Kai Po Che and Zilla Ghaziabad Boxoffice Collections Thread

Kai Po Che Decent Opening Zilla Ghaziabad Dull Opening

Friday 22nd February 2013 12.30 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Koi Po Che had a decent opening of around 40-45% while Zilla Ghaziabad was dull across the board with around 20% Kai Po Che was helped by good collections in the premium multiplex areas of Mumbai, Pune and Delhi NCR though some other parts of the country like UP and Punjab were low. The film had no face value but the promotion created awareness especially in the big cities where collections are much better.

Zilla Ghaziabad was dull in the morning and stands no chance at the box office as a film like Kai Po Che can improve as the day goes along but Zilla Ghaziabad being an action film has limited upside.

Both films have Hollywood release A Good Day To Die Hard for competition which also did not open well apart from a few centres in East Punjab where there is the novelty of the film being dubbed in Punjabi for the first time.

Kai Po Che Day One Business

Kai Po Che collected a decent 3.75 crore nett on day one as it fared pretty well in metros. The collections were decent as the film had a limited release at many places and no known faces in the film.

The film did its best business in Mumbai and Mysore. The collections were decent in Delhi but that countered by the poor collections in UP, it was a similar story in East Punjab where Gurgaon was decent but the rest of the circuit poor. Central India also did not fare well.

The film should show growth on Saturday especially as the areas it is doing better in tend to have very good business on Saturday. Overall the film will depend on what sort of numbers it can get in metros over the long run.

The biggest plus is the film can do very well in Mumbai circuit as it is class appealing film so Mumbai city can score and a Gujarat setting should help in Gujarat enabling the film to have the two biggest components on Mumbai circuit on side.

    Zilla Ghaziabad First Day Business

Zilla Ghaziabad collected a poor 3.50 crore nett on day one with only single screens doing a bit better. The collections of the film were better in UP, Bihar, CP Berar, CI and Rajasthan with a lacklustre performance across all metros.

The film had a fairly wide release and as the first day recorded poor occupancies the film will struggle for growth on Saturday and if the growth does materialise it will be well short of what the film will need.

In the mass belts like UP, Bihar, CPCI and Rajasthan where Zilla Ghaziabad had comparatively better collections the collections were double of Kai Po Che but much lower than Kai Po Che in the metros especially Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore.

Kai Po Che Good Growth Zilla Ghaziabad Down

Kai Po Che showed good growth on Saturday as it collected around 5.50 crore nett taking the two day total to around 9.50 crore nett. The film showed huge 80-100% jumps across all metros though in other areas the jump was less at 20-30%. the film should show good growth again and gross 16 crore nett plus over the weekend.

Zilla Ghaziabad went down on Saturday grossing in the 2.75-3 crore nett range giving it a two day total of 6.25-6.50 crore nett. the film was down practically all over India with some places down by 30%. The weekend will around 10 crore nett for Zilla Ghaziabad as Sunday will not be much more than Friday.

    Kai Po Che Weekend Business

    Monday 25th February 2013 11.00 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Kai Po Che grossed around 15.75 crore nett over its first weeeknd. The film had a pretty good start in metros on Friday and consolidated in these areas on Saturday and Sunday. Business outside the metros did pick up but as start was low the overall business also remained low. The approx breakdowns were 3.75 crore nett on Friday, 5.50 crore nett on Saturday and 6.50 crore nett on Sunday.

The weekend business of the film was similar to another non cast film ABCD – Anybody Can Dance released a few weeks back and the trend was also the same with Mumbai and South faring better but not quite to the extent of that film which was very lop sided.

The film grossed around 7.25 crore nett in Mumbai, 3.15 crore nett in Delhi/UP, 1.10 crore nett in East Punjab and 1.20 crore nett in Mysore.

    Zilla Ghaziabad Weekend Business

    Monday 25th February 2013 11.00 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Zilla Ghaziabad grossed around 10 crore nett over its first weekend. The film had an average start at some single screens but could not hold these collections over the weekend. The multiplexes were dull at most places.

The film has little chance for even reasonable overall business as the weekend is too low for such a film. UP, Bihar, Rajasthan fared best for the film. The film grossed 3.75 crore nett in Mumbai, 2.15 crore nett in Delhi/UP, 65 lakhs nett in East Punjab and 80 lakhs nett in Rajasthan.

