Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara To Have Low First day

Thursday 15th August 2013 11.30 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara opened to good occupancies ranging from 80-100% but it will have low first day collections due to a bad release. The film has 6 shows on average per multiplex and the single screen chain is very poor.

So despite occupancies being very good due to the holiday it just does not have the potential to collect because of low screen count. Not only is the number of shows low but at some multiplexes it also has its shows in the small audi hampering collections further.

Chennai Express has treble the screen space of Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara in most cities so despite it being a national holiday, Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara will not really benefit and will have to depend on the Fri-Sat period for a respectable weekend.

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara Housefull But Nowhere To Go

    Thursday 15th August 2013 14.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara has seen 100% collections at many cities in the morning and afternoon but has nowhere to go due to limited screenings. The holiday factor and limited screenings has meant full houses on the opening day.

A centre like Gurgaon which is slow starter on the first day first show has seen 100% or near 100% collections in the first two shows and this despite Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara being more of a Mumbai circuit film rather than Delhi or Punjab. The film has 40 shows in Gurgaon while big films today open to over 100 shows in the city.

Its the same story all over with very good occupancies but unable to amass collections. Delhi/UP circuit is looking at around 1.25 crore nett collections on day one and that is not much higher than what Chennai Express collected on its paid previews.

@DABANG_NIINJA, Just read the article, there is no question of deceiving. I think UTV and SRK keep with their agreement. Today OUATIMD released on 1300 screens with multiple shows in multiplexes throughout the whole day while CE was released in the same number of screens last thursday but shows were started after 6PM.
From tomorrow, OUATIMD will hold 2500 screens approx. that were more than enough. I think UTV are in loss here, but it’s good to see that they fulfil their promise. I don’t see any film that was released on 3550 screens, hold less than half of the screens in its 2nd week especially when it is performing so well infact on record-breaking spree. But hats off to the UTV and SRK that they didn’t turn back from their words, even though they have to suffer.

    • Reddemon 11 years ago

It needs ‘golden heart’ to empty more than half of screens just aftr first week when your movie is having a dream run. Specially after collecting 19cr on Thursday

Posted by Kaalia You May Also Like News on: Sonakshi Sinha at Thursday, August 15, 2013
So, around 80-90 cinemas in India have almost decided the screen for Friday (16th August) of Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara, which is released today (15th August) and also of Chennai Express which released last week. From tomorrow, Friday the 16th August will see a screen share between OUATIMD and Chennai Express. OUATIMD is set to get around 58-60% of screen share from Friday. Whereas Chennai Express is set to have 40-42% of screen share from Friday.
In Delhi City, OUATIMD has got around 59% of screen share in comparison to Chennai Express which has got around 41% of screen share for Friday. In Mumbai City, OUATIMD has got screen share of 57% in comparison to Chennai express which has got around 43% for tomorrow. These are taken from sample reports from the mentioned cities. Overall picture of all India is also same.
OUATIMD should have a screen release size of 2350-2400 from 16th August (Friday) for the coming week. This is a big release considering Chennai Express has got bumper running till now. It is rejoice for all Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Imran Khan fans.
Chennai Express has able to retain around 1650-1700 screens from 16th August (Friday) for the coming week. This is a huge benefit for Chennai Express has it has already got solid Holiday Week running and in also second week getting a sizeable screen size to rule the box office.
Exhibitors are extremely confident that coming weekend will also do record breaking business by both the film. They have made a good balance of both the films. Now it is upto the merit of the films and audiences to choose from the film. Everyone is extremely happy now.

Tentative Screen Size from Friday (16th August) –

    OUATIMD – 2350-2500 approx.
    Chennai Express – 1650-1700 approx.

Note – Final Screen size may change a little bit, but it will be miniscule in number as most of the exhibitors have already decided.

I think we can expect OUATIMD to crash after sometime..response has been negative from whatever little I have heard.

