krrish31 Official Synopsis
Krishna is living a happily married life with Priya, while Rohit is using his scientific brilliance to benefit society. And Krrish is everyone’s favorite superhero saviour. Unknown to them, a dark force is growing in another part of the world. Kaal, an evil genius, is selfishly misusing his powers to spread fear, death and destruction. And he is being assisted by an army of very dangerous beings, which he has created himself. Not long after Kaal’s plans are put into action, both Rohit and Krrish find themselves faced with a crisis of epic proportions, which only they can resolve, together. But when they finally cross paths with Kaal and his army, neither of them is prepared for what lies ahead. Kaal not only brings the world to the brink of disaster, he also puts the strength and love of Krishna and his family to the test. And Krrish has to somehow find the power within to face an unbeatable foe. The greatest battle between good and evil begins….

There is a nicely done recap of the first two parts at the beginning of the movie for those who did not watch them. Some scenes are very good like the one where the guy goes to meet the Doctor to tell about Kaal pharmaceuticals or Kaal’s scene with his father or the first fight scene between Krrish and Kaal.

Hrithik rescuing the plane has some cheesy scenes of the passengers and the pilots. The kid telling about how he ended up dangling from the wires is corny. The frogman stealing ice creams scene is plain bad. There is a build up of how the different mutants were created but their characters are not given much importance except for Kangana and the frog man’s characters.

Songs are bad and they should have been avoided. Background music borrows heavily from The Dark Knight Rises and may be other Hollywood movies. Vfx range from good in some scenes to tacky in some.

Hrithik is irritating as Rohit with his whiny voice and his long hair looks odd while playing Krishna. He is very good as the superhero Krrish. Priyanka is ok. Kangana whose character is based on Mystique from X-Men is good in some scenes and bad in some with her catwalking and bad expressions. She also has some really bad dialogues with Vivek which seem to be less of conversation and more of trying to explain to the audience. Vivek Oberoi is very good right until the climax as Kaal a character based on Magneto from X-Men. His iron suit at the end should have been better instead of the one joined from scrap metal.

The movie is Rakesh Roshan’s 80’s cinema meets Hollywood superhero movies specially X-Men. While the main plot or story is interesting Rakesh Roshan keeps adding cheesy scenes/dialogues to cater to the masses. The movie is not great but not completely horrible either. Despite all the flaws its surprisingly watchable.

very good review. agree with everything. i think it could have been tighter minus the family scenes and corny dialgoues , “mere aashirwad mein tum sab ” are cringeworthy dialgues , added to please small centres. what i enjoyed was the outings of the mutants. they brought new situations for a bw film. i wanted more scenes of afghan actor (ant) and rhino

      Thanks Baba.

Yeah some of the dialogues were corny like “Ek baap ke ansoon mein kitni taaqat…” and so on.

Instead of the family scenes and songs there should have been more action – may be one on one fight scenes of Krrish with each mutant.

Vivek was very subtle as the cool villain right until the climax where he became a regular villain. This was unlike his other negative roles in SAL or Company.

  2. Baba 10 years ago

btw i dont know why srk didnt do the villian role in krrish, it had acting scope and required subtle evilness, something which comes naturally to srk. and he had as much footage as krrish himself

    • mate 10 years ago

“btw i dont know why srk didnt do the villian role in krrish”
LoL, He rejected movies like Lagaan, Munnabhai and 3I because of his ego, and you’re talking about equal footage in a franchise associated with a much low ranked star than him.
Anyway I agree with your comment in general, when getting right scripts he should keep his ego aside, especially when it is certain that role will get acclaim. He should learn a lesson from Aamir who literally beg roles when good scripts are being approached (Not to him but to any of his rivals).

      • Baba 10 years ago

well, when krrish was being shot it was 2012 , the period of jthj .srk was probably lower than ajay devgan as well in rankings 😉

        • shan 10 years ago

Throughout the movie, I was thinking SRK could have brought so much more to the character of Kaal, had he accepted this role. This was a perfect role for him to try something different.

Good Review Sputnik. I was disappointed with the promos that released after the trailer showing him as playing the characters of superman from man of steel (with pathetic graphics) and sometimes shaktiman. Seems like a good watch from your review and will go for it today or tomorrow. I know there is budget constraint in bollywood but they can always suffice that with more emotional touch rather than going for too much of CGI or VFX.

You will like it if you go knowing that its a Rakesh Roshan movie and that there will be some cheesy scenes.

    TV SERIES

Sherlock Holmes Series 1 and 2 (2010) – It is a brilliant series guys and I would highly recommend this to everyone. Benedict Cumberbatch is exceptionally brilliant as Sherlock Holmes that even Robert Downey of Sherlock movie looks bad. His part in “Star Trek into the darkness” was the only interesting thing that I liked and I definitely want to see more of him in movies. So the “Fifth Estate” on Julian Assange is the next on my radar. Each series has 3 episodes and each episode solves one major case which is not much time consuming to those who watch movies but avoid tv series. The villain’s role of Moriarty by Andrew Scott is also excellent. I am definitely looking forward to its third installment along with Game of Thrones season 4. His performance is better than Walter & Jesse of Breaking Bad and Michael Scofield of Prison Break. Sherlock’s assessment and analysis along with his quick detailed observation may seem to be implausible for a common man but not for a Genius like him and if you watch it carefully you will concur with his assessments and analysis as well. Highly Recommended!!!

    HINDI MOVIES

Satyagraha (2013) – Long and boring film that has nothing to show off. The plot was wafer thin to be even considered as a serious film with a message. I didn’t like anything from the movie, nothing at all, not even performances and it should have named as Satyanaash.

Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara! (2013) – Another horrible movie that had nothing to be compared with its prequel. Akshay looked good in appearance but all his diktats, show offs, mannerism and dialogues are pale compared to Ajay’s in the prequel. Sonakshi is repeating her acting and character in all her movies and Irfan was a total miscast. Except production values and the song “yeh tune kya kiya” are the only good things about the movie.

Shuddh Desi Romance (2013)– I thought it is better to avoid the movie due to negative remarks from our members but this movie turned out quite the opposite. I actually enjoyed the movie. It is a comedy movie at the back drop of live in relationship but if you take it seriously then it is definitely a downer as it is nowhere to realism but in a humorous way it is a complete entertainment. I liked the acting of all three but more importantly chemistry between the pairs worked really well. Sushant is here to stay and might be the next superstar; with right film he can reach that stardom.

    HOLLYWOOD MOVIES

Serenity (2005) – “The crew of the ship Serenity tries to evade an assassin sent to recapture one of their members who is telepathic – IMDB”. Movie is definitely better than Star Trek series and later I realized that it is made with the same star cast of TV series “Firefly” which is also rated very high on List of TV series.

The Italian Job (2003)– Watched it second time and had almost forgotten but this time I was totally focused on Jason more than Mark Wahlberg. I think Mark is more suited to play the negative character than a protagonist. Charlize Theron looks gorgeous and it is almost the same as players in production value except the first heist where it has excellent locales and brilliantly executed chase.

    JAPANESE MOVIES

The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi (2003) – What a stylish Samurai film from 80’s that still looks as classy and stylish even today. A blind swordsman wandering off the streets during the times of local gang wars in the village without fear and untouched take a shelter in one of her acquaintance. Another skilled samurai offers to become one of the bodyguards of the local head to look after his wife suffering from illness. Those times locals had to pay taxes for their safety to the head of their local village and refusing would cost their lives. This blind swordsman single handedly destroys their businesses when interfered and cheated before he is faceoff the bodyguard, another expert Samurai. Film has good pace and interesting plot that keeps you engrossed. One of the better Samurai films I have watched. Recommended!!!

Glad You liked Sherlock .Agree with whatever u said .Its an awesome series .Looking forward to season 3. I don’t know when was the last time i waited for something so eagerly . Btw are u watching homeland season 3 ? I don’t feel like watching it after the pathetic season 2.if u r watching , Let me know if it is good .

      • FS 10 years ago

Homeland 3 is pathetic… Its no more CIA, FBI or terrorist stuff now but more about the personal life of CIA agent and the ‘supposed” terrorist. Stopped watching after 3 episodes.

