Jobs Official Synopsis
The extraordinary story of Steve Jobs, the original innovator and ground-breaking entrepreneur who let nothing stand in the way of greatness. The film tells the epic and turbulent story of Jobs as he blazed a trail that changed technology — and the world – forever.

The movie is more or less historically accurate. It does take some cinematic liberties though. The movie captures Steve Jobs life from his being a student to his launching the iPod. There is quite a bit of backstabbing in the movie. Steve Jobs back stabs some of his friends and he gets back stabbed and has to leave Apple but then he comes back and back stabs others.

The movie captures Steve Jobs passion or obsession with a product very well. The way he succeeds initially seems a bit fantasy like or too easy though. The movie should have focused more on his life when he had to leave Apple and shown the transformation that he went through but the movie completely skips it. The movie should have also carried on for a bit longer after his comeback to Apple.

Ashton Kutcher is excellent as Steve Jobs. He totally nails the part whether be his look, walk, mannerisms or his passion/obsession with a product or his temper or the cold manner in which he treats friends and family. Dermot Mulroney is good as Mike Markkula. Josh Gad is good as Steve Wozniak. Lukas Haas is good as Daniel Kottke. Matthew Modine is good as John Sculley. J.K. Simmons looked bad as Arthur Rock with a wig.

The movie is worth a watch mainly due to Ashton Kutcher’s performance. It could have been a great movie if the movie had focused a bit more on the transformation part and his comeback. Its still a decent movie.

    Skipped it because of bad reviews . Will give it a try . New jobs movie with Fassbander looks good .

      Yeah the reviews were bad and the IMDB rating is quite low too. But then critics usually dismiss anything that has Ashton Kutcher in it. Its a decent movie which could have been much more if it had more meat in the 2nd half.

      Yeah the new Jobs movie with Fassbander is looking good. It is getting some good reviews too. I will watch that one too as its screenplay is by Aaron Sorkin and direction by Danny Boyle.

    2001: A Space Odyssey
    An imposing black structure provides a connection between the past and the future in this enigmatic adaptation of a short story by revered sci-fi author Arthur C. Clarke. When Dr. Dave Bowman (Keir Dullea) and other astronauts are sent on a mysterious mission, their ship’s computer system, HAL, begins to display increasingly strange behavior, leading up to a tense showdown between man and machine that results in a mind-bending trek through space and time.

    Had tried to watch this back in 2000/2001 and stopped because I could not understand much with hardly any dialogues. Revisited the movie after 15 years and loved it.

    The movie has no dialogues for a lot of its screen time. There is just background music in those scenes. Its more a visual movie. And there are some scenes where the screen just goes blank with no sound or dialogues.

    The visual effects are excellent even by today’s standards and the movie had won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects back in 1969. The cinematography is excellent.

    I think Interstellar is inspired from this not just in plot but even some scenes.

    Now not everyone will like it though. Many will hate it and think its pretentious. The movie requires a lot of patience. Frankly I could not understand the ending and read a interview of Stanley Kubrick on IMDB which explained the ending and it made sense. There are as usual people over reading the ending and coming up with their stupid theories.

    Highly Recommended for only those with patience

    Re-watched Dulhe Raja after having first watched it back when it released. Its silly but a nice entertaining comedy. Some comedy scenes are very good especially the dialogues. The scene where Govinda beats up Mohnish Behl while praising him is the best scene. Govinda was excellent in his usual role. Kader Khan was good too. Johnny Lever was very good.

    jazbaa – Minus Aish overacting, this is a decent fare.
    SIB – Bakwaas
    Talvar – I am not sure why this movie is garnering so much positive review. Having followed the case this is a very agenda driven movie with cherry picking of facts. And what was the interrogation of that police office by Irfan Khan (Pant utaar ..)…and dueling argument scene at end was just to mock other side.
    The Wire – Have started watching. Looks good.

      I have not watched the movie Talvar yet so cannot comment on the movie.

      What are your views on the Arushi case? Do you think her parents actually committed the murder? I am not sure if the parents committed the murder or not.

      This is from the final judgement. I don’t think the parents would have been found guilty by a US court of law. I feel some of the the arguments used below are completely silly like 15 and 17.