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara has done well on day one although the first day number will not be very strong of around 10-11 crore nett. The film has collected just about as much as it could on its release which was just around 1200 screens.

The film was houseful at most places due to it being a national holiday and film having a very restricted release.

The key for the film is what happens on Saturday as it is not a holiday but the film will add 1000 screens approx which will give it the potential to collected a bigger total. Even if the film was to collect a big number on Saturday the fact remains it really has got no benefit of such a major holiday like Independence Day

  7. DABANGG_NIINJA 11 years ago

    huge

  8. DABANGG_NIINJA 11 years ago

Friday 16th August 2013 10.30 ISTBoxofficeindia.Com Trade Network Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara collected around 8.50-9 crore nett on day one. The film managed good collections at most places though due to shows being limited it could not collected a big number. The had first day figures in places like CP Berar, CI and Nizam. The film released late in Rajasthan at around 3pm which kept that circuit down a bit. The test for the film is today as the release is wider and will not get the occupancies of the first day as it is not a holiday. It will be important for the film to add around 30-40% at a minimum on the first day collections. Due to the film not making much out of the Independence day holiday the extended weekend business will not be as it should be even if the film was to go on and have a strong Fri-Sun period.

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara Has Fair Start On Friday
    Friday 16th August 2013 11.00 IST
    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara had a fair start on Friday which is actually its real first day as the release was not even 50% of what it should be on Thursday. The Friday occupancies were a decent 50-60%.

It will be interesting to see if the film can go higher than its 9 crore nett figure of Thursday or will it be that the holiday factor on Thursday just cancels out the wider release on Friday.

The film has doubled and even trebled its shows at some multiplexes but the single screen release is a concern as its a poor chain with a lot of low collecting theatres. The film will perform better in circuits like Mumbai, CP Berar and Nizam and it was a similar story for Once Upon A Time In Mumbai released in 2010.

Chennai Express completed its first week cycle with extraordinary numbers. The film, which mixes Shah Rukh Khan’s charm with Rohit Shetty’s knack for action, has crossed the Rs 150-crore mark in its first week. It has also started its second week on a fabulous note. The film marks its eighth day today and tradewallahs believe it will enjoy a superlative second weekend as well. Chennai Express is expected to earn Rs 10 crore plus all-India NBOC today.

    Rajesh Thadani, Multimedia Combines, Mumbai

Chennai Express is holding high even on its eighth day at the ticket counter. Today, exhibitors have reduced the number of shows but in spite of this, the film will earn close to Rs 10 crore all-India and Rs 3.5 crore in Mumbai. The film will have a smooth ride at the weekend as well.

Brijesh Tandon, HK Tandon and Company, Delhi-UP

Shah Rukh Khan’s fans are the most loyal audience there is. They range from age 8 to 80 and are even revisiting cinemas to watch their favorite star. Moreover, Chennai Express is a Rohit Shetty-style entertainer. Today Chennai Express will clock in Rs 1.5 crore.

Jaspal Dhingra, Nanaskar Enterprise, East Punjab

Chennai Express is doing good business and will touch Rs 200 crore, lifetime all-India. Today the film will reel in around Rs 50 lakh in East Punjab. It is a huge achievement for a film to hold strong at the ticket counter on its eighth day.

Sarang Chandak, Shri Rang Films, CP

In spite of the reduced number of shows today, Chennai Express still had a strong grip over the ticket counter, and occupancy hasn’t dropped. It’s a long weekend and families are watching the film more than once. Today the film will do business of around Rs 60 lakh.

    Gaurav Gaur, O’Real Imaginations, Rajasthan

Chennai Express’s shows have been reduced in Rajasthan but I think exhibitors will raise the number next week. This is because it is doing great business. Today the film will earn Rs 65 lakh.

