Canadian Citizen Akshay Kumar’s Lies and Hypocrisy

This post is about Canadian Citizen Akshay Kumar’s Lies and Hypocrisy. There have been rumors of Akshay Kumar being a Canadian citizen for a long time but he has never admitted in any of his interviews before. Akshay Kumar has finally admitted today that he holds a Canadian Passport. He has come out with a statement “I really don’t understand the unwarranted interest and negativity about my citizenship. I have never hidden or denied that I hold a Canadian passport. It is also equally true that I have not visited Canada in the last seven years. I work in India, and pay all my taxes in India. While all these years, I have never needed to prove my love for India to anyone, I find it disappointing that my citizenship issue is constantly dragged into needless controversy, a matter that is personal, legal, non-political, and of no consequence to others. Lastly, I would like to continue contributing in my small way to the causes that I believe in and make India stronger and stronger.” Here is the link to his tweet.

Now is that true? Has he never hidden or denied that he holds a Canadian passport? Just a couple of days back a journalist asked Akshay Kumar that some people criticize him for small things as to why he did not vote in the elections the day before and he shooed away the journalist saying “Chaliye Bhai. Chal”.

If he has never hidden or denied that he holds a Canadian passport then he could have replied that everyone knows that he is a Canadian citizen and as a Canadian citizen he cannot vote in Indian elections. So why he did he have to shoo the reporter away?

A couple of years back he said in a Times Now interview – “About the Canadian thing I am a honorary citizen. I have been given a honorary thing. It’s a thing that people should be proud about. Jaise honorary mere paas doctorate bhi hai to main koi doctor doctor nahin ban gaya. So this is what people have to understand.” Here is the Times Now tweet from Aug 11, 2017.

According to Wikipedia only 6 persons have received Honorary Canadian citizenship and Akshay Kumar is not one of them. They are Raoul Wallenberg, Nelson Mandela, Tenzin Gyatso, Aung San Suu Kyi, Karim Aga Khan IV and Malala Yousafzai. Aung San Suu Kyi’s Honorary Canadian Citizenship was revoked by parliamentary vote in 2018.

So Akshay lied that he received an Honorary Canadian Citizenship. The second lie is that he tries to imply that he is not a real Canadian citizen but just an honorary one with the statement “Jaise honorary mere paas doctorate bhi hai to main koi doctor doctor nahin ban gaya.”

His statement today says “It is also equally true that I have not visited Canada in the last seven years.” So are we to assume he has had Canadian citizenship at least since last seven years?

As everyone knows Akshay Kumar has been starring in a lot of patriotic movies since the past few years. It all started with Holiday where he played a Indian soldier, then Baby and then followed by Airlift, Rustom, Gold and his last release Kesari. Baby even he had the dialogue “Religion wale column me hum Bold aur Capital me Indian Likhte hai” which is so ironic now. Rustom which was based on the Nanavati murder case even added a patriotic angle and as a result Akshay Kumar won a totally undeserving National Award for Best Actor.

There is nothing wrong in starring in patriotic movies but is it ok to claim that you are a Indian to sell your movie when you are in fact a Canadian?

Here is Akshay’s tweet while promoting his movie Airlift back on 20th Jan 2016 – “I’m an Indian, a proud Indian. @AirliftFilm is our attempt to bring to life India’s most heroic mission”. So was he an Indian back then or did he lie that he is an Indian so that he can sell his patriotic movie Airlift?

When the Indian Air Force did the Balakot air strike Akshay tweeted this. This was just on 26th Feb 2019.

“Proud of our #IndianAirForce fighters for destroying terror camps. अंदर घुस के मारो ! Quiet no more! #IndiaStrikesBack”

Now why would a Canadian citizen say “our #IndianAirForce fighters”? So was he still a Indian citizen just few months back on 26th Feb or did he lie in his tweet so that he can fool people to believe that he was a patriotic Indian? Did he think by tweeting this he can get more people to watch his patriotic movie Kesari which was releasing next month? Shouldn’t he as a loyal Canadian citizen be tweeting about the Royal Canadian Air Force instead?

—————

Back in 2010 in an interview to economist he claimed that he had a dual citizenship which is another lie. As every Indian knows India does not offer dual citizenship.

So to get his Canadian passport Akshay Kumar had to renounce his Indian citizenship. Many Indians move to Canada for work and then become Canadian citizens and renounce their Indian citizenship. There is nothing wrong with that. But they don’t lie that that they have honorary Canadian citizenship or dual citizenship or pretend to still be Indian citizens.

Aamir Khan has been called anti-national when he commented that his wife Kiran Rao had suggested moving abroad. He was targeted by people who deleted their Snapdeal app due to which he lost his Snapdeal contract. Shah Rukh Khan has been called anti-national for his comments too in the past.

So criticizing the current situation in the country or a political party or the government or saying that you thought of moving abroad makes you a traitor or an anti-national but renouncing your citizenship is fine? Akshay has received all his money and fame from India. He has been one of the top stars in the Indian film industry for more than 25 years now. So what was the need for him to renounce his Indian citizenship and become a Canadian citizen?

—————

Recently a Bangladeshi actor was deported because he campaigned for TMC. Link A few days later Akshay did a “non-political” interview with the Prime Minister of India during elections. So should Akshay Kumar also be deported to Canada for doing indirect campaigning for a political party by interviewing its leader? Shouldn’t he be doing non-political interviews with his Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau instead?

—————

I hope Indian producers stop hiring Akshay Kumar for patriotic Indian movies. I am sure there are many actors who are Indian citizens who can do these movies instead. Vicky Kaushal, who as far as we know is still an Indian citizen, recently starred in Uri which has been a bigger hit than any of Canadian Akshay Kumar’s patriotic Indian movies. Akshay has carefully crafted this image of a patriotic Indian by doing patriotic movies and supporting Indian Airforce and Indian Army when he should instead be doing patriotic Canadian movies and supporting Canadian AirForce and Canadian Army. This again is a lesson for people to not fall into the trap of believing movie stars and their carefully created image by their PR just to sell their movies.

Good post @sputnik. This has proved that Akshay has been repeatedly lying about his nationality.
