For some reason I never liked his batting. His contribution to India rise can not be denied but I think he survived in initial years becuase he was batting when Tendulkar was in full form. I use to cringe when opposition bowlers deliberately use to bowl on his leg side and he basically was batless. He improved with years on leg; his offside strokes were treat to watch though.
How can a person scrore 10K runs in ODI cricket and be one of the most successful ODI batsman even because somebody other (Tendulkar) was in full form? Care to explain?
Also, Dada had better performance (records) than Tendu in few years when he was in top form.
Batting aside, his contribution to Indian cricket is immense.. he brought about the big change in attitude of Indian cricketers and showed them to fight fire with fire!

However, he is embarrassing his fans like myself by continuing to play in IPL 😉

Agree with the above and also that he should stop playing in IPL.
I think he almost overshadowed Sachin for a few years. He sped to 17 hundreds in no time. I think he had a weakness for the short ball and the one bouncer rule caused his batting decline.

Seen him bat too many times during college days….But below is his batting record in one day..look at strike rate, it improves but he was the main beneficiary of Tendulkar fast scoring..He use to play extermely slow and usually he use to make 70 runs using 120 balls…