Dexter – Started first season one and I was all blown out with the surprises & twists it throws at you with its terrific screenplay, beautiful narration, very intimidating suspense thriller, soulless drama, nature of brutality, revelation of many secrets to the laymen like us and fantastic performance by Dexter. It is one hell of a Series and I may complete season 2 by today… The pace of the movie is apt and you get hooked up from the first episode itself and damn each episode is better than the previous episode with an ultimate finale for each season and I hope each season turns out better than the other. I have to say it is more gory, brutal, intense, powerful and addictive than breaking bad, prison break and even sherlock holmes.

        • cr7 10 years ago

I said the same about Homeland in last month’s thread . Good that i didn’t even try 3rd season .

Agree about Dexter .I seen the first season only .Its a fantastic series . Don’t have much time these days . Will try to watch next season quickly .

Just back from Krrish. A very watchable and enjoyable film, liked it despite bit of cheesiness..far better than what i thought it would be. Red chillies special effects are superb..rakesh roshan direction is also good.

  6. anjanpur685miles 10 years ago

On bo front, today evening being Lakshmi puja will be low 12cr kind or even lower, but this film is going to put up huge number for sure by the end of its run..and deservedly so.

  7. saurbh 10 years ago

@mate srk rejected lgaan coz producer was not available, this you can verify frm the filmfare interview which sputnik posted.
3i he rejected coz he wanted to be the producer too, which hirani agreed but vidhu didn’t
munnabhai ge rejected coz of date issue.
he rejects movie based on the people, how much comfortable he is, that’s y he works with Chopra nd johar without reading scripts. ND some people cant get him because of his uncomfortableness with people. I dnt think its ego but if u think its ego then np.
krish he rejected coz of date issue. He Ws comfortable with roshan. ND he also said he generally not comfortable with multi starrer with same exposure as other, or it should be comedy
he Ws never below the Devgan, though may be sos did comparable business as jthj, but same as Aamir Ws never at low though talash earn 90 cr, u cant say somebody is below if he is nt continuously below continuous 3-4 years. Srk was 2nd at that time too..

  8. Anajanpur685Miles 10 years ago

The only yawn moment/loo break in the film for me was “God Allah BHagwan” song – but as I had guessed earlier – Kaal and his ppl strike right after that. The screenplay is tighter in first half.

@Sputnik – agree on Vivek, he was subtle and very good.

The film has good repeat value. Yakuza is correct – there is so much in the movie..

@Baba, I didnt know SRK was offered this. In fact I imagined srk in one of the scene of Kaal while watching the movie – and I agree – he would have done a good job. Cant say better than Vivek though – vivek is also too good.

  9. Anajanpur685Miles 10 years ago

Also, while we criticize RR for cheesy dialogues – there are many scenes where the dialogues and delivery of them do strike a chord and they are awesome. One such is – when Kaal talks about who has same bloodline as his – (before interval). I see this as a director’s film totally and RR deserves the credit.

    • Baba 10 years ago

yes.vivek is a good actor especially in villain roles.i loved him in SAL too. RR is good at screenplay. he knows how to connect the dots in a story.i think he is one of the rare old filmmakers of the 80s and 90s who can still strike a chord with todays generation . abbas mustan are another such filmmaker.the rest have more or less become irrelevant.

      • yakuza 10 years ago

Rakesh roshan, Mukul Anand, Indra Kumar, Suraj Barjatya, David Dhawan, Mansoor Khan were emerging directors of 80’s .. Except Mansoor and Mukul(No more), All are still active and giving Hits … Mukul Anand would have achieved big heights if alive … btw Yash chopra was only director from 60’s who was giving hits even after 50 years ..

        • Baba 10 years ago

i forgot david dhawan 😀 indra kumar is still a good filmmaker, but he works very less. i enjoyed grand masti a lot as guilty pleasure

Watched a couple this weekend –
Ajami – This is an Israeli movie which was nominated for Oscar. It is somewhat on the lines of city of God but this focusses more on the drama and emotional aspect of the characters rather than raw action and gun shots…. I loved this movie. It has enuff twists and turns to keep you engaged and also gives you the tense socio-political life of this disputed area of Jaffa where you have Arabs, Jews, Christians all living together.
This movie follows a non-linear chapter-wise screenplay in Tarantino style and the way all the dots are connected in the end is awesome.
    Highly recommended..don’t miss it.

Had watched it a few months back on FS’s recommendation. My comment:

“The movie was like a Israeli version of the movie Crash but made in a documentary fashion. The movie leaves the first story somewhat incomplete. Did not like the ending. Taking the kid brother in the car when going to sell drugs just because he was throwing a tantrum seemed ridiculous. Also if Binj died of a drug overdose wouldn’t the cops search his place?

Performances were good by everyone. The movie doesn’t show anyone as completely bad or completely good. The movie was slow paced and a bit too long. They could have edited some scenes.”

      —————–

Watched another Israeli movie Jaffa (Kalat Hayam) In the Israeli city of Jaffa, an Arab father and son — Hasan and Taufik — work at a garage owned by a Jewish family that includes the pretty Mali (Dana Ivgy). But the tensions simmering beneath the surface of the genial workplace are about to come to a boil. A secret affair between Mali and Taufik has grave repercussions when Mali becomes pregnant in this gripping drama, an official selection at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.

While the main plot/story was good the movie specially the indoor scenes looked like that of a TV serial. The way tension was being built between Mali’s brother and Taufik I knew what would happen but the main confrontation scene between them should have been better. It seemed too deliberate. The movie then fast forwarded to 9 years with hardly any change in their appearances. Mali’s decision at the end made me feel sympathetic to her Jewish parents.

      Performances by everyone were good.

Also watched Primal Fear…I did not know that this has already been remade in Hindi as ‘Deewangee’ starring Ajay Devgan and Akshay Khanna and in fact, the remake was not too bad. Since I had watched the remade,I could remember the main twist in the plot which took away the enjoyment to some extent. Still, its a very well made thriller and definitely recommended.

Krrish 3 compromises less and delivers more.. Good story telling by Rakesh roshan.. Special effects are awesome although imagination is less.. But still good use of money..
I hated the previous movie krrish.. But this one is a massive improvement
The songs are a big distraction.. Especially since they were so out of context. .. But the biggest thing that works in this movie is that there’s at least a story to tell… I didn’t like the fact that they ripped some famous superhero flicks and even back ground scores.. Ironman .superman.. Spiderman.. X men.. you name them and it’s there.. But even despite that. Rakesh roshan managed to engage the viewer.
Performances wise.. Kangna and hrithik are the best of the lot… Vivek is quite efficient as the villain

    Amadeus
This movie has been on my list for a long time. Finally Sputnik’s post compelled me to watch it. And what an experience. What to say – WOW! It goes straight into the list of my all time favorites. A true epic movie in all respects. I got to know that this movie won 8 Oscars..m not surprised, it deserves all the accolades. Particularly, the direction, art direction, music and performances are exemplary. Performance of F. Murray Abraham in the role of Salieri, a musician with negative shades unable to digest Mozart’s superiority, is mind blowing. I am not a lover of Opera or tht kind of music and this movie has quite a few elongated Opera scenes. To my surprise, it was able to old my attention mostly in those scenesand even engage me as well. Don’t miss it! Must watch for every movie lover.

      Glad you liked the movie.

Watched Olympus Has Fallen and my views are similar to yours and cr7’s views.

      ———————-

Olympus Has Fallen Director Antoine Fuqua’s action thriller stars Gerard Butler as a disgraced Secret Service agent who must come to the rescue when Korean terrorists descend on the White House and take the president hostage.

Its a typical American masala movie where the US President is in danger and one man rescues all. The movie has a ridiculous plot and is filled with implausible scenes but it is still a time pass movie. Vfx were bad in a lot of scenes like the scene when the helicopters crash.

Gerard Butler was good. Aaron Eckhart was ok. Dylan McDermott’s acting was similar to his acting in Edison. Morgan Freeman, Angela Bassett and Radha Mitchell were ok. Melissa Leo was overacting.

      • FS 10 years ago

Olympus has fallen is a timepass masala film inspired frm Die Hard but it was too bad except the firework on sky.

Is Amadeus bearable if one doesn’t like poetic films or that has too much of singing?

        • Author
          sputnik 10 years ago

From what I remember there are a quite a few opera scenes and they were somewhat lengthy and I had to fast forward them because of my roommates back then. I am not a fan of opera singing either.

But you can fast forward those opera scenes. I can’t watch movies where actors sing all their lines instead of speaking and thankfully this was not like that.

