Salman Khan ki ‘Jai Ho’: Promotions begin (Post updated with mini teaser)

JaiHo2ndposter

The following mini teaser is being aired repeatedly on Star Gold, Movies OK etc. It confirms that the first trailer will be premiered on these channels tomorrow, at 08:59 PM IST.

Almost confirmed: The Jai Ho trailer will be launched on Thursday, 12/12/2013 at an event. Further, it will have a grand TV premier at 8:59 PM on the same day across all Star Network channels such as Star Plus, Star Gold etc.

2013 has not seen a single Salman Khan release. But his next ‘Jai Ho’ is slated to release on 24th Jan 2014, making it the longest gap he has ever had between two movie releases (his last Dabangg2 released on 21st Dec 2012). For some time now, filmy forums and twitterati have been buzzing in anticipation of the kick-start of promotions for this movie. Unlike almost all other big films that release first looks and teasers and what not, months before the movie release date, ‘Jai Ho’ hasn’t even got an official poster till now. All the shooting pics being circulated online for the past so many months have been clicked by eager fans and media persons who have had the chance to be present while the crew shot at multiple locations across Maharashtra, and during the two small overseas schedules at Dubai and Romania. Anyway, the long wait, it seems, is about to end tomorrow.

Salman Khan, using his twitter account, has communicated that the first poster for the film is scheduled to release tomorrow.

SK: “Jai Ho ka first poster banao mere saath. Kal subah 10 baje”

The tweet is interesting for it suggests that something unique has been planned for the unveiling of the poster. Buzz also suggests that the poster has been sketched and designed by none other than the man himself. Salman Khan who has ‘painting’ as one of his serious hobbies, has apparently used his skills to create a truly unique first poster for the film. This suggestion has been further fueled by a tweet by Ms. Priety Zinta in reply to Salman’s tweet announcing the poster making activity.

PZ: “Also once the Jai Ho poster is sketched by you can I have it ? Hahhaha ! I’m making sure I’m the first one in line πŸ™‚ Ting”

We can only wait and see how this first poster turns out. Meanwhile, the first trailer is also expected to be out soon. Trade people and skeptics have expressed their reservations about such a short promotional campaign. But we don’t really need to go a long back in time to see that a short promotional campaign may not be an issue at all. Salman Khan’s 2011 blockbuster ‘Bodyguard’ saw its first promo come out just 38 days prior to release. In fact a case may be made that a focused and planned campaign for 40-50 days is much better way to ensure that the buzz reaches the optimum level by the time the film opens.

Let the ‘Jai Ho’ chants begin.

Thank you Baba, this sets the context. By the way the ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ is missing.

    • Baba 11 years ago

poster is different but dont expect salman to spring too many surprises. it wil be formulaic

      • shan 11 years ago

Agree with Baba. Poster is different and less massy from Salman’s previous movies but with a cast comprising of Sudesh Lehri, Mukul Dev, Ashmit Patel, Yash Tonk, expect a lot of formulaic “comedy” and action, with mediocre acting. Will be pleasantly surprised if these elements are avoided in the film.

The logo (which might be part of the poster) posted above confirms the theme of the movie. Jai (Salman) will start a human chain when he will ask every one to help three other people. The dot in the ‘i’ of ‘Jai’ most probably denotes Salman. He will help three people. Then three*three=nine, nine*three=twenty seven (as denoted precisely by the stick figures)… and so on… damn innovative way to convey the idea.

    • sputnik 11 years ago

Good one but they should have not have had the stick figures on the left side above the A of “A Sohail Khan Film”.

I am not sure but I think may have watched a few scenes of that Chiranjeevi movie Stalin which itself was inspired/copied from Pay It Forward (2000) starring Kevin Spacey, Haley Joel Osment and Helen Hunt.

I tried watching Stalin, couldn’t complete. I have seen Pay it forward- but it really a very different sort of film- I don’t think Jai Ho will be like that. But yes, the idea of a human chain is definitely taken from there.

    Good innovative Poster. Liked it.