    Jeetu Khandelwal, Movie Pioneers, Orissa

Chennai Express is bringing in very good business in Orissa. The film will collect around Rs 11 lakh on its eighth day. The Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone Jodi is entertaining the audience to the fullest.

wow!!! amazing feedback abt CE from trade analysts… i m damn sure nw dat the film gonna break 3I recrod…

HAPPY NEWS FOR ALL SRK FANS!!! ENJOY THE SUCCESS

Coming to OUATIMD… watched the movie dis nyt at Cineplex, Dubai..went jst bcoz i had watched the prequel nd wanted to follow the story.. Believe me its a colossal disappointment..there was no story and no script sense at all… the director is to be blamed for it… the major problem lied in its starcast.. none of them were suitable for the characters they played…

sonakshi is irritable.. imran is expressionless… boring songs and above all the main lead akshay is a complete miscast… he was simply unacceptable in that role with poor dialogue delivery…

if was released with CE, it would have been a complete wash out… knowing the drawbacks, i am sure nw why balaji postponed their disaster to 15 august…

Only Ajay Devgan could have played the main lead role with perfection and style… his screen presence was enough to bring claps and whistles from the audience…

Chennai Express has collected Rs 156.71 crore in its first week at the box office, to become the first Hindi film ever to cross the 150 crore mark in one week (7 days including paid previews). The previous best first week collection record of Rs 137.15 crore, was held by Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger, which has been trounced!

Like one of the songs in the film, Chennai Express has done well from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. A couple of circuits that didn’t initially open to record breaking numbers put up excellent figures towards the end of the first week. The film was also rock-steady during the weekdays, and ended the week with second highest collections on Independence Day – the previous best was the opening day of Ek Tha Tiger.
    Chennai Express Box office

    Chennai Express Box office

CE is Shahrukh Khan’s first universal hit since Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008) and also his biggest grosser ever. In just 7 days, the film has also gone past some of Bollywood’s biggest blockbusters like Rowdy Rathore, Bodyguard and Dabangg.

Chennai Express First Week Collections and Records – Day wise

Paid Previews – 6.75 crore (broke the record by a huge margin)
Friday – 33.12 crore (highest single day and first day)
Saturday – 28.06 crore (15% drop) (highest second day and Saturday)
Sunday – 32.50 crore (16% growth) (highest third day and Sunday)
Monday – 12.62 crore (61% drop) (second highest non-holiday Monday)
Tuesday – 11.50 crore (9% drop) (second highest non-holiday Tuesday)
    Wednesday – 12.56 crore (9% growth) (highest non-holiday Wednesday)
Thursday – 19.6 crore (55% growth) (second highest Independence day collections)
Total – 156.71 crore (record weekend)

    Verdict: BLOCKBUSTER

A special mention for the marketing team behind Chennai Express, who have gone all out to promote the Rohit Shetty entertainer even after its theatrical release last week. SRK too has been tirelessly promoting his film all over, right from visiting theatres across Mumbai (including the iconic Maratha Mandir) to interacting with fans on social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook.

For those associated with the film, there is absolutely nothing that is more satisfying than box office success, because at the end of the day success at the ticket windows means the film has been liked and well-appreciated. Congratulations to Rohit Shetty, Shahrukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and the entire team behind the blockbuster success of Chennai Express. Truly well deserved.

OUTAIMD’s Fortunes Plunge On Day Two
by Soumita Sengupta (August 16, 2013)

