Zero Movie Review by Sputnik

The story revolves around Bauua Singh (Shah Rukh Khan), a vertically challenged man, who is full of charm and wit, with a pinch of arrogance. Born to a wealthy family and raised in an environment of affluence and indulgence, Bauua was never failed by Meerut or its people. But when he meets two women (Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif), his experiences with these women take him on a journey to complete his ‘incompleteness’ and broaden his horizons to find a purpose he never knew he had.

The movie is filled with one ridiculous scene after another. Apparently a world renowned scientist who has discovered water on Mars is looking for matches though a matrimonial agency and falls for an uneducated, vertically changed Bauua Singh and decides to marry him. The actress Babita Kumari hires Bauua Singh just because he can tell how someone is by looking at him/her. The uneducated Bauua Singh and Guddu so easily land in the US. There is a ridiculous scene where Aafia uses a wheelchair to get to NASR from her wedding. Apparently no one can drop her or may be this is the way she goes to work everyday. The only good thing in the movie is the song Mere Naam Tu which is picturized beautifully.

Shah Rukh Khan being a dwarf is nothing more than a gimmick as he plays Bauua Singh in his usual charismatic way. His character is somewhat obnoxious but he doesn’t really change even till the end. The vfx is bad as he appears taller in some scenes and shorter in some scenes.

Anushka Sharma was totally inconsistent as Aafia Yusufzai Bhinder, a scientist with cerebral palsy. She was laboring to speak in some scenes and fine in some. She could have just been a physically handicapped character instead. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub was good as Guddu, Bauaa’s half blind friend. Its not enough that one lead character is a dwarf, another lead character has to have cerebral palsy and the friend character has to be half blind.

Katrina Kaif was ok as Babita Kumari, an alcoholic Bollywood actress. Tigmanshu Dhulia was good as Bauua’s father. Sheeba Chaddha was good as Bauua’s mother. Abhay Deol was ok as Aditya Kapoor, Babita’s love interest. R. Madhavan was ok as Aafia’s fiance in a small role.

There is a unnecessary special appearance from Salman for a song and the movie has a stupid, totally unnecessary scene with Sridevi, Juhi Chawla Kajol, Karisma Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt. Shah Rukh is still trying to have special appearances from other celebrities as if that would make the movie a hit.

Story and Screenplay by Himanshu Sharma is pathetic. The screenplay does not make any sense whatsoever. Aanand L. Rai who previously made decent movies like Tanu Weds Manu, Tanu Weds Manu Returns and Raanjhanaa makes a horrible movie this time. Zero is one of the worst movies ever and the title suits the movie perfectly.
