Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota Review by Sputnik

It is a story of a young boy Surya who has a rare condition of Congenital Insensitivity to pain meaning he can not feel pain, and he sets out to learn martial arts and hunt down muggers.

The movie starts off with the childhood of Surya and Supri. Surya wants to fight chain snatchers because his mother died due to a chain snatcher but he never really fights any crime. The movie takes forever for Surya to grow up but then the whole premise/plot of Surya deciding to get Karate Mani’s chain from his brother Jimmy seems ridiculous.

Supri’s family backstory seems totally unnecessary and tonally inconsistent from the rest of the movie. Karate Mani seems to be able to fight with hundreds of men but then is found captured with hands tied.

Some action scenes are good like the fight scene at Jimmy’s office and the final fight scene. The problem with the action scenes is that most of them are slow motion scenes.

Abhimanyu Dassani was good as Surya and he was good in the action scenes. Surya’s character is somewhat like the
Kick-Ass’ character from the movie Kick-Ass. Radhika Madan looked pretty as Supri and was good in the action scenes. She looked very short though in many scenes. Gulshan Devaiah was good as Karate Mani and excellent as the psychotic villain Jimmy. Mahesh Manjrekar was very good as Surya’s grandfather.

Screenplay by Vasan Bala is bad. The story/plot is too ridiculous even for a martial arts action movie. One may be a action movie buff and may want his movie be a tribute to all the action movies that one watched while growing up but still the movie by itself has to be entertaining. Unfortunately Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota is boring and not entertaining at all.

The movie works neither as a comedy/spoof nor a superhero/action movie. Vasan Bala directs scenes as if they are very smart/witty/funny but they are not funny at all. They hardly make you chuckle. If only the movie was as funny as the two teasers they released it could have made for a entertaining movie.

Seems baseless hate. This movie hits home with millennials, and the newer generations. The movie was exciting, funny and NOT boring, but I’d definitely judge you to be boring, if you found something like this so uninteresting. Personal review aside, you didn’t even have an unbiased look; the screenplay was good, not the best but it did well, the dialogues weren’t the best but they made sure to us it was a comedy rather a serious film and the cheoreography of the actions scene were the best part of the film. The heroine and the villain were awesome too. Yours is really a stupid review.

    “Seems baseless hate.”

I do not know Vasan Bala personally to hate his movie for no reason. Why would I hate a movie if it was so entertaining?

Glad for you if you loved the movie.

For a movie that did not do well at the boxoffice and which has only 1800+ ratings how did you decide that “This movie hits home with millennials, and the newer generations.”?

I feel you did not even read my review properly. Instead of calling me boring, biased or my review stupid why don’t you try to counter my points.

I did praise the action scenes. “Some action scenes are good like the fight scene at Jimmy’s office and the final fight scene.” but I also pointed out that most of them are slow motion scenes.

Here is my comment about the heroine and the villain.

“Radhika Madan looked pretty as Supri and was good in the action scenes.”

“Gulshan Devaiah was good as Karate Mani and excellent as the psychotic villain Jimmy.”

I absolutely stand by my review that the screenplay by Vasan Bala was bad. The movie did not work either as a comedy/spoof nor a superhero/action movie. It was like Vasan Bala was confused and did not know whether to make a serious superhero/action movie or a comedy/spoof.

I did like the teasers and I was hoping for an entertaining movie. The last line from my review – “If only the movie was as funny as the two teasers they released it could have made for a entertaining movie.”

Since I visited India, I randomly watched a scene on youtube, Surya watching Supri fight those thugs to save the roofied girl, after he comes back as a grown up. So I loved that scene and decided to check out the movie to see what this is all about. I don’t know Hindi. I watched it with English subs.

I gotta say, Mr.Sputnik, I 100% agree with your review. I wish I never watched this whole film because I can say the only good part of the movie was what I watched on youtube. Nothing else.
I cannot agree more when you said, the director directed in such a flashy slow motion way as if the what he shot was so clever, witty etc. 100% true. Technically speaking, if a particular scene was clever and witty or interesting, the way they filmed would be epic. But all that epicness after you watch it, you would wonder so really? This is what you came up with? and you used the camera angles and all kinds of gimmicks to show this? it was laughable.

Also, I don’t know about India but it seems like too many tragic things happen so quickly? I hope this is not normal in India. Cinema theatre guy fighting a pregnant woman? Shortly after she get murdered by a chain snatcher? Drunk father immediately beating up his little girl that jumped from 15 feet high? Dragged her away? Little kids trying to stab each other with geometrical devices? Little kid kicking a grown man off the roof? I mean, I would be surprised if ANY ONE of this happened in my life or my entire life.

Like I said, something about that particular scene when Surya rediscovers a girl who fights thugs and watched it in awe, I should have just lived with that and not watched the whole movie which ruined the whole thing for me. Please continue writing honest reviews like you do.

Thanks Stacey for your wonderfully written comment and appreciation. Will definitely try to continue writing honest reviews.

I liked the teaser on youtube too and thought it would be an entertaining movie.

No, all those things shown are not normal in India. Some old B-Grade movies have very weird backstories but even they don’t have anything like the one they showed in this movie.

Like I said the director was confused and couldn’t decide whether to make a comedy/spoof or a superhero/action movie.
