    Good post!

I was thinking abt most of these acts after watching Dhoom 3. Bollywood stars have this weird need to do OTT retarded acting and i guess they all think its the ultimate display of their ‘acting’. Do they even watch these movies? (if they did they may have committed suicide!)

These are unintentionally funny and embarrassing – more than annoying. Its the entire gimmicky approach of bollywood to go OTT and loud and overact/ham like hell to drive in the point – ‘see I am a retard’.

I often wonder if these stars are really so insensitive that they get sadistic pleasure to make such a display (its almost like making fun of the real life people who are unfortunately born with mental challenges – not self inflicted ones like these stars).

It was disappointing to see Aamir entering this elite club … that too in a Dhoom movie (makes it most laughable and annoying out of this list). Ajay was once doing good work and had a reputation of being a decent actor – then he did Main Aisa Hi Hoon and his reputation took some serious beating. He was even worse than hrithik’s hamming in KMG.

Even SRK’s decline in his popularity in recent times coincided with RNBDJ/MNIK retarded acts. No one was willing to take Hrithik seriously after KMG for quite some time. As for Salman in Tere Naam or Akshay in JEM – less said the better!

Btw, KK was as irritating as Kajol in K3G. Parineeta is Rani kind of annoying actress – irritating, loud and quarrelsome.

“they all think its the ultimate display of their ‘acting’.” completely agreed. The thing is in bw, traditionally, if you dont overact and be loud, you are considered wooden or underperformance. subtelty is a concept rarely found in our films.that is why if they play a retard, they will be totally retarded to the point of getting on the nerves.

Ranbir is supposed to play mute and deaf in barfi but he was acting like a retard for some reason. Hrithiks voice was annoying in KMG and i think even in some of his other films like mpkdh and guzarish you can see glimpses of that retarded kmg act. srk repeated some of his mannerisms from mnik into ra1.ajay in MHHH was suuposed to play a kid and he was acting like a lunatic.you shud see sean penne in the original.

    • Baba 10 years ago

“It was disappointing to see Aamir entering this elite club ”

there is a scene in second half where aamir as samar is dressing up and he talks to sahir about his date with katrina. his mannerisms were almost gayish there with the blinking/tinkling of the eyes. It reminded me of a similar scene in Rajendra kumars Gaon humara shaher tumhara where kumar was almost acting gay , in an attempt to look innocent and cute.

LOL. Good topic .From your list I found Ajay very annoying in Main aisa hi hoon .HR’s retarded act in k3 is way more annoying.I found him kind of adorable in kmg . I liked that film too . But I was a kid back then . D3 has abhisek and uday .Nothing else can be more annoying than them . And I think Aamir did a decent job . a Don’t agree with other choices . Have found many characters annoying . can’t seem to remember all of them now . Will share my views later.

    • Baba 10 years ago

cr – what did you think of that ali zafar in chasme badoor. I felt like walking out of the theatre many times solely due to his irritating act.

      • cr7 10 years ago

lol .The whole movie was annoying . Agree about zafar’s voice .I found SDR very irritating .Both sushant and parineet’s character were annoying of highest order . have u seen it ?

        • Baba 10 years ago

sushant singh and parineeti are among my worst/most overrated actors list so i had to see sdr 😛

  3. mate 10 years ago

Ajay, Kajol and Parineeti are certainly annoying in those roles. HR act could be enjoyed even If you are not a kid, but definitely neither annoying nor special. Salman hammed in Tere Naam which I don’t mind, but that hamming was nothing as compared to Aamir’s Ghajini Act. Aamir act in D:3 is enjoyable, not annoying but must say, his ‘performance’ was not meant to be any special kind of deal here, as some people tried to mention it in the same breath as some memorable acts that were author-backed. If we go by western standard, it was a poor act without any shed of doubt. To mention Ranbir (Barfi) and SRK (MNIK) in this list is as big a sin as to mention Rani (Black) here, I’m surprised why the author of this post didn’t mention Rani here, and I don’t know while amalgamating genres, funny stuff with prestigious stuff, what he want to prove.

    • Baba 10 years ago

there is nothing like funny/prestigious stuff in any of them. fans of each of those stars think their star did some ground breaking performance in them . its a joke. indian actors dont know the meaning of subtelty.they essay a retarded character so they can be loud and give too many expressions because they know it is amusingly considered “acting” by some.

Only Baba can come up with such posts 🙂

I agree that whenever mainstream Bollywood actors have tried to play a mentally challenged role, it never looked convincing. But two roles come to my mind, who I guess played their respective part very well. Sanjeev Kumar in Koshish and Anil Kapoor in Eeshwar. Though Sanjeev’s role was not of a mentally challenged guy, he played a role of deaf & mute, but the way he played the role, my parents were very impressed with him and subsequently, I also had tremendous appreciation for Sanjeev. Anil Kapoor as mentally challenged guy in Eeshwar looked flawless.

