Dog Day Afternoon Movie Review by Sputnik

The incredible true story of a man (Al Pacino) who robs a bank to pay for his lover’s sex change operation is immortalized in this pitched tale of crime by desperation.

Wanted to watch this movie since a very long time as it is a Oscar nominated movie and Al Pacino was also nominated for an Oscar for his performance.

Loved it. Excellent movie. Sidney Lumet’s direction was excellent. Great bank robbery movie. The tension and the chaos with all the cops was so brilliantly captured.

Dog Day Afternoon was deservedly nominated for 5 Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Editing. It deservedly won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. I think the movie was unlucky in that One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest released the same year. Otherwise Dog Day Afternoon would have definitely won the Oscar for Best Picture and Best Director.

Al Pacino was excellent as Sonny. He deservedly was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor. I think he would have won the Oscar that year if Jack Nicholson did not have One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest that year.

John Cazale was excellent as Sal. Charles Durning was excellent as Sergeant Eugene Moretti. James Broderick was very good as Agent Sheldon. Chris Sarandon was excellent too as his wife but its surprising to know that he was also nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role as his role was very small. The rest of the cast was excellent too.

Highly Recommended
