jai ho poster Jai Ho Has Good Opening But Not Bumper

Friday 24 January 2014 11.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network

Jai Ha had a good opening with single screens doing very well ranging from 80-100% while multiplexes opened in the 50% range but while the opening is good the expectations were of a much better opening. The business at multiplexes across North India was disappointing as some were even less than 50%.

Mumbai circuit has opened better than North India with Ahmedabad recording 90% collections and Pune also around 80-90% but North looks set to be below expectations as Delhi NCR and East Punjab had average start.

Overall the opening is good but not huge. The first day number should be good but probably not what a Salman Khan starrer should be doing today. It has no chance of reaching Ek Tha Tiger levels and the question is can it go over 20 crore nett or not. A lot depends how multiplexes fare through the day as business in single screens in most parts is very good.

BO update: ‘Jai Ho’ starts on a good note!
    By Taran Adarsh, January 24, 2014 – 13:56 IST

JAI HO, which marks the return of Salman Khan post a year-long hiatus [Salman’s last release was DABANGG-2 in 2012], has got off on a good note, with reports suggesting that the film has got an 80% to 100% opening in certain sectors. The single screens opened to a better response at single screens than most plexes. However, the film has had an extensive release, with plexes performing 15 to 20 shows every single day. At some plexes, the shows are more than 20 as well.

Although it’s a bit too early to estimate the opening weekend business, JAI HO should have a strong weekend, with business zooming high on Sunday, 26 January.

Shah Rukh Khan is fine, concentrate on Jai Ho: Salman Khan
    Mumbai, January 24, 2014

Daisy Shah says that her co-star Salman is often misunderstood by people.
    more photos »
Do not blow the news of Shah Rukh Khan’s injury out of proportion and focus on Jai Ho, which is releasing Friday, actor Salman Khan has said.

SRK suffered a minor injury on the Happy New Year set on Thursday, and within a few hours after seeking quick medical aid, he returned to the movie set.

The warring Khans of Bollywood recently kissed and made up and Salman tagged it as coincidence that SRK got inured just a day before the release of his film.

When asked about the SRK’s accident, Salman said: “This had to happen just before the release of Jai Ho? Don’t blow this news out of proportion.”

“Unke jaan pe hamla nahi hua hai (There was no mortal attack). He has not lost his memory… He is fine, so concentrate on Jai Ho. We just found out that he is fine, so we are happy,” Salman told reporters.

Shah Rukh Khan tweeted late on Thursday that he will undergo a few tests and may have sustained a few scars in the accident, but the tweet clearly meant that the king Khan is completely fine and in his best spirits.

Jai Ho Below Expectations At Multiplexes
    Friday 24 January 2014 15.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Jai Ha is remaining below expectations at multiplexes practically all over the country. The opening was not that strong at multiplexes in the morning and in the afternoon the film has seen collections at a similar level and even less at places.

The single screens are doing well but the sort of numbers expected from Jai Ho can’t come from just single screen doing good business, the multiplexes must do well as well.

The collections in Delhi city and East Punjab are pretty shocking considering the numbers the last few Salman Khan starrer’s have put up in these areas. Ek Tha Tiger saw record business while Dabangg was much closer to 3 Idiots in these areas than Mumbai. At the moment a 20 crore nett total is looking a tough ask for Jai Ho. It is almost certain to have lower first day figures than Bodyguard and Dabangg 2.

When the next movie of Bhai will release? 🙁

  7. rajesh 10 years ago

Hmm, not even 20 crs, might be first flop for Salman since Dabangg, but that was pretty obvious seeing the promos and advance. Night show booking seems better but still quite below in comparison to recent big movies.
    Law of averages always works.

  8. Ipman 10 years ago

looks like even the rickshawallas didnt show up for this

  9. Sanjeev Dhital 10 years ago

Looks like it will go even lower than my prediction of 145 crores. The low production value of the trailer suggested that the budget of the movie was lower than 30 crores (excluding Salman’s fee). But still I expected 21 crores on opening day… But multiplexes doing lower even than my lower expectations. I expected decent business in multiplexes but it is doing average business.
Lets hope it hits 120 crores and at least becomes a clean hit…
Sohail nai dubaya 6th blockbuster in a row…
Now Salman has to start from 1 again with Kick.

  10. narad_muni 10 years ago

1st day estimates for Jai HO –
It is coming shockingly low. I mean it’s well below 20 crores for sure.
It could be in the range of 16-17 crores. SHOCKING!

    ——————-
This is just a rough estimate. So, bhai fans, dont kill me if I am wrong

  11. narad_muni 10 years ago

Jai HO 1st day from BOI – 15 crores

Jai Ha has found it tough at the box office on day one. The multiplexes did not start that strongly and could not pick up while single screens started very well but at places there were cracks in the matinee and evening shows. It is cold in the North but still it should have collected much more.

It was pretty clear in the afternoon that 20 crore nett was a huge task and as the day comes to an end the collections for the film will be around the 15 crore nett range.

