Gori Tere Pyaar Mein And Singh Saab The Great Open Below The Mark

Friday 22nd November 2013 12.30 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Gori Tere Pyaar Main and Singh Saab The Great both opened below the mark. Gori Tere Pyaar Mein opened to a poor 25-30% all over. Singh Saab The Great managed good to decent collections in some parts like Punjab, UP and Rajasthan of around 40-50% but places like Pune, Bangalore and Kolkata were just 15-20%. At some single screen centres in the North it was housefull or near housefull but it makes little change to the overall picture.

Both films will have similar opening day collections going by the opening with Gori Tere Pyaar Mein coming out ahead in some circuits and Singh Saab The Great leading in others.

Both films will depend on the growth they can get on Saturday and Sunday and the competition will not be just between both films but also Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram – Leela which could even lead in Gujarat and other parts of Mumbai circuit over the second weekend.

Gori Tere Pyaar Mein First Day Business

    Saturday 23rd November 2013 10.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Gori Tere Pyaar Mein had very poor collections of 2.50 crore nett approx on day one and did poor all over. The collections at single screens were expected to be more but multiplex figures were a shocker as they should have done much better especially for this genre.

The circuit figures were dull over with Delhi/UP collecting just 60 lakhs nett approx and East Punjab just 20 lakhs nett and when these two circuits don’t perform for multiplex film like Gori Tere Pyaar Mein then the film has no chance.

The collections across mass centres like CPCI, Bihar and Rajasthan were just awful while South India was slightly better probably due to the fact Singh Saab The Great was awful in South.

Singh Saab The Great First Day Business

    Saturday 23rd November 2013 10.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Singh Saab The Great had a poor first day of around 4.75-5 crore nett with most of the contribution coming from single screens as its multiplex business was even lower than Gori Tere Pyaar Mein outside East Punjab and mass circuits.

The film was best in East Punjab as expected with 65 lakhs nett and Delhi/UP grossed around 1.10 crore nett mainly due to single screens in UP. Bihar also did decent grossing around 20 lakhs nett but circuits like Mysore and West Bengal were awful.

The film is mainly for single screens and in today’s times single screens alone can’t take you far unless they do phenomenal for 3-4 weeks and that is an unlikely scenario for any film due to release patterns today.

Singh Saab The Great Weekend Business

    Monday 25th November 2013 11.00 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Singh Saab The Great had poor figures over its first weekend as it grossed 14.25 crore nett. The film collected better than the other new release Gori Tere Pyaar Mein but collections were lower than what they should have been as multiplex business remained dull over the weekend. The film fared better in East Punjab due to the local content.

The single screens were just about decent at places but in business terms being decent at select single screens does not take you far. The daily weekend breakdown of the film is as follows.

    Friday – 4,75,00,000

    Saturday – 4,25,00,000

    Sunday – 5,25,00,000

    TOTAL – 14,25,00,000

Gori Tere Pyaar Mein First Weekend Business

    Monday 25th November 2013 10.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Gori Tere Pyaar Mein did very poor business of just 8.75 crore nett in its first weekend. The film was poor all over with its target audience which was multiplexes failing to collect. The daily weekend breakdown of the film is as follows.

    Friday – 2,50,00,000

    Saturday – 3,00,00,000

    Sunday 3,25,00,000

    TOTAL – 8,75,00,000

The film is a disaster and may just end up with 15 crore nett lifetime collections which actually are much lower than what its weekend ought to have been.

Anyone else surprised by the collections of Kareena-Imran starrer Gori Tere Pyaar Mein? After the theatrical trailer, it was pretty clear this film is going to flop, but even then, ~9 cr first weekend and lifetime predictions of 15 crore is unimaginable. Even a disaster like Joker, which was disowned by its lead actor, and which had absolutely nothing going for it, collected ~20 cr lifetime. Even a bomb like Zanjeer remake made 18 cr. For crying out loud, even a washout like Policegiri made ~17 cr or trash like Zila Ghaziabad made ~16 cr. It is very surprising to see a Kareena starrer make lesser. I expected the movie to fizzle out like Ek Main Aur Ek Tu after a wobbly start (12-14 cr weekend, 25-30 cr lifetime). 15 crore lifetime is shocking and a warning bell for Kareena (who left Ram Leela for this movie), and Imran Khan (who needs to stop working in films).

Gori Tere Pyaar Mein And Singh Saab The Great First Week Business

    Friday 29th November 2013 14.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Gori Tere Pyaar Mein collected a very poor 12.50 crore nett in week one while Singh Saab The Great was better at 21 crore nett but still poor. Gori Tere Pyaar Mein has gone into week two with limited screenings at multiplexes is unlikely to add much more business.

Singh Saab The Great did fair business in East Punjab and the smaller centres of UP, Bihar, MP and Rajasthan but its metro business was extremely dull. If the film had performed well in the A class centres of these areas then it would have made a big difference to the film. The film will basically collect from East Punjab and low collecting single screens in week two but 30 crore lifetime business looks a step too far.

Gori Tere Pyaar Mein managed to put up better figures than Singh Saab The Great in Mysore and Tamil Nadu/Kerala while elsewhere Singh Saab The Great was ahead.
