Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani Has Bumper Opening
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has taken a bumper opening across India at multiplexes. The opening at multiplexes can be compared with Ek Tha Tiger which was a holiday release. It is practically opened 90-100% across the board and multiplexes which tend to start slow have also started strongly.
It is not a holiday release so the film will slow in the late afternoon as this sort of pace is normally only kept when it is holiday. The film was always expected to open huge in the metros but the multiplexes in Rajasthan, CP Berar and CI have also opened to excellent collections.
The single screen opening is also likely to be very good though not like the multiplexes. The opening is sure to be the second highest non holiday opening of all time (beating films like Ra.One, Don 2, Rowdy Rathore etc) and the record non holiday 19.50 crore nett figure of Dabangg 2 is also not safe but that will depend on the range of contribution from single screens.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is likely to create history in Delhi city as the film has started with just unbelievable collections. The collections will easily beat Dabangg 2 which collected around 1.50 crore nett in Delhi city and will even surpass films like Bodyguard and Agneepath in Delhi city which were major holiday releases.
The craze is such for the film in the capital that it is likely to cross 2 crore nett in Delhi city which so far only Ek Tha Tiger has managed but that was on Independence Day Holiday.

I think BOI is making too much of it…at best IMO YJHD opening day will be 14-15 cr…..they said same thing about Barfi that barfi will cross 10-11 cr 1st day (bcoz PVR opened 95-100 % and its opening in multiplexes is on par with ETT and Higher than Agneepath)……but actual came in at 8.3 cr….!!
but no doubt that Ranbir is out of reach of Shahid..!!
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani Has Good Opening At Single Screens
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has had good 60-70% opening at single screens. The opening is not as huge as the multiplexes but that is expected as the film is not an action or mass film and the male lead Ranbir Kapoor is just ten films old and it takes time to accumulate a following in the interiors. For Ranbir Kapoor it is his best single screen also while at multiplexes the film is beating his previous starrers by leaps and bounds.
Still the opening at single screens is on par and even better at some places than films like Don 2, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Talaash and Housefull 2 which all featured established big stars.
The film has been released on around 3100 screens across India and with a 90-100% start at multiplexes and 60-70% at single screens the film will have a huge first day.

This is unbelievable. From the trailer it looked like a cliched romantic movie (some reviews are still saying same) and I did not think the songs were that great either but it opens to 20 Cr on a non holiday. Wow.
Ranbir is definitely a superstar and he is probably No 2 behind Salman for now or even No 1 as his non holiday collections are more than Salman’s non holiday movie.

Madhuri song may not be in sync with the movie but many ppl liked it and I jusy said it “added” “craze” for the movie. No doubt Ranbir star power is main this for its success but one cant just ignore Deepika factor also. Its mainly the chemistry between them which is loved.
Finally I have the ‘privilege’ to watch YJHD, and believe me guyz, it’s one of the most fuzool movies I’ve ever seen in a rom-com genre. Anjaana Anjaani was much better than this. So I recommend all Tanqeed friends, not to waste your precious money and time on this ghatiya film.
And by the way, why BOI is pumping YJHD figures. I think it’s the first time, when BOI figures exceeds Taran’s for any film. The original first day business should not be more than 17 cr. Really shame on BOI.
The box office numbers are great, but the movie is a silly chic-flick (felt like wasting time). Ranbir is definitely the new SRK

@bored, baba & mate – agree with you… film is a big let down…poor screenplay and no storyline… the only good things about the film is few funny gags of the four friends, ranbir kapoor and three chartbuster songs (badtameez,pichkari & dilliwali)… otherwise the movie is too boring and slow.. but ranbir kapoor is simply superb and outstanding in his romantic scenes with deepika..even if the film doesn’t sustain for long, it has definitely put ranbir in the top league and the opening weekend will surely help besharam take a thunderous opening, specially if it gets a holiday release…
with a top star being in a movie especially the one who is getting critical acclaim for his performances in movies since last few years, any heroine of top league will not help a film increase its craze or get a good initial..so the sole factor for the movie’s great opening is only due to ranbir and the foot tapping songs(featuring ranbir only)…

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is heading towards record collections over the first weekend. The film has seen a huge for a Saturday and will have the highest ever collections for a Saturday as business again is likely to be in the 19-20 crore nett region.
The collections coming in for Saturday are in the same range as Friday and it could show a small gain or small drop but the range will be similar to Friday.
The film will have collected 38.50-39.50 crore nett in two days and is chasing a 58 crore nett weekend of Dabangg 2 while Ek Tha Tiger collected 56 crore nett.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani had an extraordinary Saturday as it showed growth which is just phenomenal as the Friday itself was huge. The film gained by a little in the bigger circuits and dropped slightly in the smaller circuits.
But it managed to smash all Saturday records by a distance. The Saturday collections are in the 20-20.50 crore nett range. The 60 plus weekend for the for the first time looks assured. Earlier the best Saturday collections were Dabangg 2 at around 17 crore nett and Dabang at 16.50 crore nett. The two day collections are as follows