    • Baba 10 years ago

thank you I.one. I am glad you agree with the broader point 🙂

  5. Baba 10 years ago

bored – i found kareena decent in K3g. atleast she looked young and fit in it. Kajol was like a loud fat behenji desparately trying to get attention in an ensemble cast with silly dialogues.I hated all her scenes.

you are right about parineeti and rani. About parineeti , the issue is sometimes she will try to be a modern girl and then sometimes she would act childish and desparate. In ishaqzaade, there is a scene where some goons are chasing parineti and arjun to kill them , they are able to dodge the villian and suddenly parineeti asks arjun “chal, ice cream khila na”.

  6. Manish 10 years ago

good list and agree to all of them .. add to that ali zafar he was rhyming dialogues in chashme baddoor and Mere brother ki dulhan both .. somehow so far from promo he looks ok in total siyappa .. i dont know why anyone wd bother to spend money on him :p

Another entry IMO shd be sonu nigham in Jaani dushman

    • Baba 10 years ago

mbkd is annoying film altogether. Imran with his usual fast speaking, as sputnik usually points out and katrina always sucks when she tries to be bubbly. I like her when she is laid back and speaks less.

      • I.One 10 years ago

Add Hrithik in Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon. I was not only annoyed, got irritated!

        • Baba 10 years ago

absolutely, but that is like mari hui film ko maarna 😉 it falls in the universally accepted bad films along with mela, chahat, hello brother etc. even those actors accept they were bad in it except aamir who thinks mela was a hit in heartlands of india! had written about it once https://tanqeed.com/when-hrithik-srk-akshayaamirsalman-hammed-to-the-hilt/

I picked those films which these delusional stars and thier fanboys consider their best performances

  7. sputnik 10 years ago

Good topic and nice choice of pictures.

Agree on Aamir in Dhoom 3. I had mentioned about Aamir’s gayish mannerisms in that scene 🙂 Actually I think he was just repeating the expressions he gave in that Yeh Rat Aur Yeh Duri song in AAA.

Agree on Hrithik in Koi Mil gaya and yes he was acting same way in MPKDH even though he was not a retard there. I think he did same stuff even in early parts of Lakshya where he is confused on what to do in life.

Yes Ajay in Main Aisa Hi hoon was horrible but I think even Sean Penn was annoying with his whiny voice.

Agree on Kajol in K3g and Parineeti in all films. I think Kareena tried to copy Archana Puran Singh in K3G and she got her mannerisms completely right but nobody got that she was copying her.

Liked SRK in MNIK back then but yeah they made him irritating in some scenes like the picture you posted. You have to agree that he was the best among Aamir, Hrithik and Ajay in similar roles 🙂 SRK has been irritating in so many movies Chahat, Duplicate, DTPH and the worst of all Ram Jaane. I think that’s his most irritating performance.

Ranbir in Barfi was not that irritating. It was just wrong performance in wrong movie. He should have acted like Sanjeev in Koshish since he was playing a mute guy. Instead he acted like a guy in a silent movie. If Barfi was a silent movie then it can be considered a very good performance. Priyanka was the irritating one in Barfi. I think Ranbir was far more irritating in Besharam.

Liked Salman in Tere Naam back then. When I recently watched some scenes did not like them much – the one where he yelling/crying with Bhoomika. I think he was good/decent after his head is slammed.

Been a while but I don’t remember being that much irritated with Akshay in Jaaneman.

Liked Deepika in CE, YJHD and Satyagraha. She was irritating in BKB

Rani was irritating in Black with her Charlie Chaplin act when she was playing a blind woman. Also Amitabh in Black, Aankhen, Kaante – basically any movie where he is constantly howling.

I think Katrina was irritating with that “Anti Family Man” scene in Yuvraaj.

Used to find Sridevi irritating in so many movies.

    • Baba 10 years ago

thank you 🙂 you dont remember akshays aweful sounding laugh from janeman? you need to see it again 😉
good to know a lot here agree with kajol in k3g. i have always found her loud, squeaky voice very irrirating. she got lucky to be paired with srk and got some hits. she actually won the best actress award for it that year! 😉

      • sputnik 10 years ago

Found her very irritating in Yeh Dillagi and Dushman too.

  8. mate 10 years ago

By the way, the author posted a still of every star where they gave an annoying facial expression. But in case of Deepika, her annoying expressions come from some other part, yeh to double standard hai bhai. 😛

    • Baba 10 years ago

mate. deepikas pic is intentional. i am glad you mentioned it 😛 i think spuntik will understand the most why i posted it and why deepika irritates me 😀

  9. Bored 10 years ago

SRK was annoying in MNIK – moreso bcoz it was supposed to be international political commentary. I think SRK in MNIK was worse than Aamir in D3, becoz Dhoom movie (even after they made it so regressive) is not serious stuff.
But i found SRK more irritating in RNBDJ and Aamir was quite intolerable in his Ghajini act -this is from annoying OTT pov.