      • hithere 10 years ago

Saw very similar “white house down”. Timepass. Liked some comic scenes with Fox. Thought the daughter was not necessary to the plot.

  17. Baba 10 years ago

this guy played ant character in k3. he is sameer ali , afghan actor cum martial artist. he should have got more scenes. he had only one fight scene with kangana and was the only guy not using cables in the film

  18. Anajanpur685Miles 10 years ago

Great Baba, I also liked “Maanvar” (mutants) very much in the movie.

  19. Reddemon 10 years ago

I am Surprised that many members here liked Krrish3.

I felt it was a big bore and very badly directed film containing all the unwanted scenes. Like Instead of Showing the aeroplane scene or the one in which he saves a child or Songs they could have shown the some clash between mutants or something like that. It neither had the thrill nor the Style of a Superhero flick. Kangna falling in love with krishna over a Kiss was LOLworthy. A usual Rakesh Roshan film with lot of cheesy dialougues. Its not even worth mentoning that the film is inspired from every possible superhero of the world including Shaktimaan. The dialouges of a superhero film was missing. Songs were bad and untolerable.

Hrithik was pathetic as Krishna and Rohit but tolerable as Krrish. Kangana and Vivek are Ok.

One of the worst Movies i have ever watched.

    • hithere 10 years ago

It is not bad but I would say it is marginally better than Shaktimaan. It has some story to tell and it has a flow. Kiddish, yes but most of the movies are like that in Indian context. As some one (I think Sputnik) was suggesting, it is like an educational film where voiceover keeps on explaining stuff because audience probably wouldn’t understand things.

ps – There are not many directors who can make Toy Story kind of a movie and satisfy both young and adults.

  20. Anajanpur685Miles 10 years ago

    @Hithere

You are absolutely right about Toy Story thing.

But very unfair when you say “marginally better” than …

It is a huge improvement over past superheroes we have seen.

Its a very engaging story (ofcourse Shaktimaan also was) 🙂

  21. Anajanpur685Miles 10 years ago

    @hithere

Aur aapne jo Toy Story ka example diya hai na….I think you are comparing a Galaxy of men with a single man on earth (Rakesh).

And Pixar means an overall thought process – its a school/ an university/ Universe of its own.

    🙂

  22. FS 10 years ago

Krish3 – Liked everything about first half but second half was terribly bad. I was hoping it would end soon but the climax was dragged like hell and why did they had to rip off complete climax of Man of steel? It was X-Men v/s MOS. VFX is very bad but in some cases it was excellent on par with Hollywood. the other good thing is it really had a story but it failed to live up to its expectation. I thought by interval, that, it is going to be better than Koi Mil Gaya but after the bad second half & pathetic VFX I would say it is on par with Krish, kiddish sorry of film.

  23. cr7 10 years ago

The Last Temptation of Christ Nikos Kazantzakis’s landmark novel comes to life in director Martin Scorsese’s moving, spiritual and highly controversial film that
challenges the Christian notion that Jesus (Willem Dafoe) was both a man and a divine being. With an all-star cast that includes Harvey Keitel, Barbara Hershey, Harry Dean Stanton and David Bowie, the film portrays Jesus as unmistakably human, susceptible to the desires,
doubts and temptations that all men face.

Watched may be 40 minutes of the movie and stopped. I can completely understand if Christians find it blasphemous. I was expecting that the movie will show Jesus as a normal human being without any miracles but the movie was horrible making up whatever nonsense it wanted. It was still showing Jesus talking to some snake and all the magical stuff.

Willem Dafoe was horrible as Jesus acting like some retard and talking like some modern American. Harvey Keitel looked ridiculous as Judas and he was being given too much importance. Barbara Hershey was bad as Mary Magdalene.

    ——————–

The Wings of the Dove In the wake of her mother’s death, Kate Croy (Helena Bonham Carter) moves in with her wealthy Aunt Maude (Charlotte Rampling), who, not wanting her niece to follow in her mother’s footsteps by marrying a commoner, introduces Kate to rich gentleman Lord Mark (Alex Jennings). Kate prefers the penniless Merton Densher (Linus Roache), yet she also enjoys fine things and schemes to win not only Densher’s love, but an heiress’s money.

Movie was good though slow paced. A major part of the movie is set in Venice and the Cinematography was very good. Movie was nominated for Oscars for Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography and Costume Design.

Helena Bonham Carter was nominated for Best Actress. Her role was slightly negative and she was good but don’t think she was that great. She did not have that much screen time either. Alison Elliott was very good as Milly, the dying heiress. I think she deserved an Oscar nomination instead. Linus Roache was decent.

  25. narad_muni 10 years ago

Watched Krish 3 finally..What disappointed me is that while the initial portions of the movie builds up a good interesting premise,Rakesh Roshan spoils the movie in the 2nd half by walking down the age-old beaten down formula.. Either he did not have the balls or the vision.
Robot till date remains the best Indian superhero movie and that too by a fair margin.

The 1st half was no doubt pretty good and I was plesantly surprised as I had not expected the movie to have an interesting different story.
But the 2nd half spoiled it for me. The climax was also stretched beyond point.
Another major drawback of the movie is the songs..what crap! The songs are bad and on top of it, the placement of the songs are pathetic.
Normally, Rakesh Roshan is good at placing songs at the right points which elevates the movie. But here, he falters and the songs should not have been there.
Only Kangna’s song with Hrithik made some sense.

Hrithik is very good as Krish and hams as Rohit…Kangna is really impressive and the best of the lot. Vivek is okay, din’t find him as good as I had heard.

VFX was so-so…It looked tacky at many places. I think people in general have lower standards when it comes to VFX from Indian movies. And that’s the reason many people are
    finding it good.

Still, with all its flaws, I found it watchable/timepass/decent. Not good, not bad.

    • narad_muni 10 years ago

      Couple of more points –
Why such a blatant promotion of 100 odd brands..they din’t even leave the climax scene alone. Tata motors, Air India, Shoppers stop, Mcdonalds, Biba, Toyshop, Bollywood Hungama etc etc – you name it n u got it. Is Rakesh Roshan so desparate for money that he is ready to spoil the experience?

Priyanka Chopra had a meaningless role…n she luked and acted pathetic.

Kon-Tiki With five loyal friends in tow, explorer Thor Heyerdal sails a fragile balsa wood raft along an ancient path some 4,300 miles across the Pacific. Along the way, they’re attacked by tidal waves, sharks and all the dangers the ocean can muster.

Its based on a true story and was nominated for an Oscar for Foreign Language Film last year. Watched the English version. Good movie liked it. Could have been better if the movie had delved into the background of each character as they all had interesting back stories.

There was one bird being eaten by shark scene which looked stupid and it turns out that was not true. Performances were good by everyone.

Nell When Dr. Jerome Lovell (Liam Neeson) and Dr. Paula Olsen (Natasha Richardson) discover Nell (Jodie Foster), who lives alone in a remote backwoods area of North Carolina, they’re astonished to find a woman who has formed her own language after being cut off from civilization.

Its based on the play Idioglossia which means an idiosyncratic language that is developed usually by twins that only they can understand. It started off as something different and interesting but it had lot of implausible stuff and was very cheesy in parts.

Jodie Foster was very good and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress. Liam Neeson and Natasha Richardson were ok.

We’re the millers – Its predictable but Complete entertainer . One of the better comedies in recent times.Everyone performed exceptionally well . Jennifer anniston didn’t look her best but she is still one of the finest actress when it comes to comedy .

We’re the Millers When a small-time pot dealer gets mugged, he needs to find a way to pay back his supplier. Agreeing to smuggle in a major stash from Mexico, he rounds up a fake family to act as his cover, and they head for the border in an RV.

Liked the movie. It dragged a bit but some of the scenes were hilarious.

Jennifer Aniston looked old but was good. Jason Sudeikis, Will Poulter and
Emma Roberts (who looked pretty) were good too.

      ———————

Arthur Newman Abandoning an ex-wife, a hateful son and a bored mistress, a discontented man fakes his own death and is reborn as Arthur Newman, golf pro. But his new identity is a non-starter until he meets a spirited woman who’ll supercharge his reinvented life.

Did not like it. I expected more than them just breaking into other people’s houses and pretending to be others.

Colin Firth was ok. Emily Blunt was good. Anne Heche was ok.

      • cr7 10 years ago

Glad u liked it . Most hilarious scenes were the plane scene, kissing scene, drawing scene . The police family they met in road were hilarious too .