The fortunes of Balaji Motion Pictures’ Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara! (OUATIMD) dropped considerably today, a far cry from its opening day when shows ran almost house full across territories. The film’s dipping fortunes come in spite of an increase in the number of screens today, and the film is likely to earn near Rs 10 crore on day two, all-India NBOC. Distributors say word-of-mouth publicity is not in favour of the film, which has accounted for its volatile business prospects.
    Rajesh Thadani, Multimedia Combines, Mumbai
There is a huge drop in the film’s business today. Since the film was allotted more screens today, the film will manage around Rs 10 crore, all-India, and Rs 3.5 crore NBOC in Mumbai.
Brijesh Tandon, HK Tandon and Company, Delhi-UP
The collections have nosedived today. Although footfalls increased during the evening shows, the collections aren’t as good as we had hoped. Today, the film will reel in Rs 1.5 crore in Delhi UP. It’s doing a better business in UP compared to Delhi.
Jaspal Dhingra, Nanaskar Enterprise, East Punjab
OUATIMD had a mixed response from the audience. Even the reports of the film are not very impressive. On day two today, the film will garner around Rs 90 lakh in East Punjab. Word-of-mouth publicity is working against the film.
Sarang Chandak, Shri Rang Films, CP
OUATIMD saw a huge fall today. Usually, Akshay Kumar’s film do average business in CP but OUATIMD was expected to do better than it is at present. The film will earn close to Rs 70 lakh today. The number of screens has increased but the film has failed to charm the audience.
    Gaurav Gaur, O’Real Imaginations, Rajasthan
Screenings of OUATIMD began in the afternoon in Rajasthan yesterday but the film didn’t see much hype or positive word-of-mouth. Today, the film will garner Rs 70 lakh in Rajasthan.
    Jeetu Khandelwal, Movie Pioneers, Orissa
In Orissa, OUATIMD saw barely 20-per cent business till the evening show. Today, business will be around Rs 6 lakh. Despite being allotted more shows and screens, the film did not stir up enthusiasm among the audience.

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara had good start on Thursday in tems of occupancies. This was due to it being a holiday and the film having a limited release which allowed it go houseful at many places. The film went wide on Friday and recorded average occupancies and collections were lower at many palces despite extra screenings. The film will struggle at the box office.

Chennai Express set new benchmarks as it grossed around 145 crore nett in week one. The film dropped on Friday as compare to what it did in week one though the collection on Friday is pretty good and will be amongst the top five second Friday’s of all time. Looking at the likley second week trends the film will emerge the biggest or second biggest domestic grosser of all time. BLOCKBUSTER

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara Fails To Grow On Day Two
    Saturday 17th August 2013 11.00 IST

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara disappointed on its second day with collections less than day one despite the release going wide with 1000 screens added.
The collections on day two are around 9 crore nett which takes the two day business to around 18.50 crore nett. The film grew in the Maharashtra area where the release was very weak on day one but the rest of the country saw collections drop with some circuits dropping 30%.
The film will find it tough to reach the 40 crore nett mark over the extended weekend which is a poor return for such a big film.

didnt expect outim to be a total washout.seqeul to a 60 cr grosser,4 years ago with non stars. leaving the poor release strategy aside, the film has no merit of its own it seems. it is showing in the collections since friday.ce bo is going to change the online fan structure for a while.
srk was challenged by ranbir in yjhd, he rose to the challenge, threw ranbir out of his way like a piece of shit and now even 3i is on the verge of being kicked out as the bigest grosser.

the only bad outcome for srk from ce is this success will drive him to work more often in such films and it doesnt do any good to his filmography.

      Agree Baba.

The new project Happy New Year, again looks like on a masala multi-starer category. Audience will definitely throng for it, but the filmography of SRK will get affected. Need some hatke movie from him, a Swades or CDI or a low budget thriller.

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara Drops Further On Saturday

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara dropped further on Saturday as it collected around 7.75-8 crore nett. The film dropped in every circuit across the country. The collections in three days are around 26.50 crore nett.
The film has fared poorly with its three day collection being less than the Chennai Express day one collection in every circuit.
It could even turn out that the film’s best day is the first day when the release was restricted as the film has not been liked and the collections have come down a lot and may not be able to back towards the 10 crore nett mark on Sunday.

@Baba – SRK has done much more with CE.

