One of my favourite movies. Had seen it in theatre when it had released in 1996. Nana just steals every scene he’s in till the end. Always a treat to see a rough and tough Nana do what he does best.

Had watched it in theater too. Agree that Nana completely stole the show.

The movie’s concept of pyscho husband is inspired from Sleeping with the Enemy but its a good Indian adaptation. Daraar was more of a copy of Sleeping with the Enemy. Have not seen Yaarana which is also supposed to be inspired from the same movie.

The dialogue was very popular back then. I had watched the movie in theater but did not like it. It was too loud and it had too much screaming for me.

Have you watched the move Diksha? I had watched it on DD in the 90s and had liked it back then. Nana played a untouchable in it and I had liked his acting in it. The movie used to be on youtube but looks like it has been removed.

      • Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

        Diksha

        I dont remeber much.

      • Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

Even I did not like this back then …

        but this sounds good now..

  5. Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

In Hindi, Nana’s most powerful and memorable role was that of Barishkar (rainmaker) from ‘Thodasa Rumani HO jaaye’

  6. Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

    epic entry !!!

    • Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

I think the EPIC ENTRY timing didnt show in above video – watch from 0:57:00

      • Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

The poetry and storytelling in this very similar to the way GA Kulkarni used to write (well known enigmatic writer in Marathi).

This movie and each dialogue/scene of it is simple brilliance ! Havent seen a single movie like this or anything which can even come close to it. (or even heard abt any – worldwide)

Fantastic Fantastic great interview of Nana

Talks about his growing up, his surprise and criticism of him getting Padmashri; Sachin getting Bharatratna vs Dhyan chand or Baba Amte, Stage plays…and much much more !!

    • Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

Nana praises John Abraham a lot here and talks about Welcome sequel too.

I loved his talk about AAP !

And see last 3 minutes (of second part) of how Thodasa Rumani HO Jaye is so close to his heart too πŸ™‚

Sunil Pal’s mimicry of Nana Patekar in front of him. He calls him mad and Nana takes it very sportingly.

    • Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

      Hahaha, good one.

Btw Sputnik – in the above interview in marathi Nana tells about his family background – gundagardi background and all and says its not a great acting at all what he does on screen – its just all in his blood. It comes naturally to him. He says he is fortunate that he came to film / arts line or otherwise he would have ended up as a gunda as others in his bloodline…

The above is just bad/crude translation from his interview in english – he is very sensible in the interview as he recounts his past and talks about present and future – he is impeccable in his language and thoughts here.

Did not know that he had a Gundagardi background. I think even Jackie was a small time Gunda or Dada of his area.

The Interviews are in Marathi so need translation please. What did he say about getting Padmashri and Sachin getting Bharatratna and AAP?

        • Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

He says he does not understand why he should get a Padmashri. He is an actor and he gets paid for it. People like Baba Amte etc who didnt expect anything in life and helped others should get the Padma or bharatratna awards.

He says Sachin has always entertained him and he is a favorite. He says its upto others to decide whether Sachin should get a Bharatratna or not – he says for that sportsmen has sports awards and actors have highest awards as Dadasaheb phalke. But then what did Sachin do ? he got all the money for what he did. Nana says he (Nana himself) pays 30% tax for all his film income – rest all the money he keeps for himself, thinks about his investments, his family/ their future… so what he has done for the society to deserve a Padma award?

He said he has always ridiculed people getting such awards and when it comes his turn he is surprised. He talks much about Baba Amte and then when it comes to sportsmen he says if at all they should have given to Dhyan Chand. But sportsmen and film industry is not something which contributes to the root level of society and Padma should be kept separate from them…

In his opinion Padma awards or Bharatratna should be only for people who do exceptional work for the society.

hmm… But there are different categories under which these Padma Shri’s are awarded na.

Had heard the name Baba Amte before but read about him now. Saw some youtube links about Nana making the movie Baba Amte -The Real Hero starring himself in lead role. But was that movie ever made? I think they should make a movie on his life if they haven’t.

