Bombshell is a revealing look inside the most powerful and controversial media empire of all time: Fox News, and the explosive story of the women who brought down the infamous man who created it.
The movie is based on the true story of the sexual harassment suit against Roger Ailes. The movie does remind of The Big Short, which was written by the same writer, Charles Randolph. The lines are funny and witty. Some scenes are very good like the scene where Kayla is surprised at why a lesbian Hillary supporter works at Fox News or the scene where she tells Megyn that she should have done more to protect others. The best scene of the movie is the scene where Kayla is made to lift her skirt by Roger Ailes.
Charlize Theron is good as Megyn Kelly but don’t think she deserved an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. Neither her role nor her performance was great enough to receive an Oscar nomination. Nicole Kidman is very good as Gretchen Carlson in a smaller role. Margot Robbie is good as the fictional Kayla Pospisil. She was great in a couple of scenes but she should not have received an Oscar nomination either for Best Supporting Actress. Kate McKinnon is good as another fictional character Jess Carr. John Lithgow is very good as Roger Ailes. Mark Duplass is good as Douglas Brunt in a small role. Malcolm McDowell is good as Rupert Murdoch in a small role.
The movie has been nominated for an Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling which is well deserved especially for making Charlize Theron look like Megyn Kelly.
The movie shows how Roger Ailes ran Fox News and how he sexually harassed women. The movie shows how women were made to wear skirts and reveal their legs on air to get good ratings. The sexual harassment suit was settled. So Roger Ailes got away with no real punishment. Bombshell is not a great movie but its an engrossing movie worth a watch.