Yes he responded to the Ranbir challenge with a tight slap – but also did it in the masala format making fun of his own romcoms. He ended up making Ranbir’s biggest romcom hit YJHD look small and also gave a grosser in the masala format that is going to go past salman’s biggest one ETT and also will be the first movie to beat Aamir’s biggest grosser with social message – 3 Idiots!

Three birds in one shot. That too with a damn silly shot like CE … where will aamir salman ranbir hide now? the star on decline has made all of them look silly …

Not to forget CE is one reason why another superstar akshay’s most hyped sequel has turned out to be a non-starter and a total washout.

If SRK’s next HNY turns out like OSO then it will again do 200+ cr. And Rohit Shetty already planning another movie with SRK.

One may say these masala stuff isnt adding much to srk’s filmography – but heck, does salman’s any movie or Ranbir’s YJHD/Besharam do anything better for them? or Aamir doing a dhoom movie?

Akshay/Devgn cant even get masala work in these times (Himmatwala/OUATIMD/Khiladi786) – they seriously cant be considered in the same league as Khans, considering the business generated by inane stuff like CE/ETT/Bodyguard/Dabangg etc etc.

The only good thing is neither Salman or SRK takes these movies seriously, but Aamir is ‘different’ since he is willing to invest so much in a Dhoom movie! (even if the third movie turns out better than the first two, this genre hardly deserves the amount of time and effort Aamir has put in here).

And all the talk about ‘respectability’ for Bollywood superstars are a hogwash in reality – stars like SRK and Salman publicly laugh at it, in their interviews – coz they know what this industry and their audience stand for.

A guy like Aamir is one confused soul. He has never got any pure art-house movies to achieve BO success in his 25 year old career – be it Raakh in his initial days or Earth 1947 in the middle years or a Dhobi Ghat at the peak of his career. All he has done is mix commercial movies with some kind of social-message and get them to work for the bigger audience – thats commendable of course. But his respectability takes a serious beating when he does a Fanaa for every RDB, a Ghajini for every TZP or a Dhoom for every 3 Idiots. He is averse to taking calculated risk continuously, instead indulges in most ridiculous scripts like Fanaa from time to time and then takes years to get them released.

Had his filmography only consisted of Lagaan, DCH, RDB, TZP, 3I and DB in the last few years, the story would have been different. But when u are excited abt doing a Ghajini to beat RNBDJ, or about D3 beating the BO collections of Krrish – then something is wrong somewhere.

bored – brilliant comments , both of them , cant disagree much. but still compared to salman and akshay, historically i think srk has done a better mix. he has had a swades, cdi once in a while. salman doesnt even try to delve into anything other than masala as he knows he will fail. ETT had a golden opportunity to be a intense spy thriller with a director like kabir khan (think KE, NY) at helm. but the film eventually turned out to be more or less a typical brianless salman ad campaign. i am afraid the same is going to happen with srk, he has tasted blood with CE.

Excellent comments Bored. Agree with almost everything you said.

As soon as, Salman started replicating his remarkable success post Dabangg again and again with mind numbing collections, this theory that Aamir alone can bring out certain audience who would never normally watch any hindi movie etc was proved redundant. Infact, those niche audience didn’t matter at all. With success of films like Kahani and several other small budget good films releasing, the exclusivity that Aamir is the only savior of quality in Hindi movies, went out of the window.

Aamir still has P.K, they would unleash old PR story on us again, “Aamir the cult superstar is back” … “Aamir’s inputs made Hirani’s script even better” … “Aamir the guru of marketing” etc ..

  43. Bored 11 years ago

    Thanks Baba – u r too kind!

Only thing i liked in CE was the way SRK ridiculed his own romcom ‘history’ using today’s so-popular ‘bastardized masala’ format – kudos to him! It takes guts to do that and Rohit Shetty’s wicked sense of humor (even though its a completely crass one). He did it in Bol Bachchan too. Abhishek Bachchan gets to save his ass by posing as a ‘gay’ – didnt his gay act in Dostana raise some laughs and much-needed box office cheers when his every other movie was failing left and right?