Though it’s a surprisingly astonishing performance from a star of Ranbir calibre, and no doubt, 60+ cr weekend is a great number. But this is also a fact that the indian films domestic market is growing rapidly, you can’t compare the weekend business of today’s film with a film that is released 1 year or even 6 months ago. So, comparing YJHD weekend business with say, Dabangg 2, is also not fair. Lets compare its collection with some big films released this year. In 2013, apart from YJHD, Race 2 was a major commercial film of another star, and it earned 52 cr in its 1st weekend and remember it was Saif’s movie who never come close to top 5 stars ever, and Ranbir definitely ranks much ahead of him. So If you see the picture in this aspect, there was a difference of rougly 10 cr for the weekend of both the respective stars, which is not enough keeping in mind the star status of both. And this weekend number looks big also because no movie from any other of the giants of bollywood released yet. So once a certain Krrish 3 or Dhoom 3 release, it will clear the air where our ‘great’ Ranbir stands infront of other superstars. (I’m not including CE or OUATIM 2 due to obvious reasons, yet one of them will beat YJHD by a big margin 😉 ). Though there is 5-6 months gap to release those biggies, so one may object, it’s unfair to compare YJHD collection with those due to market expansion. But Ranbir has another film in hand, and that is a pure masala entertainer i-e Besharam and that will release in the same quarter when Krrish 3 and Dhoom 3 are releasing, make it easy for us to compare. All the movies are of the same genre that is audience friendly, and all of them come from equally big banners and big directors. So wait and see to witness the greatness of ‘great’ Ranbir.

Race 2 was released at 25 Jan, and YJHD at 29 May, so it’s exactly 4 months & 4days gap. 😉
So that’s exactly what I’m saying. If you take the adjusted weekend total of Race 2, it will be more or less the same as of YJHD. So why so much curiosity amongst the media persons taking YJHD collection into consideration. Although the number comes above our expectations but it’s not extra-ordinary to compare him with the likes of Khans or Roshan. It’s more about a market expansion, and I bet you, If Krrish 3/D:3 release solo at the same date, they wouldn’t open less than 30 cr, or even may go to 35 cr.
BTW according to BOI Race 2 did 47-48 cr Weekend and 3 day weekend of Race 2 had 3 NATIONAL HOLIDAYS(friday, Saturday n Sunday all were national holidays) so imagine if YJHD released on that weekend we would have got may be 70 cr weekend….so can’t compare both IMO..!!
@mate – dude,if the movie market has grown so rapidly(which i don’t feel so, but still if we consider that),then i guess race 2 (sequel factor to keep in mind)HW (complete masala entertainer and over hype) should have opened much better than yjhd… i agree that the movie took a surprisingly thunderous opening which was not expected from ranbir, atleast not record breaking… but still the movie broke the opening record of dabangg2 released just 5 months ago with more number of screens compared to it… dabangg2 had many positive factors going in its favours – sequel,larger number of screns, holiday season, masala entertainer, hit music and above all the superstar SALMAN KHAN… but the movie dropped instantly the very next day and collected lower numbers than what was expected in the weekdays… I am not degrading salman or any other star, just want to tell that ranbir kapoor is not a star now but a superstar which many ageing heroes fans are not ready to accept the fact in liue of their fav stars record being broken by the present era heroes… I personally like ranbir kapoor after SRK, but I will also accept the fact that YJHD did not live upto the expectations due to its bad storyline and poor screenplay…even dabangg2 is better than this… only ranbir kapoor and the songs are the saving grace of it…m but still the movie did not show any drop in its collections on the second day as the public is accepting ranbir kapoor in his full form and also his fans base are increasing rapidly…Besharam will surely make him the mass fav and after that there is no stopping for him..krish 3 and dhoom 3 are sequels and it will not be fair enough to compare it with besharam…bt still who knows besharam might quite go ahead of those films also…keep your fingers crossed!!!!