I wudnt care abt Besharam or MPKDH as they were completely rejected by audience.
On Salman I think he played another annoying retard in Kyon Ki or sumthing like that – which was a flop too. But then I find Salman/Akshay acting like retards in most movies.

    • Bored 10 years ago

I shud also add that Aamir’s D3 retardness is far worse when it comes to perception and impact on audience than SRK’s MNIK. SRK dont have perception of good actor by large, but Aamir has (mainly due to his better body of work).

So one such ridiculous retard act can damage an actor’s reputation much more than any star’s. Just like MHN may have been a flop, but it hurt Devgan’s reputation much more than when Akhsay did a JEM.

  10. Dhamaka 10 years ago

Good topic Baba agree with most of the choices but i think instead of tere naam you should add Salman’s Kyon ki act in this list because i think his role in TN after he gets slammed is very simple blank faced one which doesn’t require any thing you just have to be expression less that’s it.
Hrithink in KMG was ok for me. aamir in D3 srk in MNIK and ajay in MAHH were very irritating.

    • Ipman 10 years ago

thanks dhamaka 🙂 yes kyon ki was bad but it was a flop and not talked much about. its copied from a jack nicholson film

  11. Bored 10 years ago

Apart from Madhuri, Tabu and Vidya – i find almost every other mainstream female actress as gigly-gigly annoying dumbos – and they all act retarded offscreen also. Deepika’s pic here says a lot abt current female stars.

  12. Sanket Porwal 10 years ago

Amitabh in K3G, Srk in Mohobattein, Salman in Veer, Aamir in second half of D3, Padmini Kolhapure in Phata poster, Uday Chopra in Dhoom2, Kangana in Rascals.

    • Ipman 10 years ago

amitabh in k3g? lol. agree on srk in mohabattein. kangana is usually unintentionally funny

      • cr7 10 years ago

Is padmini kohlapuri the mother in PPNH ?Then I completely agree . Hated Mohabbatein and agree that srk was annoying . Didn’t like Amitabh in k3g but he wasn’t annoying .

  13. sanket porwal 10 years ago

Cr- Yes, the one who plays mother. Bad acting and terrible writing can make such awful character!

  14. Bored 10 years ago

@Baba – Guess what is the worst part about these retarded acts?

They usually become blockbusters – exposing the star’s retardness to millions of viewers. Its amazing to see how proud respective star fans are abt high box-office numbers of such films – KMG, RNBDJ, MNIK (overseas) and now Dhoom 3.

They shud be ashamed that so many people are watching such embarrassing acts in theaters – big BO numbers in such cases carry the burden of long term negative perception – bigger the hit bigger the impact. But then what can u expect when they usually love and celebrate such acts.

    • Ipman 10 years ago

I hope d3 is the last time a big star attempted a retarded role as a gimmick.it has become a stale idea to get brownie points for “acting”

  15. alfa.one 10 years ago

Good post !!!! agreed with all !!! Recently watched old movie Anhonee in which Sanjeev kumar acted as Pagal and liked it. Her was brilliant in it and similarly in Khilona.

SRK in MNIK was likable in some scenes but irritating in most of the film specially when he was repeating the dialog e.g don’t die pl. dont die, dont die pl. and so on (when he was addressing to kajol in one of the scene) !!!!

Aamir in D3 was most annoying like uday bhai and Abhishek Bachchan. In fact more than these acts the repeated chases in D3 were more irritating and annoying which many of our friends are liking (may be false praise after looking at the collections of the movie, same like CE).

  16. Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

    Stupidest post ever on TQ

I am not not saying that because of D3 criticism of Aamir; but overall one can sense it …

There are way many stupid and annoying roles … but some ppl want to hog the limelight…

in this case its the writer..

    no issues.

    • Ipman 10 years ago

stupdiest comment ever on tq.and expected.mirchi lag gayi hai 😉

      • Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

aur stupid comments aanewale hai – dont give award to this comment 😛

        I fulfilled your expectation 🙂

        • Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

I will tell you what are the roles which I find most annoying – someday. Dont have time now.

Boman Irani laughing in Munnabhai MBBS is one which comes to my mind. And then Arshad Warsi in some Golmaal – makes jokes and himself starts laughing…

and priyanka chopra in all films.

  17. Bored 10 years ago

Bad timing Baba! If u had made this post after MNIK release then srk fans wud have found it stupid and Aamir fans wud have liked it very much … Thats how life is.

  18. sputnik 10 years ago

Trolling MPKDH and Hrithik’s acting in it.

    • Bored 10 years ago

      LOL!

Barjatya easily made one of the greatest ham-fest competition (Hrithik vs. Kareena vs. Everyone-Else) display ever made in Bollywood history.

    • shan 10 years ago

      LOL! Really funny!
