Possibly Singham (2011) was best potboiler masala I have enjoyed in last 10 years. The energy, the aggression, the dialogues…it showed how films of this genre should function.
Singham Returns takes a leaf out of its prequel, but with half conviction. This film feels overlong although seldom boring. The pace is uneven and that’s what costs Singham returns. The clap-trap moments like prequel are very few and far between. This film is just plain. The entertainment quotient is intact. In fact Shetty’s comedy takes a high at couple of scenes. Kareena’s character, although reminiscent of her Golmaal3 act, draws some laughter. Also some confrontation scene, especially the ladies vs Zakhir Hussain scene leaves a mark.
But Singham never derives that inner instinct to sympathize. The film plays on same emotions which are done to death in our cinema. The writing is unmoving and the impactful dialogues are out of window. Shetty manages to put up a watchable show, as that’s what one can least expect from this man who has seldom failed in his work.
The music is big trouble even if there arr just three songs. The Honey Singh song at the end doesn’t really help.
Singham Returns may pale in comparison to its prequel but Ajay Devgn for a fact, has gotten better. His voice, his eyes, his dialogue delivery- He lends good support. Kareena Kapoor does her bit and she doesn’t come across as irritant which most actress comes in such roles. Her comic moments are genuinely funny.
One of the major problem again is the villain model here is complete turn-off. Prakash Raj in first instalment brought fair amount of animosity among the audience and that within his funny traits. But Amol gupte just couldn’t make much out of meddled role.
In all fairness, Singham Returns is above average affair. It has its downhills and uphills, but a stellar performance from Ajay and Shetty’s experience saves Singham Returns from lot many lapses. They deserved better sequel but only if they had better writers. Still, even if its bit disappointing, but its far from boring.

I dont think much of singham but it was enjoyable. action was very funny. prakash raj was great as the comic villian and since singham he got badly stereotyped. singham 2 trailer was crap and having kareena was a bad decision. she is well behind her peak. they should have casted some younger actress. music of singham was also not great but its title song and bgm were popular
VSingham1 was a huge surprise because its promo was crap. This sequel’s promo was also bad.
About the film…its not boring at all,its just that expectations were really high.
And BT..Kareena actually has good acting Herr. Her role is OTT like G3, and she does well there. Her comic scenes are genuinely funny. Whole theater was laughing.
Thus film should do around 135-140crs IMO.
yes singham trailer was also bad. but role of herione kajal was less. so that was good. here kareena has more role which scares me!
Kareena doesn’t have much role.. She has limited role but she does good comedy.
Is it remake of Singham-2 ? I heard some good things about original sequel .. so Hindi sequel being ordinary (common feedback by all) was not expected …
No its not a remake. Its original.
This is strange .. looks like seeing bumper opening, now Rohit may remake Singham-2 as “Phir Singham” 🙂
visited two very big theatres in mumbai cinemax and pvr kurla and could not get any tickets for any show today. singham has taken a bumper opening for real
And see how BOI didn’t use Bumper, Earthshattering or Excellent sort of words for Singham opening .. just Very Well 🙂 And now i am hearing it may get to biggest opening day of year so far.
thats bcos singham doesnt star any khan. notice how they say kick got affected due to “preeid” in the singham report. everyone knows how much kick grossed on the eid day.
just back from singham returns. it is much ado about nothing. mahaboring movie. there is no real conflict in the film. the dialgues are very lame compared to part 1. i thought rohit shetty was smart when he remade singham into marahti setting with local characters. prakash raj was excellent in it and his one liners were very popular. here amol gupte character is based on asaram bapu and he has overacted and is very unfunny. there is not a single scene worth remembering for anything. action is not even funny like part 1, its just boring like the film
Enjoyed Singham Returns at single screen. Mainly because of crowd response .. whistles, claps. Agree movie is not as good as first part .. but still very much enjoyable. My complaint is only climax encounter scene, writer could have think of some novelty here.
I am going to see again today. Want to relive the atmosphere 🙂
the single screen whistles on anything. and its not bcos the movie necessarily has clap inducing genuine moments but more bcos these are the times when they can do hooliganism/hooting in theares. such films give them an opportunity. i remember seeing kick in malegaon and some of the teenagers were whistling and clapping just like that in any scene. deep inside they knew the film is crap 😀