The film has suffered in the multiplexes with the lowest collections of a Salman Khan starrer since Wanted in 2009. The all India collections of films like Dabangg (2010) and Ready (2011) may remain lower when the final all India total of Jai Ho comes in but at multiplexes they recorded better collections. The film has been sold for huge prices in circuits where it has been sold and figures coming in from these circuits be it Rajasthan, West Bengal or CP Berar are not proportionate to the prices that distributors have paid.

boi is hinting at a flop verdict. 15 cr day 1 is indeed a drastically low number for salman who is supposedly at his peak in his fav genre. i wonder whats the road ahead for salman now given this kind of performance from a south remake

      • shan 10 years ago

Awesome! Let this one flop, so Sohail never returns to direction, so Sajid-Wajid are folded and packed away, so Salman doesnt attempt more idiotic, vapid South remakes (except Kick), so non-actors like Ashmit, Yash Tonk, Sunil Shetty dont return to the silver screen, so terrible actresses like Daisy Shah and Sana Khan dont get another chance. Serves Salman right for planning a stale film with a supposed message that got lost in the fights, songs, dialogues and crass comedy. Salman, sir, will say the same thing I had said after Bodyguard – time to reinvent self!

  14. mate 10 years ago

Bhai, Reinvent toh actors karte hain khud ko, non-actors nahi. 😉

    • shan 10 years ago

🙂 Agreed Salman is not a great actor, but he has shown glimpses of acting talent at times. He definitely deserves better than trash like Jai Ho and Bodyguard. Even a low scoring 70 Cr movie which is better made will do.

In one of the interviews during Jai Ho promotions, when someone suggested “Eros ki Raam Leela aur R…Rajkumar achi chal rahi hain theatres main. Hope aapki picture bhi acchi chale taaki Eros ko hattrick mile”, Salman replied “Agar ye do picture acchi hain, to dua karo ke meri picture acchi na ho, uss hisaab se.” Now that is rich coming from someone whose movies have virtually nothing to speak of except him strutting around in style. He is criticizing Raam Leela – chalo theek hai, he cant relate to it and its theme and its genre. But he is criticizing R..Rajkumar, which is the same genre as all his blockbuster films and saying hope isse achi ho. Guess what, usse buri hai! He needs to get out of his “This is what fans want” mode and do something different. The point has been made – he can and has made mediocre movies like Bodyguard and Ready and Dabangg 2 into blockbusters. Now he needs to move on to proving different points -maybe prove his detractors wrong that he cant act and cant carry off different roles. 🙂

  15. Sanjeev Dhital 10 years ago

now it could be less than 100 crores. Jai ho flop ho gaya.. may be average at best… Sohail ne sach me dubaya Salman ko.

  16. filmygyani 10 years ago

My friend said it is one of the better films of Salman but too much violence may keep families away. Might watch next week.

If it flops, it should trend worse than Besharam warna Salman ko Akal nahin aayegi. He also seems very tense about box office results.

    • shan 10 years ago

FS, problem is, even if it flops, Salman will blame the social message and seriousness aspect for it and conclude he needs to put in more masala, more entertainment in forthcoming movies. Frankly, the way that guy thinks about movies and expresses in interviews, scares me. He thinks Hello Brother is a cult film just like Andaz Apna Apna. He thinks people liked the emotional parts of Bodyguard, especially the end. He thinks Ek Tha Tiger couldnt go beyond 3 Idiots BO because it was too serious and not fun enough. All reasons why his movies are full of the same stuff, at varying degrees.

      • shan 10 years ago

FS, unfortunately, jiska dar tha, wahi hua, like I had expected in my comment above. Check out what “bhai” believes to be the reason of poor response to Jai Ho. He needs someone to put some sense into him, really.
        —————————
However, Salman believes that their effort at doing something different from their regular stuff might be a reason for people not thronging to the theatres.
“We have done something different, may be people were expecting something like ‘Dabangg’, ‘Ready’ like time pass film to enjoy. Some must have understood that ‘Jai Ho’ is not that kind of film, this is a serious film with a social message,” Salman said.

        https://pinkvilla.com/newstags/salman-khan/291418/salman-confused-jai-ho-response-business
        —————————-

Does he really believe that? Has he even seen any serious films with social message like RDB, Gangaajal or even the flawed but well-intentioned Halla Bol?

        • Ipman 10 years ago

agreed. and i am not surprised by salmans reasoning. he has always been like that. he is not sensible enough to take the right lessons from a failure/underperformance. moving on from jai ho, he will now make his next movie even more retarded, OTT and cheesy and will release it on a holiday and if by chance it makes more than this, he will very happy and satisfied with his decision.

          • Bored 10 years ago

LOL, maybe Salman will finally get it after Kick opens well on Eid.

    • shan 10 years ago

@it being one of the better Salman films : Doesnt matter, since his worse films made pots of money, so his better films will lose money to balance it out. That way, even Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Jaan-e-Mann were better than most of his blockbusters. Unfortunately, they did not make a lot of money.