      “I find myself completely in disagreement with
      the said contention of the learned counsel for the
      accused. Of course, there is no direct evidence in
      this case but as discussed above it is clear that the
      prosecution has placed a clinching wealth of
      circumstances from which the guilt of both the
      accused has been made out to the extent human
      instruments can apprehend. Recondite possibility of
      alternative hypothesis as put forward by the
      accused cannot be accepted. In
      Khem Karan Vs.
      State of U.P. AIR 1974 SC 1567 (3JJ)
      it has been
      held that neither mere possibilities nor remote
      possibilities nor mere doubts which are not
      reasonable can, without danger to the
      administration of justice, be the foundation of the
      acquittal of an accused person, if there is otherwise
      fairly credible testimony. From the evidence as
      tendered by the prosecution in form of oral and
      documentary evidence this court reaches to the
      irresistible and impeccable conclusion that only the
      accused persons are responsible for committing this
      ghastly crime as the following circumstances
      unerringly point towards the hypothesis of guilt of
      the accused-
      1)-
      That irrefragably in the fateful night of
      15/16.05.2008 both the accused were last seen
      with both the deceased in Flat No. L-32,
      Jalvayu Vihar at about 9.30 P.M. by Umesh
      Sharma, the driver of Dr. Rajesh Talwar;
      Page
      191
      Sessions Trial No. 477 of 2012
      2)-
      That in the morning of 16.05.2008 at about
      6.00 A.M. Ms. Aarushi was found murdered in
      her bed-room which was adjacent to the bed-
      room of the accused and there was only
      partition wall between two bed-rooms;
      3)-
      That the dead body of the servant Hemraj was
      found lying in the pool of blood on the terrace
      of flat no. L-32, Jalvayu Vihar on 17.05.2008
      and the door of terrace was found locked from
      inside;
      4)-
      That there is a close proximity between the
      point of time when both the accused and the
      deceased persons were last seen together
      alive and the deceased were murdered in the
      intervening night of 15/16.05.2008 and as such
      the time is so small that possibility of any other
      person(s) other than the accused being the
      authors of the crime becomes impossible;
      5)-
      That the door of Ms. Aarushi’s bed-room was
      fitted with automatic click-shut lock. P.W.-29
      Mahesh Kumar Mishra the then S.P. (City),
      N.O.I.D.A. has deposed that when he talked to
      Dr. Rajesh Talwar on 16.05.2008 in the
      morning, he had told him that in the preceding
      night at about 11.30 P.M. he had gone to sleep
      with the key after locking the door of Ms.
      Aarushi’s bed-room from outside. Both the
      accused have admitted that door of Ms.
      Aarushi’s bed-room was having automatic-click-
      shut lock like that of a hotel, which could not be
      opened from outside without key but could be
      opened from inside without key. No explanation
      has been offered by the accused as to how the
      Page
      192
      Sessions Trial No. 477 of 2012
      lock of Ms. Aarushi’s room was opened and by
      whom;
      6)-
      That the internet remained active in the night
      of the gory incident suggesting that at least
      one of the accused remained awake;
      7)-
      That there is nothing to show that an
      outsider(s) came inside the house in the said
      night after 9.30 P.M.;
      8)-
      That there was no disruption in the supply of
      electricity in that night;
      9)-
      That no person was seen loitering near the
      flats in suspicious circumstances in that night;
      10)-
      That there is no evidence of forcible entry of
      any outsider(s) in the flat in the night of
      occurrence;
      11)-
      That there is no evidence of any larcenous act
      in the flat;
      12)-
      That in the morning of 16th may 2008 when
      the maid came to flat for the purpose of
      cleaning and moping a false pretext was made
      by Dr. Nupur Talwar that door might have been
      locked from outside by the servant Hemraj
      although it was not locked or latched from
      outside;
      13)-
      That the house maid Bharti Mandal has no
      where stated that when she came inside the
      flat both the accused were found weeping;
      14)-
      That from the testimony of Bharti Mandal it is
      manifestly clear that when she reached the flat
      and talked to Dr. Nupur Talwar then at that
      Page
      193
      Sessions Trial No. 477 of 2012
      time she had not complained about the murder
      of her daughter and rather she told the maid
      deliberately that Hemraj might have gone to
      fetch milk from Mother dairy after locking the
      wooden door from outside. This lack of
      spontaneity is relevant under section 8 of the
      Evidence Act;
      15)-
      That the clothes of both the accused were not
      found soaked with the blood. It is highly
      unnatural that parents of deceased Ms. Aarushi
      will not cling to and hug her on seeing her
      murdered;
      16)-
      That no outsider(s) will dare to take Hemraj to
      the terrace in severely injured condition and
      thereafter search out a lock to be placed in the
      door of the terrace;
      17)-
      That it is not possible that an outsider(s) after
      committing the murders will muster courage to
      take Scotch whisky knowing that the parents of
      the deceased Ms. Aarushi are in the nearby
      room and his top priority will be to run away
      from the crime scene immediately;
      18)-
      That no outsider(s) will bother to take the body
      of Hemraj to the terrace. Moreover, a single
      person cannot take the body to the terrace;
      19)-
      That the door of the terrace was never locked
      prior to the occurrence but it was found locked
      in the morning of 16.05.2008 and the accused
      did not give the key of the lock to the police
      despite being asked to give the same;
      Page
      194
      Sessions Trial No. 477 of 2012
      20)-
      That the accused have taken plea in the
      statements under section 313 Cr.P.C. that
      about 8-10 days before the occurrence
      painting of cluster had started and the navvies
      used to take water from water tank placed on
      the terrace of the flat and then Hemraj had
      started locking the door of the terrace and the
      key of that lock remained with him. If it was so
      then it was not easily possible for an outsider
      to find out the key of the lock of terrace door;
      21)-
      That if an outsider(s) may have committed the
      crime in question after locking the door of
      terrace and had gone out of the flat then the
      outer most mesh door or middle mesh door
      must have been found latched from outside;
      22)-
      That the motive of commission of the crime
      has been established;
      23)-
      That it is not possible that after commission of
      the crime an outsider(s) will dress-up the crime
      scene;
      24)-
      That golf-club no. 5 was thrown in the loft after
      commission of the crime and the same was
      produced after many months by the accused
      Dr. Rajesh Talwar;
      25)-
      That pattern of head and neck injuries of both
      the accused persons are almost similar in
      nature and can be caused by golf-club and
      scalpel respectively;
      26)-
      That the accused Dr. Rajesh Talwar was a
      member of the Golf-Club, N.O.I.D.A. and golf-
      clubs were produced by him before the C.B.I.
      Page

      Sessions Trial No. 477 of 2012
      and scalpel is used by the dentists and both
      the accused are dentists by profession;
      The manner in which the murders were
      committed is not the handiwork of single accused
      and rather the murders were committed and
      evidence destroyed by both the accused in
      furtherance of their common intention which is
      apparent from the facts and circumstances as
      discussed above. ”

        Here is the full judgment:
        https://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/AarushiVerdict.pdf

        It is very descriptive and he has cited prior judgments in each of his points. Some of the point are argumentative but he has given reason for that; something similar to jury discussion.

        I firmly believe the murders are done by (Any two but always including Rajesh Talwar) :
        1. Rajesh talwar
        2. Nupur Talwar
        3. Compounder at clinic or neighbor servant.

