      1. Used to hate Potli Baba Ki serial because it was just a puppet show instead of animation. Used to initially not like the song either because of the weird lyrics.

        Byomkesh Bakshi title track was good. Love the music.

        Wanted to make this post since a long time but could not find many of the songs online the last time I searched.

        There used to be a TV Serial called Imtihan which used to air on DD Metro in 90s. Used to like the title song “Chalte Huve Paayega Tu Manzil Gam Se Na Dar Gam Se Hi Hogi Khushi Haasil” sung by Abhijeet a lot but could not find it online.

        1. Same case here, abt Potli Baba Ki. But now in nostalgia I like it.

          Karamchand I used to like a lot but the title is not very good and Tehkikaat is far better title music song than that.

  10. just saw the mahabharata title song. there is no doubt about its glorious history and why it was the most successful show on indian tv of all time.a tv show based on hindu mythological characters has opening credits title in english , hindu and urud. we are talking about good old days when religion was not needed to be forced down anyones throats and ppl of all religion used to watch , admire and respect each characters from mahabharata. i know many muslims who used to religiously watch t

    1. Agree Baba. The Screenplay and Dialogues were by Dr. Rahi Masoom Reza, a Muslim.

      For a brief while there used to be a power cut around the time Mahabharat aired which made people miss like half hour or so. And they changed the timings of the power cut so that people don’t miss Mahabharat. When there was a odd power cut during Mahabharat everyone used to be so restless waiting for the power to come back soon. Those were the days of no reruns on TV.

      2. yes i think it had a very good creative team. mahabharata has since then been remade many times with better technology but they have all flopped. ekta kapoors version was a disaster where her focus was on shampooed hair, six pack abs and roman-like dressing of mahabharata characters! mahabharata was/is never about technology. it is at its core the ultimate study of characters and how they behave in situations.only b r chopra managed to nail this aspect. it is this study of characters that intrigued ppl of any religion to this show

  11. Hardly saw doordarshan as a kid- most of the stuff shared above is new to me. Indian TV was indeed rich once. And Gulzar did so much work for TV in the 80s and the 90s- need to catch up.

    1. Yes Doordarshan used to have really good shows up till the mid 90s even if they were low budget and technically not that great. Many shows used to be based on literary stuff and used to be produced/directed by people like BR Chopra, Ramesh Sippy, Govind Nihalani, Shyam Benegal, Gulzar, Aziz Mirza, Saeed Akhtar Mirza, Lekh Tandon, Ketan Mehta and so on.

  14. Alice In Wonderland Title Track – Tap Tap Topi written by Gulzar. It has the words “Jhubli Jhinak Jhaai” and Pavan Jha tweeted this about those words.

  15. Eminent Cartoonist RK Laxman Dies at 94 in Pune

    RK Laxman, one of India’s most eminent cartoonists, has died at 94.

    Mr Laxman was hospitalized earlier this month for a urinary infection. He was put on ventilator support after multi-organ failure. He had reportedly suffered several strokes since 2010.

    His work, spanning over six decades, chronicled the fortunes and foibles of Independent India.

    Through his iconic character of “The Common Man”, Mr Laxman targeted politicians with sly humour.

    He was best known for fearlessly lampooning political leaders from Jawaharlal Nehru to Atal Behari Vajpayee. He spared no one, not even Indira Gandhi during the Emergency.

    Former union minister Shashi Tharoor had written in his column in NDTV about the time when Jawaharlal Nehru, caricatured by Mr Laxman after the Sino-Indian war in 1962, called him on the phone and said, to his pleasant surprise, “Mr. Laxman, I so enjoyed your cartoon this morning. Can I have a signed enlarged copy to frame?”

    Mr Laxman was born in 1924 in Mysore in a Tamil family. His big career break came in Mumbai first with the Blitz magazine and then at the Free Press journal where he worked alongside another cartoonist, Bal Thackeray, who went on to form the Shiv Sena.

    Mr Laxman joined the Times of India where his front page cartoon became a legend.

    “I begin my day with a look at what the common man is up to,” said former prime minister Manmohan Singh’s wife Gursharan Kaur had once said.

    He won many prestigious awards including the Magsaysay and state awards like the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan. Yet he remained fiercely critical of the political class.

    “I wouldn’t say politicians represent the country. I don’t think they do. They have forgotten the common man, they think the common man belongs to them, to serve them,” Mr Laxman had famously said.

  17. I have been trying to get the title song of the serial “Zamin Aasman”. The lyrics were -“Manzil Raasta Karwan Har Ghadi Hai Imtehan Mile Mile Na Mile Kya Pata Zamin Aasman”- Unfortunately, I have not been succesful. Nowhere it is to be downloaded, in fact you don’t get it at all. I am even ready to pay if necessary. Anybody can help????

  20. Could you please provide me the title songs of old dooradarsan telugu serials i.e., manasu , ahalya , maanasa, aathmeeyulu, vaidehi, kaalachakram, siri, manchu parvatham, lady detective, sakthimaan, aaryamaan, Sri krishna , jai hanuman, ruthuraagaalu etc. Thank you so much !
