VVS – 26

i.e Very Very Special Chabees
😀 .

My ‘Take/Movie Review’ of Special-26

A Very Good Movie by Many Standards, Dissapointing by Some but a Satisfying Watch Nonetheless.

Espc. Loved the Way, the Story was Stringed across Different Cities and Places across India.

Yes, the Romantic Track and the Songs were a Drawback but that was because the Movie in itself was So Engrossing and Fast that these Portions Acted as a Major Deterent to the Proceedings.
Add to it, they weren’t even Well-Made and Kajal was a Total Miscast for the Part[Heck, Manoj’s Wife & Neeru Bajwa looked Better].
🙂

But Move Aside from that Fact and what you get is a Brilliantly Fast Paced Thrilling Movie with Strong Performances that Entertains you to the Core.

The Quality of Acting is Good, the Interactions btwn the Characters is Engaging.

As always in almost Every B’Wood Movie in Recent Years, the Camera Work and BG Score is Splendid.

Full Marks to Neeraj Pandey… It was his Direction and handling of an Otherwise Average Story that took S26 to another level alltogether.

Not an ‘Equal’ Follow Up to ‘A Wednesday’ but that level was Out off Question anyways.

RATING – 3.5/5

    It doesn’t Matter when you
Touch 100cr or Not with the
    Movie when it’s something
    like Special26.

yes . i had similar views as yours. alos agree with the above . it doesnt matter ,s26 does not have to make 100 cr to prove it is accepted or it has quality. Loopholes are there but then which well-made films dont have it? rocket singh, khosla ka ghosla, even OMG. The important thing is its an entertaining yet intelligently made film.

Prestige HIT for Akshay as I Predicted.

Good Going… After a Superb 2007 and a Pathetic 2008-11, he has come back strongly!

OUATIMA Phaad ke Rakh dega, for sure!
Aakhir Mera MOST AWAITED OF 2013 jo hain

    .

And a Super  to Neeraj
    Pandey!
    BIG FAN!

Romance/Song Part is a Small Glitch.

    One Cannot Put Down the
    Whole Movie for that which
    by any standards was well
    made.
Not a DISSAPOINTMENT as such by any Margin atleast IMO.

    ……

Theatre Reaction in My Show was Overwhelmingly Positive Mixed on Good Side.
    🙂
S26 is here for the Long Haul.

Jayantabhai will Wither Away and Randeep Hooda with M3 and Not so ‘Popular’ Songs is
    No Emmy.

S26 will have an Assured High 2nd Week and Total will be 70/75+ and Touch-and-go 80cr.

NOTE: It might have done more if
Not for KPC which looks all set to be One of those 40cr-Odd Multiplex/ Metro HITS.
    Cost of KPC is ~20cr.
They went a little Overbudget but UTV is Super Satisfied with
    the Final Product I hear.

Not a DISSAPOINTMENT as such by any Margin and It’s Not that S26 is a
    Masterpiece/ Excellent Product.

It has it’s Share of Loopholes and Weak Points like any other Movie but the Whole Movie Watching Experience and Thrill of Fake CBI Hiests/ Raids in Different Cities was Too Good & Overcomes the So-
    called Intelligent
    ‘Shortcomings’, IMO.

Another Aspect I Liked was [Quoting Shalu Di here] – “at least it is an honest effort and not just a
film made to earn good money
    in the opening weekend.”

    …..

Akshay was Excellent in his Role.
Understated, Sharp, Focussed on the Job kinda Chap.

Anupam Kher was Good[Average in Few Scenes] but his Chemistry with Akshay was Excellent.

Jimmy Shergill was a Tad bit Underutilised I thought and this after he doing something like ‘A Wednesday’ with Pandey.

Manoj Bajpayee was the STAR of the Show.
A Complete Scene-Stealer with First Rate Dialogues.

Akshay aides and those Characters forming Special26 were Well Cast.

Overall, a Commendable Acting Effort by the Cast.

    Special-26 was Intelligent Man’s DHOOM maybe 😉

But in all honesty, A Wednesday [4.5/5] still remains the Better Movie of the Two by a Distance.

