Commando Scores Over Nautanki Saala!
by Soumita Sengupta (April 12, 2013)
This week, we have Rohan Sippy’s romantic comedy Nautanki Saala! featuring Ayushmann Khurrana and Kunaal Roy Kapur pitted against Vipul Shah’s Commando, an action film, featuring Vidyut Jamwal, Pooja Chopra and Jaideep Ahlawat, and debutante director Dilip Ghosh. Distributors feel both films will generate good numbers at the ticket counter, but will appeal to different kinds of audience. While they expect Commando to rule the single-screens, Nautanki Saala! is more likely to do well at the multiplexes. Distributors also wager that Commando will take the lead during the course of today.
In Mumbai, Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines says, “Commando has opened very well in single-screens whereas Nautanki Saala! has opened better in multiplexes. This means, both films have opened equally well all-India and in Mumbai, with a 20-30 per cent opening.”
According to Brijesh Tandon of HK Tandon and Company, distributors in Delhi-UP have hopes of a prosperous weekend as Nautanki Saala! and Commando have promising newcomers whose films have done well in the past. “Nautanki Saala! opened at 20-30 per cent whereas Commando opened at 50 per cent in Delhi-UP. Reports of both films are good. Since one is an action film and the other a comedy, there is something for everyone this Friday.”
Jaspal Dhingra of Nanaskar Enterprises from East Punjab reveals, “Nautanki Saala! took a slow start at 20 per cent compared to Commando, which opened at 40 per cent. Reports of Commando are far better than those of Nautanki Saala!. But I have a feeling that Commando will take the lead over the weekend.”
In Rajasthan, Gaurav Gaur of O’Real Imagination adds, “Nautanki Saala! took an opening of 20 per cent and Commando 25 per cent. Reports of Commando are better than those of Nautanki Saala!, and the latter is expected to sustain only till the weekend. From Monday onward, only Commando will generate good business.”
Things don’t look very favourable for Nautanki Saala! even in West Bengal. Debashish Dey of Aum Moviez mentions, “The opening of Nautanki Saala! was 25 per cent whereas Commando opened at 35 per cent. Besides, the reports of Commando are better and that’s odd because we expected Nautanki Saala! to open very well, thanks to Ayushmann Khurrana’s fan following. But that didn’t happen.”

Saw the reviews its clear that without masala such axn movies wont be big in india.. though vidyut is being praised .. great to se ehis hard work being acknowledged 🙂 , i hope akshay also see thsi and understand what ppl want from him and what was he loved for in SS
iam awaiting the first day collections 🙂 hope 3 ho kam se kam 🙂
Manish Kumar agreed. as much as most of indians complain about masala films, they want all the cheap thrills of the masala. 😉 and commando is not total action like the lee or jaa films. it has some dose of romance and masala. but this can be a good start.its a step in right direction
Manish Kumar yes even i am surpirsed to see so many latent akshay fans of khiladi action. akshay needs to seriously consider doing one serois action film soon
Baba Ji u know Dhiren Narang is one fan who wants a Complete axner with no BS comedy like me in an akshay movie .. Hope thuppakki or Boss ( merelyy because Anthony is making it he keeps kam bullshit as far as i have gt to know abt him) do that job …. RR vikram rathore is liked by many ppl more than shiva of RR .. because thats what they areitching to see ..
BTW we can have a good axn scenes involving various martial arts form in masla movie … villains not necessarily have to fly or jeep to be broken with a kick
Commando Scores; Nautanki Saala! Disappoints
by Soumita Sengupta (April 12, 2013)
It seems IPL fever has fizzled out as both the releases this week, Nautanki Saala! and Commando, are doing pretty well at the ticket counter. However, across opening day today, Commando took the lead scored by leaps and bounds over Nautanki Saala! Distributors believe that Nautanki Saala! will sustain only till the weekend while Commando will hold steady next week as well. Commando and Nautanki Saala! are expected to garner over Rs 3.5 crore and Rs 2.5 crore all-India NBOC on their first day, respectively.
In Mumbai, Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines says, “All-India, I am expecting Commando to cross Rs 3.5 crore and in Mumbai it will earn around Rs 1.25 crore because most of the evening shows are house full. Reports of the film are also good and it should generate great returns over the weekend.
On the other hand, Nautanki Saala! hasn’t turned out to be as good a product as expected. It did not open well and hasn’t grown across today. It might reach Rs 2.5 crore all-India and in Mumbai Rs 75 lakh to Rs 1 crore.”
According to Brijesh Tandon of HK Tandon and Company, distributors in Delhi-UP had high hopes of Nautanki Saala! but they were disappointed. “In the morning, Commando was doing well in single-screens but with subsequent shows, it did good business in multiplexes too. It will generate Rs 80 lakh in Delhi-UP whereas I doubt Nautanki Saala! will even reach Rs 50 lakh.”
In East Punjab, Swaraj Pal Singh Siddhu of Sunny Moviez 01 adds, “None of the films has done extraordinary business in East Punjab. Commando will cross Rs 10 lakh whereas Nautanki Saala! did just about okay. Commando has mass appeal and is likely to do well at single-screens over the week.”
In Rajasthan, Gaurav Gaur of O’Real Imagination adds, “Nautanki Saala! tanked badly but Commando is holding strong since the evening shows. Nautanki Saala! will earn around Rs 13 lakh in Rajasthan whereas I’m sure Commando will cross Rs 15 lakh.”