And what did he say about AAP?

        • Ipman 10 years ago

he is indirectly calling sachin selfish by saying he made money for what he did for the country. look at the expression of the interviewer when he is critisng sachin πŸ˜‰

          • Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

When one knows the Sun’s glory very well, twinkling of other stars far in the sky doesn’t matter.

Sachin for Bharatratna – even I am all for it. But when someone brings up greats like Baba Amte – I cant oppose the stance.

And note that he doesnt oppose Sachin selection vehemently – but he is rather aloof about it – considering state of all awards these days I guess.

    • Ipman 10 years ago

some of those could be canned expressions from other moments as is usually done in such shows

  10. Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

I dont know about Nana making Baba Amte movie. But Baba Amte was a great inspiration for many – including myself. The kind of work he has done will be inspiring for generations to come.

About AAP he says – yes they are new, they may make mistakes, its a new field for them – but they DID IT ! (upon challange that COngress ppl gave – come here and rule – “nayak” type challange). He says there is a hope – give them time. He says he is hopeful and he is very articulate in his words which I liked and the manner he said that also.

Check this video about the Baba Amte movie.

      Like his views about AAP.

      • Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

        Interesting.

I hope a movie is made about Baba Amte – and Nana is a capable director / actor. But knowing his background and temperament I dont know what will happen to the project (is it already shelved or so).

I knew he was close to the Amte family as much as Medha Patkar was. I wish Nana gets to direct a movie sometime in coming years soon – his Prahaar was too good. Be it on Baba Amte or not – as long as he gets along with a producer and keeps his mind cool he would do a great job. πŸ™‚

“But there are different categories under which these Padma Shri’s are awarded na.”

    @Sputnik

In my opinion people who have contributed exceptionally to the field they are in should be given Bharatratna or even Padma awards.

For example – Lata has got Bharatratna. Now while she has been an exceptional singer ; what has she contributed to the field of music apart from she getting accolades? Has she trained people? has she made some Raaga ? Did she open some training institute and helped people who are really talented but cant go through formal education to become popular musician? In fact all of her life she has done opposite – bitch and dump her opposition . I am not saying it. A musician or two are not saying it. All industry says so. So how does she deserve BharatRatna for her “personal” talent for which she got all the accolades and money?!?

Same is the case for Sachin.

Sachin is and has been an exceptional player. But what he does after his retirement for the game is important. Does he train other people? Does he imbibe real sports instinct in current 20-20 money minded game? Or he just goes for a vacation for lifetime in la-la land with all the money earned?!?

Atleast they should have waited for real meaningful contribution to the field for each of the above rather that personal achievements to give such Important awards.

hmm… good point specially about Lata Mangeshkar but I guess many other singers got influenced/inspired by Lata’s singing or success. While Lata supposedly scuttled her competition Sachin is supposed to have helped the younger cricketers with cricketing tips.

But yes if Lata had started a singing academy and helped younger singers or if Sachin started coaching and helps in creating more good Cricketers that could be a great contribution in their fields.

      Agree.

  12. Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

Nana opposed Sanjay Dutt always !

This is a scene from Taxi no 9/2/11 where Sanjay dutt is giving narration and Nana is driving.

PS: Sanjay dutt was even un-happy when Aamir objected to him being on parol .

Manipulations of Bollywood! From Srk to Amitabh to Anil-kapoor all are same.

Nana and Aamir are the exceptions! who speak the truth !!

    • Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

PS: Only Nana and Aamir had the guts to oppose Sanjay Dutt in the entire film industry! (Aamir especially when he was in PK with Sanjay! )

I will bet that Aamir wont support Salman (his supposedly good friend ) when he is actually convicted.

Thats what make these people special!

Here is Nana interview about Sanjay! and Aamir hadb same stance.

(other filmy people dont have the balls to say even 10% of this )

      • Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

If tomorrow . Hirani makes a movie on Sanjay Dutt, the criminal’s life. I would like to know Aamir and Nana’s reaction. πŸ™‚
