Good trailer with excellent performances but don’t know how much truth in those events.

Good trailer but I think its a bit too long. I think they should have gone for a regular 2 and a half minute trailer for maximum impact.

Pavan Malhotra seems to have a very good role and seems to have given one more brilliant performance. Love the Tumhara Pakistan scene.

    @FS,

Wow !!! Wow !!! Wow !!! Fantastic trailer

Bangladesh genocide pre 1971 deserves many movies as does partition but Alas…

I have read many pieces on this ‘bastard childs’ in bangladesh by Pak army… Still thousands of such women exist and living life of darkness, be it hindus and muslims…

Few years back when I read about it and 1st time came to know such living women who were raped and carrying children of such gross inhuman act, I was NUMB and SHOCKED…

And all this lead to ‘Mukhti Vahini’ with due help from India…

Bangladesh story tells you its culture/ ethnicity that is glue and in DNA of Ppl and Nation not religion ….
It all started with imposing of Urdu on East Pakistan ( Now bangladesh)

Agree with you that “Bangladesh genocide pre 1971 deserves many movies as does partition”

Its good that they are making a movie on Bangladesh genocide. I am not sure if there have been any other Hindi movies on Bangladesh genocide before.

Pavan Malhotra’s character is supposed to be based on the “Butcher of Bengal” General Tikka Khan. Reading his bio on wikipedia looks like he did not get punished for his crimes and he was rewarded instead.

I had read about the genocide in Bangladesh many years back but did not know about this ‘bastard child’ thing. I know that Rape has been used as a weapon to humiliate and torture but what’s the logic behind the ‘bastard child’? They wanted to leave behind kids who are from Pakistani fathers? This sounds sick.

Don’t agree with you that culture/ethnicity is glue. India has so many different cultures based on which state they are from. Its values and principles which define a country irrespective of culture/ethnicity/religion/language and so on. There are problems whenever someone tries to impose a language/culture/religion on others. The funny thing about imposing Urdu on East Pakistan is that many Pakistanis themselves speak Punjabi.

After India helped Bangladesh during the 1971 war India and Bangladesh should have been close friends. While we have not had any wars with Bangladesh we don’t seem to have capitalized on such a great opportunity though things seem to have improved in recent years.

    Sputnik :

If I can locate those pieces I’ll post them here… They just shock you to numbness… Real stories with real woman who are still living life of darkness, shame and IMHO utter braveness and dignity…

Indian cinema is Shit, only romance ( sick poor ). If one reads about partition, 1971 bangladesh genocide, they alone can spawn 100’s of stories…

I was shocked to numbness when I read it 1st…

    On Culture/ethnicity.

You just need to look at Europe and Arab :). Period.

Principles values of every country written in their constitution or passed on will be same or overlapping but we are not one nation but 265+ states… Think ???

If you leave Wiki and read real factual pieces and story of bangladesh it will tell you it was only when pakistan tried to dismantle and destroy bangla culture, revolt happened…

Its not what you or me think but what history tells us ….

Agree with Tulmul here . It all started with when Pak tried to dismantle and destroy bangla culture. In fact beginning was 52’s language movement .Which was a prime motivation for 71 . But yes there were many other reasons too .

    • sputnik 10 years ago

There are different countries within Europe and Middle East. There are different cultures/languages/ethnicity within Europe and same is the case in Middle East. If culture/language/ethnicity would be so important then West Bengal along with East Bengal would have been a separate country.

I am not denying the fact that West Pakistan tried to tried to dismantle and destroy Bangla culture and impose Urdu on East Pakistan. I think they considered Bengali Muslims to be inferior Muslims and Bangla culture to be Indian culture rather than Pakistani.

I watched the trailer after reading Tulmul’s comment. I had read about humiliation against women in Bangladeshi women and men by Pakistani army but never knew there is so much about it. I’ll try to read about it. Tulmul Please do post it..

Some scenes in the trailer are shocking, gruesome and explicit. Will be looking forward to watch it. BGM is also fantastic. didn’t like the revolution part though.

Other reasons are pile ups which may happen in every such case… other reasons are like little rivers joining one main river and after some distance making river huge…

    Ex :
Bhagirthi ( origin : Gaumukh) is small river till it reaches rudraprayag where it meets another river and becomes Ganga, Huge river…

    Sputnik :

    Kya bolo

Bangal was partitioned in 1905 by British by Lord Curzon. and thn it one part went to pakistan as muslim majority area.

