Shudh Desi Romance Opens Better Than Zanjeer

Shudh Desi Romance has taken a better opening than Zanjeer across multiplexes practically all over India despite the latter being a bigger film. Shudh Desi Romance opened to around 35-40% collections while Zanjeer was around 15-20% at multiplexes. The early single screen occupancies were 25-30% for Zanjeer and 15-20% for Shudh Desi Romance.
In the North it was a big lead for Shudh Desi Romance with multiplexes being much better and single screens being on the same lines. Zanjeer opened better in single screens of Maharashtra. Overall the opening was average for Shudh Desi Romance and poor for Zanjeer.
It will be interesting to seen which film has the higher first day figure as Shudh Desi Romance has better occupancies but Zanjeer has the wider release. At the moment it seems that Shudh Desi Romance has a big enough gap at multiplexes to more than cover the lower screen count.

SHUDDH DESI ROMANCE embarked on a superb better start, much bigger than ZANJEER at plexes of major centres. Targeted at the youth, SHUDDH DESI ROMANCE attracted its target audience — the youth — in hordes, thus sidelining ZANJEER at several stations. However, ZANJEER has had a wide release and caters to the single screen audience and in the mass-dominated belt specially, the response was better.

I am happy at this. The z grade carbon copy of madhuri is getting what she deserves. Hopefully priyanka will get tolerable as she matures up after 10 years.

Shudh Desi Romance Outscores Zanjeer Easily

Shudh Desi Romance has outscored Zanjeer easily as it opened better and the gap is wider in the afternoon shows as Shudh Desi Romance improves at multiplexes where opening collections were low and holds where it started better.
Zanjeer started lower than Shudh Desi Romance and the gap is widening. It could be that Shudh Desi Romance has double the collections of Zanjeer on day one despite showing on less screens.
The Telugu version of Zanjeer named Thoofan has opened better in Nizam/Andhra but the way it is going there will no circuit where Zanjeer will be ahead at the end of they day. Even a mass circuit like Bihar should see Shudh Desi Romance getting the upper hand by the end of they day.

If Zanjeer fails it will hurt Teja’s chances in Bollywood – for Priyanka it doesnt matter, she will have a biggie in Krrish anyways. What will matter for her is that Mary Kom biopic.
And seriously does the likes of deepika, anushka, katrina, kareena act any better?
Balan took her years to mature – but then became so bloated that she is out of the picture. Its only male stars like Devgn, Akshay and even Aamir who has the years to get matured. A male gets the time to even mature and then go back to square one like Abhishek Bachchan.

Shudh Desi Romance Does Well On Day One

Shudh Desi Romance did well on day one collecting around 6-6.25 crore nett. The film did very well in Delhi/UP, East Punjab and Rajasthan while other areas were lower comparatively when compared with these circuits but still good overall.
The opening day number is a very good number for such a film which has a medium budget and a cast which does not have much face value. The film has mainly a multiplex release with around 1100 screens in total.
Shudh Desi Romance will show Saturday growth though remains to be seen how much and then come out with a healthy weekend which is sure to go over 20 crore nett.

Zanjeer First Day Business

Zanjeer did poorly on day one as it collected around 3 crore nett on day one not including the business from its Telugu version Thoofan.
The film was dull all over with collections in Delhi and Punjab being just awful. Maharashtra fared best for the film but was still very low.
The Hindi version of the film has no chance and is a disaster as it can’t go anywhere from such a low starting point. It will be up to its Telugu version Thoofan to give it the makers some returns though considering how bad the Hindi version it will be a surprise if the Telugu version sustains in long run.

Shuddh Desi Romance managed to show good growth on Saturday as it collected around 7.50 crore nett adding to the 6.25 crore nett on Friday taking its two day figure to 13.75 crore nett. The film is faring best in Delhi NCR and Rajasthan while business in Maharashtra, CP Berar and Nizam is not so strong. The film will put up a healthy weekend.
Zanjeer dropped on day two as it collected 2.75 crore nett compared to 3.25 crore nett on Friday. The two day total is 6 crore nett and there is not much hope for the film. The film saw big drops in the single screen areas where opening was slightly better, the multiplexes could not really drop much as start was so low. The Telugu version of the film also dropped on its second day.

Shudh Desi Romance had a good weekend as it grossed around 22 crore nett plus. The film had a good Friday and showed solid growth over Saturday and Sunday.
The film has done very well in Rajasthan as the film is set there while Delhi/UP and East Punjab also saw good business. Other circuits have done good to decent business. There is a holiday in parts of India on Monday for Ganesh Chaturthi which should help the film although its mainly Maharashtra holiday which is one of the lower performing areas for the film especially CP Berar and Nizam The approx weekend breakdown was as follows.
Friday – 6.25 crore
Saturday 7.50 crore
Sunday – 8.50 crore
TOTAL – 22.25 crore

Zanjeer Is Huge Disaster

Zanjeer has emerged as one of the biggest disasters of the year. The film costing around 60 crore including print and marketing costs has managed to gross just a little over 10 crore nett in its first weekend.
The film does have a Telugu version (Thoofan) which has done better due to its opening but even that version has falling collections. The Hindi version will not even do a share of 10 crore. The breakdown for the first three days is as follows.
Friday – 3.25 crore
Saturday – 2.75 crore
Sunday – 3.25 crore
TOTAL – 10.25 crore

Shuddh Desi Romance had a strong Monday as it collected around the 4.25-4.50 crore nett mark taking the four day business to 27 crore nett. The film was aided by Ganesh Chaturthi which meant it was a holiday in some parts of the country.
A circuit like Punjab where the film was doing well saw a 45-50% drop from Friday as there is no Ganesh Chaturthi affect there. The film will be a plus film but remains to be seen how well it sustains from here on.
There are big releases over the next two weeks and to have any chance of collecting well against them it will be important for Shudh Desi Romance to hold up well over the next three days.

Shuddh Desi Romance dropped on Tuesday as it collected 2.75 crore nett. The collections down a lot where it was holiday on Monday and even North where it was not a holiday on Monday saw noticeable drops.
The film has grossed around 29.50 crore nett in five days and the week will go to 34 crore nett which means the job is done for the makers as the costs are reasonable.
The trend of the film is similar to Madras Cafe with the difference being that Shuddh Desi Romance has lower costs. Both films did well on the weekend and got advantage of one holiday on the weekdays and Madras Cafe went down heavily in week two and that could be the case for Shuddh Desi Romance as well.

Shuddh Desi Romance collected around 1.25 crore nett on its 8th day which is a 80% drop from day one. The will got affected by Grand Masti as both films are mainly aimed towards the youth.
The film should pick up well on Saturday and Sunday and go towards a 5.50-6 crore nett for the weekend. The best business for the film has come in Delhi/UP and Rajasthan circuits.
The lifetime figure of the film should cross 45 crore nett which is a good final total for the film.

Shuddh Desi Romance dropped in its second weekend collecting around 5.75-6 crore nett. The ten day total is 42 crore nett plus. The drop from first weekend is around 75%.
The film got affected by badly Grand Masti this weekend so a 75% drop is not too bad. The film has managed good to reasonable business on all circuits with Delhi/UP and Rajasthan tops.
Shuddh Desi Romance will finish with a lifetime total of around 48 crore nett.
