Songs that I loved as a Child

This post is about the Songs that I loved as a Child. These may not be the best songs but growing up I loved these songs very much.

I mean from the age of 3 till 14-15 (there was not a term called “teenage” that time ..it was just an ‘extended childhood’). I became more choosy after that.

But I still love these songs, for whatever reasons; I loved them. They cant be removed ever from memory. I am sure everyone has such songs! I will only quote till I became 14-15 and some songs may not be good – but I loved them when I was a kid.

The below list is not in chronological order, but I tried to keep it that way…I mean when I was growing up.

1) My father used to play this on the simple tape-recorder we had. This is the oldest memory of mine – of loving a song !

2) Amitabh song from Khuddar

The sheer fantasy of a car flying and Amitabh on top of it was giving me goosebumps! (still does)
The car talks by moving its bonet and horn…especially from 3:30 when Amitabh says “Has meri raani” and car responds to him after that!

3) Another Amitabh song, which all kids loved that time.

4) Julie Julie..johnny ka dil tujhpe aaya Julie…
Heard it lots of times on loudspeakers near the slum near my house area. Mithun was called “garibon ka amitabh” that time. I saw many street kids in Solapur dancing like him during that time 🙂

The starting line “humko meni nahi mangta..humko leni nahi mangta” was the hookup line… and “humko cyclewala michael nahi mangta” was fantastic.

5) Shammi Kapoor dancing on the Govinda song (Gokulashtami). (Again – this one is repeat viewing later on in 80s and listening songs on the old tape-recorder)

6) Namak Halaal song.

7) Sadma song. I liked this very much I saw back then it 80s.

8) 1988 – Govinda song. I was almost 12 by then.

9) And then I saw Thaanedar and QSQT – both nearly 8 times in a row in 1989 in a small town. I loved both the movies. I loved Aamir as he was very different than those times macho/trying hard to be a macho like amitabh etc (anil, jackie etc). heroes

10) 1989 / 90 – i Did not like this movie but loved its songs. I was 14 by then. Liked Salman very much in this. (but later on got pissed off due to ppl comparing him with Aamir a year later or so 😛 )

11) I dont know why, but I saw this song around same time 1989/90 when MPK released. And I was humming this for many months ! And friends made fun of me for that (such a old song etc etc! ) Now when I think, it was back to circle 1 – asli naqli film song which I loved as a 2-3 yrs old.

PS: I saw many of Dharmendra/Jeetendra/Mithun/Anil/Sunny/Sridevi movies by then. But I found Anil and Sridevi quite irritating and though I heard their songs of Himmatwala/Mr India/Teezab quite often on loudspeakers (I was forced to) I did not have quite a liking towards them due to the lead actors.

    Excellent post @ritz

Used to love many of the songs as a kid too.

When I was a kid my uncle and grandmother used to listen to songs on radio during afternoon time. And I used to love the song Angregi Mein Kahte Hai whenever it came on radio.

Remember loving the Shammi Kapoor song which used to come on Chitrahaar. Pag Ghungroo was again a favorite when it came on TV.

I used to listen to this radio show which was some kind of promotional show and loved the songs of MPK specially Dil Deewana. It used to be a favorite whenever it came on TV.

Used to love Julie Julie too and its funny that I heard that song on loudspeakers too. But never heard the Kumar Sanu version you posted before. I remember hearing this version.

My grandfather who was a big fan of Saigal and he used to play Radio Ceylon every morning and the day would start off with songs of Saigal. I used to love Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya and Gham-e-Mustakhil specially Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya. Had posted both as Song of the Day before.

SOTD: Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya – Shahjehan

SOTD: Gham Diye Mustaqil – Shahjehan

The song Din Hai Suhana Aaj Pahli Tarikh Hai sung by Kishore Kumar used to be played on the first of every month on Radio Ceylon. Used to love this song as a kid because of the lyrics and Kishore Kumar’s singing.

ritz and spuntik have revealed how old people they are by this post and comments

    • sputnik 10 years ago

Ha Ha but I think everyone already must have guessed how old we are by our past posts and comments 🙂

Lakdi Ki Kathi for obvious reasons of being a children’s song.