The film which is a 35-37 crore investment may not even collect a 10 crore all India distributor share from domestic theatrical collections.

    Zilla Ghaziabad Monday Business

Zilla Ghaziabad grossed around 1.75 crore nett on Monday and the drop was 50% on Monday than Friday as single screens in some areas showed good collections.

But despite the film being fairly steady on Monday the 1.75 crore nett figure is a low figure for Monday. The four day business of the film is around 11.75 crore nett and the week should finish at around 15.50 crore nett which is not impressive.

The single screens in UP are best performing due to film having been set in the locality. The collections on Monday at UP single screens were similar to Friday.

Ka Poi Che Holds Strong On Monday

Ka Poi Che held up strongly on Monday as it collected around 3 crore nett which is 20% less than Friday. The circuits which did not open well recorded similar or ever better collections on Monday than Friday while the multiplex dominated metros were lower than Friday by 25-30%.

The four day business is around 19 crore nett and the week should finish around 26 crore nett which would be a decent total for the film and if the weekdays show good trending, it is likely to put up a good second week figure.

The overall business of the film will be best in circuits which have high multiplex contribution like Mumbai, Mysore and West Bengal. The other multiplex dominated circuits like Delhi/UP and East Punjab will be lower as the film opened poorly in these circuits.

Ka Poi Che On Lines Of ABCD – Any Body Can Dance

After five days the business of Kai Po Che is very similar to ABCD – Any Body Can Dance. Many circuits have similar figures, the only major difference in the business of both films for first five days is that ABCD – Anybody Can Dance was around 25% stronger in Mumbai while Kai Po Che is 50% stronger in Delhi/UP and East Punjab.

The figures in Rajasthan, CI, West Bengal and Mysore are set to be very similar for both films in week one and so will the all India total with Kai Po Che also grossing around the 26 crore nett mark in week one as North India cancels out the lead that ABCD – Any Body Can Dance has in Mumbai.

Kai Po Che has scored well in Mumbai city, Pune, Kolkatta, Bangalore and parts of Delhi NCR while good business in other areas was also going to be a stiff task due to content and no face value although Gujarat could have given the film a boost as it was set there but business remained below the mark in Gujarat and Saurashtra.

Kai Po Che Has Decent First Week

    Friday 1st March 2013 11.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Kai Po Che had a decent first week of around 25.75 crore nett. The film was steady on the weekdays though collections were low in some circuits. The film has performed best in Mumbai city, Pune and Bangalore.

The film has held on well as far as screen time is concerned in the second week in the big metros and the second week is all important for the film.

The new releases have not opened well and could it be that Kai Po Che leads the box office race in week two as well but more important will how big are the second week collections.

Films like ABCD – Any Body Can Dance and English Vinglish collected 10 and 11 crore nett respectively in their second weeks and Koi Po Che would have to collected at least as much as those films to come out with a decent final total.

I Me Aur Main And The Attacks Of 26/11 Open Poorly

    Friday 1st March 2013 11.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

The new releases of the week I Me Aur Main and The Attacks Of 26/11 both opened to a dull response of around 15% at multiplexes. The Attacks Of 26/11 was ahead of I Me Aur Main as the film opened far better than I Me Aur Main in the Mumbai/Maharashtra belt.

Both films will need quick improvement in collections especially at the multiplexes if the weekend collections are to be worthwhile. The attacks of 26/11 will have better collections in the single screens of Maharashtra and a few other parts but that will not be enough for the film. But films will find tough competition in the form of Kai Po Che which could out gross both films despite being in its second week.

The other release of the week Bloody Ishq opened to very poor houses on a limited release.

Kai Po Che Holds Strong On Eighth Day

    Saturday 2nd March 2013 10.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Kai Po Che held on strongly on day eight as it collected around the 1.75 crore nett mark. The collections were down just around 50% from its first day.

The collections at multiplexes were far better than both the new releases especially in the metros. It takes the business of the film to around 27.50 crore nett and the film should do weekend business of at least 7.50 crore nett as Saturday should see a big jump at multiplexes as the new releases have not impressed.

The film is strong in the metros while collections in other tier 1 centres are low but pretty steady. The ten day business of the film will be in the 33-34 crore nett range.

