BrothersBrothers Has Good To Decent Start
Friday 14 August 2015 13.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network

Brothers opened to a good to decent response on day one with occupancies on average around the 35% mark. The opening is similar to Gabbar Is Back which opened on a mini holiday but this film is bigger than Gabbar Is Back in terms of budget so it should have opened better than it has.

The opening of the film is lower than ABCD 2 which has been the second biggest opening of the year so far after Bajrangi Bhaijaan. There is a one of the biggest holidays of the year tomorrow which will help collections in the evening especially the big cities so it may challenge the ABCD 2 first day number but the film really needs the first day to come in at around 17-18 crore nett and then get the huge benefit of the holiday and get that strong weekend of 60 crore nett plus.

This does not look like happening from the opening morning numbers meaning the film is depending on the evening advantage today and the big holiday tomorrow. Last year Singham Returns grossed 31.50 crore nett on Independence Day though it was day one for that film. For Brothers it is day two but still it has to be around 25 crore nett otherwise the film will find it tough going. Basically the opening is not bad but it should have been better.

    Brothers Has Decent First Day
    Friday 14 August 2015 23.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Brothers has collected a decent number on day one with collections set to be around 13.50 crore nett. The final collections could come out another 25-50 lakhs higher but even that would leave it short of the second biggest opener of the year ABCD 2. The 13.50 crore nett number is decent but this film needed more than decent figures.

The opening day will not be the best for Akshay Kumar despite it being his biggest film to date. The collections will come in lower than Rowdy Rathore. Even for Siddharth Malhotra it is well short of the Ek Villain opening day.

The film has done well in some places like Rajasthan and East Punjab but this is just due to the presence of Akshay Kumar. Rajasthan will notch up a 1 crore nett total on day one but the performance in CP Berar and CI is comparatively lower compared to Rajasthan. The film has a big holiday on Saturday but needs to grow 75-80% which will be difficult but not impossible as many films lately have seen 50-60% on a normal Saturday.

    Brothers First Day Business
    Saturday 15 August 2015 12.00 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Brothers could not really make the mark on day one as it grossed 13.50 crore. The film did well in the regular Akshay Kumar markets but could not perform in the metros especially the multiplexes. The collections in Mumbai city, Delhi city, Kolkata and Bangalore were not upto the mark. The single screens and mass markets did better but that won’t be enough unless the big multiplexes pick up hugely today.

The collections are lower than ABCD 2 and not much higher than Gabbar Is Back making it the third best opening of the year the film had good collections in East Punjab, Rajasthan and Bihar. Mumbai did not perform well.

The second day which is Independence day is crucial for the film and it needs to jump 70-80% to get over that 50 crore nett mark for the weekend. A 50 crore nett weekend would be a good weekend result normally but here with such a big holiday it would be average at best as it is very unlikely that the film will add 50% on the weekdays to the weekend figure..

Brothers Gets National Holiday Benefit – Sunday Crucial
    Saturday 15 August 2015 23.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Brothers got benefit of Independence Day as it grossed 21 crore nett but 25 crore was a must considering it is one of the biggest days of the year for box office collections. The growth is the 55% range when it had to be more. A big number has to come on these big national holidays, a Jai Ho which was not a big managed 25 crore nett on its big national holiday and it was day three there while it is day two here. The two day total is 34.50 crore nett.

Still the film has a chance and it is the acid test on Sunday when collections have to hold at similar levels to Saturday. A strong hold will mean a solid number on Monday. A noticeable drop on Sunday will make the weekdays an uphill struggle.

The bigger jumps did come in circuits like West Bengal and Mysore which were low on Friday and almost doubled up on Saturday. The weekend looks on course for 50-55 crore nett range depending on how Sunday fares which would be decent but of more importance will be a close towards the top end of the range which would a indicate a much better trend..

Brothers Has Heavy Drop On Sunday
    Sunday 16 August 2015 23.00 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Brothers has dropped heavily on Sunday with collections set to be around 25% down from Saturday as collections look set to be around 15.75 crore nett. The big drop is not the major problem as collections can be 25% down after a big holiday but should not be if next day is a Sunday. The main issue is that the film is just 15 % higher than its Friday total on Sunday.

The film is looking at just sneaking past the 50 crore nett mark which is a good to decent decent weekend but the trend is poor and unless Monday springs a huge surprise the film is heading for big trouble due to huge costs. Basically the Sunday number is too low.

The way the film has performed over the weekend even 100 crore nett is looking a huge task and its not as if its gets to a 100 crore nett that its a successful film. The expectations were of a Singham Returns type of performance which came last year but it seems the film will even fall well below Jai Ho unless Monday shocks and there is a big turnaround in its fortunes.

Independence Day Only Plus For Brothers
    Monday 17 August 2015 10.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Brothers grossed 49.75 crore nett over its first weekend and though the figure is good it does not tell the complete story. The near 50 crore nett business has mainly come due to the big Independence day holiday on Saturday while on Friday and Sunday the film has not performed. The film grossed 13.50 crore nett on Friday, 21.25 crore nett on Saturday and 15 crore nett on Sunday.

The business on Sunday was a killer though the warning signs were there on Saturday as key centers did not grow as they should gave. Still as next day was a Sunday, you would have thought the film to get away with it and a small drop but it was not to be.

The business on Sunday is much lower than a film like Holiday and even lower than Gabbar Is Back. The Sunday drop will probably mean it will be tough going on the weekdays. Due to the fact that the weekend us inflated by the big holiday and the poor trend it has practically no chance to add 50% on weekdays to its weekend business.

    Brothers Comes Down On Weekdays
    Friday 21 August 2015 11.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

Brothers had a good to decent weekend in terms of its collection which was aided by Independence Day on 15th August but the weekend trend was poor and the film crashed out on the weekdays. The weekend was 49.75 crore nett and the film added just 18 crore nett on the weekdays for a first week total of 67.75 crore nett. The writing was on the wall on Saturday and the business on Monday sealed its fate.

The business is poor all over with metros starting well below the mark and the circuits that started well on Friday could not grow as much on day two which was the big holiday. The first week business is less than films like ABCD 2 and Tanu Weds Manu Returns.

There is not much hope for week two and just remains to be seen where it finishesas per the two other Akshay Kumar starrers this year Baby (82 crore nett) and Gabbar Is Back (87 crore nett). Irrespective of how it finally grosses against those two films it will lose more due to higher costs.