Note that Particular Sequence – where the Selected Candidates Shouts *Yes Sir* in the CBI Interview Room and that Guy who was Stammering[‘Hakla’ raha tha], utters ‘Sir’ a Moment Later.

However Offensive that might be, but that’s the Touch of Brilliance by Pandey.

Such a WoW Cinematic Moment in itself

The ‘Attention to Detail’ to Bring about the 80’s Feel Onscreen in a Commendable Job.

Eat Your Hearts Out, SatyamSquirts Morons!

Sooooo Glad Abhishek din’t do the Movie.

Not that I Hate him, but he would have Ruined it with his Presence.

    😐

    ….

Anupam Kher as the Bumbling Nervous CBI Officer was Good but Bajpayee’s Waseem Khan Overpowers him as the Supporting Lead.

Akshay in one of his Finest Performance till date.

Still Sad that his ‘Patiala House’ Act Remains So Damn Underrated till date, while ‘Namaste London’ was Such a Crap.

    …..

Very Much Loved those Little, Subtle Humourous Plots in btwn.
    Nice Touch by Pandey!

The Climax was Good and though Well Executed is Not a Knockout/Shocking One too like Say ‘A Wednesday’ but Not even like ‘Race2’ Level Bad either.

    serenzy,
Very Good review ,Glad to see You’ve loved the movie by core of heart . Yes agree with Romance part of the movie ,which wasn’t necessary but I think neeraj want to add some soulful Romance for Attract to Youth in valentine’s season !

Correction for 2008-11 Phase; 2008 was decent for him (Tashan-> flop , SIK-> SuperHit)

Question : what was rating for OMG! Oh MyGod?

    @Serenzy bro
Saw your post at the main page with the number of comments, I thought you’ve written some thing ‘explosive’ that a plenty of comments recieved within a few minutes. And look here, all the comments are by the author himself. 😀
BTW nice review. I always like your instant reaction that showed in your each and every review i-e extreme positive or negative. I hope you wouldn’t regret for your reviews after a couple of weeks/ months. 😉
I respect your views, agree or disagree with those is another thing, as it’s a matter of opinion. You can love a movie despite all its flaws, but why to cover those flaws under your likeness. I just want to point out your statement about direction, almost every ‘Sane’ critic agreed that Neeraj direction is bad, and that he had a very strong script in hand, but a very good opportunity gone wasted. Even a common cine-goer can tell you the movie had not one or two but a bunch of loopholes. Even I like the movie to some extent (that happens once in a blue moon for an Akshay starrer) mainly due to last 45 mins that’s it. The movie is neither a Hit nor a prestige, and to say this movie (can use a word crapfest, but didn’t coz it’s not that either) a prestige is a Sin. So please like a movie but don’t state something that doesn’t exist.

    Mate mere Yaar,

Haha.. I am Not Much of a ‘Poster/Initiator’ of a Topic.
I am More of a ‘Reactor’ kind and I Tend to Write More ‘Freely’ in a Sense in My Comments.

Naah, I Don’t REGRET My Reviews.
I Might Change My OPINION to a Certain Extent after a Rewatch Or Two though.

You can go thru any of My Views on Movies… I Remain Very ‘Honest’ to what I Say.
Maybe, That’s why My Awards are Titled “HONEST”
    #lamealert
    😛

I Highly Felt that Neeraj, the Director was Very Good but was Letdown by a ‘Ho-Hum/Loop-holic’ Script.

Performances were Good by all, No Doubt.

    …..

Please, Don’t take that PRESTIGE HIT Thingy Seriously at all.
    🙂

It’s a Personal/Lame Joke btwn Me and Some of My ‘Mates’ 😉

btw, OUATIMA and Chennai Express are Next in Line to be PRESTIGE HITS.

I didn’t care about BO collections.
I don’t mind that people not watched my films like Aag & Bhoot 2 in theaters thats why these films not collected money at BO.
But why I care about BO collections?
Chandi Chowk To China, Tees Mar Khan, Joker, Khiladi 786 & Special 26, after all these films are MASTERPIECE like my films.
    I don’t care about BO.
