Shashi Kapoor dies at 79

Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor was admitted to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, in Andheri, Mumbai on Sunday night, reportedly for chest infection. Randhir Kapoor confirmed the news to indianexpress.com.

Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor has passed away at the age of 79. The Bollywood legend was admitted to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, in Andheri, Mumbai on Sunday night, reportedly for chest infection. The actor suffered from the problem even in 2014, post his bypass surgery. Actor and his nephew Randhir Kapoor confirmed the news to indianexpress.com, though he refused to give any further details for now. Shashi Kapoor is survived by daughter Sanjana Kapoor and his two sons Kunal Kapoor and Karan Kapoor.


Son of Prithviraj Kapoor and brother of Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor, Shahsi debuted in 1961 film Dharmputra. He went on to appear in 116 Hindi films. He was honoired with the the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 2011. In 2015, he was bestowed with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, making him the third member of his Kapoor clan to receive the honour, after Prithviraj Kapoor and Raj Kapoor.

Shashi and his wife Jennifer established the Prithvi Theatre in November 1978 in Mumbai. Jennifer died of cancer in 1984. More updates about his death are awaited.

    I liked his movie and acting in Sharmelee, Deewaar, Junoon, Shaan, Kabhi Kabhie and Satyam Shivam Sundaram.

    RIP

    He was good in Deewar and probably be always remembered for his iconic “Maa” scene with Amitabh in it but liked him a lot more in Junoon, Kalyug and New Delhi Times. Though he stared in lot of mainstream movies I think don’t mainstream cinema utilized his talent properly.