Coming back to SRK and CE – the last time i witnessed such effective self-deconstruction was in Zoya Akhtar’s LBC. There she wickedly made fun of the romantic moments of Hrithik’s early career movies – but then she also saved hrithik’s ass by portraying the ‘real’ star as someone cynical, caustic and well aware of his own ridiculousness when he is out of the sets. That was hardly as gutsy as SRK in CE where he uses his rival’s ridiculous format to make fun of his own genre strengths from start to finish in a 3 hr fun ride. And it also makes our younger stars pissing on paddy fields singing DDLJ song totally redundant and poor in taste.

The BO numbers of CE has cemented the fact that SRK’s romcom days are over – and that he knows it much better than his own audience. And he himself can make more fun of it than another new star kid on the block.

Dunno about others – but SRK has found a new fan in me with CE.

” u r too kind!” i am not , you should ask other members here 😉 they think i am overcritical. your comments have keen observations and they are short in length 😀

yes srk is in self-depricating mode in CE. i said it in my review. jokes about his ddlj image, his age, facial looks, girls making fun of him etc. i think after a long while he played a vulnerable, cowardly practical guy like his yess boss, khkn days. i wont call even his rndj role vulnerable, even there he was playing this “God of romance” like his kjo,yrf films.

  45. saurabh 11 years ago

@bored in oso also he made fun of his romantic movies too, like in award scene nd smwere in 2nd half, In interviews stage shows also he do it… He knows he will not be very much successful in action masala movies,he know well he can do oso nd ve type masala movies… In an interview when asked abt jthj’s length, he said he know the movie is long, even when he was asked about kank’s failure, he replied that he knew this will not work in India.. Nd mimp thing is that ce is full masala movie after oso or let say rnbdj.. I guess star knows what is working for him,or were he went wrong.

I haven’t seen CE. What have I been reading about it amazes me? Apart from a few confused SRK fans who like him more in MNIK and not in CE, most of his detractors haters have given it a decent rating. I wonder how the movie can be that good?

This guy Alex who dedicated a poem to rejoice failure of JTHJ, actually has defended SRK in Satyamshot. Uktal who swore this would be SRK’s Himmatwala has now declared that SRK is one of the superstars with innate intelligence about audience… Wow! Can’t believe what I am reading. Are you guys going soft on SRK? Did he give out any underdog vibe that I had missed????

I feel more and more alienated from Bollywood. I expected OSO kind of deal. The type that everyone ins Satyamshot detests are pure vommit and something particularly suprabh writes super sarcastic review on. May be suprabh’s verdict will make it clear, where the movie stands….

    • Baba 11 years ago

“I wonder how the movie can be that good?”

actually the movie is far from good.its an avg movie at best.what works is the acting of the leads and the self depricating humour.but it doesnt mean that srk is perfect, he is bad and ott in many scenes. deepika has given a career best performance . the first half is like an outsiders perspective to tamil cinema world and infact ce mocks it a lot. its the second half where i felt it actualy becomes like a south movie.the climax is a downer and doesnt look like a part of the original script.hwoever, overall i think its srks most decent film since cdi. ofc again it doesnt mean it is even remotely close to the latter. it shows how poor his films hv been from rnbdj to jthj 😛

  47. Bored 11 years ago

CE is as far away from OSO as chalk is from cheese. OSO was abt the perpetual winner playing his game at his peak and thus having the leverage to make a little fun of himself, the industry and his audience.

CE is the live example of a top player past his prime, yet dares to adopt his competition’s game-plan, then plays it to gallery showing his audience that the new popular game is too easy-peasy … and in the process he deliberately makes fun of his old game.

Now, such a master-play deserves respect and is getting due respect from all quarters. His own fans are happy and relieved to see him winning again. Fans of his competition cant ignore this film as they are essentially fans of this ‘game’. And even for guyz like me who are neither too inclined towards romcoms or bastardized masala – are showing due respect to what srk has pulled off here …

Is it surprising that CE is racing ahead of all expectations at box-office?