“There are different countries within Europe and Middle East. There are different cultures/languages/ethnicity within Europe and same is the case in Middle East.”

You are saying same thing which I said in One word : Culture/ethnicity is biggest glue of nation. Europe and middle east are not nation but regions and think again 🙂

    • sputnik 10 years ago

Well the British were the masters of the Divide and Rule policy and they left a mess pretty much in every country they ruled.

I know Europe and Middle East are not nations but regions and I was responding to your comment from above where you bought those two.

If culture/ethnicity is biggest glue of nation then West Bengal and East Bengal should have united and become one country. Similarly the Punjabis of India and Pakistan should have had a separate country called Punjab and the Tamilians of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka should have had a separate country. But its not the case.

One should not forget that “The Bastard Child” is a Bollywood potboiler. A fiction.

Field Marshall Sam Manekshaw has bragged on several occasions that the Indian Army. first dressed up as “Pakistani Army” and committed the rape, pillage & atrocity in East Pakistan and then after doing that, dressed up as Mukti Bahini and liberated Bangladesh. He has bragged that it was like stealing candy from a child (separating the two parts).

A lot of reports exist in the media which support Manekshaw’s account.

It is said by many think tanks that the Banagli’s themselves dealt with Mujibur for conspiring with the Indian Army.

At the end who will you believe a Bollywood movie or Sam Manekshaw ?

Good Interview. Agree with him completely that Pavan Malhotra is such a underrated actor in Bollywood.

Sad part is that they are releasing it on 27th December, 2013.

If the film lives up to it’s powerful trailer(which I hope it does), it will be sad to see such a movie go unnoticed due to such a ‘fucked-up’ release timing.

Common sense should be applied and they should delay the release date so that the movie reaches out to a larger audience and makes a ‘certain’ impact.
Releasing it on 27th will be a complete waste of all the efforts and money… No point rushing it.

  12. Tulmul 10 years ago

Do you really understand Point or you just enjoy digging in to your position???

You are going all over and nowhere ( Sorry to say this)

You need to read more, simple example when europe is all white christian region why is it not one nation but various nations.

Read more about it and how race theory was propounded by Europeans…

No more from me on this as again I find same old trick…

the trailer would be good enough if the starcast was bigger. but for a small cast it has less graphical violence and not quite explicit to get attention. promo is slick in first half but not in the latter half

The movie title has been changed to Children of War.

Here is some news on why title was changed.

    —————

The Bastard Child is derogatory, but Naajayaz was not?
Kavita Awaasthi, Hindustan Times Mumbai, November 29, 2013
    First Published: 11:05 IST(29/11/2013) | Last Updated: 11:56 IST(29/11/2013)

Director Mrityunjay Devvrat is struggling for approval from the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) for his film, titled The Bastard Child.

Mrityunjay is amazed that “Naajayaz (1995), Kaminey (2009) and Inglourious Basterds (2009) are acceptable but not my title. I don’t understand why they are objecting because only the censor board has the authority to reject titles.”

He adds, “The dictionary defines ‘bastard’ as a child born out of wedlock. It becomes profane only when society uses it in the wrong sense. Maybe they are troubling me because I don’t have enough sources.”

The film deals with the birth of Bangladesh in 1971, focusing on the genocide and when “400,000 women were raped and 3 million people were killed”, according to a story published in the newspaper, Mint.

“We all know of Hitler and his atrocious ways. People have watched Schindler’s List (1993) and Guns Of Navarone (1961) but the genocide that took place in Bangladesh is something that hasn’t been spoken about. The film will showcase how rape and religion were used as war weaponry,” he says.

Mrityunjay hopes the film releases smoothly in India. “It might face protests in Bangladesh but I will release it there as I spent part of my childhood in the country. This is a small token from my end,” he says.

Starring Pavan Malhotra, Farooque Shaikh, Victor Banerjee and Raima Sen, the film will release on December 13 in Bangladesh and on December 27 in India.

On being contacted, IMPPA president TP Aggarwal says, “I spoke to the Film Makers Combined and they found the title abusive so they rejected it. I spoke to them to reconsider. Now if the film-maker reapplies, we will reconsider.”
