is excellent. Editing is excellent and there are no unnecessary scenes in the movie. Direction by Rob Reiner is excellent. A Few Good Men is excellent and one of the best courtroom dramas ever.

Highly Recommended
