Five years have passed since “3 Idiots” released, the only All Time Blockbuster of 2000’s after “Gadar”, when the team of Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan is back with “PK”. The film has great buzz especially among the urban crowd and the film is looking for very good opening. Here are the box office predictions:

NOTE :- If the Word of mouth are extreme cases, like if the Word of Mouth is of extraordinary level like 3 Idiots, then the film can reach 275crs or if the WOM is unimaginably bad, it will fail to past 120crs as well.

I think it will definitely do more than 215 crs if WOM is good. Dhoom 3 did not have great WOM but it still did 265Cr did it not? And quite a few movies have done more than 215 Cr.
d3 did 265/280 cr bcos of its opening week which was due to franchise.it didnt trend as well as the earlier dhooms.its wom was mixed to negative. but even pk should open well considering its aamir-hirani after 3i. it might not cross hny day 1 but atleats it should start at d3 day 1 as its been one year since d3 came and its a solo release

What? D3 had good WOM man. Infact good to very good. From 95 weekend it did 260. Good trending.
When I said PK good WOM, I meant same WOM as a D3 or a Kick or CE. Within that WOM meter, PK will do 215crs.
3Idiots like WOM will take it to 275+
d3 made 2.7 times its weekend which is not far from the range of bang bang . yes it was good compared to HNY but thats not the std isnt it?
Bang Bang? Its not even in the picture. It had a sunday after first three days. Bang Bang had mixed WOM. That’s it. HNY had slightly better WOM than Bang Bang. It may not have even doubled the opening weekend but still better WOM because opening weekend was full of holidays which meant extra collections on weekend which doesn’t give chance to trend well. A normal weekend for HNY would have brought around 80crs. So from 80 to 180 its around average-above average WOM.
HNY made 1.8 times its weekend. thats poor by all stds. it was a crash from monday onwards. singham also had similar trending.
D3 reached almost the maximum theater going audience. You can give the credit to franchise for bombastic opening weekend on non holiday, but beyond that only the film speaks, no matter what your brand is, what your star is! The star definitely have audience beyond weekend too, but its only the WOM that gives the boost.
D3’s WOM was good. The record breaking second week says that. I mean no film even came close to 3I second week business, but D3 surpassed it and how!
Forget bad, HNY is average or may be even better. As I said, you can’t consider a festive weekend to normal weekend and then compare trends. HNY would have done normal 80-85 weekend and then 180 lifetime which is average to above average trending.

D3 released on 20th Dec. How was its festive weekend? Don’t tell me some schools were shut and you and your colleagues had an off day.
BB yes had couple of holidays. But what were the numbers? HNY was atleast 50% more than BB in weekend itself.
last week of december is the biggest holiday period in an entire calendar year. its the best time to release a big film. especially in private companies, its a vacation time till januray first week. its the best time for overseas release also. even govt ppl go on a holiday during this time in the year.
HNY was a solo release and we saw what happened to it after monday once the wom kicked in. it had 70% crash

What kind of prediction is this?
Even if reaction is mixed – most certainly it will be extreme. The people who will like the movie will love it and have repeat value. The people who will not like it also will see it atleast once. Even with extreme mixed WOM 200cr is a given for this film.
A substandard movie like HNY does 180cr and you predict 200+ only for a film like PK?
And before anyone dismissed or laughs off my claims as I am an Aamir fan – let me tell you folks. Whole India is Aamir+Raju fan as far as multiplexes business is concerned. A big time fan.
This will go through the roof even if movie gets mixed reactions.

Yes, I am Aamir hater, but m sure that the movie will do 300 – 400 Cr. business without any doubt. If craps like HNY and Kick can do 180 and + 200 cr business then there is no reason why Rajkumar Hirani movie wont do.
Sachin tendulkar and Virat Kohli have already said that this is the best movie of their lives, best movie of Aamir and best movie of Hirani.

This will also prove that Aamir films cannot do business without YRF, R Hirani or Amol Gupte (TZP was hijacked by Aamir baba after completion of it). Rest of the movies before and after 3i were utter craps.

PK Has Excellent Advance Booking

PK has had an excellent advance at the major metros with block bookings by corporate forming a huge proportion of the bookings. Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore have seen a record breaking advance while multiplexes at other places are also very good but most the corporate world is based in the above mention cities so the block bookings have also come here.
The single screens advance in major centres is less but still good especially for a film like this which is devoid of hit music and action.
The record opening day of Happy New Year will probably be out of reach but it could set new highs in some circuits for the first day. The film will release on around 3700 screens which will be third widest release ever after Kick and Happy New Year.

But the WOM is somewhere between “Good” and “3 Idiots” kind. Its very Good WOM. SO I might have guessed the film to do 250 as per this WOM. But its Unimaginable! Predicting lifetime business is always difficult. Btw, my first day prediction was pretty much spot on 😀