        Reasons :
        1. There are just two many coincidences. Key left on door claimed by Nupur while switching on router or the landline ringer in Talwar bedrrom being off when the boyfriend called in between 12:00-1:00 or the maid not able to open the door.
        2. The whiskey bottle presence suggesting either the Talwars or servants.
        3. Router activity along with actual data transfer activity suggesting they were awake.
        4. If you leave one body in open what is the point in hiding the second body?
        5. The calls between Dinesh Talwar, KK Gautam, and doctor to omit rape or sexual intercourse word in post mortem.
        6. To pressurize Dohre (who did Aarushi’s post mortem) to talk to someone in AIIMS.
        7. Murder scene preping.
        8. Out of 25 pictures taken by new camera gifted to Aarushi, only 5 left.

        Additionally in Narco test of Nupur she said she hid both the phones which were recovered wiped clean. Of all the things just phones were missing. There are more logical points but I am not able to remember.

        The movie has conveniently omitted many of the evidences to raise doubt in audience mind.

          Thanks for the link. I read the entire judgement skipping through all the past judgments the judge uses to buttress his judgement.

          After reading it is clear that the Talwars were declared guilty just based on circumstantial evidence. In fact the judge himself admits – “Of course, there is no direct evidence in this case “.

          The judge prejudged them to be guilty and says they don’t have to be proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He uses all kinds of past judgments and books and quotes and what not to defend his silly judgement.

          The parents will obviously be the last ones to have been seen with the daughter since the murder happened that night in their home but the judge uses this as some kind of damning thing.

          “Presence of white discharge” which is very common is ridiculously used as evidence of sexual intercourse by the stupid judge. The judge says her private parts “were cleaned with water” but then later on goes to dismiss all statements by different cops which did not mention any wet bed sheet. He says since the bed sheet did not yield any DNA it is “clinching and reliable scientific evidence”.

          “Torn hymen” theory is used as a sign of sexual intercourse when it can be torn because of any physical activity.

          The judge says that Dr. Naresh Raj’s statement that Hemraj’s penis was swollen because “either he had been murdered in the midst of sexual intercourse or just before he was about to have sexual intercourse” is “preposterous” and “medical blasphemy”.

          Yet he uses the same penis swelling argument to declare them guilty with the following stupid statement – “Be that as it may, the fact remains that the penis of Hemraj was found swollen at the time of postmortem examination of his dead body.”

          He admits that there is no evidence to declare them guilty and yet he declares them guilty.

          Read this

          “If Mr. A.G.L. Kaul has mentioned in his closure report that no blood of Hemraj was found on the bed-sheet and pillow of Aarushi, there is no evidence to prove that Hemraj was murdered in the room of Aarushi, scientific tests on Dr. Rajesh Talwar and Dr. Nupur Talwar have not conclusively indicated their involvement in the crime, the exact sequence of events in the intervening night of 15/16.05.2008 to 6.00 A.M. in the morning is not clear, the offence has taken place in an enclosed flat, hence, no eye-witnesses are available and the circumstantial evidence collected during the course of investigation have critical and substantial gaps and there is absence of clear-cut motive and non recovery of any weapon of offence and their link either to the servants or to the parents”

          and then goes on to say

          “then on that ground no dent is created on the case of prosecution. The court is not bound by the said
          observations/findings of the investigating officer Mr. Kaul. The learned Special Judicial Magistrate (C.B.I.),
          Ghaziabad after disagreeing with the reasons for submitting closure report, summoned the accused persons to stand trial. That order has finally been affirmed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court and therefore, from the said findings of the investigating officer no benefit can be derived by the accused persons. ”

          They landed on the golf clubs as the attack weapon after a year based on the dates. The judge dismisses the defense’s claims that scalpels are not strong enough to cause the injuries that occurred as “more captious than substantial” and rejects them.

          The judge constantly gives benefit of doubt to everything the prosecution says. He accepts that Bharti Mandal the maid was tutored and yet uses her statements as facts. He defends the doctors not mentioning things in the post-mortem report.

          “It is regretted that both Dr. Dohre and Dr. Raj have not mentioned in the postmortem examination reports as to which injury was caused by which weapon. This was required to be specifically mentioned in the postmortem examination reports but alas they have not done so for the reasons best known to them. ”

          The judge says

          “The evidence of Dr. Sharma is not reliable because he has displayed in his website that “lawyers can have our services for their clients for better interpretation of scientific evidence against or for their clients……..” Thus it becomes clear that he gives report in favour of the person from whom he charges fees irrespective of
          the merit of the case.”

          Defense attorneys hired by the accused do the same. So everything that the defense says should be dismissed and all accused should be declared guilty?

          The judge says that since they are dentists they must have scalpel at home. Unless they were practicing dentistry from home why would there be a scalpel at home? Was the scalpel found at home? He just makes the assumption.

          “for oral surgery 15 no. blade is required by dentist and during the course of study use of this blade is
          taught. He has also admitted that if apart from gum this blade is used on other part of the body then
          that part will be cut. P.W.-30 Dr. Dinesh Kumar has stated in his evidence that for dissection scissors,
          forceps, needles and scalpel are used by B.D.S. students. It is to be noted that both the accused are
          dentists by profession and therefore, keeping scalpel at home and use thereof cannot be ruled out. ”

          The judge says “Under Section 106 Evidence Act it was incumbent upon the accused to establish as to how the body of Hemraj was taken to the roof by whom and who had locked the terrace door from inside but they have miserably failed to establish the same.”

          I thought its the duty of the prosecution to establish how the crime was committed not the accused.

          “The Key left on door claimed by Nupur while switching on router or the landline ringer in Talwar bedrrom being off when the boyfriend called in between 12:00-1:00 or the maid not able to open the door.”

          The link says Rajesh Talwar locked the room from outside and it does not mention leaving any key on the door. It does not mention anything about the boyfriend calling on the landline.

          “The whiskey bottle presence suggesting either the Talwars or servants.”

          Rajesh said it should have been in the cabinet. Even if he did drink that night how does it prove murder?