Good Post Piyush… Fantastic Poster with some meaning into it. When are they releasing the trailer? Imagine if the title would have been Mental πŸ˜›

Jai Ho title is much better and suited than Mental

@Baba,Shan: I somewhat agree with you. This poster needs to be followed up with a consistent promotional campaign and a film that is consistent with what the promotions promise. It is easy to see that enough thought has gone behind the poster; it almost seems like a labor of love- with Salman sketching it himself; the title too is his own handwriting apparently. But it remains to be seen whether the film lives up to it. Of course, a lot the standard entertaining elements including set-piece songs and action scenes can be expected. Hoping that it is well balanced, just like this poster which has this awesome ‘arty’ feel to it, and the face that’s enough to bring in the masses in hordes.

@FS, Thanks…the trailer will be out on either 11th or 12th it seems- in the next 10 days in any case. Expecting a Jai Ho special Big Boss episode soon with the entire ‘Khan’daan in attendance.

bodyguard 2 nhi darte salman fan ,.jitna dabangg 3 se darte he πŸ™‚

    • shan 11 years ago

I think Bodyguard 2 will be worse than Dabangg 3. Both should be avoided, but if at all one has to be made, Dabangg 3 at least has a chance of giving us something interesting from the life and times of Chulbul Pandey.

Btw, Dabangg 2 >> Bodyguard, which isnt saying much, but still less cringe-worthy. πŸ™‚

LOL baba! Nervousness to hogi hi na, Salman hasnt really come up with great films for years, even though they made tons of money at the BO.

    dwnpiyush 11 years ago

Post updated with the awesome second poster which also has the names of the crew members listed. AR Murgadross has been given the story credit (confirming that it is based on Stalin), while Dilip Shukla (Andaz Apna Apna, Dabangg, Dabangg2, Ghayal, Damini.. plus countless worthless films including B grade) has been given credit for both screenplay and dialogue. Sajid-Wajid duo is not the sole music producer; DSP (Dhinka Chika fame) and Amal Malik (son of Dabboo Malik) have also contributed to the music. Remo D Souza (prolific choreographer) and Vinay & Radhika Sapru (Lucky no Time for Love) have directed the songs.

  26. cr7 11 years ago

Both the posters are good .

    • sputnik 11 years ago

Agree. Nice to see artistic posters for a Salman movie. Good that Salman is using his painting skills for the posters of his movies.

Premiering a trailer on multiple channels of a leading TV network like Star is unprecedented. That too prime time at 8:59 PM. Imagine the reach of the promo- the internet literate audience would know of it, but countless others would watch it by chance- it would be completely unexpected. Just like few years back while watching a movie on the big screen, an unexpected trailer of one’s favorite star’s next film or some other big film would send currents of joy through one’s system.

It is an amazing promotional idea, and no doubt facilitated by Salman Khan-Star Network deal, whose full ramifications are slowly getting revealed.

  28. DABANGG_NIINJA 11 years ago

baba ji poster kaisa laga πŸ™‚ yeh to bta do

    • Baba 11 years ago

jaisa baaki salman films ka laga waisa hi πŸ˜€ no one else features in them except him

  29. Anjanpur685Miles 11 years ago

The first poster looked ok and different. Second poster and teaser make it actually a formula-tic salman movie actually.

  30. shan 11 years ago

Salman looks like he wanted to smile but had to scream in the second poster πŸ˜€ Expression has some resemblance with that of Veeru (Dharam garam) πŸ™‚

Agree with sputnik it is good to see some “Artistic” posters for a Salman movie, but also agree with baba, it is looking not very unlike other Sallu movies with him dominating the proceedings. Nevertheless, just watching the 10 sec teaser with him swinging the bracelet to a thumping beat was enough to give me goosebumps πŸ™‚ Really hope the trailer is good, sans cliche and crass humor.

P.S. : I know some will say “Look, Salman fans are nervous. Saying same things again and again.” Cant vouch for others, but I am definitely nervous, and rightly so, considering Salman has been serving trash in the name of entertainment for years, barring a few exceptions. πŸ™‚

  40. mate 11 years ago

Posters are good but I’ve no doubt saying that the movie will be amongst his ‘ghatiya tareen’. For me, Salman ki recent movies main se sub se kum ghatiya movie Wanted thi but then it was a remake of Pokiri (telugu) that I really liked so I didn’t mind the hindi version. Us k baad Dabangg ka number hai, jo k ek aur ghatiya film thi lekin Wanted thodi kum thi. BG, ETT, D2 aur Ready were all equally amongst the most ghatiya movies of all time.
