Time Lapse: Watch One Earth Year From Space

For the first time, a camera has recorded the entire, fully lit Earth for a year—every day, multiple times a day. At high speed, the world seems to spin in place as each continent experiences its share of daylight. Storms, snow, and even an eclipse pass by. The camera is part of the Deep Space Climate Observatory, a project of NASA, NOAA, and the U.S. Air Force.

Carl Sagan’s reflection on Pale Blue Dot

Pale Blue Dot is a photograph of planet Earth taken on February 14, 1990, by the Voyager 1 space probe from a record distance of about 6 billion kilometers (3.7 billion miles). In the photograph, Earth’s apparent size is less than a pixel; the planet appears as a tiny dot against the vastness of space, among bands of sunlight scattered by the camera’s optics. Voyager 1, which had completed its primary mission and was leaving the Solar System, was commanded by NASA to turn its camera around and take one last photograph of Earth. Carl Sagan’s reflection on Pale Blue Dot is one of the greatest speeches ever.

Here is the Transcript.