    Jai Ho First Day Collections

    Saturday 25 January 2014 12.00 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Jai Ha grossed around 16-16.25 crore nett approx on day one which is a decent collection for day one on a non holiday if it was the normal Hindi film release but Jai Ho had a lot of expectations and was Salman Khan’s first release after more than a year.

The film has been let done by multiplex all over, the collections all over at multiplexes be it a big city like Delhi or a smaller one like Moradabad are not up to the mark. the single screens have done good to very good business but even here it not bumper like a some of Salman Khan’s other releases.

The best business for the film has come in Gujarat which has helped the Mumbai circuit outperform as compared to North India which is the opposite as compared to the likes of Dabangg and Ek Tha Tiger. The film should get a good jump on Sunday due to big holiday for Republic day but today (Saturday) may be tough for the film unless multiplexes improve and there is huge spare capacity for the film to do so.

But even if Saturday was to do well and Sunday show good jump it will still mean the first big film of 2014 has managed to score the way it should have..

    Jai Ho Second Day Business
    Sunday 26 January 2014 10.00 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Jai Ho had a small drop in business on its second day as it grossed around 16.50 crore nett taking its two day business to around 33.50 crore nett. The business was inmost circuits was similar to Friday with mass circuits being down as they did well on Friday.. The multiplex audience has not taken to the film as they did not gain a lot on Saturday despite being low on Friday

The performance at single screens is better but not outstanding. Sunday is a big holiday for Republic Day so the film should show a good jump.

Sunday is the acid test for Jai Ho and the jump has to be huge. Krrish 3 also suffered a bit in its first three days but showed a huge jump on its fourth day which was a national holiday and that is the sort of thing that is needed by Jai Ho to have a chance of being successful. The chances do look slim as Krrish 3 was hit by pre- diwali festivities in its opening few days but there is no such case here. The plus for the film is that Saturday did not fall a lot so it can’t be written off yet.

Jai Ho First Day Territorial Breakdown
    Saturday 25 January 2014 14.00 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

The final collections of Jai Ho came in at around 17.25 crore nett as Mumbai circuit gave a fair performance due to the Gujarat and Saurashtra belt. Maharashtra was also decent.

The performance is below par with collections which are around 2 crore nett less than the last Salman Khan starrer Dabangg 2 which collected a little over 19 crore nett. The biggest hope for the film is now a big jump on Sunday.

The biggest disappointment is the collections of the film in East Punjab and the Delhi NCR area. Below is the first day territorial breakdown of Jai Ho.

Jai Ho Does Very Well On Sunday
    Monday 27 January 2014 10.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Jai Ho had a good weekend thanks to very good business on Sunday which was a national holiday. The film collected 17 crore nett on Friday and 16 crore nett on Saturday and the Sunday total as per early estimates is around 25 crore nett.

This will give weekend figures of around 58 crore nett so despite the initial not quite being that great, the weekend is actually challenging to be the highest ever for a Salman Khan dstarrer epending on what the final total for Sunday is.

Dabangg 2 grossed 58.50 crore nett in three days while Ek That Tiger grossed 56 crore nett and the figures of Jai Ho are around the same as Dabangg 2 depending on the final Sunday total. The business on Sunday has meant that the film has a chance of doing well which did not look the case after the first two days. A lot is dependent on the Monday as the jury is still out on the appreciation of the film as it only did the sort of business it should have on the big holiday while the other two days were below the mark.

The territorial breakdown will be updated around 15.00 IST

    Jai Ho Weekend Collection Details
    Monday 27 January 2014 15.00 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Jai Ho grossed 58 crore nett approx over its first weekend. The business at multiplexes was only strong on Sunday which was a national holiday. The first two days at multiplexes left a lot to be desired.

The biggest question now is that is the growth on Sunday all to do with the national holiday or is there some appreciation for the content of the film. The next couple of days will be the deciding factor.

Jai Ho fared best in Mumbai as the Gujarat/Saurashtra belt did excellent business but quite a few circuits performed below par. Below is the first weekend territorial breakdown of Jai Ho.

chalo weekend acha ho geya 🙂

  31. dwnpiyush 10 years ago

60cr collections for a Non-Holiday weekend are pretty decent. Jan end has never been a good time for a big release… kids, teens, and adults, who are not done with their education, are all engaged with examinations and what not. In case of Jai Ho, the trailers and songs were underwhelming, and there was nothing much going for the film except Salman Khan. The film is basically a show-reel of Salman’s personality, charisma, honesty, and humane attitude. Basically an advertisement for being human.

I liked the film- saw it at Chandan. I would give it a 3.5 star rating. And I think no unbiased critic can give it less than 2.5 stars. It is entertaining, and has good intentions. Only thing is that it is too simplistic, and gives the impression of inconsistency- with so many known faces doing bits and pieces roles. Salman Khan is awesome in the film, both as an actor and as a star. Those who say he cannot act can continue and keep saying the same. Jai Ho.

I hope the film remains steady on the weekdays… after witnessing the reactions at Chandan when I saw it, I think it just might.

The promo was terribly cut- after looking at the film- I can safely say that they could have cut a 100 times better promo, which would have pulled in the multiplex crowd as well.