Yeah. The kissing scene was the best. I knew that the other girl would see her teaching him to kiss but they made it even more funnier by adding the father and mother bit to that scene.

Saw German movie – The Silence. It is a sad movie but well made. If you liked Memories of Murder most likely you will like this as well.

    • Author
      sputnik 10 years ago

Had liked The Silence too. Here is my comment from September.

“The movie reminded me of Memories of Murder with the murder and investigation part but the murderer is shown in the very first scene itself. The movie is not open ended about the murderer’s identity at least for the audiences. Here the movie is also about the victim’s families. The movie can be considered almost sympathetic to pedophiles.

Movie was a bit slow paced but I liked it. Its a very good movie. Excellent performances by Ulrich Thomsen, Wotan Wilke Möhring and Sebastian Blomberg and good performances by the supporting cast.”

Dexter – Completed season 3. First season is one of the best seasons I have seen of any series but second and third season are still excellent despite all the odds and flaws it has. Season 2 & 3 emotionally connects you with the character Dexter and his way of seeing things. Can’t wait to start season 4 now.

  34. hithere 10 years ago

Saw Grown Ups 2 – If you like the genre then it is decent. If you don’t see it, you are not missing much. Some decent laughs.

The Purge – Based in future, during certain time frame, people can kill each other and it is legal. A disturbing movie but essential it is about haves and have-nots.

  35. saurabh 10 years ago

@FS i didn’t like the first season much, though i was in BB hangover. i stopped after the episode when audience get to know who is the killer. So after that I stopped watching. Lots of patience needed to watch such a serious serial. not a single moment to laugh.

    • FS 10 years ago

So how many laugh’s did Breaking Bad had to offer you? anyways, Dexter is not about only serial killing, homicide’s or catch me if you can type but its more about following a code, in here its Harry’s code and Season 4’s first and second episode tells you the advantage of that and they come into the best of the episodes.

PS: Why do I feel many Srk fans have seen Breaking Bad only because Srk had talked about it?

      • John Galt 10 years ago

not exactly laughter, but Breaking Bad did have some smiling moments or moments of jubilation, you can say.

    Watched a few –

Office Space – the story is set in the Y2K era involving few people working in a software company. The hero doesnt like to do a desk job but he kind of forced to..but one fine day, he breaks free…then there are a couple of his close friends in the office who get fired by a consultant company..it has its moment of laughs and smiles and I think anyone will enjoy the movie. But, its nothing gr8 or new…it is rated pretty high on IMDB..don’t know whether its worth it. Good timepass comedy

50/50 – Now, I knew very less about this movie before I started watching it. This movie is about a young guy who gets a very uncommon cancer of the spine and that too in advanced stages. It takes you on a journey with this guy and how his life and relationships change after he is diagnosed in his struggle to beat the disease. The highlight of the movie is that it strikes the right balance between practicality and sentiments and never goes overboard. And it has its fair share of smiles and laughs throughout, even in the most uncommon situations, it makes you emotional but never gets depressing..The relationship with his close buddy is superbly developed. Even all the other relationships are characters are well developed – the therapist, his ex-girlfriend, his mom and not to forget, his chemotherapy buddies.
Unfortunately, one close family memeber of mine has recently been diagnosed with cancer ..so, may be I could relate to the movie better. Anyways, I would definitely recommend it to everyone..great watch!

Not sure how u define a cult movie… but, I did not find anything different or out of the ordinary. I enjoyed the movie though. Btw, how do u say that its a cult movie? It could have been kind of a cult movie some 13-15 years back but does it have such a fan following even now?

        • Author
          sputnik 10 years ago

Its a true cult movie in the US specially for people who work in the software field. Situations/dialogues from that people still pop up in normal office conversations or in meetings.

Whenever someone is moved from one cube to another someone will joke about moving them to the basement (borrowed from the movie). There will be the stapler thing when someone mentions a stapler. Layoffs is something everyone will identify from the movie. Every guy whose last name is hard to pronounce will identify with the line “No one in this country can ever pronounce my name right.”

          • narad_muni 10 years ago

Got it… may be the US software employees identify better with this movie.

@Fs if I hv hurt u then sorry. But BB had dark humor moments, nd they are doing plenty. Even creator nd main character said in a interview “humor is essential part of any creative thing if it want to run”,
I said my views, I didn’t want to hurt u. Nd idk wat provoked u. U could hv said same thing in a light manner. Nd if u notice my comment then I had stopped watching dexter after 1st season, which apparantly u said best of Dexter. (though my frnds were telling that after 1st season it gets better so looking fwd it) ,
nd SRK wala comment to was really unfair. Wen I started I knew SRK had seen it, but I started for my time pass, nd instantly liked 1st episode, though it ws not great episode, but then I followed ww. SRK ne to bhut kuch dekha h, me to esa ni krne wala.
or ab SRK fan kuch bhi dekhenge jo SRK ne dekha h to ap het bar yahi comment krenge kya.
dude I cn say one thing in my case I am not following him blindly.
PS: plz liking nd disliking of a serial is personal, u can criticize my comment but I hope ur criticism could be light. Coz m NT saying anyting against u. Though I watched 5-8 episode continuously(forgot exact numbers), but I ws not enjoying much. Just its suspense ws the one thing for which I saw it. Though BB I watched 8 episode (1 full season) continuously, withough going for pee, that also from 3am to 10am(approx time).
    2. I liked batman too in all superhero character, nd SRK ka bhi yahi taste h,ab tum or bhi esi batein bol skte ho, jo apne BB k bare me khi.” I think I liked batman coz SRK had liked” u can make those statement.

    • narad_muni 10 years ago

I agree FS’ comment is very harsh and unfair.
There was nothing u had written which would have provoked him.

@FS – I have noticed this earlier as well.. I know u r passionate and u spend a lot of time writing nice posts and recommending movies. BUT when someonle doesn’t like a movie you recommend, you seem to get hurt and respond in a harsh manner. You need to relax in such scenario as every individual has different taste and u need to respect it. Just bcoz someone doesnt like a movie/serial which u like a lot doesnt mean u sud b questioning him or be harsh or critical of his opinion.

I hope u take the above comment positively. U r one of the main contributors to Tanqeed..n many including me look forward to yoir posts and recomendations. Please continue to do the same

      • FS 10 years ago

Shilac – I engineered my previous comment to invoke reactions and enjoy the “dark humor” moments similar to BB & by the reactions i successfully attitudinized as dexter 😛

I never get angry when some one dislikes my recommendations nor do I care because Iam still a learner but when someone tries to flaunt his subjective opinion as national interest then i definitely do get pissed off…

I never expected Saurabh to take that comment so seriously.

    Warrior

One of the best sports/action movies of recent times based on Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)
Provided me with good doses of adrenaline-pumping action and goosebumps – just what I expect
    from this kind of movie.
Two brothers, very contrasting characters, separated from each other long back face each other in the finals of MMA tournament.
A father filled with guilt and remorse – The movie balances drama, emotions and action in the right proportion
to come up with an engaging, enthralling and entertaining piece of cienma.
The fight scenes are excellently choregraphed and filmed..everyone performs really well thought Tom Hardy takes the cake.
The background music is good though a bit loud. Overall, highly recommended. For lovers of this genre, don’t miss it.

Watched Warrior last year and had liked it. Here is my comment.

“Saw Warrior and liked it. Tom Hardy was excellent and Joel Edgerton was decent. Fight scenes were exciting. Liked the whole family angle in the movie. Liked the scene of the first fight where the wife is restless waiting for the call. One thing I did not like was that they took rooting for the underdog to a whole new level. The underdog keeps getting pounded but he still wins. I wished that part was handled better.”

Actually watched a pure action movie after a long long time… What a movie! No story, plot, no beating around the bush..100 minutes of adrenaline-pumping raw action. It’s got to be one of the best action movies in recent times. Some of the action scenes are so damn good..can be watched again and again. the fight in the corridor which Baba posted and the fight with Mad dog in the pre-climax are the highlights. A must must watch for lovers of action genre!

Zacked- Bad luck against man u . Draw would be a fair result .We should have taken more shoots at goal . Also too many wrong pass which doesn’t go along with our midfield . Still I think We are very mucha title contender . Btw do u think we shouldn’t play flamini and arteta together ? One of them is a necessity but when both of them play it slow down our game. Waiting for poldi and walcott to return .

