@Sputnik, nice choices – when such a post was on my mind I thought of including those songs from Saajan, Patthar ke Phool and Sankarabharanam.
Its good that you included ” Mannil Indha Kadhalandri” in the post – probably one of the best of his !
I will include some of my fav! but overall a very balanced post and a great choices !
PS: Saw all the songs and loved them really !
Thanks.
I got the idea for this post because of our email interaction. So thanks for that and reminding me of his birthday.
You can post more Tamil songs of his as you may be more familiar with them.
I think SPB made a big entry in Bollywood with this song (ofcourse if u ignore Ek Duje ke liye songs; but i think that was another generation altogether ) :
You should say re-entry or comeback. Always liked SPB as Salman’s playback voice.
Had posted the song as SOTD here.

Yeah !
I always identify SPB with Salman’s voice, Udit used to be identified with Aamir once, and Abhijit/Kumar sanu with SRK.
Now there is no such thing.
In retrospect; I think the earlier system was good (well atleast I liked it) . We could identify/imagine how the actor behaved on screen with singer’s voice back then !
I had posted this earlier, but I cant find translated lyrics of this song from Gentleman. I will try if I can tralsate. But the song is very good IMO and the beat and the way singers have sung it !
In rough translation, “kettu paar” means “ask and see what I answer”; vittue means house. The lover in short is saying that if you ask me or my house / or my window etc ….who my lover is ….they all will tell his HIS name (her lover’s) ….
Nice Post Sputnik here is my favorite songs of S.P. Balasubramanyam
Pehla Pehla Pyar Hai
Aake Teri Baho Me
Thanks aryan. Love both the songs Pehla Pehla Pyar Hai and Aake Teri Baho Me.
Sagar Se Gehra Hai Pyar Hamara Song – Majhdhaar
Rasiga Rasiga Tamil Song
I thought the song sounded like another song that I heard before. The music is by Rahman and it turns out that he recycled his song Rang De from the movie Thakshak. Here is the song Rang De.
Had posted this in the Janaki thread.
Love this song. Malai koil vasalil – by Ilayraja
One of the best by SPB and my fav too (of Rajni ofcourse) :

The evergreen Kannada song:
Lovely song. Ilaiyaraaja reused it as Jaane Do Na song in Cheeni Kum.
I was thinking of creating a post on Best Songs of S. P. Balasubrahmanyam after finding about his death yesterday. Did not remember that I had already created this post 6 years back.
RIP SPB. One of the greatest singers of Indian cinema.