          “Router activity along with actual data transfer activity suggesting they were awake.”

          They say they turned on the router at 11 but they never say they turned it off. So it could have been anyone using it. Did they not check Talwar’s laptop and browsing history? They could have got the browsing history from the ISP. Can they not?

          “If you leave one body in open what is the point in hiding the second body?”

          Its obviously to blame Hemraj initially.

          “The calls between Dinesh Talwar, KK Gautam, and doctor to omit rape or sexual intercourse word in post mortem.”

          It could be just any relative trying to downplay any character assassination.

          “To pressurize Dohre (who did Aarushi’s post mortem) to talk to someone in AIIMS.”

          Dohre’s medical statements are ridiculous. So I am completely doubtful about his credibility.

          “Murder scene preping.”

          Its all very confusing with all the different contradicting statements. Some mention blood stains on the steps and some say there weren’t. Some say she was covered with a blanket. Some say her top was pulled up and pants pulled down below the waist.

          “Out of 25 pictures taken by new camera gifted to Aarushi, only 5 left.”

          She could have taken a lot of selfies and deleted herself. Or the parents may have found some nudes or sexually explicit pictures of her and deleted them.

          Because of the trauma they may have acted and done things which may have seemed suspicious to others.

          I am not saying they are completely innocent. But the investigation and the judgement screwed up a lot.

          “Additionally in Narco test of Nupur she said she hid both the phones which were recovered wiped clean. Of all the things just phones were missing. There are more logical points but I am not able to remember.”

          The final statement does not mention about that. But then narco test, lie detector tests are all not admissible in court. According to the other theory Krishna admitted murdering Arushi when he was administered the narco test.

          The CBI had filed a closure report that they did not have any evidence against the Talwars. The Talwars challenged that closure report. If they had in fact committed the murders why would they try to reopen the case. Wouldn’t they be happy that they got off?

          • hithere 8 years ago

            Talwars fought the closure because in spite of closing, the CBI said their main suspect were Talwars. They were closing the case because everything was circumstantial.

            With Krishna and other two , they were given third degree; That is why Krishna’s 3 narco test had three different versions. Most of it was leading (in questioning). When Krishna was arrested other two didn’t run away.

            Pictures –
            I don’t think in 2008, we were used of selfies. And moreoever it was bigger camera.

            Murder scene was dressed up because there was blood on wall but not on bagpack or toys lying near. The blood trajectory should have put some blood marks. The bedsheet was wet under private part. It was not urine or other bodily fluid.

            If you read the judgment there is charged (some 45 kb) download activity around 3 o’clock by ISP.

            The Key :

            If key was left on door then how come in morning Rajesh was able to open the door after seeing the WHiskey bottle on table.

            The Talwars didn’t hear anything through out night but heard maid bell?

            Agree that Police didn’t do the right investigation on first day otherwise the case could have been solved on first day evidence gathering.

            ps1 – There are some interesting theories:

            “Talwars fought the closure because in spite of closing, the CBI said their main suspect were Talwars. They were closing the case because everything was circumstantial.”

            Yes the CBI said they were the main suspects but they also said they did not have any direct evidence to go after them.

            If they were the murderers they would have just kept quiet since they got away. Why would they try to clear their name as suspects and open themselves up to getting arrested and prosecuted?

            They challenged the closure report and went to court to request a re-investigation and the magistrate threw out their petition and ordered a trial.

            “With Krishna and other two , they were given third degree; That is why Krishna’s 3 narco test had three different versions. Most of it was leading (in questioning). When Krishna was arrested other two didn’t run away.”

            I read the results of the narco analysis here and yeah the different versions are all confusing and contradicting each other. In each person’s version some one else is the murderer but they all admit being there on the night of the murder. They even admit raping her but then the doctors did not say she was raped. They claim she was unconscious while they raped her which may explain no signs of rape. There is a possibility that the Talvars tried to hide the evidence of rape if we take the wet sheet theory seriously.

            “I don’t think in 2008, we were used of selfies. And moreoever it was bigger camera.”

            Yeah I forgot that selfies had not started back then but its still a digital camera and she or the Talwars may have deleted pictures from the camera.

            “Murder scene was dressed up because there was blood on wall but not on bagpack or toys lying near. The blood trajectory should have put some blood marks. The bedsheet was wet under private part. It was not urine or other bodily fluid.”

            The prosecution’s theory was that Rajesh Talwar found his daughter and Hemraj in a compromising position and that he attacked them and killed them. But then how come Hemraj’s blood was not there on the wall or anywhere else in the room. How can they wipe all of Hemraj’s blood from the room while leaving Arushi’s blood? If its a spontaneous honor killing then Hemraj’s blood and DNA should have been in the room. This itself proves that honor killing theory is wrong.

            The wet bed sheet part was not mentioned by any of the cops who investigated the dead body. The judge made that judgement just based on looking at the pictures that they are some stains and that the expert said there was no DNA/sperm of Hemraj.

            “If you read the judgment there is charged (some 45 kb) download activity around 3 o’clock by ISP.”

            If he browsed or emailed somebody they could have got that information from his laptop or ISP. Many have argued that there is some activity even when nobody is using internet if the router is on. It says that “the same activity was seen from 6.00 A.M. to 1.00 P.M. on 16.05.2008, although computers were shut down.”

            “The Key :

            If key was left on door then how come in morning Rajesh was able to open the door after seeing the WHiskey bottle on table.”

            hmm that’s a good point but they could have had multiple keys to that door which is common. In that whole judgement that point about key being left in the door is not there at all.

            Saeed Naqvi is really bad with the interviewing. Its like he is trying so hard to get some incriminating comment from them.

            “The Talwars didn’t hear anything through out night but heard maid bell?”