    • phoenix 11 years ago

Its weird, that if SRK isn’t winning as compared to Salman, he is past his prime. Its like saying Sachin isn’t man of the match, he is out of form. Anyway, its not the Boxoffice that surprised me. In the sense, I have never cared for it. The reviews surprised me.

When I said I expected OSO kind of deal, I meant audience reception. OSO was accepted by masses and SRK’s fan base. The rest disliked it.

  48. rajesh 11 years ago

One welcome change in SRK’s behaviour post CE’s success is that this time he is not boasting “I am the King” syndrome inspite of Humongous numbers thrown by CE.

As far as records are concerned, with wider releases and increasing ticket prices, these will get broken every few months (YJHD weekend record barely lasted one month) though CE’s weekend record can remain for some time.

    • Baba 11 years ago

i think i said this before but let me repeat. there was a time when srk used to proclaim “beating” tom cruise in opening. it took 3 flops, one wankhede and a hug from salman to bring him back to earth 😉

Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara Has Dull Weekend

    Monday 19th August 2013 10.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai 2 had a dull weekend as it grossed around 36 crore nett and that over four days. A 36 crore nett figure over three days would have been respectable but averaging 9 crore nett a day over a four day weekend is disappointing.

The film has fared very poorly in places like South India and West Bengal and these are the places where Chennai Express has broken all records.

The problem for Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara was that its first day remained the best day despite the release being much smaller on day one. Basically the film collected well on the holiday (in terms of how much the release let it collect) but it was totally downhill after that and even Sunday not giving the film much of a lift.

  51. saurabh 11 years ago

@bored ya. it is very surprising for me too, though i m his fan,
but i always believed srk is doing good, and he is taking risk, and doing different things.
like MNIK was nt a mass entertainer yet got good response,
Ra one, it could break box office records, it was ok ok movie, and publicity was huge, so in one week it could break records, though after a week only movie’s wom works. but due to huge negative publicity just after a day, it fell down just in a week.
Don 2 it was lesson on marketting, and reviews were ok ok, some people loved it, and some didn’t. though movie could break the records but again it was lil different than masala and promotion was not huge, also ra one duds played against it.
about JTHJ it came with sos, so it couldn’t break any records, i guess if it came alone then it could break opening and 1st week records given the hype around movie.. and it was romance too, and it that romance also it was like foolish romance.

so i never believed he is out of race, constant comparisons were happening with salman. it just his best phase, he was nt doing masala movies, taking risks.

btw it cant be compared with 3I. coz 3I released with less screens and less price, though it was better movie than CE and it had repeat value too.

  52. saurabh 11 years ago

@phonix i agree with you “Its weird, that if SRK isn’t winning as compared to Salman, he is past his prime” “The reviews surprised me.”

Hhh hh wah re wah Don2 masala movie nhi he pr ett he .hh jthj me srk ne kat ke sath khub masala bhara wo masala nhi he kyu ki srk movie he .

  54. saurabh 11 years ago

@rajesh, i guess that is because he knows he is not the king right now, he knows salman has more appeal in india right now, and aamir is there, i guess he also left this competition thing,
when a interviewer asked him about ranbir’s popularity and competition with him, he told like that i dont think abt competition at all, i think about making a big picture, a big studio, vfx, taking indian cinema to high level” so i guess he is now thinking about doing big things,

also in a recent interview he said about the money which he got from CE, “I’ll use this money in making small movies in the time of shooting HNY, I just want to make movies by no compromise, i’ll collect money from stahe shows, wedding dance, ads, other stupid things, there i’ll do compromise, but in movies i want to invest my own money without compromise, i can sell my soul for movies ”

also he said now he wanted to make movies for his children to feel proud. and also after new son coming and some change in thinking(his honest interviews now a days, hos sharing of fears, insecurities, and constant tiredness due to controversies, less success) i guess he became humble now,

What Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara taught us?
By Satish Sundaresan, Aug 19, 2013 – 10:56 IST, BOLLYWOOD HUNGAMA

Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara which released last week is known to have dialoguebaazi on another level. Though this gangster film had its moments of chills and thrills, we decided to take a quirky look at the lessons the film taught us.