  44. Zacked 10 years ago

Yes. We played very poorly in the first half. So many misplaced passes. But we were a better team second half, that too when Flamini was taken off and Wilshere went on the wings and Ramsey came back in the center. I think playing on the wings does not suit Ramsey at all.

Also we were quite tired i thought coming after 2 big games against Liverpool and Dortmund. We are missing wide players (Theo and Poldi). Hopefully they will be back after the international break.

3 win able games coming after the break, Southampton, Cardiff and Hull. Should take 9 points IMO.

Friends with Benefits This raucous rom-com chronicles the relationship of two busy singles, Dylan (Justin Timberlake) and Jamie (Mila Kunis), who agree to include sex in their friendship — minus the emotions and commitment. But things get complicated.

Started off well and was funny with the sharp witty dialogues but lost its way in the second half with the usual cliched melodrama.

It’s one more movie based on The Deal episode of Seinfeld. No Strings attached which released the same year is based on the same The Deal concept. Here is a link which sarcastically talks about the differences between the two movies.

    https://www.hollywood.com/news/movies/7819578/7-crucial-differences-between-friends-with-benefits-and-no-strings-attached

Justin Timberlake was ok. Mila Kunis looked hot and acted well. Woody Harrelson was good.

First 30 minutes of the movie had nothing but sex and oral porn. Though clichéd that was the only thing it had going for.

If Arsenal are tired now, they should think of Second part of the season. They need serious back up. But all in all happy for their start, wenger deserves more respect.

On United, there were 4-5 occassions where kagawa was in good spot in middle of the park but not a single teammate passed to him.

Rooney keeps running around a lot… but is selfish infront of goal and misses chances, doesnt create more chances. One of his left footed shot was unnecessary, could have been a better pass by someone like ozil/kagawa.

But defensively great work, as someone said of F365, FA has allowed a blue team to change colours to red ( Everton —- > Man United ) … but i dont mind sometimes u need to win 1-0’s… good to smalling, jones and evans coming of age properly.

Second half united were poor simply cause jones was not in midfield.

    ozil disappointed big time.

Zonal marking was bad decision for united’s goal.

The Hangover When three friends finally wake up after a wild bachelor party, they find a baby in the closet and a tiger in the bathroom. But they can’t locate their best friend, who’s supposed to be tying the knot.

Finally watched it and liked it. Some scenes were hilarious. ZNMD did take slight inspiration from some bits – Ed Helms’s character is the basis of Abhay Deol’s character and his fiance is the basis for Kalki’s dominating bitch character. There is also the satchel or purse.

Bradley Cooper was good. Ed Helms was ok. Zach Galifianakis was good. Mike Tyson was good in a cameo.

Seven A seasoned homicide detective and his new partner are on a desperate hunt for a serial killer whose gruesome crimes are based on the Seven Deadly Sins: greed, gluttony, sloth, lust, pride, envy and wrath.

Excellent thriller (though slow paced) except for the ending. I was able to guess what the ending would involve from previous scenes and could not believe that it does not strike them. I wanted a more unexpected/profound ending.

Morgan Freeman was very good. Brad Pitt was good. Kevin Spacey was excellent. Gwyneth Paltrow looked gorgeous.

    —————

Valmont Seeking revenge on the man who jilted her, the Marquise de Merteuil persuades a former lover, the rakish Valmont, to deflower the man’s virginal fiancée. Valmont agrees, but in return presents the marquise with his own challenge.

Its another adaptation of the 18th-century French novel Les Liaisons dangereuses. The excellent Dangerous Liaisons based on the same novel released the year earlier. So don’t know why Milos Forman bothered making this movie even if he had started earlier.

Did not like it and stopped halfway through it. Colin Firth was no good when compared to John Malkowich’s excellent performance in Dangerous Liaisons. Annette Bening was pathetic and her acting was laugh worthy compared to the brilliant performance by Glenn Close in Dangerous Liaisons.

Its a coming of age show depicting the life of a boy in a typical American suburb from 1968 to 1973, covering his ages of 12 through 17. I think you will like it. Dexter Season 4, 5 & 6 – These three seasons in my opinion should easily overtake Breaking Bad in terms of surprise elements, thrills, chills, emotions & humor. Performances of every other character in this series has improved quite a lot from previous seasons but the main Characters Debra and Dexter remain the center of Attraction. Each season is made in such a way that sometimes you tend to loose your patience, determined to know solution to the problem or how Dexter overcomes his obstacles. You may feel that every season may have happy ending but the thrills & chills it offers, and suspense developed in each episode, the surprise elements of his each kill and laying out all the information and details of his each kill sometimes gives you goosebumps thinking what could go wrong during his mission. Few episodes are extraordinary… Hoping to finish 7th and 8th season this week. Highly recommended guys !!!

The Way Way Back – First Half it was boring, slow paced and felt as though it headed in a pointless direction but second half was much fun, sweet and felt good in the end. Above average movie.

Scent of a Woman – Movie is pointless except the performance of Al Pacino. Last time I had seen it till Pacino heads to his brother for lunch and felt this is a total pointless film. Now after I competed the movie still feels the same except his outstanding performance.

Magnolia Through chance, human action, past history and divine intervention, an eclectic cast of characters weaves and warps through each other’s lives on a random California day, building to an unforgettable climax.

Its a 3 hour long movie. It was good in parts but it was also too wannabe. It wanted to be this epic movie on all these different characters who all have their own issues or mental problems. The ending is again something which many will hate even though its plausible.

Tom Cruise was good in some scenes and OTT in some scenes. He got a Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for the movie. Julianne Moore was way OTT. Jason Robards, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Philip Baker Hall were good. William H. Macy was usual. John C. Reilly was somewhat annoying. Melora Walters was good.

Watched a few this weekend –

Gone baby gone – My respect for Ben Affleck as a director increased immensely after Argo. So, decided to check out some of his earlier films. Liked the movie a lot.. This starts out as a typical baby kidnapped movie, investigation, suspects etc but leaves you with lots of emotions and raised a few questions as well. The movie is engaging throughout and the emotional bit in the end also strikes the right chord. Definitely recommended!

Remember the Titans – I am sucker for sports movies and I like them normally unless they are bad. This is sports movie with a regular theme – racial apartheid background, how the coach and the team come together and emerge triumphant. Its a well executed movie with great performances from everyone. The sports scenes could have been better executed. But I guess the director focussed more on the human part of it. It’s actually the emotional part which makes this movie a great watch.. the friendship between the Captain and Julius and the relationship between the 2 coaches is nicely done.
This movie has a very similar theme to Invictus – I liked both of them. But, Invictus is on a bigger scale than this.

Red 2 – Had liked Red 1 and liked Red 2 as well… Just missed Morgan in this part 😉 there is not much of a story and there is not much of a violence. But there is definitely large amount of style quotient and attitude. It has an ensemble cast just like Red 1 with an additional inclusion of two popular stars Anthony Hopkins and Korean superstar Byung-hon lee (bittersweet life). Good popcorn entertainer.

Prisoners – A slow paced suspense drama where Huge Jackman’s and his neighbors 2 girls get kidnapped during the thanksgiving evening and Jake Gyllenhal is a detective that is put in charge of finding the girls. The film is very slow sometimes but both the lead pairs have given their finest performances in a long long time. Story could have been more engaging and thrilling but nevertheless a good watch.

I knw its not everyones cup of tea and some may find too much of violence & blood in it but it has all other ingredients too which makes it one of the best series i have ever seen. Ratings 5/5

I am assuming you watched the American version. I had watched Daddy Cool the remake of the original British version and thought it was ok. It felt like a British movie I mean the humor and all. They hardly did anything to change it to Indian setting.

      • cr7 10 years ago

I’ve watched the British version . Didn’t know about the Hindi remake .

        • FS 10 years ago

Both versions and remakes are funny… Some scenes are hilarious!!!

I had completed 5 seasons of dexter. Downloaded 6th but could not finish the 6th season. Will start watching it again.

BTW completed 2 seasons of Fringe. Pretty much hooked to it. Also started watching the West Wing. The acting in west wing is top notch. Finished 5 episodes of the west wing.

Also watched the first episode of Almost Human which premiered on Sunday, found it interesting.