            I thought they did a sound test and confirmed that one couldn’t hear anything from Arushi’s room if the AC was turned on. The judgement mentions wooden partition wall but they insist its a brick wall with wooden panel. They could have easily ascertained whether its brick or wooden partition but they don’t seem to have done anything about that. It depends on whether the bell was in their room or hall or if they had already woken up in the morning.

            “Agree that Police didn’t do the right investigation on first day otherwise the case could have been solved on first day evidence gathering.”

            Yeah they did not even close the area. One of the witnesses who is taken seriously by the court claims that he came 28 km from his home to do morning walk in that area which sounds very suspicious.

            “ps1 – There are some interesting theories:

            I think the first team pre judged that servants did it, second team judged that Talwars did it. Personally when I put real evidence then Talwars fit the bill.

            Reagrding Router being power up and down after discovery of body could be attributed to multiple people in house. Anybody can power on and off thinking they are switching on light or fan. The download activity is different than switching on/off of router. ISP said they don’t collect data regarding what sites were browsed.

            hmm spoon test? Why would they not test with screams and loud objects? Arun Kumar is defending saying that the test was done scientifically.

            “I think the first team pre judged that servants did it, second team judged that Talwars did it.”

            That may well be true. But there seems to be a lot of small town mentality vs liberal educated type and class thing at play. There were all sorts of soap operaish theories of extra marital affair, wife swapping and so on. Nupur’s relative mentions they asked silly questions about the girl’s sleepover. The judge makes some comment about drinking whisky too.

            “Personally when I put real evidence then Talwars fit the bill.”

            Talwars may have done it but there is no direct evidence to prosecute them so this judgement is overreaching. The judge prejudged them and everything that was in their favor is dismissed whereas everything that is against them is accepted even when its obvious that it has holes. Its a mockery of justice. Celebs or politicians will never be subjected to this kind of guilty until they prove their innocence logic.

            There is no way that they can selectively wipe off Hemraj’s DNA and blood from the room. So the theory of spontaneous honor killing does not apply. So Hemraj must have either been killed in his room on the terrace. They have not even been able to come up with a sound motive for the killing.

            The judge and one of the CBI team dismissed that the servants will not drink when master is at home but they think that the servant will have sex with the 13 year old when the master is at home in the room next door. Arushi was a 13 year old girl so even if she was having consensual sex with Hemraj it would still count as statutory rape. If the parents found out about that their killing Hemraj could be explained but why would they kill their 13 year old daughter?

            “Reagrding Router being power up and down after discovery of body could be attributed to multiple people in house. Anybody can power on and off thinking they are switching on light or fan. The download activity is different than switching on/off of router. ISP said they don’t collect data regarding what sites were browsed.”

            It mentions same activity so I am assuming same Kilobytes of data was downloaded. We don’t know if the wifi was secure or not coz some people in India do not secure their wifi connections.

            There is more to this than what is known. With the Police screwing up the investigation on the first day and the two different CBI teams investigations we will never know the truth.

          I said in my comment above that the “The judge prejudged them to be guilty” and turns out that’s what happened.

          “As Judge Shyam Lal and his son sat down to write the judgement, Mir (the Talwars’ lawyer Tanveer Ahmed Mir) had not even begun.”

          The Judge admits that he remembered the day the CBI lied about Hemraj’s pillowcase being found in Aarushi’s room but yet in his verdict he uses that to convict them.

          “I asked Shyam Lal whether he remembered the day in court when the CBI had to admit they had lied about Hemraj’s pillowcase being found in Aarushi’s room.

          ‘Yes, yes . . .’

          ‘But in the judgement you returned a finding that the pillow cover was recovered from Aarushi’s room . . .’

          Shyam Lal stiffened up slightly: ‘Dekhiye, I cannot remember . . . har ek chhoti cheez aise . . .’ (every small thing). ‘But it was a very major thing,’ I went on.

          ‘Nahin, but what is the point of some controversy? I cannot remember . . . iss time pe . . .’

          ‘Sir, I find it very hard to believe that . . .’

          ‘I cannot remember, I will not give you some hypothetical answer . . Dekhiye, let bygones be bygones . . .'”

            I don’t think it says anywhere that Hemraj blood was found on Aarushi’s pillow. If that was the case then that would have proved the case.
            Only thing that got muddled was Hemraj blood on one of the pillow cases; Initially it was wrongly marked to be found in Krishna’s room But later it was changed to be recovered from Hemraj’s room.

            “Only thing that got muddled was Hemraj blood on one of the pillow cases; Initially it was wrongly marked to be found in Krishna’s room But later it was changed to be recovered from Hemraj’s room.”

            “I don’t think it says anywhere that Hemraj blood was found on Aarushi’s pillow. If that was the case then that would have proved the case.”

            Yes Hemraj blood was not found on Aarushi’s pillow and nobody said that.

            Initially the CBI said that Hemraj’s blood stained pillowcase was found in Krishna’s room and the Talwars tried to use it in their defense. But then CBI said it was a typo and that it was found in Arushi’s room. But when it was brought in court it had the tag saying it was found in Hemraj’s room.

            The judge still wrongly used it as found in Arushi’s room to declare them guilty.

            “it becomes abundantly clear that Hemraj’s DNA has been found on the pillow with cover which was recovered from the room of Ms. Aarushi as per letter dated 04.06.2008 Exhibit-kha-45 of S.P. (C.B.I.). “

            I had read news about the narco test coming out on youtube and Arun Kumar saying it is not original video on some website a few days back but I could not find the link to the video on youtube.

            But I found the video now and here it is. I thought the CBI officials were present during the narco test but apparently they weren’t and they don’t even have the full video. The doctor interviewing can’t even speak proper Hindi and she is asking questions with her wrong grammar specially wrong grammatical gender. At around 16 minutes he mentions some Rohit Chaddha and then at 18:25 pass hone ke liye confusion create karna tha. At around 29 minutes he says he destroyed Hemraj’s phone and then he talks about his girlfriend. Someone is whispering questions in the doctor’e ear. This whole narco test is a joke. No wonder it is not admissible in court.