Ninja bhai – man mein laddoo foota? 😛

Btw, Monday will not do much more than 10 crores. Overall, 150 looks really difficult

    • Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

So isnt a movie with Sohail Khan as director doing 120-150cr >>>> director rohit shetty movie with another superstar?

      😛

(I mean THE Rohit Shetty + THE Deepika)

On another note, HNY should have chosen Christmas as release date. I dont know why SRK didnt do that (especially when the name of the movie itself suits the occasion. Maybe SRK is not interested in number game at all now and it on the way to Sanyas.). As a result Aamir took the opportunity and result is clear now (almost)

PK will trample HNY by doing almost double of it.

And this seals the deal for Aamir.

SRK fanatics said for years SRK “ruled” for a decade – 1995 – 2004.

Aamir will complete a decade of BO dominance over rest too with PK – 2005 – 2014.

  33. Bored 10 years ago

SRK was a major force between the period of 2002-2004(2-3 yrs) – he had a nice string of hits going before KANK ended it and others found their feet.

Same for Salman between Dabangg n Dabangg 2, again 2-3 years span. Jai Ho looks like Salman’s KANK. And competition is very tough now after CE. Krrish 3 and Dhoom 3.

Aamir with his 1 release in a yr was never on top like them – highest grosser or not.

    • Bored 10 years ago

SRK had 5 hits in between Devdas and Veer Zaara in those 2-3 yrs. And it was Swades that broke that run.
Salman also had 5 hits between D1 and D2.

Wake me up when Aamir does enuf work so as to give 5-6 hits over 3 years. Yawn.

Jai Ho Set For Fair Monday
    Monday 27 January 2014 22.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network
Jai Ho is looking at a fair Monday with collections set to be in the 8-9 crore nett region. The collections have dropped around 50% from Friday with single screens showing better trending

This business at multiplexes was only good on the big national holiday on Sunday and collections on Monday were again not up to the mark. It is the multiplex business in cities like Delhi. Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore which is holding the film back.

The film is probably looking at holding these mid level collections into the second weekend where there is a little competition. Even though theer is no competition this week, Monday is suggesting the lowest Salman Khan grosser since Veer in 2010 with the possibility of beating only Ready (120 cr) of his releases since Veer.

Jai Ho had respectable figures on Monday of around 9 crore nett as per early estimates. The film needed a bigger Monday to get towards that 150 crore nett total but 9 crore nett although not great is reasonable and less than 50% drop from Friday..

Jai Ho has now grossed around 67 crore nett in four days which is fair but due to the sort of initial business done by Dhoom 3 and Chennai Express higher figures are being expected today from big films like Jai Ho. The total for the week should go over 85 crore nett.

The film held up best in Mumbai circuit with Gujarat remaining strong. Also the film has a decent trend and has actually been let down by the opening. The figures on Sunday and Monday are better comparatively better than the numbers of Friday and Saturday. The film has limited competition on Friday so can put up healthy figures in week two.

Monday Collections – Salman Khan Starrers
    Tuesday 28 January 2014 10.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Jai Ho has grossed less on Monday than the big Salman Khan grossers like Ek Tha Tiger, Dabangg 2 and Dabangg. The collections are a bit better than his other big grosser Bodyguard but that had a Wednesday release and Monday was its fifth day.

The collections are also better than Ready but that film along with Dabangg is the best sustaining film of Salman Khan in his hit run over the last 3 years. Below are the Monday figures of the last few Salman Khan starrers.

    1. Ek Tha Tiger – 18,96,00,000 (Holiday)

    2. Dabangg 2 – 11,43,00,000

    3. Dabangg – 10,68,00,000

    4. Jai Ho – 9,00,00,000 approx

    5. Bodyguard – 8,64,00,000

    6. Ready – 8,03,00,000

This is a harsh reality that from the beginning of his career till 2005, Aamir remained a second-fiddle star just like Emraan Hashmi is now-a-days. So comparison between the ‘Hits’ of a B-grade star with A-grade star is totally illogical, because the bar for giving a ‘Hit’ movie for A-grade star is much higher than that of a B-grade star, still interms of number of Hits, Aamir was miles behind SRK in that given period. For example, in 1995, Aamir’s ‘Hit’ film Rangeela did less business than SRK’s Average grosser Ram Jaane. In 1998, Aamir’s ‘Hit’ movie Ghulam did less business than SRK’s flop Dil Se, In 1999, Aamir’s ‘Hit’ film Sarfarosh did less business than SRK’s ‘Flop’ Baadshah and there are several other instances. It was only in 2006, when Aamir gave an entrance to A-listed stars, when his Rang De Basanti did 51 cr, that hardly matches SRK ‘under-performed’ Don (52 cr). But because of an ‘off-beat’ theme, RDB got appreciation from all over. In 2007, Aamir gave TZP that was his movie as a director but not as an actor, though his star power certainly added value to it, which was further helped by tax exemption so it did 62 cr business, while at the same year, SRK gave 67 cr grosser in an identical genre and an 80 cr grosser in a commercial genre.
So, it’s crystal clear that from early 90s to 2007, Aamir had never been at the top, nor at no. 2 or 3, 4 or 5, because you need consistency to hold a top slot. If Sunny Deol gave Gaddar once in decade, it will not reach him to top at once. That formula is applicable in cricket and here too. Even after Ghajini, Aamir did not attain top slot, and BOI star ranking over the years is evident of the fact, that If anybody after Dilip Kumar and Amitabh who ruled the maximum number of years is one and only SRK. And it was only at the end of 2009 when Aamir gain top slot, and he held it for 3 years. While SRK maintained his top slot for more than 15 years. He is the only star who is capable of giving highst grossers in his lowest phase (his ‘flop’ Ra.One did almost the same as another star’s blockbuster Ready), he is the only star who gave multiple 100 cr grossers in domestic and 200 cr grossers worldwide in his dull period, he is the only star who can never be a 2nd fiddle star while each of his contemporaries passed atleast a decade at that stage. Where are those bloody people who bad mouthed Ra.One, see your favourite star’s movie is struggling to attain Ra.One figure after 3 years. And those who are boasting about highest grossers of their favourite star that’s more a franchise power than any thing else, do you forget that period of 17 years of disgrace, and now you are talking about stardom. Aukaat hai nahi aur stardom ki baat karte hai.

