  3. aryan 10 years ago

I liked The Karate Kid Movie Too have a look this scenes

    • Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

Lol, coincidently I talked about Karate Kid same time (other comment). I prefer older version training except for that “put on the jacket” scene in newer one.

  4. Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

The other day I was watching Karate Kid (old) and I liked the training scenes in that. They are not dramatic as these but different – I didnt like the fact that they reduced Jackie Chan’s role in new Karate Kid. In older one there is more character development / his back-story etc.

    • Ipman 10 years ago

karate kid old is a masterpiece. Jackie Chan was good in the new one but the old one was better in philosophical aspects of the martial arts.

      • Anjanpur685Miles 10 years ago

Yep, that scene is fantastic – and the build up to that is lovely.

      • aryan 10 years ago

I didn’t see Old Karate Kid love to see soon.

    Very good post @baba-ji

Watched without audio as I dont have my earphones with me. Will watch with audio and comment in detail later.

I would have preferred the iconic training sequence from Rocky though.

CDI had good training scenes but could not find them online.

Miracle had this excellent training/punishment scene.

Remember the Titans and Coach Carter had some good training scenes too. Will post them later.

    • Ipman 10 years ago

thanks. all the training scenes of rocky are great just like every scene of 36th chamber of shaolin! I chose scenes which had some interesting regimes and not the usual running and weight trainings. CDI training scene is good.will check miracle scene

    baba ji,

    superb post!
I find the rocky training scenes most inspirational… I can watch them again and again and still get goosebumps

In my childhood days, my favorites were Bloodsport and 36th chamber of shaolin and also loved the scene from Jigar ..LOL

    • Ipman 10 years ago

Thanks muni 😀 yes each of those scenes inspire us. Jigar scene is great though its a mishmash of scenes from kickboxer, bloodsport , snake in the eagles shadow, rocky 2 but what a good source of inspiration! 😉 copy karo to aisi films se karo

Btw, if one can find the Iconic scene of Dev Anand training Aamir for Awwal Number – please post here. I was trying to find for long time but couldn’t find. Its ultimate hilarious scene in this category.

    • Ipman 10 years ago

i can think of many funny training scenes. Chandarchur in that arshad warsi low budget film, forgot its name. salman in jagruti. his brother sohail khan doing his own version of rocky in aryan 😀

The JJWS scene where Ayesha Jhulka is counting and Aamir cycling is inspired from this scene from Breaking Away.

    • Ipman 10 years ago

definitely inspired but a good inspiration for a change 😉 JJWS was clearly ahead of its time. even the training scenes in it are progressive than its cheap imitation of 2012 soty, let alone the other cinematic sensibleness.its my fav aamir film

      • sputnik 10 years ago

Yes JJWS is a very good movie even though it is inspired. One of my all time favorite movies and have watched it many times. Can watch the last cycle race scene any number of times which I posted as Scene of the Week (Link).

Here is my comment on Breaking Away and JJWS after watching Breaking Away recently.

If SOTY is the standard, then JJWS shud b called great. But that is a ridiculously low standard to start with. What people forget is that Aamir’s movies in nineties (almost all of which worked critically or at box-office) were adaptations of some Hollywood movie or another.

So yes, compared to Bollywood’s low standards those movies seem to be more sensible – specially becoz back then, so-called critics were not much exposed to the originals. Hollywood is more accessible today, so the same imitations are no longer looked up as some ‘prestige’ or ‘progressive’ to that extent.

          • filmygyani 10 years ago

By the time CDI released, critics and normal people were exposed to Hollywood films and still it is All Time Favorite of Many. Both may be definitely heavily inspired but both are extremely likable movies.

          • Ipman 10 years ago

yes but this is not a case of bad imitation like dhoom 3 or ghajini. this is not a bastardised version! I think jjws was not melodramatic , cheesy or manipulative in its story or dialgues. the conversations were normal and the characters relatable.Baaki zyaada oriignality bw se expect mat hi karo. idhar kuch hone waala nahi hai

          • Bored 10 years ago

CDI hardly enjoys the kind of reverence that JJWS still enjoys critically. Its how the narrative is set. Just bcoz SRK did one CDI in between tens of his regular stuff, does not make it a ‘classic’. Maybe for SRK fans yes. But not on a broader term. JJWS is also one of the cult-youth movies that gave shape to Aamir’s subsequent career.

          • Bored 10 years ago

@Baba – Agree that Aamir used to copy much better back then. Ghajini and D3 i think is senility. 🙂

          • FS 10 years ago

Bored, how do you gauge that CDI does not enjoy the reverence that JJWS enjoys? Why do you generalize your opinion on everyone?

  10. Bored 10 years ago

Becoz i wasnt getting my diapers changed at the time JJWS. I had read what the critics were saying back then, while some still dont read reviews here. But then everyone has an opinion – just like everyone has an asshole. Difference is that some are clean, while some are not.

Aamir fans shud love this one!

This is my personal favourite training scene from Batman Begins

    • Ipman 10 years ago

yes this is my favourite scene from Batman Begins. But this one is more about the philosophical aspects of a Ninja/ Vigilante than actual training. There is excessive usage of close body shots and shaking of camera which made the training look obscure .I think it was intentional on the part of the director to hide more than reveal as both bale and nesson dont have any background in sports/ martial arts

  12. Saurabh 10 years ago

Strange coincidence Aman. I was going to post the BB scene as well few days ago. It’s really different than the other scenes posted. The one thing that differentiates BB from the other two following TDK trilogy films is the close quarters shaky cam action and the quick editing. You don’t see that in both TDK and TDKR. Nolan wanted Batman to develop his unique fight technique and so they went with Keysi Fighting Method. Also helps that you have to use your elbows and fists more than kicks. (a relief for actors not experienced with martial arts. Add to it the limitations imposed on leg movement by the Batsuit)

Interesting trivia regarding the ice sheet swordfight. They were on real location (Iceland) and the ice cracked as they fought each other. Both the actors then stopped for few seconds as the rumble died down and resumed the action. Next day they went there and found that the ice had melted away.

    • Ipman 10 years ago

I dont know about tdk and tdkr but in BB scene, it is ninjutsu which he is being trained in.

” Also helps that you have to use your elbows and fists more than kicks” this technique needs tremendous hand speed but the batman fights are all very slow. wing chun is a classic example of a fight style which has almost no kicks. But it is known for its ultra speed which is why it works.

  13. Saurabh 10 years ago

The Batman fight scenes were fast in BB whereas in the following ones, he’s slow. That’s more to do with the frantic editing than actual speed as the batsuit restricted Bale’s movements. Nolan’s my favorite writer-director, but the Hong Kong fight scene in TDK when Batman tackles Lau and his cronies was one of the worst directed fight scenes in recent times. It’s like Lau was waiting for Batman to hit him and you can make that out. But I loved the brutality and the heavy handed style of Batman vs Bane round one. It’s one of my favourite action scenes and one of the best comicbook moments brought to life. Nolan’s uneven when it comes to directing hand to hand combat scenes. That’s one of criticisms in action movies I kind of agree with.