I Me Aur Main And The Attacks Of 26/11 First Day Business

    Saturday 2nd March 2013 10.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

I Me Aur Main and The Attacks Of 26/11 both collected poorly on day one and collections for both films were in the 1.50 crore nett range as per early estimates.

I Me Aur Main was better in places like Delhi/UP and East Punjab while The Attacks Of 26/11 was better the circuits in which Maharashtra fell into like CP Berar and Nizam.

The Delhi/UP contribution was around 30 lakhs for I Me Aur Main with The Attacks Of 26/11 being just 20 lakhs while CP Berar it was the other way around with The Attacks of 26/11 being 12 lakhs and I Me Aur Main just 6 lakhs. As the openings are so low there is very little chance for both films at the box office.

I Me Aur Main And The Attacks Of 26/11 Flop At The Box Office

    Monday 4th March 2013 10.00 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

I Me Aur Main and The Attacks Of 26/11 started poorly on Friday and the weekend business remained dull with limited growth.

I Me Aur Main grossed in the 5.25-5.50 crore nett region while The Attacks Of 26/11 grossed in the 5-5.25 crore nett region. The business on the Monday will not fall heavily as compared to Friday as Friday itself was so poor.

Both films have investments in the 20-22 crore region and with such low weekends the domestic theatrical returns will not be much more than 5 crore for both films.

The Attacks of 26/11 had better collections in Maharashtra while I Me Aur Main was better in most of the other areas. The other release of the week Bloddy Isshq was a total washout.

Kai Po Che Rock Steady In Second Weekend

    Monday 4th March 2013 11.00 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Kai Po Che was rock steady in its second weekend as it collected around 8.25 crore nett. The drop from the first weekend was just 45% as the film had a huge jump in business on Saturday.

The business of the film in ten days is around 32.50 crore nett and should end the second week with business in the 37-38 crore nett region.

The film managed to hold well across the board though the Gujarat belt is the disappointment. The film always going to find it tough in mass centres and be stronger in the metros and that has what has happened but with the film being set in the region of Gujarat it was key circuit as the biggest mass circuit could have come on board due to regional setting but it was not to be.

The lifetime business of the film will cross 40 crore nett and should end around the 45 crore nett.

I think Gujarat is under performing because it is too close for comfort. The Hindus of Gujarat won’t like a movie which brings back memories of Godhra and which shows them as killing Muslims in retaliation. The Muslims of Gujarat will not like a movie that brings back memories of post Godhra riots.

How did Guru which was based on a Gujarati and not like Ready/G3 do in Gujarat? I think it did well in US where there is a significant Gujarati population.

Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns First Day Business

    Saturday 8th March 2013 11.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns managed decent business on its first day collecting around 3.25 crore nett on day one as per early estimates. The film picked up at certain places and also with older releases being fatigued out and no major competition at the box office this week also helped the film a lot.

The first day of the business was as much as the combined business of last week’s two releases I Me Aur Main and The Attacks Of 26/11.

The film did its best business in Delhi/UP, East Punjab, CI and Rajasthan with both multiplexes and single screens returning decent figures. Business in other areas was comparatively lower. If the film shows just normal growth over the weekend it will come out with a decent 11.50 crore nett weekend.

Basically the film will cross the business of Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster (2011) in just two and a half days. The other release Saare Jahaan Se Mehnga was very poor with fisrt day collections likely to be 10 lakhs on a best case scenario.

    Jolly LLB First Day Business

    Saturday 16th March 2013 10.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Jolly LLB had decent collections on day one has it collected around 3 crore nett. The film picked up well and had good collections in the evening at multiplexes of big cities. The film did not do well at the smaller circuits but scored well in Mumbai, Delhi/UP and East Punjab.

The collections in the Delhi/NCR are were actually good beating all releases of 2013 apart from the three big releases in the form of Race 2, Special 26 and Matru Ki Bijilee Ka Mandola.

The film collected a healthy 80 lakhs in Delhi/UP and a good 35 lakhs plus total in East Punjab. Mumbai should come in at around 1.15 crore nett while circuits like CP Berar, CI, Rajasthan, Bihar and Nizam have limited contribution and have recorded low figures.

Mere Dad Ki Maruti And 3G First Day Business

    Saturday 16th March 2013 10.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Mere Dad Ki Maruti and 3G had poor collections on day one. Mere Dad Ki maruti collected in the 1-1.25 crore nett range with better collections in Delhi/UP and East Punjab but circuits like CPCI recording very dull collections.