      @mate

Sunny’s movie name was Gadar and not Gaddar.

Emotions ziyada ho gaye the aapke shayad .. so you misspelled it 😉 . Cool down man.

    • Bored 10 years ago

BOI rankings, numbers and verdicts are all hogwash targeted at either fanatics or retards (ur choice).

However, I do agree that Aamir was more of a B-grade star in nineties and the bar for his success was a lower one (like today’s Ajay n Akshays whose 100-150 cr will be considered good by all).

      • Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

Would like to compare Ajay or Akshay in 90s in Aamir’s terms – do they have a JJWS , Sarfarosh or a AHAT/DHKMN ?- or leave critical acclaim aside – do they have a RH?

oh leave aside an All time Blockbuster …do they have a AAA?

        • Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

All in all what entertains me is the fact that people who rubbish BO collections of a movie calling it a third grade / pathetic movie – rubbishing the movie .. speaking about BO collections and advocating the stars of those to be “A grade”. (where is the discussion about critical acclaim gone then? which you were advocating so far?)

Standing up for one star when another is being more talked about is an old habit for some here. And talking about “grade” indicates a lot about social aspect and mentality of these – which I should not point to.

    • Bored 10 years ago

As for critical acclaim – Akshay has done movies like Special 26, Oh My God, Sangharsh, Khakee, Hera Pheri.

Ajay had done Omkara, Apaharan, Raincoat, Yuva, Khakee, Gangajal, Bhagat Singh, Company, Lajja, Kachche Dhaage, etc.

So Ajay and Akshay are at same level as the Khans today? Seriously …

    Jai Ho Tuesday Business
    Wednesday 29 January 2014 10.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Jai Ho had a noticeable drop on Tuesday as it grossed around 7.25 crore nett taking the five day total to a little over 74 crore nett. The first week will finish around 85 crore nett as the next two days should add around 11 crore nett with a 15% drop on each day.

The second weekend is very important for it to put up a good to decent final total. A 150 crore nett total is out of the question however the film is in a better position than the first two days where the film looked heading towards a little over 100 crore.

There is just film One By Two releasing this week and that will not be much competition so that Friday total and Saturday growth will tell where the second week is going. At the moment the film is trending towards a similar total like Ready but a big Saturday and Sunday this week can take it higher than Ready which grossed 120 crore nett approx.

Why doesnt great BOI give the prices that sub-distributors paid for Jai Ho? With 125 cr it will be like RaOne – most sub-distributors in red.

    • Bored 10 years ago

Anyways those who say RaOne was a box office hit (with most of its sub-distributors in red) need not wait for 120 cr for Jai Ho. If RaOne was hit, Jai Ho already is a Hit (be it at 60 cr or 70 cr or 120 cr).

bored yahi mai keh raha hu ,.agar ra1 jthj hit he to jaiho bhi hit

        • Bored 10 years ago

To be fair to Salman – after the dust settles Sohail/Arbaaz will re-compensate the sub-distributors with some part of their table profit (production cost isnt much here). Happens with all under-performers.

But all these happens much later and any movie should be judged from what its pre-release expectations are, and not post release adjustments that are done to cover up under-performance.

I tend to label all such films as ‘coverage/recovery’. However, the problem is when a biased source will call one such under-performer as ‘hit’ but will label another similar case as ‘flop’.

The problem is not with such obvious prejudices – but those who swear by such ridiculous sources.