  6. sputnik 10 years ago

Here are more songs I used to love as a kid.

Used to love Aap Jaisa Koi for its music and singing when it used to come on radio. Now like it for the lyrics too. Had posted it as Song of the Day.

SOTD : Aap Jaisa Koi – Qurbani

Used to love Mere Angne Mein male version. I used to love the lyrics like “Jiski Biwi Moti, Jiski Biwi Lambi” and so on. Can’t find a video of the male/Amitabh version on youtube.

Used to love Yaar Bina Chain Kahan Re from Saaheb – the song, music and the picturization ( dancing by the doubles) when I used to watch the song on Chitrahaar at my neighbor’s house. Had posted it as Song of the Day.

SOTD: Yaar Bina Chain Kahan Re – Saaheb

Used to also love Zooby Zoobie Song from Dance Dance as a kid. Found later that the song was copied. Had made a plagiarism post on it.

Zooby Zoobie Song from Dance Dance Copied from Brother Louie

I used to like Halwa Wala Aagaya too which used to be played a lot on loud speakers.

Used to love Auva Auva – Koi Yahaan Nache as a kid because of the “Auva Auva” part which I later found out was copied. Actually love all the songs of Disco Dancer.

Wow, same here. Thanks for comments. I also loved Yaar Bina Chain Kahan, Aap jaisa koi, and Aaj Pehli Tarikh hai.

Good to know you got to listen to Sehgal long bachat k. My uncle used to sing his “Ek Bangla Bane nyara” lot of times. That time our home was under construction (own house) . Because of my uncle I heard many of Saigal songs and used to like Ashok Kumar.

        You are welcome.

        ————-

But I am appalled that no one else has contributed to this post with their comments. Come on guys you had no songs that you loved as a child?

When someone makes a original exclusive post the least you guys can do is comment coz it takes time and effort to create a post like this. You guys just keep commenting only on posts related to your favorite star or rival star.

    jumma chumma

    ghoonghat ki aad se

    ek pal ka jeena

Ah, all these songs you mentioned are my favorites!
I will embed it for you.

About his Muqabala song – yes it was legendary no doubt.

I think you liked rain songs much…heroine drenched in wet clohes? 😛

      Tip Tip barsa paani here.

JUmma Chumma – i felt more pain in seeing this. After all the coins were falling on my head as we were on the front bench …and it hurt me !!
Greatest show-off/Grand song never-the less . I mean it in good way. No other song afer this has generated so much exicitment . Evn “Choli Ke Peeche” and the likes..

      Ghonghat ki aad se

The fantastic locations of Rajasthan! My fav song of all time .. mostly because the locations.

The signature Hrithik move in this song: which you mentioned.

This song made him a superstar. (and the move)

I am especially fond of “Ghoonghat ki aad se” – not just beacause of Aamir – but because I had the previledge of staying in the palace for 3 days ! I was a fantastic experience!

        • Baba 10 years ago

thanks for embedding! i absolutely loved ghoongat ki aad se . even now i like it . it has a very 90s feel to it in the music. kumar sanu and alka yagnik and nadeem sharavn were a great team

muqabla of prabhu deva had some other versions too . one was in sbk of akshay and another in some sunil shetty film.

i remember being embarssed to watch tip tip barsa with family, especially towards the end jab akshy ke andar ka janwar jag jaata hai and he starts pressing and biitng raveena all over

jumma chumma is childhood fav and so is amitabh bachan. i loved hum.

knph moves were a craze back then. there was a guy in my class who used to randomly get up and imitate hrithiks step from sitraon ki mehfil during our lecture breaks.

Ghoonghat ki Aad se is no doubt a great song, but if I have to nitpick, there are very funny and WTF lyrics in this

“Bina kisi yaar ke jaan-e-jaa.N ; yeh pyar adhura rehta hai”

haha, if there is no “yaar” where is the pyar coming from anyway?

Same way the line “do premiyon ke na milne se …ikraar adhura rehta hai”

Wtf was that? I mean logically speaking ikraar is not possible untill lovers meet. Or when lovers meet there is an Ikraar. But what is adhura rehna?