3G was the opposite to Mere Dad Ki Maruti as CPCI had the better collections while Delhi/UP and East Punjab were extremely dull as the film collected around 70-75 lakhs nett.

Both films will find it tough going at box office unless Mere Dad Ki Maruti doubles up on Saturday and 3G trebles its collections but these sort of jumps are very rare.

Jolly LLB Mere Dad Ki Maruti And 3G Saturday Business

    Sunday 17th March 2013 13.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Jolly LLB showed good growth in Mumbai on Saturday while Mere Dad Ki Maruti showed good growth in Delhi/UP and East Punjab. 3G remained with similar collections to Friday all over.

Jolly LLB has done decent business over the two days while Mere Dad Ki Maruti has collected very poorly outside North. The collections in the North are better than the rest of the country but still pretty low.

3G has fared better in CPCI, Nizam and East due to the horror factor but collections in big circuits are very low making the overall business very low.

The two day business for the films is 7-7.25 crore nett approx for Jolly LLB, 2.25-2.35 crore nett approx for Mere Dad Ki Maruti and 2.05-2.15 crore nett for 3G.

    Monday 18th March 2013 12.00 IST

The collections of Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster fell heavily as it collected 2 crore nett approx in its second weekend. The drop in the second weekend is in the 80-85% range.

The ten day business of the film is around 19.75 crore nett and it could add another 1 crore nett approx over the next four days to take its two week total to around 20.75 crore nett.

The first week business of the film had given the film a chance but it was unable to sustain after the first week and now it is likely to finish at just 22 crore nett making it an Average/Below Average fare.

Jolly LLB Mere Dad Ki Maruti And 3G Weekend Business

    Monday 18th March 2013 11.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Jolly LLB has done well over the weekend grossing around 12 crore nett. The film fared best in Delhi/UP and East Punjab grossing 3.20 crore nett and 1.45 crore nett respectively. The film has not fared well at single screens but that was expected and the film should score on strength of multiplexes.

Mere Dad Ki Maruti grossed around 4.50 crore nett approx over the weekend and business on Sunday at places was decent but the film was hit by a very low opening. Still the Sunday collections at key centres suggest that Monday should be very close to Friday and even possibly more.

3G could naot make much impact grossing around 3.75 crore approx. The film fared best in Bihar, CP Berar, CI and Nizam. In Bihar and Nizam the collections were better than the other releases as Jolly LLB and Mere Dad Ki Maruti were very poor in these circuits.

Jolly LLB Holds Well On Monday

    Tuesday 19th March 2013 11.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Jolly LLB has held up well on Monday collecting in the 1.75-2 crore nett range compared to 3 crore nett on Friday. The drop is just 35-40%.

The film is mainly doing well in Delhi/UP and East Punjab with reasonable collections in Mumbai but the collections over the first four days are good enough for the film due to a reasonably low budget and if the film hold over the next week or so it is likely to become the best performer of 2013 theatrical returns against budget is concerned.

The first week business of the film should be in the region of 18 crore nett and it remains to be seen if the film can add accumulate shares after the first week.

Jolly LLB Has Good To Decent First Week

    Friday 22nd March 2013 10.30 IST

Jolly LLB had a good to decent first week collections as it collected 18.50 crore nett approx. The film had good collections in Delhi NCR and East Punjab while the rest of the country saw fair collections.

Delhi/UP collected 5 crore nett approx which is one of the better first week totals for that circuits this year. The film held steady on the weekdays but most films this year have found it tough after the first week and it remains to be seen what Jolly LLB can do.

The week before last Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns had recorded similar figures with similar trending but will end up adding just 4-5 crore nett business after its first week run.

Mere Dad Ki Maruti And 3G First Week Business

    Friday 22nd March 2013 11.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Mere Dad Ki Maruti grossed 8 crore nett approx in the first week and despite collections being steady on the weekdays it is still a low first week total due to the poor start. The film does actually have decent appreciation in the North as collections have caught up with Jolly LLB at some theatres of Delhi and Punjab but a film can’t go far today unless it collects well in week one.

3G collected around 6 crore nett in its first week better collections in places like Maharashtra, Bihar, CP Berar, CI and Nizam where the horror factor helps. 3G was also pretty steady on weekdays but it does not help its cause as the weekend was so low.