  47. dwnpiyush 10 years ago

Salman walks the talk. He is the peoples man. Just checked Bookmyshow for the first time since Jai Ho released. The weekday ticket prices in Mumbai multiplexes are astoundingly low. Prime properties selling tickets a Rs. 70, 100, 120, 150, 180, 200… I have lived in Mumbai and have frequented those plexes at 150% to 200% of the Jai Ho prices. Yes, Jai Ho hasn’t performed up to expectations, that no one is denying and can deny. But to term it is a failure is a bit rich, coming especially from SRK fans. Chennai express ki wajah se ucchal rahe hain. But bhool gaye hain ki festive releases such as Don 2 and JTHJ just about managed to reach 100-110 Cr. Both both were films from established (rather top) directors and banners, both had big established heroines. Jai Ho has released in a dry period and is riding on just Salman Khan. Even the story is a homage to Salman’s off screen image and personality.

Some here are saying he is a non actor agree he is an ordinary actor with great personality but surprisingly fans of an irritating over actor are saying all this

  49. mate 10 years ago

Did I say he is an ordinary actor, this is an insult to ordinary actors. I clearly said that he is a non-actor and now with capital letters I repeat He’s utterly and absolutely a NON-ACTOR. Now you can agree with me. And when he will give a fraction of any of these performances of that irritating over actor like Baazigar, KHKN, DDLJ, Asoka, Swades, Paheli, CDI, MNIK then tell me I will suicide. Filhaal comparison k liye, Kisi bhi genuine movie critic ya kisi un-biased viewer se poch lo k Asoka aur Veer main konsa class act hai aur konsa chutiyapa. But that scene in Veer when he said ‘Yeh mere dada ji ki talwar hai’ was a epic no doubt. 😉

    • Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

But then comparing Bruhannada with Bheem is unfair. Isn’t it?

    • Dhamaka 10 years ago

Ok i agree that he is a non actor but you being a fanatic dont have courage to say this that your favorite is an extremely over actor 😀 thing is when over actor doesn’t ham it is considered as a great act by his fans 😉 and why choosing different films why dont you pick Karan arjun where so called great actor is over-shadowed by a non actor.Bhai hur zamane mein ek Namoona hit ho he jata hai jaise ke rajesh khanna aur Dev Ananad thay tou kya unko actor maan lain hum ? Q. Is Aamir Khan the real superstar now as he is the only one to take a big opening without backing of a holiday with Dhoom 3?

Ans. Dhoom 3 may not have a had a holiday but the film had around 125 crore spend on the just the production side of the film as compared to the 45 crore production spend on Jai Ho. When ticket rates are so high the audience will only come in numbers if they feel they are getting their tickets worth. Salman Khan is still the biggest star but his films have to be grander like Ek Tha Tiger rather than Jai Ho types if the record numbers are to come in.

    J. Kumar

    Q. Is the business of Jai Ho super hit in single screens and average multiplexes?

Ans. Its not super hit in single screens, just better comparatively, normally for a big commercial film its a 65/35% divide in favour of multiplexes, here the single screen ratio will got 40% or higher.

    M. Ali

    Q. What was the final business of Sholay 3D?

    Ans. Around 10 crore nett

    R Navera

    Q. What was the budget of Jai Ho?

Ans. The film cost around 65 crore including marketing and prints but this is without Salman Khan remuneration but was purchased at a sky high price by its main distributor and even higher prices by various distributors in the circuits. The film probably had the highest table profit ever.

Jai Ho – Blockbuster Prices But Semi Hit – Hit Business
    Thursday 30 January 2014 12.00 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Jai Ho has turned out an expensive proposition for all its investors. The film is basically heading for semi hit to hit business but has been sold at blockbuster prices. The film was sold to Eros International at a huge rate and Eros International managed to off load some circuits at even bigger prices.

The prices that the film fetched in circuits like West Bengal, Bihar, Nizam/Andhra and Rajasthan were around 10-15% less than the business of Ek Tha Tiger. The prices do indicate the craze for Salman Khan as no film has ever fetched such high prices.

Jai Ho had to do an 85 crore all India distributor share for these distributors just to cover but at the moment the film looks to be heading for a 60-70 crore distributor share depending on what happens over the next ten days or so.

The makers probably made the highest table profit in history (in region of 100 crore) due to these inflated prices as its not a very expensive film in terms of making but the market misjudged by thinking that star power could take the film to safety and if the film gets accepted then profits would be come.

Star power is sometimes enough with the help of holidays falling on the right days but with such high prices you also need help from the product which is not quite up to the mark going by its trend. Or possibly a better way to put it is the product is not upto the mark its investors expected as collections are good for the amount of money spent to make the film.

Jai Ho Drops Further On Wednesday
    Thursday 30 January 2014 15.00 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Jai Ho dropped further on Wednesday with collections around 5.25-5.50 crore nett. The collections on Monday were decent but it has seen rapid falls over the next two days and is now sure to collect less than 85 crore nett in its first week.

Its not a good sign for the second week as with these falls on Tuesday and Wednesday, a second week total of 30 crore nett or near that looks impossible. A 30 crore nett second week would have given the film a good final total.

The only plus for the film is lack of competition this week but even that can only help so much with collections dropping at this rate. The collections at single screens are also not holding up that well.

