Thanks Sputnik
But I dont think anything related to him is more exciting that his own film “Do beegha zameen” ,….all this documentary is ok.
Liked the Hrishikesh Mukerjee part of it somehow…
But man….Do Beegha Zameen is something !!!
Mrs Bimal Roy is kind of thanda interview (she is the worst in this video IMO ..i am felt to say PODA so often…) ….and also others….the others comments kind of kill the brilliant movie. They feel like leeches on his work somehow !!
…apart from Devdas ofcourse !!
Thanks. Had watched this back in 90s on DD. I think it used to come on Sunday Morning. Have not seen Do Bigha Zamin though have seen bits of it. Will try to watch it soon.
Man, you havent seen “Do Beegha Zameen:”???
its high time u see it. ..
from the music to choreography ever thing is perfect in it – even from the first song “Hariyala song” …
I love Jalte hai Jiske liye too
mainly for Sunil Dutt 🙂

One of the Very Best, IMHO 2nd to Guru Dutt… Given one of India’s greatest Movie Do Bheeha zameen and other classics like Bandini, Madhumati ( genesis of re incarnation formula), Anand, Sujata ( touching Untouchability)… Progressive Themes and Powerful woman characters, One can just see it in climax of Bandini when Nutan has to take decision…
Thanks Sputnik for sharing 😀
You are welcome.
Have seen only Madhumati. While I liked the movie I think the reincarnation angle was totally unnecessary. The whole story including revenge part happens in the first life itself. The second life is there just for Dilip to remember his first life and then show the happy ending.
I think Madhumati itself borrows from Mahal which does not have the reincarnation track but hints at that for a major part of the movie. Bimal Roy was the editor of Mahal.
@Tulmul – Chota muhn badi baat …but his “Do Beegha Zameen” is anytime way bigger than Guru Dutt ever did!
Very good watch! I need to catch some of his movies.
Ritz :
I respect your opinion but Disagree…
Pyaasa is still unsurpass(able) IMHO…. Pyaasa and KKK are 2 films which led to discovery of Guru Dutt in India Via West… Wen French Critics raved and raved abt it, suddenly Indians found GD, Otherwise he was forgotten lot like his character in Pyaasa.
Pyaasa to me is #1 BW Movie… Than comes anything else…
Strictly My limited Opinion
I respect ur opinion too.
West or french. Whatever they may think…
For me “Do Beegha Zmeen” is the best film ever. 🙂
Maybe it symbolizes as THE movie for THE social change.
so you also took notice of pyaasa after reading the french raved it 😉
LOL. Baba.
Nope, Seen it before that and multiple times, almost all GD films from Baazi, Mr and Mrs 55, Pyaasa, KKK, CKC, SBAG… Pyaasa multiple times as Pyaasa songs were banned on All India radio 🙂 All Trivia
