Insidious Movie Review by Sputnik

From the makers of Paranormal Activity, INSIDIOUS is the terrifying story of a family who, shortly after moving, discovers that dark spirits have possessed their home and that their son has inexplicably fallen into a coma. Trying to escape the haunting and save their son, they move again only to realize that it was not their house that was haunted.

The movie starts off with the usual cliched trope of most horror movies – a family moving into a new house and the attic is filled with stuff (probably from the previous owner). The kid goes into the attic by himself without the parents being aware of it.

But what happens afterwards is different from the usual horror movies. The kid inexplicably goes into a coma and strange things start happening in the house. Unlike other horror movies they do move out of the house only to realize that it was not the house that was haunted.

Will vanishing and being stuck in the Upside Down from Stranger Things is definitely inspired from Dalton being stuck in the Farther.

Patrick Wilson was very good as Josh Lambert. Rose Byrne was excellent as Renai Lambert. Barbara Hershey was good as Josh’s mother. Ty Simpkins was good as Dalton Lambert. Lin Shaye was good as the demonologist Elise. The rest of the cast was good too. Leigh Whannell, who is also the writer was good as Specs. Angus Sampson was good as Tucker.

The story by Leigh Whannell is very good and the direction by James Wan is excellent. The movie builds up a scary tense atmosphere and there are enough jump scares. The ending is very good too. Insidious is excellent and is one of the best horror movies ever.

Highly Recommended
