Here is the song Rasputin by Boney M. Pritam supposedly bought the rights. This song was also the inspiration for “Sachi Yeh Kahaani Hai” from Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. That song also copied the song ‘In Zaire’.

‘”Rasputin” is a 1978 disco hit single by the Germany-based pop and disco group Boney M., the second single off their hugely successful album Nightflight to Venus. The song is a semi-biographical song whose subject and namesake is Grigori Rasputin, a friend and advisor of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia and his family during the early 20th century. The song variously sensationalizes Rasputin as a playboy, mystical healer, and political demiurge.

“Rasputin” is also distinctive for its incorporation of melody lines from a Serbian (“Ruse kose curo imaš”) and Turkish (“Üsküdar’a Gider İken / Kâtibim”) folk song, while the spoken line “Oh, those Russians” at the end of the song mimics a line in Eartha Kitt’s recording of “Kâtibim”.’

    Pritam’s official remake

Music composer Pritam Chakraborty has been ‘inspired’ by many international songs while composing tunes for Hindi films. And finally, the composer has the official remake right of Boney M’s chartbuster Rasputin.

Producers Illuminati Films and Eros International have decided to add the famous tune to their upcoming venture Agent Vinod. the song titled I’ll Do The Talking has been sung by Neeraj Shridhar and Aditi Singh Sharma.

Speaking to Mumbai Mirror about this latest addition to his Agent Vinod soundtrack, Pritam revealed, “We have taken the rights of Boney M’s Rasputin. However, our song is based more on the Serbian folk song Ruse Kose Curo Imas. Even Rasputin draws inspiration from this song. A Turkish folk song Uskudar’a Gider Iken also has the same melody. Famous Bengali poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s song Shukno Paatar Noopur Paaye is also based on this folk tune.”

Interestingly, the song Rasputin had inspired a very famous Shah Rukh Khan number earlier. The song, Sachchi Yeh Kahaani Hai about the life of a goon in Kundan Shah’s 1993 film Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa was sung in a nightclub.

In Agent Vinod too, the Rasputin rendition will be part of a nightclub sequence. “In the movie, Agent Vinod goes for a investigation to a nightclub in Moscow. This song would be playing there. We decided that the song should have an universal appeal,” informed the music composer.

When contacted, Shridhar Subramaniam, the President of India and Middle East, Sony Music, said, “The song Rasputin by legendary band Boney M has been an all time favourite. We are delighted that this song will now get a fresh lease of life. This Indian adaptation will now be a part of the much-awaited Agent Vinod. We are confident that this adaptation will top the charts just like the original did.”

The lyrics of the song penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya interestingly, has striking similarities to the evergreen hit Dum Maaro Dum. For example, a line goes: Kash Maar Ke Uda de Zindagi Ke Saare Gham. Only composers don’t draw inspiration, now do they?’

I seriously want this film to do extremely well. I loved KURBAAN which was undeserving failure. AV’s budget is worry for the film. The film should’ve something interesting to draw in the audience.

Hey Sanki, same feelings here ,just hope Sriram Raghavan has not bargained out his vision just to make it more acceptable . I seriously loved his job in Ek Hasina Thi , JG & i hope he maintained the same level of aesthetics in this film too.

Yeah Rex. Sriram is talented. But when these directors pick up big stars, they automatically fall under the trap of concentrating on big moolah, rather than content.

Old folk song from south-eastern Serbia from the town of Vranje, “Ruse kose curo imaš”. Boney M used the melody form this old folk song.