    • cr7 10 years ago

i also started fringe . Still in the first season .Looking good . Almost human looks interesting .But i will start after the season ends.Same with the blacklist .I can’t wait one week for each episodes .I usually finish whole season in 2-3 days 😀

The Village -liked it .Its a thriller.the main drawback is the plot .It is weird. It has flaws and sometimes looked stupid. But I loved the mysterious atmosphere of the movie .The cinematography,BGM was excellent .Some chilling moments, the suspense was there till the last .i think if the budget was little higher it could be much better . Still worth a watch .

    • cr7 10 years ago

On second thought I think budget had nothing to do with it .

    • dwnpiyush 10 years ago

‘The Village’ is one of my favorite movies. It is an incredible concept and I was completely awed by the originality and thoughtfulness of the film. In my view it is one of the best Hollywood movies ever.

      • FS 10 years ago

piyush and cr – is this the one you are talking about? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0368447/

        • dwnpiyush 10 years ago

Yes this is the one. 6.4/10 on Imdb. Like the highlighted user review says- it is extremely underrated. In the age of reboots and remakes and book adaptations- this one is an incredibly well made and well acted original film.

          • cr7 10 years ago

I appreciate the originality of the concept. And most importantly the movie is engaging. I made the comment immediately after watching the film . Now when I look back in to the film , I agree with piyush that it is a well made film . Didn’t like as much as Piyush did but I would recommend it.the ending was a total surprise.Whatever I disliked about the movie the ending made up for that.

          • FS 10 years ago

Watched The Village and to be honest I didn’t like it at all. I was expecting few dozens of thrilling/scary moments in it but sadly there were none.

            Spoilers Alert:

The movie started on a good note for first 15-20 mins, there was nothing special about it but it was engrossing. The moment they shown the Alien kind of creature every expectation in me died down. There were no scary moments later on at all. The movie sounded me even more ridiculous after the climax (very predictable especially the treasure box & alien death) because sending a blind girl to the town knowingly is stupidity. An oath is important than the persons life?

Now when you think of the woods, post climax, everything looks stupid, rubbish and exaggerated.

        • cr7 10 years ago

LOL FS . As i said in my comments the plot is weird and seemed really stupid at times . But what u said about the ending is complete opposite for me . I thought after ending some of the stupidities made sense . Whats your thought on the music? As i said I liked the atmosphere of the movies . Locations, BGM gave it a mysterious feel .

          • FS 10 years ago

From where do they procure livestock? Apart from food, from where they buy their clothes? Since everyone has taken an oath not cross the territory or go back into the town, from where they procure the accessories?

When that blind girl tells her name to the police in the end as Ivy some Walker, the police jeep has also some Walker name attached to it. Why did they zoom in specifically to the name? if the woods is owned by the walker then was it not easy for him to procure some medicines to save that boy?

All these concerns pops out in the mind from nowhere post climax. Most stupid thing is to send the blind girl. Even the escorts were not allowed to go after a point. How can possibly a blind girl go to town and bring medicine & without a straight road? It’s not only stupid but ridiculous.

About background score – As I told first 15-20 mins, it was good and engaging especially due to background score…

I actually sat after switching off all lights and increasing the volume watching all alone after reading your reviews.

          • cr7 10 years ago

LOL FS .It wasn’t a horror. So didn’t require so much preparation . i think some of questions can be explained . i will try to to do it 😛 .

        • dwnpiyush 10 years ago

@FS, It was not at all horror- I think that notion was the very befalling of the film. The climax worked for me and I watched it again that very minute. It was like a well constructed fairytale I guess… dunno… it connected with me.

          • FS 10 years ago

Dwnpiyush and Cr – Actually you both are right. I got it all wrong. I was expecting a horror movie and because of that it went all wrong. Normally I watch movies without any expectations and end up liking most but satisfaction varies.

The movie really holds the attention till the disclosure and even after that for a while. The background music plays an important role in it but I still stick to my objections and doubts on the Climax.

I figured out exactly what could be in those boxes when the blind girl reached the end of the road. But then all of a sudden so many questions starting hitting my brain and I was like, what?

I know the concept director tried to portray & his post climax reasons are understandable but the excuses given are implausible and that’s where I differ with you two.

Watched Ram Leela. While its an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet it also is Ishaqzaade + GOW. Its almost totally shot on sets and it felt like watching another Saawariya set in la la land. The movie could have ended at the halfway mark but SLB just dragged it for no reason. There were too many songs which kept popping up every few minutes.

Ranveer Singh looked bad in the initial portions but was ok in some scenes later on. Deepika’s acting was bad in the initial scenes where she was trying to copy Aishwarya from HDDCS. But she was very good in some confrontational scenes. But she is shown as almost despo whenever she is with Ranveer. Supriya Pathak repeats her Khichdi act. Richa Chaddha was good but did not like her voice/dialogue delivery in the way she speaks. Gulshan Deviah was bad.

Watched Gone baby Gone .Thanks Narad for the recco . Liked it . Excellent movie. Agree with what narad said . Its a very emotional movie which raised questions.Casey Afflek was brilliant . And the ending was great too .Not often u see such a ending ,moral ambiguity at its best. How many of u think he did the right thing ? Just your opinion .

I liked the film but the whole plot of abduction and death of his friend hold no meaning to secure the future of that girl child. Person of such status could have used other means to secure the life of that child.

Spartacus – What a fantastic series. It has everything from romance, action, comedy, politics, suspense, drama and fantastic performances but the three pillars are Romance (porn), Action (so beautifully choreographed & executed yet powerful in its display) and Politics (innumerable plots that challenges your mind and shocks you as it unfolds).

The background music during the fights or during the wars and the sensual romantic scenes or semi nude scenes are excellent. Each episode looks as if it is made of huge budget. The Performers as gladiators, the main start cast as Spartacus itself and all the supporting cast have actually lived their roles as real as possible. It may not be emotionally bonding series nor one that is visiting again and again but it is inspiring enough to know about the personality called Spartacus and the slavery under Roman empire. Highly Recommended!!!

    • cr7 10 years ago

Spartacus is very entertaining . And it is like tv porn .No reason to dislike it 😀

Hot Tub Time Machine Fueled by energy drinks, vodka and nostalgia for their younger, wilder days, a group of aging best friends travels back in time to 1986, where they get the chance to relive the best year of their lives. And their time machine? Well, it’s a hot tub.

It has a very silly plot but its a time pass comedy. It reminded me of 80s movies. Some scenes were hilarious and some were gross. Not everyone will like it though.

John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Clark Duke were good. Chevy Chase cameo was apt considering he was the star of many 80s movies.

Heartbreaker (L’arnacoeur) Alex along with his sister, Melanie, and her husband, Marc earns money by breaking up relationships. But when Alex falls for a client’s daughter, Juliette, he must decide if he’ll bust up her wedding to Jonathan, who’s truly perfect for her.

Did not like it and did not finish it. Movie had too many implausible things. Also the lead actors Romain Duris and Vanessa Paradis were both weird looking for the parts.

Jerry Maguire After years of successfully navigating the shark-infested waters of sports management, Jerry Maguire experiences a crisis of conscience and leaves his high-powered job behind, with only one loyal football client and a starry-eyed co-worker in tow.

Had watched a couple of scenes from the movie a few years back and thought it might be a corny chick flick. So had avoided it all this time. Movie was part sports movie and part chick flick but liked it a lot. It had a message or what the movie says – “heart”. Some scenes felt a little bit corny or OTT though. Liked the scene a lot where Tom Cruise dishes out advice to Cuba Gooding Jr as a friend. Jerry dating the single mother and the final scene reminded me of As Good As It Gets which by the way released after this movie.

Tom Cruise was very good though he was doing his usual mannerisms specially in the initial parts. Cuba Gooding Jr felt very OTT and annoying at the beginning but then his character was supposed to be like that. While I liked him I don’t think he deserved the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. I think Edward Norton in Primal Fear deserved the award. Even James Woods in Ghosts of Mississippi was better than him. Renée Zellweger was what she does usually – look cute and give cute expressions – but I think I liked her in this one. Kelly Preston and Bonnie Hunt were good. Regina King was loud and OTT but again her character was supposed to be like that. Jonathan Lipnick, the kid from Stuart Little was cute.