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has smashed the initial weekend box office record by collecting around the 62-63 crore nett mark. It is the first time that a film has collected over 60 crore nett in three days. The film has had the highest collections ever for a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The previous best was the 58.50 crore nett approx total of Dabangg 2
It is noteworthy that such a huge amount has come without an holiday. The film has shown unbelievable trending with growth on Saturday and Sunday from such a huge figure on Friday which means the sky is the limit for the film.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani continued its fantastic run on Monday with collections likely to come in the 11-12 crore nett region. The film saw fantastic collections all over on Monday.
The highest non holiday Monday figure is the 11.50 crore nett of Dabangg 2 and Yeh Hai Jawaani Hai Deewani will be in the same range beating Monday figures of films like Dabangg and Three idiots.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is set for a huge second weekend total which should go in excess of 25 crore nett. The 8th day total is around 6.50-6.75 crore nett which takes the eight day business of the film to around 113 crore nett.
The second weekend will be the second highest ever behind Three Idiots which grossed 33 crore nett approx. The next highest is Dabangg at 24 crore nett and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani will surpass that.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has grossed nearly 135 crore nett as the second weekend came in at around 28.25 crore nett.The second weekend figure is the second highest of all time, ahead of Dabangg (2010) which grossed 24.25 crore nett but behind Three Idiots which grossed 33 crore nett.
The film is fantastic in all circuits with Delhi/UP a standout collecting phenomenal figures with a total of over 30 crore nett in just ten days which already makes it the fifth highest grossing film ever in Delhi/UP and the 40.50 crore nett record of Ek Tha Tiger is very much in its sights.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is set to emerge the second biggest grosser ever of Hindi cinema looking at its second week trends. The film is all set to cross the business of Ek The Tiger and finish around the 190 crore nett mark.
The way the film is going it will cross 150 crore nett in two weeks and will show a 55% drop in week two. This trend is likely to be easily repeated again next week as Fukhrey is no Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 so there will not be that second Friday fall that Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani saw this week.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani will be at 172-173 crore nett after three weeks at a minimum and should then go past the 186 crore nett total of Ek Tha Tiger.
The third week is very important in terms of where the film goes, if it holds stronger than this week due to the weaker competition then even a challenge of Three Idiots record figure of 200 crore nett is not ruled out. A 45% drop in week three will take the film very close to 180 crore nett in three weeks and then it will have very good chances of crossing 200 crore nett.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is looking at a fantastic third week as Friday collections were around 3-3.25 crore nett. The weekend collections cold go to around 15 crore nett which would take the 17 day business over 165 crore nett.
The fifteen day business of the film is around 154-155 crore nett. The film has done phenomenal business in North India and is sure to be highest grossing film ever in Delhi/UP while will stand at number two in East Punjab and Rajasthan.
The film has broken or will break the all time records of all multiplex chains that have a big presence in North be it PVR, Fun, DT, Wave, SRS or Satyam.

Ghanchakkar Average Opening Raanjhanaa Good First Week

Ghanchakkar had an average start of around 35% and was a bit better in evening. The first day will have average results with the film’s fate depending on Saturday growth.
Enemmy was poor grossing around 1.50 crore nett in week one.
Raanjhanaa did well in week one as it grossed around 34 crore nett with excellent trending on the weekday. The collections are pretty steady on day 8 despite a big release like Ghanchakkar.
Shortcut Romeo is a mega disaster with very low first week collections.
Fukrey has rock steady in week two and has collected around 29 crore nett in two weeks. The business of the film varies across India. It is a super hit in Delhi/UP and East Punjab, hit in Rajasthan but average to flop in the rest of the country.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani added 8.75 crore nett taking its four week total to 179.50 crore nett. There has been a big reduction of shows in week five so the lifetime business may end at 185 crore nett..

Looks like YJHD is going to wind up around 185 cr and wont become the second highest grossing Hindi movie after all. Nevertheless, it is commendable the movie made so much with a non-holiday release and in spite of being an okayish product.
Still waiting for the movie that will cross 3 Idiots (and also Ek Tha Tiger, which despite all the talk about negative trending, looks set to remain second highest grosser). It is interesting to note that barring 3 Idiots, all other movies in the top 5 grossing movies (Ek Tha Tiger, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Dabangg 2 and Bodyguard) have been so-so/bad products.

There is a rumour around that YJHD total nett collection is in 135-140 range, and BOI, Taran etc. did massive over-reporting. And I also tend to agree with that rumour, more suspicioun created by BOI themselves through their commentary, also they never gave territorial breakdown of any week for YJHD which is rare. Though It’s all about public verdict, and going by the widespread perception, It may become a Hit or even a Blockbuster but definitely not of that level what BOI pretend to make it.

First Half Year Verdicts: Decent Second Quarter

The first half of the year saw a decent second quarter thanks to two huge hits in the form of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Aashiqui 2. The latter proving to be the biggest sleeper hit of recent times and the former emerged the third highest grossing film of all time. The first quarter was a disappointment but the second quarter saw a turnaround mainly thanks to medium budget films without big names.
The problem in the first half of the year was that all the big films outside Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani did not live up to expectations. Some may have done okay but aside from Yeh Jawaani hai Deewani none of the other big films put up the numbers they should have. The major winners of the of the first half of the year are as follows with the nett collections or expected nett collections in brackets.

BO Report Card: Top 10 Highest First Week Grossers

This week we take a look at the top 10 Highest First Week Grossers of 2013. Listing the films according to the revenue generated at the BO, it’s not surprising to find the Ranbir Kapoor- Deepika Padukone starrer Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani topping the list.
Following YJHD is the multi-starrer action thriller Race 2, which collected Rs. 76.1 cr in its first week. However, the biggest surprise of all comes in the form of Farhan Akhtar starrer Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, which already stands strong at the third position on this list.
At this juncture, a point that certainly needs consideration is that while the film is already at the third position, it is yet to complete its first week. The figure we have mentioned for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is a cumulative amount aggregating collections only till Wednesday.
