‘‘Taking her name is a sin’’ – Neil Nitin Mukesh

Q. What’s happening in your life right now?
A Life is awesome. I’m busy with work and my hobbies. I’m hunting for good work too.

Q. And what about love?
A Well, I’m not looking for love because I’ve learnt that love eventually finds you. I like someone a lot right now, let’s see what happens.

Q. Would you like to share something about her?
A Well, I was in a long term relationship earlier. But the girl and her family were dishonest. They were ‘cheaters’. I am simple and an open book. I don’t like ambitious and materialistic people. The girl, whom I like now is not ambitious and is genuine. And if we ever get into a relationship, she wouldn’t hide it like the earlier one did. The previous one even said, ‘I’ve met Neil only twice in my life’! She is a closed chapter and not worth a mention. Taking her name is a sin. (Pauses) But I hope this girl I’ve recently met eventually says yes to me. Right now, we are good friends. (Smiles) We both want to make sure it’s worth it.

Q. Who is this mystery girl?
A I guess by now all of you know who she is.

Q. Sonal Chauhan?
A (Smiles) That’s a beautiful name. I really like her a lot. We are doing a film together for Eros. It’s a highly conceptualised horror flick. We have a lot of common friends. We meet often. She’s a lovely person. She’s everything a woman should be and, most important, she’s a clear soul. I don’t know if she likes me, I’ve never asked her. But she knows I like her. We are letting life take its course. I don’t believe in red carpet affairs and neither does she. She’s got her head on her shoulders. She’s well brought up; her sister Himani is dear to me. I respect them. Well, in my mind we are together. (Smiles) I just hope one day she wakes up and says, ‘You’re the one for me.’

Q. Did you try to salvage your earlier relationship?
A She didn’t want commitment and I couldn’t handle it. Why would you be with a woman who doesn’t give you the surety that she’s only yours? So I walked out of the relationship. But she pretended, that she loved me. Being stupid, I went back to her, only to get more hurt, this time by both her family and her. They made it really dirty. They brainwashed her. In today’s day and age, no man holds your hand and says, ‘I’ll marry you’ and ‘I’m there for you’ but I was the one to promise commitment.(Pauses) It’s fine to be materialistic and ambitious. But no one has the right to hurt people. I was in a state of denial for a long time. But eventually I moved on, with the belief that it’s her karma and God would deal with her. It’s her upbringing. You can’t suddenly walk out on someone. That woman was completely fake. I’m aware of all the escapades she had while we were together. I’ll never respect her because I hate liars and she did nothing but lie to me. I don’t believe in rebound relationships and happy sex. Everything has to happen with dignity.

Q. Breakups can surely be devastating…
A Yes. I was heartbroken. It’s disgusting how she treated me. No one should treat anyone like that. My parents also noticed that I was going through hell. She used to call up my father and tell him ‘I love your son’. Her father used to tell me different stories. Then suddenly they stopped taking my calls. I’m a clean guy and can’t be associated with dirt. I’ve washed my hands with a sanitiser and moved on.

Q. How long were you in the relationship? You were never spotted with her anywhere.
A I was in a relationship for two years. She never wanted to meet my friends. When it came to parties, she’d greet me as an acquaintance, ‘Hi, how are you?’ She’s fake to the core dude. I wonder why she did it to me. I’m not here for fun. I respect women and I will not hesitate to say, ‘She’s my woman.” But if you’re having fun then don’t pretend you’re in love. Mean it, when you say, ‘I love you’.

Q. Have you ever cheated on anyone?
A Never, I’m like a horse with blinders. That’s why I’m so bitter about that woman.

He is talking so openly about his relationship. Surely he was hurt. But most girls are like this. I pity Neil, he is going to commit same mistake again, trusting so much on Sonal. No wonder she will dump him too and we will see him crying again.

Sonal Chauhan angry with Neil Nitin Mukesh’s claims

“Sonal denied having met Neil’s parents saying, “Please, I haven’t met them.” Asked about Neil’s statements that she helped him come out from his shell after his last relationship (with Asin Thottumkal) and healed him, she shot back, “Gosh! He hasn’t even spoken about his previous relationship with me.”

Sonal, who has signed a two-film deal with Eros International, said: “I am fond of Neil as a person. I don’t know what the future holds for me. He is a genuine guy. But I don’t know why he has been speaking of us this way. Marriage? Have I gone mad that I will marry at this point in my career? I am not in a relationship with him and I certainly don’t believe in casual flings. I know him from only four months and that’s a very short time to decide and take such a big decision.”

Where does all this leave Neil? Earlier, there were reports of the actor slamming Asin for turning her back on him. And now this. A friend of Sonal told us, “This looks strangely like some publicity stunt for Neil’s upcoming film with Sonal. If that is the case, it smacks of sheer desperation on his part.”’