            One thing is sure though. The whole theory of Rajesh Talwar and Anita Durrani’s affair and Arushi and Hemraj being killed because they found out about their affair is something he started.

            I haven’t seen whole video; Does he suggest that the CBI Director (Arun Kumar) asked him to take the blame? Because edited one doesn’t not have that part. It will add to complicity of Arun Kumar.

          • Author
            sputnik 8 years ago

            I haven’t seen whole video either. I tried to watch the whole video but it was unbearable for me to watch with the bad Hindi accent and Krishna’s meandering and contradicting answers. I skimmed through it. I did not hear the part where he says Arun Kumar told him to take the blame. I don’t think one can be sure of anything that he says in this video.

          • hithere 8 years ago

            That is true regarding veracity but why was it edited?
            Somebody was trying to change the direction of investigation?

          • Author
            sputnik 8 years ago

            “why was it edited?”

            Not sure why it was edited.

            May be the doctor’s office gave an edited video with only the relevant questions because the video is full of nonsensical questions and Krishna dozing off and mumbling incoherently. For some questions he seems awake wide and answers clearly. He even jokes asking the doctor to kill him with the scalpel. But when it comes to questions about the murder he is sleepy and incoherent.

            May be someone from CBI itself edited the video for the very same reasons or may be someone from CBI/Doctor’s office wanted to change the direction of investigation as you say.

            Not sure why these videos have been leaked now. Because these videos don’t conclusively prove anything.

            But I think the investigators in this case already made up their mind whether it is the Police or the CBI Teams. They were just cherry picking whatever evidence that supported their opinion while ignoring anything that contradicted their opinion.

      Finally watched Talvar and completely agree with you that “this is a very agenda driven movie” and that the “dueling argument scene at end was just to mock other side.”

      Yeah that Pant utaar scene was horrible. I doubt any CBI official will behave that way with a Police official when the police official was not being investigated for any wrong doing.

      As agenda driven as it is its still an engrossing thriller though some of it is very ham handed. The Tabu angle was totally unnecessary.

      Wish it had stayed neutral and just presented all the different versions in full seriousness so that audiences could have made up their own mind.

      As I think we both agreed and as cr7 said too the case was messed up by police in the very beginning.

      Irfan Khan was very good as usual. Neeraj Kabi and Konkona Sen, Gajraj Rao, Prakash Belawadi were good too. The actors chosen for the roles of Kanhaiya and Khempal were good and well chosen based on their looks.

    Someone Like You
    After being jilted by her boyfriend, a talkshow talent scout writes a sexist column accusing all men of being cheaters, which gains her national fame.

    Its a romantic comedy. Its slow paced but decent. It is somewhat like the TV series Sex and the City with the lead writing a column. In the end the movie becomes a bit clumsy.

    Ashley Judd was good and looked pretty. Did not recognize Hugh Jackman initially because I had never seen him in a role like this. He looked very young and he acted very well. Greg Kinnear was good too.

    Me and Earl and the Dying Girl
    An awkward high-school senior (Thomas Mann) and a gravely ill classmate (Olivia Cooke) surprise themselves by becoming inseparable friends.

    Excellent movie. Loved it. Its like 500 Days meets The Fault in Our Stars but its better than The Fault in Our Stars.

    Despite the movie being about a terminally ill girl its funny for a major part of the movie. It becomes serious only in the last half hour or so but is very profound. I wasn’t completely satisfied with the ending though and it could have been better.

    Thomas Mann was excellent as Greg, the self-loathing guy who is at first forced to spend time with the dying girl but who gradually develops a friendship with her. Olivia Cooke was excellent as Rachel and she looked cute early on. Her going bald later on due to chemotherapy adds to the movie. Ronald Cyler II was excellent as Greg’s friend/co-worker Earl. The rest of the cast was good too.

    Highly Recommended

      There is no single editing here “hithere ” or “sputnik” .

      Now coming to other points. …

      As I mentioned, by “hithere” – “I skimmed through it. I did not hear the part where he says Arun Kumar told him to take the blame” – Yes in the whole video there is no mention of it.

      At 38:00 – he says he took Hemraj to to the terrace.

      At 44 or round about he says he says “Kukri” how it was used to kill hemraj and the girl.

      A person will high level of sedatives daily in his life will doze on and off ….he is behaving just like that.

      Thanks Ritz.

      The Narco test was conducted in Bangalore so the doctor understandably has a Southern accent but the problem was that he was misunderstanding her questions due to her accent and she had trouble understanding what he was saying too. She wastes so much time asking whether it is Khukhri or something else. There were couple of instances where she asked him something and because of her accent Krishna misunderstood the question and was saying something else.

      I think they would have had better success with their questioning if they had used a doctor who is fluent in Hindi/Nepali.

    Boogie Nights
    In the San Fernando Valley in 1977, teenage busboy Eddie Adams (Mark Wahlberg) gets discovered by porn director Jack Horner (Burt Reynolds), who transforms him into adult-film sensation Dirk Diggler. Brought into a supportive circle of friends, including fellow actors Amber Waves (Julianne Moore), Rollergirl (Heather Graham) and Reed Rothchild (John C. Reilly), Dirk fulfills all his ambitions, but a toxic combination of drugs and egotism threatens to take him back down.

    Liked it. Very good movie. Paul Thomas Anderson’s direction was very good. Its loosely based on the porn stars of the 70s. Eddie’s character is based on the life of porn star John Holmes and the movie has a somewhat positive ending with him getting a second chance. But in real life John Holmes died of AIDS which the movie totally avoids.

    Mark Wahlberg was very good as Eddie. Julianne Moore was good too as the porn star who has lost custody of her child. Burt Reynolds was good as the director. Don Cheadle, John C. Reilly, William H. Macy and Heather Graham were all very good.

