This was her debut movie and she had a double role. The first role was of a village girl who gets married to Mohan Lal’s character which was based on the late MGR who was an actor and then a Chief Minister. Prakash Raj’s character is based on the ex Tamil Nadu CM Karunanindhi.
And the second role of an actress was loosely based on present Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa. The age difference between MGR and Jayalalithaa was 32 years and they did 28 films together and supposedly had an affair.

I liked it a lot and I think its Mani Ratnam’s best but it was a flop. You will need some basic knowledge about MGR, Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa. It also has a lot of movie in movie scenes as Mohan Lal and Aishwarya play actors.

Yes and great acting by Prakash Raj too for which he won the National Award for Best Supporting Actor.

No its a Tamil film. I had watched the dubbed Telugu version Iddaru in theater.