Was surprised to hear the music of the original song of Kahin Karti Hogi Wo Mera Intezar composed by RD Burman. Here is The Lonely Bull by Herb Alpert & Tijuana Brass

    Krissh 3

    Spoilers!!!
Had extremely low expectations from this one, so found it okay. Story is surprisingly fleshed-out and there are attempts to close the loop on most things. Some scenes are quite good, esp ones between Kaal and Rohit and Kaal and Kaya. Vivek does a decent job but his character needed one more scene where he could stamp his authority. Kangana is okay in some scenes but her dialogue delivery is terrible (almost dehati, which sounds weird coming from a mutant). Priyanka is hardly there. Hrithik hams and irritates as Rohit, is irritatingly dim-witted as Krishna and pretty good as Krissh, although the ballooning muscles and same dance step routine is getting old now. He needs to rework his look for Bang Bang. Music is terrible. VFX is better than Ra.One. Direction is good at times and very old school otherwise. Rakesh Roshan relies on cheesy dialogue to carry the story forward, which is cringe-worthy. Also, too many scenes involving characters talking to themselves or each other explaining the details to audience. I guess subtlety was not an option since the target audience was kids, but at least some things could have been implied. Nobody speaks like Rohit does in his first scene “Maine soorja ki shakti ka rahasya ab jaan liya hai, mere calculations is baar galat nahi hone chahiye, mera experiment sahi hoga”. Yawn! Overall, a decent superhero movie from Indian perspective. From global perspective, still a long way to go to get to The Avengers/The Dark Knight level.

    GKR Raam-Leela

Fantastic movie with great dialogues, excellent direction and spirited performances. This movie reminds once again what a good director can achieve. SLB does a great job writing and directing the film and brings out the best in all his actors. I wasnt sure how Ranveer Singh would do in a complex role and cringed throughout his entry song. But he rose to the occasion and how! He is just fantastic and I cannot imagine many other actors who could have done his chichora with a heart role so well. Deepika is mesmerizing, and although she falls short of being brilliant like Ash in Hum Dil or Madhuri in Devdas, she is miles ahead of all actresses of the current generation (perhaps except Vidya, but I hated her terrible over the top act in Ghanchakkar and did not like her in the trailer of Shaadi Ke Side Effects either). So glad Kareena did not do this film. She would have got rid of all the intimate scenes with Ranveer which were essential to establish the attraction between them. Ranveer-Deepika chemistry was outstanding! Supriya Pathak has an author-backed role and effortlessly chews the screen when she is in it. All other actors do their bit well. Music is great and beautifully used. Especially, Lahu Munh Lag Gaya, Ang Laga De and Laal Ishq are haunting; Ram Chahe Leela, Nagada Sang Dhol, Ishqyaon and Tattad Tattad are appropriately placed and lift the movie. Dialogues are superb and bring freshness and fun to the proceedings. There are a few glitches in the script like the ridiculous contract scene in the end, and the movie could have been about 20 mins shorter, but with the rest of it being so enjoyable, I did not mind much. Wish to see more movies from SLB. After the grossly overrated Black, the dull, soporific Saawariya and good but long Guzaarish, he is back with a bang!

“What Lies Beneath” – So Raaz was ripped from this movie. Had good performances and background score. Had some good scary moments. Had a brilliant flow of story. 3.5/5

“Silent Hill” – OK movie. Had a good climax and some thrilling moments. 2.5/5

“Silent Hill – Revelation” – Again an ok movie to the prequel, but the earlier one was tad better than this. 2/5

The American After a job in Sweden ends more harshly than expected, Jack retreats to the Italian countryside. While there, Jack takes an assignment to construct a weapon for a mysterious contact, Mathilde. Jack pursues a torrid liaison with a beautiful woman, Clara and their time together evolves into a romance, one seemingly free of danger. But by stepping out of the shadows, Jack may be tempting fate.

Movie was very slow paced. Also felt like Clooney and others were mumbling. The small Italian town and the love story part of it reminded of The Godfather.

George Clooney was good. Violante Placido looked very pretty and acted well. Did not realize that she had acted in Barah Aana. Thekla Reuten was good as the assassin.

Movie had good visuals and good background score. Shinji had posted one from the movie here.

If u haven’t seen sinister ,u can check that out .It was decent . Could have been scarier as the plot was good . Shutter is a japanese/korean movie .It was a good horror too .

If you have interest in psycho horror, you can watch “Orphan”. Though, its second half was kind of routine and sleeze content was also there in the movie, still, it is a decent one time watch.

The Uninvited – Its a psycho thriller .Decent movie .It was looking really cliche till a point but becomes very good in the climax. After watching it i found out that Its a remake of “A tale of Two Sisters” a film I downloaded long back and in my watch list .Looks like made a mistake by watching the uninvited .I assume the Korean version is better .Anyone seen both?is it okay to watch A tale of two sisters now ?

Bull Durham – Very Good entertaining comical movie. Recommended!!!

Chariots of Fire – Another Brilliant recommended film. Outstanding!!!

The Natural – Another Excellent movie with Charismatic character. Highly Recommended!!!

Field of Dreams – Regarded as one of the best sports movie but to me it was nothing but crap. Illogical and can’t fathom the ludicrous plot itself. Just like holy shit, its a Holy Crap.

Friday Night lights – Interesting movie with miscast star cast. Many things looked wanna be.

We are Marshal – Thoroughly entertaining but could have been much better. Recommended!!!

Brian’s Song – Regarded as an Epic sort, it is an interesting movie no doubt and the performances were fantastic but i think there was a lack of sync between the director and actors. Recommended!!!

Elysium – It’s an entertaining and engrossing sci fiction movie with a good performance from Matt Damon. It has some terrific visuals but there is no link between the fact and fiction. Better don’t think too much about “how”, “why” and “really” sort of questions while watching it coz the whole situation and theme is unexplainable. But its a good time pass entertaining movie. Recommended!!!

3 Iron – What a brilliant soulful film it is. Someone posted a comment on my post from facebook and from that day I had curiosity to watch it. You won’t even listen a whisper from the protagonist through the movie and apart from one yell neither from the main actress. You can say modern day silent film but with an exception, brilliant screenplay. After this I wish to complete watching “the summer, spring, winter & fall” movie which is there in my radar for a very long time. Highly Recommended!!!

We are Miller’s – Thanks cr for recommendation. It was entertaining and funny enough to be called as popcorn entertainer. Liked it.

2 Guns – Another interesting and very entertaining movie. Liked all the dialogues from Mark Wahlberg and the chemistry between Denzel Washington and Mark is the highlight of the film. Recommended!!!

Gran Torino Curmudgeonly Korean War vet Walt must confront his Hmong immigrant neighbors — and his own prejudices — when their teenage son Thao tries to steal Walt’s beloved 1972 Gran Torino. Walt soon assumes the unlikely role of guardian angel to young Thao.

Read narad_muni and FS comments from the September thread and agree with them. Good movie. Liked it. The ending was not something I expected – was kind of disappointed with that. Movie starts off with Clint’s character as an angry old man annoyed with his neighbors and almost racist but the relationship between him and the kid and the girl was very nicely developed.

Clint Eastwood was very good and must say I love his direction – the way he subtly develops these human relationships whether its Million Dollar Baby or this. His conversations with the priest reminded of Million Dollar Baby. Bee Vang and Ahney Her were good too. Christopher Carley was somewhat annoying as the priest.

Apolcalypse Now 1979 – Watched it because many have raved about this movie in the past both by critics and members but for me it was long boring movie on an assassin (US army) sent to kill a General (US Army) for some dubious actions he took without consulting his seniors in Vietnam War and now hiding in Cambodia. There are some good visuals and thats about it. Rest looked like a wannabe movie made on some superstar or dedicated to some superstar most probably marlon brando though he had a very small part in it. this movie may have been some sort of cult on war movies for its time but I don’t think it ages well with time. Has got 8.5 rating in IMDB

My comment on Apocalypse Now which I watched in January.

“Finally watched Apocalypse Now the theatrical version. Thought of watching the Redux version but many on IMDB were saying that they preferred the original version. Had tried to watch this more than ten years ago but the length had scared me off and it was the reason that I had not watched it until now.

Synopsis: During the U.S.-Viet Nam War, Captain Willard is sent on a dangerous mission into Cambodia to assassinate a renegade colonel who has set himself up as a god among a local tribe.

Movie was good but I was kind of disappointed with the ending after all the build up. The movie shows the horror of war. Cinematography was great and the background music and the songs used were good. Martin Sheen is just like his son Charlie Sheen not only in looks but even in acting talent at least in this movie – may be just a wee bit better. Marlon Brando was excellent in the few scenes that he had – wish he had a longer role. Robert Duvall was excellent in the few scenes that he had. Francis Ford Coppola’s direction was good except for the ending.