    A new employee at a mental hospital becomes attracted to one of his colleagues, but he is unaware of a recent, horrifying change in staff.

    The movie is based on the short story “The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether” by Edgar Allan Poe. The basic premise was good. It did remind of Shutter Island with Ben Kingsley playing a similar role but movie wise Shutter Island was excellent and this was bad. One can easily guess the first twist and the final twist was ridiculous.

    Jim Sturgess was ok but the movie probably needed a better star or actor in that role. Kate Beckinsale looked good in some scenes but her acting was bad. Michael Caine was usual. Ben Kingsley was good.

    Wall Street
    A young and impatient stockbroker is willing to do anything to get to the top, including trading on illegal inside information taken through a ruthless and greedy corporate raider who takes the youth under his wing.

    Excellent movie. Loved it. This is how a Wall Street movie should be. The Wolf of Wall Street was nothing compared to this movie. Oliver Stone’s direction was very good.

    Michael Douglas was excellent as Gordon Gekko and he deservedly won the Oscar for Best Actor. Charlie Sheen was good. Daryl Hannah was bad acting wise and she did not look pretty either. Martin Sheen who is Charlie Sheen’s father in real life too was excellent as his father.

    Talvar- As a thriller it is a very good movie .But far from a neutral movie . It’s agenda driven to show the parents as innocent . Though I won’t blame the makers . Whatever I read about the case earlier was also agenda driven to prove the parents guilty .Its good to see another perspective . One thing that is pretty clear that its not a open and shut case . A very complicated case which was messed up by police in the very beginning . I don’t know what is the current status of the case but I really hope justice is served.

    Chef
    After a controlling owner (Dustin Hoffman) pushes him too far, chef Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) quits his position at a prestigious Los Angeles restaurant. As he tries to figure out what his next step should be, he finds himself in Miami. Carl joins forces with his ex-wife (Sofía Vergara), best friend (John Leguizamo) and son (Emjay Anthony) to launch a food-truck business, and the venture provides a chance to reignite his passion for cooking — as well as his zest for life and love.

    Its a feel good family movie. It started off in a very interesting manner but once the chef lost his job and started the food truck business the movie kind of lost the plot. Starting and managing the food truck business is all shown as if it’s child’s play. The coworker leaving his job to join the chef’s food truck business seemed pretty unrealistic. And then there is really no climax.

    Jon Favreau was good as the chef passionate about cooking. He is the writer/director of the movie too. Dustin Hoffman was good in the small part that he had. Sofía Vergara was good and looked pretty. Emjay Anthony was good as the son who is good with social networking. John Leguizamo was good as the coworker. Scarlett Johansson was good in a small part as chef’s girlfriend.

    Finished The Wire. Very good drama. The first 3 seasons are very good. Fourth is good but it is diversion from theme. Fifth is also good but no where good like first 3.

    Terms of Endearment
    Widow Aurora Greenway (Shirley MacLaine) and her daughter, Emma (Debra Winger), have a strong bond, but Emma marries teacher Flap Horton (Jeff Daniels) against her mother’s wishes. When the marriage grows sour due to Flap’s cheating, Emma eventually splits from him, returning to her mother, who is involved with a former astronaut (Jack Nicholson). Soon, Emma learns that she has terminal cancer. In the hospital, supported by Aurora, she tries to make peace with Flap and her children.

    The movie was nominated for 11 Oscars and won five which included Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (Shirley MacLaine), Best Supporting Actor (Jack Nicholson) and Best Adapted Screenplay.

    Had tried to watch this a few years back but stopped after a few scenes. Watched it this time but skipped bits of it as it could not hold my attention.

    Its a tearjerker and basically a movie for women. A couple of emotional scenes involving the mother (Emma) and kids are good but that’s about it. Its like a endless saga about this woman and her mother’s life. Don’t understand what was so great about the movie that it won and was nominated for so many Oscars.

    Shirley MacLaine was good as Aurora. Debra Winger was good too. Jeff Daniels was good as the husband and I think he deserved a nomination way more than Jack Nicholson. Jack Nicholson was usual in a role that did not have much to do. Don’t know why he won an Oscar for this let alone getting nominated.

    The Guest
    A soldier introduces himself to the Peterson family, claiming to be a friend of their son who died in action. After the young man is welcomed into their home, a series of accidental deaths seem to be connected to his presence.

    Its a thriller which is engrossing and ridiculous in parts. Because of the unknown cast and the plot it felt more like a B grade thriller. It started off ok but it lost the plot gradually. The climax with it being set in that Halloween school set was completely ridiculous.

    Don’t know what to make of Dan Stevens performance. At times he was good but sometimes it felt too wannabe with his “oh I am so cool” look and smile. The rest of the cast was ok.

    xXx
    An extreme sports athlete, Xander Cage, is recruited by the government on a special mission.

    Stupid ridiculous action movie filled with over the top action scenes. It hardly had any plot and it dragged so much that I did not even complete it.

    Did not like Vin Diesel at all. He seemed so fake with all his macho stuff. It was like watching a foreign Sunny Deol. Asia Argento was ok.

    P.S. I read that Deepika Padukone is going to star in a sequel of this movie. Don’t understand why she agreed to that coz its such a stupid movie. I doubt she will have much to do in that.

    Tesla: Master of Lightning
    Biography of electrical inventor and visionary genius Nikola Tesla. Nikola Tesla invented or developed many of the electrical technologies which form the basis of modern life, including: alternating-current (AC) power transmission and electric motors; high-frequency (HF) communications, the basis for radio and television; neon lighting; remote radio-control; and X-rays. But his visionary genius and technical skill was countered by his lack of business acumen and eccentric personality. After dying penniless in 1943, his “missing papers” regarding the construction of a ‘death ray’ became the focus of international intrigue. His research on particle beam weapons led to several American and Soviet military research programs, including the Strategic Defense Initiative, known as SDI or “Star Wars”.