Its like one guy starts “ikraar” all on his own. and its “adhura” till he meets his soul-mate?!? 😛

          • Baba 10 years ago

““Bina kisi yaar ke jaan-e-jaa.N ; yeh pyar adhura rehta hai”” might mean the difference between masturbation and actual sex

its “Do premiyon ke na milne se Sansar adhoora rehta hai” which is fine isnt it?

IN 1991 Amitabh had nation’s attention on this song.

Try with with any of Khans or Kapoors or Roshans now. Unless it is Salman, they all will need atleast a top heroine to make this a chartbuster! (ofcourse a top choreographer+director etc)

      Lol.

I love all these 3 songs songs so much!

Nasser dancing in Oye Oye was an unusual thing for him. He was hilarious. And I loved the song !

Same thing for Amitabh singing a children’s song (during that time for him – in his stardom)

I love the song “Nanha Munna rahi hu” – its one of the eternal songs!

That reminds me of another song which I loved (thought its not in the same context of Nanha Munna song)

      Here it is …

    • sputnik 10 years ago

      Good choices @aryan

Used to love Nanha Munna Rahi Hoon as a kid too. Love all the songs of Tridev. And yeah loved that Amitabh song as a kid too.

    Remembered a few more songs.

Used to listen to this song Hey Raju Hey Daddy on radio. Used to love the voice of the singer who sings for the kid specially the part “Acha Main Mummy Se Baat Karoonga”.

Also used to like this song when it came on Chitrahaar.

Another song I loved as a kid was the song John Jani Janardhan whenever it came on radio because it was one of my earliest movie memories.

Had made a post on it.

Thanks for the songs. John Johnny Janardan was my fav too. I missed it.

Other 2 songs I heard for the first time or maybe I dont remember. I loved both. The guy who sings “Accha main mummy se baat karunga” i loved it. Also the other song I liked especially the bit when Amol’s character makes noise of Shenhai and chidiya songs. I know you heard it on radio so it must be more likable.

    Very good post Ritz.

    loved many songs you guys have posted here. Some of my favorite were;

Pappa jaldi aajana – This song is very close to my heart even now since i would see my father once in two years or three. My father spent his days in Gulf during my childhood days and I use to miss him so much. Most of the songs I am going to post are the songs that i use to listen in Cassette or sometimes radio. My uncle had given me two – three cassettes and me with my elder cousin use to listen almost every day.

    baar baar din ye aaye

    Ek chudiya anek chudiya

Haina Bolo Bolo – Was mad about this song

    HUm bhi agar bache hote

    Chanda Hai tu

    Lakdi ki kaati – posted
    ichak dana – posted
dadi amma dadi amma man jao – posted
    Lalla Lalla lori –

    Re mamma re mamma re

    nani tere morni ko

haathi mere saathi – Had liked the film very much, now don’t remember much of it.

    Pyar hua ikrar hua

    jaane kahan gaye wo din

    ye dosti hum nahin todenge

    There were some patriotic songs that I use to listen as well such as;

    Aao bachchon tumeh sikhayen

    Aye mere watan ke logon

    Jahan daal daal per

    Most of the above songs I have just listened when I was kid and only few of them have watched it on TV. The songs that I grew up watching them are as follows;

Kabootar jaa – Maine pyar kiya
Aye kaash – Kabhi haan kabhi naa
    Papa kehte hain – QSQT
    Aye mere humsafar – QSQT
    Didi tera deewana – HAHK
tu cheez badi hai mast – Mohra
and hence forth….. all famous songs 😛

    • sputnik 10 years ago

Loved the songs you posted @FS.

Loved Pappa jaldi aajana which I had never heard before.

Used to look forward to Ek chudiya anek chudiya when it used to come on DD on Saturday/Sunday afternoon I think.

Hum bhi agar bache hote was a favorite too when it used to come on Rangoli.

All those patriotic songs used to play on Independence Day and used to love Aao bachchon tumeh sikhayen. Aye mere watan ke logon is a goose bump inducing song.

Kismat Ki Hawa Kabhi Naram – ALBELA