I had watched Platoon like ten years ago and had liked the movie. After seeing this I feel Platoon is inspired by this movie. It has Charlie Sheen (instead of his father Martin Sheen) narrating the movie similarly and it had other scenes too which bore similarity with this movie.”

If you have not watched Platoon then watch it. I think you will like that. Its a better movie even though its inspired from this movie and is based on the same Vietnam war.

About a boy – My favorite genre .Warm, fuzzy movies with feel good ending .it was good . There are 1-2 melodramatic scenes in between but that’s okay for this genre .Liked the ending a lot . Hugh grant was very good .

The Ghost and the Darkness While working for a railroad baron in colonial Uganda, engineer John Patterson finds his construction efforts stymied by a series of lion attacks. Grizzled hunter Charles Remington is called in to head the desperate effort to kill the animals.

This is the third time I watched this movie. I had watched it first time way back in 90s and again in early 2000s. The movie is based on the book The Man-eaters of Tsavo. Very good movie – very engrossing but its a fictionalized account of the true story of the Tsavo Man-Eaters who were a pair of notorious man-eating lions responsible for the deaths of a number of construction workers on the Kenya-Uganda Railway from March through December 1898. Link

Michael Douglas was good but his character is totally fictional and there was no such character in the true story. Val Kilmer was good as the Engineer who is also a hunter. Tom Wilkinson was very good in a small role. John Kani was good. Did not like Om Puri in it.

    ——————————-

The Experiment In this gripping thriller, a group of men volunteers to take on the roles of guards and inmates at a mock prison as part of a controversial psychological study. But when the guards abuse their power in alarming ways, the prisoners stage a revolt.

The movie’s plot is inspired from the famous Stanford Prison Experiment of 1971. Movie was very engrossing but also very disturbing. Its basically a study of how power can corrupt people.

Adrien Brody was very good. Forest Whitaker was excellent as the crazy psychotic guy acting as the prison guard. At one point in the movie I wanted Adrien Brody’s character to hit him – this is the second time I have hated a character so much after Nurse Fletcher in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

Two very good recommendations then. Will download and watch soon.

      btw watched;

Grand Masti – It was a laugh riot for more than one and a half hour. last 20 mins or so wasn’t that good or may be I lost out laughing my ass out. The movie has nothing to tell to the audience, all it had was many comical scenes one after another may be from different hollywood films and trying to bring adult jokes on screen. They were successful in executing such scenes but they lacked script like they had in prequel. It consisted of many rofl scenes and no correlation to the proceedings of the movie. Anyway, had fun to watch this movie and every one have performed superb. Their comic timing is brilliant. Highly Recommended!!!

Juno – Its a nice fun chick flick with very good performance from Elen Page. A college teen gets pregnant and not aware of what to do next, she takes up some advice from her friend and decides to look for people desperately wanting to be parents but couldn’t for various reasons. She finds out one beautiful couple and decides to hand over her unborn child after its birth to these parents. Cr must like this film as its a feel good, warm and unsophisticated film.

Captain Phillipe – The way film was shot it never looked as a staged or scripted one, it looked as real as it gets and when the film ended I came to know that its a true story about Captain Phillipe and the Somalian hijackers. Everything in the film is carried in details, the screenplay and Tom Hanks fantastic performance elevates films viewing experience to another level. The one who acted as Somalian Pirate is fabulous and damn he many time overshadowed Tom Hanks in some scenes. It also shows how important US considers its citizens and how much of pressure they have to carry out missions such as this where they have to guarantee the safety of the hostage even in non negotiation. Awesome film and Highly Recommended!!!

The Third Man 1949 – It’s a thriller film in which a novel writers friend is killed in an accident just before he arrives in vienna to visit him. When he meets some of his friends he realizes that there is more to do with his death and is not accidental. He also finds out that there was a third man as witness to the accident and is unable to track him down. The film may not attract today’s audience but still it is worth the watch. Even I couldn’t guess the Pre climax and post climax chor police race was also shot good.

I watched the 2010 English version. Its a remake of the 2001 German movie Das Experiment. Read the plot of the original on wiki and looks like they made a lot of changes.

Watched The Experiment and liked it. It really pissed me off when everything went against rule and the torture that led to death of a cell mate. At one point of time the film looked silly then as the torture continued, I got pissed off & thought that the whole experiment concept is staged by forrest walker himself then thought he is a real guard put with those inmates to push the boundaries a little too far for the experiment but finally when everything went out of control I thought it is an experiment that went wrong. But how come one can forget the torture they went through in that closed block & forget everything after they were released? Didn’t make sense to me.

Since it is based on true story, I have to accept it that way which is definitely wiered

Dodgeball – Very predictable movie . But laughed a lot . Didn’t drag a bit . Good time pass movie .

  93. dwnpiyush 10 years ago

Closer: Saw it just because of its two gorgeous female leads . Almost every frame has either one or the other, so it is quite a visual delight. Otherwise I don’t know what to think of the movie as such. I think it is a study of twisted/deranged/dysfunctional relationships/individuals. The dialogues are full throttle explicit, but are damn witty and sharp in most scenes. I especially loved the scene towards the end when the both male leads confront each other. As a movie though, it is definitely one of those which I find very hard to rate. One thing I can say for sure is that it didn’t drag despite just four characters and minimalistic (mostly indoors) settings.

Piyush i call it as a verbal porn but i enjoyed it & liked it 😉

I had quite liked “The Experiment” when I first saw it. The best part about the film is that even though the I was pretty much in disgust and frustration as to what goes on in the movie for about 80% of the film..still by the end of it I realized I as an audience was also part of “the Experiment” having being sympathetic towards one of the character and hence developing anger and frustration just like him.

    A brilliant film.

I find Donnie Darko an utterly stupid film… It’s story is more pointless and stupid than some shahrukh or akshay films.

Commando Col. John Matrix (Arnold Schwarzenegger), the former leader of a special ops team, is vaulted back into action to save his young daughter (Alyssa Milano) who has been kidnapped. Her life is threatened lest John assassinate a South American president. Rather than being strong-armed into such a proposition, John takes matters (and lots of guns) into his owns hands as he fights through the jungle against his enemies to save his daughter.

Completely ridiculous and OTT action movie. Arnold lifts the phone booth with the guy in it. He dangles a guy with his left hand. He chases a guy in a open top convertible with a girl in it while the guy is shooting at them and is slamming into his car. Did not know that shops sold rocket launchers. He basically can go anywhere he wants to and break anything he wants to.

Arnold instead of just catching and beating up the bad guy decides to chase the guy by kidnapping or carjacking and following the guy and asking the girl to bring the guy to him so he can catch/beat him. There are many implausible scenes in the movie.

Arnold Schwarzenegger does what he usually does – OTT action and deliver one liners including “I will be back”. Rae Dawn Chong was ok. The child actress who plays Arnold’s daughter is Alyssa Milano and she was ok.

Love this mindless action movie 🙂 Loved it as kid when it was difficult to understand English except dishum-dishum. Saw it after 2000 and still liked it.

Bol- – liked this movie .I liked the way this director deals with religious matters . Like khuda kay liye it is another well made movie .There are some really strong, hard hitting dialogues .Performance is very good from the lead actress. others are good too . Liked the songs .Now the negatives, The whole telling the story to media before execution looked very childish.Few melodramatic scenes here and there . But Definitely Recommended .

Cr – I liked it too. Very well made movie and it had a good release in India too but went unnoticed due to Bodyguard fever.

Sputnik – Commando was like “The Movie” just like “Terminator 2”. Loved every bit of it and enjoyed more than any hollywood movie during school days & in those times, like Rks said, it was all about Power display, bulging biceps, muscles, dishum-dishum fights, larger than life actions etc…

Just finished watching ‘Memories of Murder’ (Korean)… engrossing but disturbing. The drama was really well cooked and the two main leads were fab. The desperation, of not having any clue about who the serial killer is, builds up, as does the pace of the film. The way the personalities of the leads change, and how they are personally affected, is really well brought out. In many ways this movie and Hollywood’s ‘Zodiac’ are similar. But this has more weight and gravitas than Zodiac, which I think was a bit artificial sometimes, but no less engaging.

skimmed through 3 major hw films – bourne identity, terminator and die hard. had heard that BI and DH were action films but they have hardly any action especially BI. terminator was probably path breaking for its time.