    Its a interesting documentary on Nikola Tesla. Worth a watch.

    The Forgotten
    In “The Forgotten,” Julianne Moore stars as Telly Paretta, a grieving mother struggling to cope with the loss of her 8-year-old son. She is stunned when her psychiatrist (Gary Sinise) reveals that she has created eight years of memories about a son she never had. But when she meets a man (Dominic West) who has had a similar experience, Telly embarks on a search to prove her son’s existence, and her sanity.

    The premise itself was a bit of a stretch but I thought that it could be a interesting thriller. It started off ok but then it gradually turned completely ridiculous with some alien stuff and people getting sucked into air.

    Julianne Moore was good as the mother searching for the child. Dominic West was good too. Gary Sinise was ok.

    Sicario
    After rising through the ranks of her male-dominated profession, idealistic FBI agent Kate Macer (Emily Blunt) receives a top assignment. Recruited by mysterious government official Matt Graver (Josh Brolin), Kate joins a task force for the escalating war against drugs. Led by the intense and shadowy Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro), the team travels back-and-forth across the U.S.-Mexican border, using one cartel boss (Bernardo Saracino) to flush out a bigger one (Julio Cesar Cedillo).

    Very good movie. The story is a bit complex and difficult to follow at first but its a very good thriller on the war on drugs. I don’t think they should have had a female lead for this movie as it reinforces the stereotypes that women are physically weak, scared and easily manipulated. She is a FBI agent but she is always shown as scared and weak. She almost gets choked to death in one scene and is dominated by Alejandro in a couple of scenes and gets thrashed by Matt in another scene.

    Emily Blunt was good as Kate though her character is very badly written. Benicio del Toro was excellent as Alejandro. Josh Brolin was good. The rest of the performances are good.

    Spotlight
    In 2001, editor Marty Baron of The Boston Globe assigns a team of journalists to investigate allegations against John Geoghan, an unfrocked priest accused of molesting more than 80 boys. Led by editor Walter “Robby” Robinson, reporters Michael Rezendes (Mark Ruffalo), Matt Carroll and Sacha Pfeiffer interview victims and try to unseal sensitive documents. The reporters make it their mission to provide proof of a cover-up of sexual abuse within the Roman Catholic Church.

    Excellent movie. One of the best movies of the year and probably the best. I think this will get a bunch of Oscar nominations and will probably win the Oscar for Best Picture. Its a story of great investigative journalism. Its a bit long but its very engrossing and from what I read it stays true to the real story.

    Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Brian d’Arcy James, Liev Schreiber, John Slattery and Stanley Tucci are all excellent. I think Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo and Rachel McAdams are going to get nominated for Oscars. Mark Ruffalo will most probably win the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. He is absolutely brilliant in one scene.

    Steve Jobs
    With public anticipation running high, Apple Inc. co-founders Steve Jobs (Michael Fassbender) and Steve “Woz” Wozniak get ready to unveil the first Macintosh in 1984. Jobs must also deal with personal issues related to ex-girlfriend Chrisann Brennan and their young daughter Lisa. Eventually fired, Jobs launches NeXT Inc. and prepares to release a new computer model in 1988. Ten years later, Jobs is back at Apple Inc. and about to revolutionize the industry once again with the iMac.

    Crap movie. Hated it. The whole movie is set backstage just before three major launches. Its like the movie Birdman but about Steve Jobs. Characters suddenly show up before these launches and there is some argument or fight. And there are flashbacks during those scenes. The Jobs movie starring Ashton Kutcher is a way better movie than this.

    Michael Fassbender was good acting wise as well as looks wise as Steve Jobs in the later part of the movie. But he did not look like Jobs at all during the younger part and was acting like he always does. I think Ashton Kutcher was the better Steve Jobs overall. Kate Winslet was annoying playing some nanny kind of role. Seth Rogen was ok as Steve Wozniak. Jeff Daniels looked so bad and was also bad.

    The Martian
    When astronauts blast off from the planet Mars, they leave behind Mark Watney (Matt Damon), presumed dead after a fierce storm. With only a meager amount of supplies, the stranded visitor must utilize his wits and spirit to find a way to survive on the hostile planet. Meanwhile, back on Earth, members of NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring him home, while his crew mates hatch their own plan for a daring rescue mission.

    Its a watchable movie – ok at best. Its the usual cliched Hollywood masala science fiction movie complete with silly cheering scenes. As @password said “this could be an extension of Interstellar where they can justify how mat damon survives till then until interstellar crew arrives”. The final scenes reminded of the movie Gravity.

    You always know that Matt’s character is going to make it back fine so the things that go wrong don’t create any real tension. The other astronauts characters and all the NASA characters felt so fake and phony.

    Matt Damon was ok. He used a body double for the scenes where he is shown as having lost weight. Jeff Daniels was good. Jessica Chastain, Michael Peña, Kate Mara, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kristen Wiig were ok in badly written characters.

    Blackfish
    The story of Tilikum, a captive killer whale that has taken the lives of several people, underscores problems within the sea-park industry, man’s relationship to nature, and how little has been learned about these highly intelligent mammals.

    Its a interesting documentary obviously with an agenda. It does highlight how the killer whales are held in captivity and the danger that trainers face while working with these killer whales. Some of the comments in it are quite silly and are the usual animal activist type arguments. Its definitely anti Sea World and it did hurt Sea World’s business.

    Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room
    This documentary explores the fall of the Enron Corporation, arguably the most shocking example of modern corporate corruption. The company is linked with several illegal schemes, including instigating the California energy crisis as a way to drive up utility prices at the expense of the average American. In a hyper-competitive environment, Enron traders resort to all kinds of underhanded dealings in order to make money at any cost and keep their high-paying jobs.

    Excellent documentary on the Enron scandal. It was nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature in 2006. It shows how the Enron guys gamed the system.