    1) When someone says that your future is bright, please wear sunglasses / glares!

    2) When you want your ‘match’ to be ‘fixed’ with a girl, take her to a fixed cricket match, wherein you can call the shots. She will be mighty impressed.

    3) Whenever your friend says that he is in love with a girl, waste no time and immediately ask him the details of the girl. Else, ‘coincidence’ hone mein der nahi lagti!

    4) A married lady will never spend time with her husband in the men’s loo.

    5) If your girl wants to see the stars, tell her that she can see them even when she is standing on the ground. There’s no need to buy a palatial terrace flat for her to see the stars.

    6) A girl can make even the best of gangster forget his ‘business’ and make him live with the illusion that she is in love with him.

    7) Any ‘top’ level gangster is never happy with one wife! He likes to have his ‘branches’ opened all over.

    8) In case your parents are against your marriage with the person of your choice, search for a secluded place park your car and make it your home, to ‘meet’ your love in peace.

    9) It’s advisable that you know the difference between ‘intercourse’ and academic ‘inter-course’.

    10) The best way to obtain paneer is by squeezing lemon in milk.

Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara Drops On Monday
    Tuesday 20th August 2013 10.00 IST
    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara dropped On Monday as it collected around 3.75-4 crore nett taking its total to around 40.50 crore for five days. The week should go to around 50-51 crore nett as it should show a jump for Raksha Bandhan on Wednesday though as the film has been rejected the jump will not be huge.
The film has emerged on of the biggest disappointments of the year as even if we allow for the not so great release the collections are still much lower than what they should have been. In some circuits the film has collected less in five days that what Chennai Express collected on day one.
The film may just about the best the collections of Once Upon a Time In Mumbaai released in 2010 but there is also a chance it may not even get to the 58 crore nett lifetime figure of that film.

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai collected around 8.50 crore nett on Tuesday and Wednesday which is 2 crore nett lower than Chennai Express. Despite the limited jump it has ensured the film at least manages to collect 50 crore nett plus in week one.

Once Upon a Time In Mumbai Dobaara Grosses 51 Crore In Week One

    Friday 23rd August 2013 10.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara collected 51 crore nett in its extended first week of 8 days. The collections would gave been just about respectable if it was a normal seven day week and not an extended eight day holiday week.

The film has suffered on all accounts, it had a bad release, competition from a very successful film and above all the appreciation was not there.

The film has not done well anywhere while circuits where Chennai Express is a phenomenal hit like West Bengal and Mysore the business of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara is just awful. The second week has seen multiplex shows go down to four on average which means the won’t gross much more than 60 crore in its run.

The single screen business for the film is also mediocre but that has a lot to do with the fact the film has a bad chain of single screens. If the film had played on good single screens it could have put up decent figures especially at the muslim centres.

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara Has Huge Drop

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara had a huge drop in its second weekend grossing 4.50 crore nett approx. The fall from last weekend is close to 90%.
The total after the second weekend is 55.50 crore nett and it is looking to close at 58 crore nett after two weeks and then it may just get to 60 crore nett lifetime. The business of the film is in the same range as Akshay Kumar’s last two starrers Khildai 786 and Special 26 which did 63 crore nett and 65 crore nett respectively but while those numbers are fair for those films its not the case for Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara as its a much bigger film.
The film has not managed to do well anywhere, even Mumbai circuit where there is more appreciation for underworld films has seen a huge fall in the second weekend.