Why should I commit suicide when he got Screen Award for that role!! But keeping aside the Jury’s decision, my personal view is that yes, it was one of his weaker performances.
Ab tum kaho ge k yeh awards sub fake hain, paid hain kyun k tumhare favourite star k paas yeh nahi hai. Bhai awards koi bhi ho popular ho ya critic’s, sab k liye ek shart hona lazmi hai, wo shart hai actor hone ki, jo tumhara favourite star na tha, na hai aur na agle 7 janam main ban sake ga.
But I don’t want to argue with you on this topic any more. Because ap to apne aadmi ho. 😉
And courtesy to Ninja for reminding me his act in Darr, that’s a role of ‘once in a decade’. I must say that was one his most spontaneous act. The intensity, vulnerability and rawness he showed in that character is rarely seen in Indian Cinema. Thanks Ninja bhai for reminding me of those sweet memories of early 90s.

Jai Ho Has Ninth Highest First Week Of All Time
    Friday 31 January 2014 12.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Jai Ho had the ninth highest first week of all time as it grossed 83 crore nett in its first week. The film was decent on Monday but started to drop pretty fast from Tuesday onwards. The drops were pretty much universal

The first week is in the same range as Dabangg which was released nearly four years ago and was the start of Salman Khan’s phenomenal run at the box office. The business is less than 50% of what Dhoom 3 did in its first week.

Jai Ho has not done the expected business anywhere, Gujarat/Saurashtra is better than the rest of the country but even here the business is not fantastic and can be called good at best. Delhi/UP, East Punjab, West Bengal and Mysore even struggled with opening collctions.

One By Two Has Dull Start Jai Ho Drops
    Friday 31 January 2014 14.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

One By Two had a dull start with collections in the 10% range. Some multiplexes in Delhi city were slightly better but overall the opening hardly gives the film a chance. Collections in the Delhi/NCR area should be best.

If we compare with some other January releases then the opening morning collections were better than Mr. Joe B. Carvalho but less than Dedh Ishqiya so the first day figure should be somewhere in between these two films.

Meanwhile Jai Ho had dropped considerably on its second Friday with collections around 80% lower than the comparative figures on its opening day. This is despite the new release taking a weak start, it will still be the top film this weekend but collections seem set to be on the lower side.

    Jai Ho Second Friday Business
    Saturday 01 February 2014 11.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Jai Ho grossed around 3 crore nett on its second Friday which is more than 80% down on last Friday. The total is now around 86 crore nett in eight days and the way the film is going it won’t make it to 100 crore in before the weekend is out unless collections double up either on Saturday or Sunday.

The film did not take a bumper opening but the the big holiday collections gave it a chance of a good total if it managed to sustain but that has not been the case.

The second week practically being an open week has not helped much. Jai Ho is now looking at a finish of around 110 crore nett which means the lowest Salman Khan grosser in the last three years.

95 cr is done iss week ke end tak 100 cross ho jane hai pakka se … 5-7 cr will happen in rest of time seeing the way its trending

58 weekend ke baad almost 50 cr more will be added , can it happen with disaster or bad wom .. NO WAYS …. Besharam went from 19 to 7 on its second day Bt Jai ho didnt went to such level even after 3 good to very good days(friday -sunday) with monday being 9 plus crore and even tuesday being 7 Plus ….

For me Jai ho was 65-70 cr and final of 140-150 cr as expectations – Trade was over expecting like they did for khiladi 786 , Besharam ….. yes Jai ho has done below expectations bt it is no way having disaster or Bad WOM …

    Sunday 02 February 2014 13.00 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Jai Ho grossed around 4.25-4.50 crore nett on its second Saturday taking its total to nearly 7.50 crore for the two days in the second week and 90 crore nett overall.

The business is down in circuits like West Bengal and Mysore while the mass belts of CPCI and Rajasthan are holding better. The jump on the second Saturday is good but when a film is really doing well it tends to show a better jump especially when collections are not that high.

Sunday should seen a good jump and business for the second weekend can go to around 13-14 crore nett if a good jump materialises. Still it is a mediocre total in the second weekend for a film with such huge expectations.

Jai Ho Grosses 95 Crore Plus In Ten Days
    Monday 03 February 2014 11.00 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Jai Ho collected 13.50 crore nett in its second weekend taking its ten day figure to a little over 95 crore nett. The fact that even after ten days it has not yet crossed 100 crore nett is disappointing. The second weekend saw a drop in collections of 75% plus.

The film will have crossed 100 crore by the time the second week is over but it is not sustaining so a 110 crore nett total looks out of reach and the distributor share will not go much higher than 60 crore nett.

The film showed growth on Saturday and Sunday but the drops in mid week had done the damage as the film ended up with a low second Friday and growth from there was a bit irrelevant for a film with such huge expectations.

A movie that is struggling to even double its opening weekend collections is obviously having poor WOM. Lets not live in denial.

Kick is a goner too. It may have better production values than Jai Ho, but with Sajid Nadiadwala at the helm, it will end up being ghost directed by Salman. With another unexciting actress opposite him and with Himesh giving the music, looks all set to be another third-class movie from Salman. The movie is already expensive with all the UK visa problems delaying shoot and will turn out to be an expensive proposition for Nadiadwala. Not to mention the story itself is ordinary and Salman cannot get away with playing the young/middle aged lover boy anymore.

talkingmoviez.com is now talking about non holiday opening. What happened all these days when some actors were getting big grossers due to holidays.

