Prem Ratan Dhan Payo Opens At Record Pace
Thursday 12 November 2015 12.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has opened at record pace and recorded a bumper opening of 70-75% on average across India. Its exactly a year since the word bumper came into play with Happy New Year and before that was Dhoom 3. It is a national holiday infact the biggest holiday of the year so the collections of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo will hold in the range of 70-75% through the day.

The film has seen a record release of 4200 screens in Hindi. The ticket rates are at similar levels to Bajrangi Bhaijaan and PK and have not gone in for the extra premium which happens for the next event film. The sort of opening that the film has taken means it is certain to emerge with highest opening day ever.

The real target is to add around 15% to the Happy New Year total which released on the same day last year which means going over 40 crore nett and that is a stiffer task but chances are there. The best opening was extraordinary across though the nation though West Bengal was lacking mainly as the advance here was also weaker than other parts of the country. It will be the second day which will show where the film stands in the various circuits.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has also been released in Telugu and Tamil as Prem Leela and Meymarandhen Paaraayo respectively but the response here is lukewarm.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo Sets New First Day Record
    Thursday 12 November 2015 23.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has broken all box office records on day one as collections looks set to finish in the 39-40 crore nett range for the Hindi version. The film has not only broken the first day record of Happy New Year but also emerged with the highest single day of all time edging past the Sunday figures of Bajrangi Bhaijaan and PK which were 38.50 crore nett apprx. The Telugu and Tamil versions of the film have not collected much and will be in the 1-1.50 crore nett range.

The film has set circuit records for the first day in most of the circuits though the usual suspects for a Hindi belt film like Mysore and Tamil Nadu / Kerala will probably fall short of records.

The first day record was crucial as it has slightly higher ticket rates and extra screens compared to Happy New Year which released on the same day last year. A lower figure despite being huge number would have spelt trouble. The reports of the film are mixed but that is sort of expected with a big film and the test will come tomorrow as collections do come down a fair bit after this big Diwali holiday.

History For Prem Ratan Dhan Payo On Day One
    Friday 13 November 2015 12.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo smashed all opening day box office records as it grossed 39 crore nett on day one beating the previous record of Happy New Year by around 2.75 crore nett. The film hit new opening day records in Mumbai, Delhi / UP, East Punjab, Rajasthan, CP Berar, CI, Bihar and Assam. There was an Telugu and Tamil version of the film but that did not do well with collections of less than 1 crore nett.

This is a huge number for this type of film as eventually its not the huge action blockbuster type of film despite the huge budget but its the second day that will tell the real level of the film.

The day after Diwali is Vishkarma day and is the best day for box office collections every year so there will be a drop. Happy New Year dropped around 25% on its second day but it was a Saturday for that film while its a Friday here. The three day weekend record is around 101 crore nett by Bajrangi Bhaijaan and that should be the target for Prem Ratan Dhan Paya but may not be easy as Bajrangi Bhaijaan had a holiday for Eid on Saturday and then the normal Sunday holiday while here it is just a day one holiday and a small restricted holiday on Friday and the Saturday.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo Set For Solid Second Day
    Friday 13 November 2015 22.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is set for a solid second day of around 29 crore nett. The film is showing a 25% drop on its second day which is par for the course after a big holiday. The hold is excellent in the Hindi belt with strong business in Gujarat / Saurashtra, Rajasthan, UP, CP Berar, CI and Bihar.

The fall in business has mainly come in East Punjab and Delhi city and this is probably because the first day was very high for this type of in the North belt. It remains to be seen whether this area can settle tomorrow as it is important for the long term success of the film.

The two day business is a huge 68 crore nett which already puts it amongst the top ten weekends of all time in just two days. The weekend record of Bajrangi Bhaijaan will be hard as the film has to grow well on Saturday and that won’t be easy.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo Has Excellent Extended Weekend
    Monday 16 November 2015 12.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo had an excellent extended four day weekend grossing nearly 122 crore nett in Hindi. The business of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo over the extended four day weekend is as follows.

    Thursday – 39,00,00,000

    Friday – 29,25,00,000

    Saturday – 28,25,00,000

    Sunday 25,75,00,000

    TOTAL – 121,75,00,000

The extended weekend number is huge but there has been a drop every day since release and that is okay on Friday and Saturday but should have reversed that trend on Sunday which it could not and had its biggest fall. The business in Mumbai, Rajasthan, CP Berar, CI, UP and Bihar is phenomenal but Delhi city is average and Punjab above average. This will tell on its collections on Monday and the fall will be more than normal but the hope will be its not a big fall.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo Tuesday Business
    Tuesday 17 November 2015 23.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo had a normal Tuesday fall of 10-15% and will collected around 9.5-10 crore on Tuesday taking its total to around 142-143 crore nett. The film was better in the North on Tuesday after that huge fall on Monday. But still the film is at low levels.

The circuits where it is doing very well like Gujarat / Saurashtra, Rajasthan, CP Berar and CI did see falls but collections are still very good and fall is inevitable considering the strong numbers. There are two days left in the week and it should be able to add another 14-15 crore nett to finish around 157 crore nett in the extended first week.

The only real question that remains is that will the film hit the 200 crore nett mark and that will only be known over the next 7-10 days with the second friday being all the important day for that target.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo Has Excellent Extended First Week
    Friday 20 November 2015 12.30 IST

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo has had an excellent extended eight first week of around 160 crore nett. The first week collections are the fifth highest of all time after Bajrangi Bhaijaan, PK, Dhoom 3 and Kick if we take the seven day week. Despite the huge first week it was a mixed trend after the first day which set opening day records in practically all the circuits.

The film started behaving differently across India from day two, some circuits were excellent while others had major falls and this continued through the weekdays. It is after a long time that there is such varied business across India for a big film. Some circuits are have done blockbuster first week numbers while others have not even done hit business,

The standouts are Gujarat / Saurashtra and Rajasthan which over seven days did all time record business. Next best are CP Berar and CI. The huge Gujarat / Saurashtra numbers have enabled Mumbai circuit to put up a big number.

Basically Gujarat has rescued the film somewhat, with Delhi and Punjab not performing, the next most important area Gujarat is phenomenal which has really helped its cause. It has been helped by extended holidays in Gujarat and it remains to be seen how the second week goes. The story is totally different in Delhi / UP where the first week is not even in the top five as Delhi city was a huge let down though UP did very well.

The final first week figures of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo will be entered below over the weekend as the final circuit figures come in.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo Day Eight Business
    Saturday 21 November 2015 11.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo saw a drop of collections on day eight as it grossed around the 3.75-4 crore nett mark. This was expected as North India was weak after day one and the films that really sustain well tend to be strong in North. Mumbai circuit tends to fall off outside Gujarat as a film goes into week two. The same has happened here with the Gujarat fall coming as collections were at very high levels on the weekdays.

Gujarat / Saurashtra has fallen but from its lofted levels but still collections are good. Normally it would be an 17-18 crore nett second weekend for the film but that has to seen as the growth is driven by Delhi and Punjab but here the film is not doing that well in these areas.

The average performance in some areas has meant that the business of the film on day eight is the third highest of the year after Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Tanu Weds Manu Returns when it really should have been the second highest.