I want a Hollywood-ish Axn movie from him, where theres no comedy, drama and other distractions. I want more of an Action thriller, with a strong script and strong villain.
Commando 3.5 cr day 1
Commando First Day Business

Commando had a reasonable first day of around 3.50 crore nett as it did well in mass circuits. The collections were excellent in Bihar while other circuits outside North India also did pretty well. Delhi/UP and East Punjab were the low performers and these circuits did not collect well.
Commando has performed well in circuits where films without any face value never open well. It is probably due to the action but some circuits have surprisingly given good collections on day one.
The multiplex business is not upto the mark but the film may score on the strength of single screens. A pick up at multiplexes especially in North on Saturday would mean the film will go through comfortable.

That’s good. So Vidyut beat Ayushmann Khurana (who was called a star after VD) for the first day collections.
yes and now BOI seems positive on commando. looks like it has good wom
I think Commando would have released much more widely.
Commando released on 1500 screens
while Nautanki saala released on 900 screens..

Nautanki Saala First Day Business

Nautanki Saala grossed around 3 crore nett on day one as it was better in the evening at multiplexes of big cities. The film has done better in Delhi and East Punjab where it has collected 80 and 40 lakhs respectively but other circuits are not so strong.
Basically it has scored over Commando in Delhi/UP and East Punjab but was lower in rest of India and a lot lower in many circuits. The better collections in the evening meant it got closer to Commando as initial figures suggested a 30% gap between the films but actually it came out to be 15% at the end of the day.
The collections in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Nizam, Central and Eastern India were low. The film is dependent on Saturday growth at multiplexes and will have to depend on business in Mumbai city, Delhi city, East Punjab and Bangalore as rest are not likely to do well.

Commando Down Slightly Nautanki Saala Shows Growth
Sunday 14th April 2013 13.30 IST
Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network
Commando dropped slightly on Saturday as it grossed around 3.25-3.50 crore nett against the 3.50 crore nett on Friday while Nautanki Saala showed good growth collecting around 3.75-4 crore nett on Saturday against the 3 crore nett on Friday.
Both films were up at multiplexes but Commando dropped at places where it had started well and these places were mainly single screen dominated circuits.
Both films have similar two day business of around 7 crore nett and Sunday becomes the all important day. It will be interesting to see which film comes out on top as after two days the nett business is the same though Commando is still ahead on the all important distributor and the costs involved in the two films are also similar.
