Katrina Kaif to get in shape for an action role Katrina Kaif is tired of roles that only require her to look pretty. She is ready for more, having recently done action sequences in the upcoming movie ” Ek Tha Tiger”, apart from shaping up to do a full-fledged action role in ” Dhoom 3″, where she plays a gymnast.

Actresses performing stunts is not a new phenomenon. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has done some stunt scenes in “Dhoom 2” and “Jodhaa Akbar”, Priyanka Chopra had some action scenes in “Drona”, “Don” and ” Don 2″, while Kareena Kapoor has thrown her share of kicks and punches in ” Agent Vinod”.

Action as a genre is translating into hit films these days, and almost every actor worth his six packs will be seen in an action film this year, including Salman Khan (Ek Tha Tiger), Akshay Kumar (Rowdy Rathore), Ajay Devgn (Tezz) and Hrithik Roshan (Krrish 3).

Actresses don’t want to be left behind, and are now leaping off buildings and indulging in car chases as well.

Kat is so serious about getting it right that she is seeking help from an international fitness instructor to help her train for “Dhoom 3”.

The trainer is presently with her in London, where she is shooting for her film with Shah Rukh Khan. She trains for two hours everyday to strengthen her core muscles and increase stamina and agility. She will be training with him for four months, post which the film goes on floors.

Says a source, “Kat will have hardcore action scenes in “Dhoom 3″, almost at par with that of costar Aamir Khan.”

Since gymnastics involves a lot of physical strength, flexibility, agility and coordination, Kat’s personal trainer Yasmin Karachiwala has planned a new regime for her. She says, “Kat needs to get flexible and lean, so when she returns from London, we will change her workout routine. She needs to do lots of pilates to open up her muscles and increase flexibility, apart from a combination of functional training and TRX to develop core strength. She doesn’t need to look thin, but lean.”

Priyanka Chopra in “Drona”

For the film, trainers from Punjab were called in to educate her in the Sikh martial art Gatka. She played Abhishek Bachchan’s bodyguard and had to learn to use a weapon that looks like a wheel with ropes and small weights attached to it. PC shone with her power-packed stunts.

Deepika Padukone in Chandni Chowk To China

Deepika attempted action for the first time in this film. For three months, she trained in martial arts along with leading man Akshay Kumar to get her moves right. She injured her ankle thrice, but having the stunt choreographer of “Kill Bill”, “Kung Fu Hustle” and “The Matrix” helped her pull through some death-defying stunts.

After playing the stunning chorni in “Dhoom 2”, Aishwarya took up swordfighting for a scene in the film. She learned sword-fighting for 45 days. She has also performed some difficult stunts in “Raavan” and “Endhiran”.
