Synopsis
The most painful goodbyes are the ones that are never said and never explained. This film is a story about Raj (Shah Rukh Khan), Meera (Kajol) and their enchanting relationship that travels through years of hatred for each other. Set in a vicious and violent environment, Raj and Meera deal with the conflict between their respective families and the repercussions of merciless violence between them. Not all love stories are destined to have happy endings. But as it is rightfully said that ‘every end has a new beginning’ Raj and Meera’s story make us believe that love is a force more formidable than any other. It is invisible and cannot be seen or measured, yet it is powerful enough to transform you in a moment and offer you peace to overcome the most unforgettable memory of your life.
Its a typical Rohit Shetty movie but with some love story and gangster drama added to it. The elder gangster brother living a normal life and the younger brother not knowing about the elder brother’s past is definitely inspired/copied from Hum. Its a anything goes screenplay. There is a good twist in the first half of the movie but there’s no real impact due to that. There is another twist which is used to drag the whole movie.
There is one scene involving remote and TV channels which is hilarious. Other than that the comic scenes are not that funny. The love story part tries to be some kind of love saga and it comes and goes. A couple of songs Gerua and Janam Janam are good.
Shah Rukh Khan is ok. He is good in some scenes but he also overacts in many scenes whether its showing brotherly emotions or in the love story part. Kajol is also ok. She overacts in some scenes early on. The chemistry between SRK and Kajol is still good though. Varun is good in a role that he normally plays. Kriti looked pretty and is good too. Varun Sharma and Sanjay Mishra are not that funny. Johnny Lever is good in one scene. Vinod Khanna and Kabir Bedi are ok. Mukesh Tiwari and Pankaj Tripathi are good as they always are. Boman Irani is usual in a unnecessary villain track.
Rohit Shetty’s direction is bad. The movie keeps changing track from comedy to love story to gangster drama. Its too long and tests one’s patience.

I would have actually seen this film and was planning for that with my family. I liked Golmaal3, CE , Singham etc because my kid enjoyed it – even if they were timepass films.
But read reviews from friends and relatives that there is not much comedy here. So cancelled seeing this and went for BM instead.
You did the right thing by avoiding this and watching Bajirao Mastani instead.
Yes, Dilwale is more drama than comedy and not all the comedy is funny, although some of it is quite funny. It definitely pales in comparison to Golmaal and All The Best in terms of comedy.

Superb movie! Excellent direction, very good acting and grand look and feel! Ranveer does a fabulous job as Bajirao, bringing a certain zaniness to the character. PC is stupendous especially in the emotional scenes. Deepika is a little subdued and isn’t as impressive as the other two but manages pretty well. Sanjay leela Bhansali has written a powerful screenplay and although he deviates from the book and adds his own viewpoints, he manages to pull it off with a lot of conviction. There are some low points like Bajirao’s dancing in Malhari and Pinga, which were totally unnecessary and could have easily been excluded. But every those songs are presented very well. Cinematography is fantastic and bgm supports it very well. The final scenes are very well done. Must watch!
Here’s my thoughts on Dilwale. I actually enjoyed the movie since I had very very low expectations from the SRK-Rohit Shetty combo after Chennai Express.
Just back from Dilwale. Had gone in with zero expectations and really enjoyed it. SRK looked dashing and acted very well after a long lon time. Some of the dramatic scenes are very effective. Most of the cast does well and some comic scenes are really funny. The film has its share of misses but those are more than made up for and it is a well made masala movie along the lines of Main Hoon Na. Far far better than anything SRK has been in lately!