Also, the biggest non holiday season first week before jai ho is yjyd released in 2013 and then ram leela becasue of inflation. Then its rr.Shows that khans are getting big grossers due to holiday season releases. When their film releases in non holiday season their real star power will be known.

And this shows Akshay is the biggest star.

Now people are talking with knowledge, sensibly.I have argued this all along.

Eid/Christmas releases had surely helped Salman to break and set opening records. But he also has much greater pull with his lowbrow movies than an Akshay or an Ajay.

LOL, Sunil. I dont endorse the kind of movies Salman is doing these days, but comparing him with Akshay Kumar in terms of plain star-power or crowd-pulling ability is sacrilege. Just look at the numbers man. A well-appreciated Akki starrer like Rowdy Rathore did 130 cr, whereas a well-appreciated Salman starrer like Dabangg did 140 cr. But Akki’s flops like Boss, Khiladi 786, Once Upon a Time a Monstrosity, Desi Boyz are all pretty much washouts, scoring in the 60-70 cr range, whereas an underappreciated Salman starrer like Jai Ho, still does 110 cr. Compare the other movies in that BO range – Race 2, Raam Leela, Don 2, Singham – all were considered superhits. Just because a Salman starrer comes with huge expectations these days, 110 cr from Jai Ho is a major underperformance.

Agree that all stars benefit from holidays and hence manage big grossers but its not like Akki doesnt have the choice or chance. He tried with OUATIMD and messed up. He had tried before with Tees Maar Khan and messed up then too. Today, I would hardly call Akki a star, let alone the biggest star. He is somewhat like Salman in that he uses his clout to get the most lousiest films made (except Special 26 and OMG) but he doesnt have the star power to make those lousy films earn at the BO. There was a time when he managed that with Singh Is Kingg but as always with Akki, that was shortlived. He has always followed up a Welcome with a Chandni Chowk to China and a Rowdy Rathore with a Joker. Yes, he does more films but that is his choice. For that matter, even if you compare Special 26 with Jai Ho, Special 26 is a far superior film with fantastic performances from the entire cast and it had great acclaim as well as WOM, but still wrapped up in the 60 cr range. Jai Ho is a terrible film with bad direction, bad acting and avg-negative WOM, and yet managed to do 110 cr. Even if you take the 25 cr made on Republic Day Sunday out and replace it with a normal Sunday, say 18 cr, it would still have made 100+ cr. The numbers dont lie dude. 🙂

Jai Ho Grosses 101.50 Crore In Two Weeks

Jai Ho crossed the 100 crore nett mark in midweek to take its business to around 101.50 crore nett as it crossed around 19.75 crore nett in its second week. The film was good second week in UP due to the tax exemption but even with tax exemption collections were less than most of the big films of 2013.

The performance of the film is very weak in West Bengal, the film was sold for 4.50 crore in the circuit and the lifetime share is looking to be just around 2.50 crore. Assam and Orrisa were a similar story due to huge prices paid by the distributors and recovery not even touching 50%.

The film has a huge reduction of screenings at multiplexes this week and will see a big drop at multiplexes with single screens still doing better as there is no replacement as yet. The lifetime business of the film is looking to be 107-108 crore nett.

Jai Ho Ends Salman Khan Run – Second Best Of All Time

    6

The second best run ever by a male lead in terms of consecutive major hits in the history of Hindi came to an end with Jai Ho. Prior to Jai Ho Salman Khan had five back to back blockbusters in a run lasting around 30 months.

This run is only bettered by a run by Rajesh Khanna which lasted 15 months from October 69 till February 71 which consisted of 9 consecutive major hits including six blockbuster/super hit films There have been other runs where male leads have given 5-6 consecutive hits but these two runs stand out in magnitude.

The run by Rajesh Khanna was phenomenal and the Salman Khan run is also extraordinary because its unlikely that five hits like this will be given by anybody in a span of 30 months again. It could happen again but not in a short 30 month span. It can also be said that it is easier for big stars to give big hits today as it has a lot to do with initial while 40 years back a film had to run 25 weeks in around 8-10 centres to be a big hit so the initial factor was less but then today there is competition from other forms of entertainment which probably equals things out.

The law of averages also say these things come to an end although distributors thought differently as they had pegged Jai Ho as the sixth consecutive blockbuster of Salman Khan going by what they paid but it was not to be. The Rajesh Khanna run was ended by a film called Mehboob Ki Mehndi which was his most expensive film till that date and the Salman Khan run came to an end with Jai Ho which fetched the highest prices of any Salman Khan starrer till date or for that matter highest prices for any star.

    Q. Is not the Shahrukh Khan run of the last few years the best of all time?

Ans. Its a good run but does not compare with the run of Salman Khan over last three years and not even close to Rajesh Khanna as there are not many blockbusters. the magnitude of the films is much smaller.
