Salim Khan talks about the reason for the Salim-Javed split

Check out this Salim Khan interview where he talks about the reason for the Salim-Javed split. He also says that he wrote Zanjeer and created the Angry Young Man persona much before Javed Akhtar had even joined him. He also tells how he had recommended Amitabh Bachchan and how Amitabh has not been truthful about his contribution to his career.

Another video where he talks about Originality and copying scenes of Sholay.

Yes its a 2010 Interview after Dabangg release. I posted it because he was talking about the reason for Salim-Javed split (post title is also about that).

Thanks for the link. I thought Salim was trying to take credit for everything including creating Amitabh Bachchan but then Amitabh’s admission proves that Salim was right.

I think to make a person especially if it is a superstar many people have hands…and the star probably can not each and everyone’s name and at occasions you pick and choose (because that guy is important..like Dharmendra was getting lifetime award) …But yes it seems they have significant hand…
I think Salim saab didn’t take Javed’s split nicely..

          Yes that’s true.

I think that could be because once they split Javed became the sole writer for Yash Chopra (Mashaal) and Ramesh Sippy (Saagar) for whom Salim and Javed used to write together.

I don’t remember where I read this and I cannot seem to find it – but the talk was that Javed actually wrote the stories and Salim was just the marketing guy. Even in this interview he is saying he did not want his name for lyrics together because people will see that he does not do anything to write lyrics and they might think it is same for stories.

This is my opinion but I think Javed used to come up with the whole meat of the story – the drama and all and Salim used to add the thrilling bits and one liners to it. I think they worked well as team.

I think Naam kind of vindicated him. That subway scene of Sanjay Dutt in Naam is a total Amitabh scene.

See writers tend to actually love what they write. If it becomes a big hit, they want a piece of its success which in our films generally goes to the person who enacts it. But then going overboard and feeling that Amitabh would have been nothing without them is untrue to much extent. Why couldn’t the same duo create any other emphatic persona. We also take this “angry young man’ stuff too seriously.Agreed with all the explanations but then that phrase is just a shortcut to explain what is much more than perceived. It is time Salim and Javed should sit down, have coffee and laugh over it.They are pantheons..so is Amitabh..let these baseless ego trips end.It is all a cumulative effort.
