Besharam Boxoffice Collections Thread

Besharam Has Excellent Start

Wednesday 2nd October 2013 11.30 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Besharam took a flying start with multiplexes recording 90% occupancies on average over the first two shows. The opening in Delhi NCR was extraordinary and as big as any film with collections 100% at most theatres.

If we compare with record openers like Chennai Express and Ek Tha Tiger than the opening is comparable in the big cities but as the city gets smaller there is a gap between Besharam and those films. This is also indicates that when the noon show starts at single screens it will be less than those films.

The single screens will still be huge but not at the level of Ek Tha Tiger or Chennai Express as although the film has more commercial ingredients than the regular Ranbir Kapoor film, the promos do indicate a Rom-Com rather than action or masala film.

The release for the film is huge and if it gets that 80% start at single screens and keeps the pace going at multiplexes then the first day total could go to around 25 crore nett. The chances are there with it being a holiday as long as public reports don’t disappoint.

Besharam To Have Second Widest Release Of All Time

    Tuesday 1st October 2013 11.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Besharam is set for the widest release of all time after Chennai Express. It will be Ranbir Kapoor’s widest release easily crossing the 3100 screens of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

Chennai Express had released on 3700 screens and Besharam will fall short of that due to less screens in the South. Chennai Express had a phenomenal release in the South as there was no major Tamil or Telugu release at the time so Chennai Express got a release where normally Hindi films don’t get a release as exhibitors needed a new film for Eid weekend. In Tamil Nadu/Kerala, Chennai express was released on nearly 175 screens when most other big films come on less than 100 screens. It was a similar story in Nizam/Andhra and Mysore and its because of the release that Chennai Express has smashed records in these areas by such huge margins.

Besharam will release on around 3500 plus screens with the 200 screen shortfall coming down South. The advances are good for the film all over be it multiplexes or single screens but with such a wide release advances don’t really matter as the key is can it keep up the pace all through the day and how big is that second day fall as it is a Wednesday release. Dabangg 2 is the second widest release at the moment with 3450 screens which Besharam should surpass when it releases tomorrow (Wednesday).

When Siddharth Roy kapoor himself said that CE releasd on 3500 screens than how BOI is saying 3700 screens? Even Besharam producers said its the widest release of 3700 screens.

Again expecting BOI’s no. To match producer numbers.

They Said thousand time that 3I had less screen and all but never said that right from the second week CE was running on similar/less screens as compared to 3I. While 3I had 63 open days CE had only 6 days.

    Lull before the storm!
    By Taran Adarsh, October 1, 2013 – 08:37 IST

The week gone by witnessed the release of a Kapoor starrer [Shahid Kapoor], PHATA POSTER NIKLA HERO. And the coming week [midweek, actually!] will witness the release of yet another biggie that stars a Kapoor [Ranbir Kapoor], BESHARAM. Between these two films, a plethora of low cost films made into the cineplexes last Friday. Even though many of those sank without a trace, the only film that managed to garner some attention was WARNING.

Generally, whenever a biggie is slated for release, all films preceding it tend to get sidelined. In the case of BESHARAM, since the film is getting released on a Wednesday, all new releases have only 5 [five] days to prove their worth. With Reliance going all out to give BESHARAM a wide release, releasing it in a staggering 3600 screens [the prospects of the same will be discussed next week], the only film that managed to catch some attention was WARNING, but the overall business remained low.

It’s the ‘lull before the storm’ kind of situation right now. With BESHARAM releasing on October 2, a national holiday, the cinegoers are but naturally geared up for this wholesome entertainer. Till then, it’s GRAND MASTI [at single screens mainly] and THE LUNCHBOX [at plexes of urban centres] that are luring audience to theatres.

Wednesday 2nd October 2013 13.30 ISTBoxofficeindia.Com Trade NetworkΒ Besharam is looking at the third highest opening day collections of all time. The multiplexes have opened to excellent response (bumper at places) but the single screen opening is not what it should be.Β In a territory in Delhi/UP, the multiplexes and few single screens in Delhi city are bumper, most multiplexes in UP are very good but single screens in UP are just good (65-70%) which is good for a normal day but not a holiday.Β It is similar story in circuits like Rajasthan and CI where multiplexes are performing very well but single screens are not as they should be. The film is likely to get the third highest opening ever but is unlikely to reach the 25 crore nett mark as single screens have not performed as they should have. The reports of the film are also not that strong but that will come more into play from tomorrow onwards.

by the way here is some news i heard.

apparently salman’s next title has been finalized as ‘jai ho’ and the release date they are toying with the idea of 31st december 2013.

apparently the team believes that since dhoom 3 is releasing on 20th dec and not 25th december as earlier expected, 11 days is enough for dhoom 3 after which it will neither be collecting that much (inj the current buisness scenario) nor will need that many scareens. since salman did not want a clash kind of situattion with an aamir-katrian-yashraj film, he had earlier approved of 24th jan 2014 as ‘jai ho’ release date. but apparently now sohail khan wants 31st december as it has many advanatge.

    1. since for a big film 1st days is usually huge, 31st decembe will see big collect5ions. many think ppl party on 31st december and dont watch movies on new years’ eve but that is a myth. not everyone can afford clubbing in india and movies are not watched that much becoz no new films release on 31 dec. this cud change with jai ho.

    2. 1st jan is a holiday followed by vacations till 5th jan

    3. salman stands to make many records if this film releases on 31st dec as 25 years unbroken hero record and 4 back to back biggets hits

    Besharam Has Good First Day

    Thursday 3rd October 2013 10.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Besharam has had a good first day with collections looking to be around the 19.50 crore nett mark as per early estimates. The film has recorded extraordinary collections in Delhi NCR and East Punjab but the rest of the country ranged from very good to good.

The collections were not bad anywhere but at places they where not what they should be on a big holiday. Across Delhi NCR and East Punjab it recorded the second highest collections ever after Ek That Tiger but in some centres like CP Berar, Maharashtra and Gujarat the collections were in the same range as Grand Masti.

The film did see falls in collections in the evening and night shows at most places. On the face of it the 19.50 crore nett approx first day total is very good but considering how it started and the fact it was a big holiday the collections should have been more towards the 25 crore nett range rather than the 20 crore nett range. There will be a big drop today (Thursday) and the key for the film is how big will the drop be. If it was to go over 50% then the film could even struggle to be an average fare.

Besharam Goes Down Heavily On Day Two
    Thursday 3rd October 2013 19.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Besharam has seen a huge fall in collections all over on day two. The falls are in the range of 60-70% as compared to the first day. Even places like Delhi and Punjab which saw a bumper first day have crashed badly.

The film had a strong start on Wednesday morning but collections were down a bit in the evening so even if we take the evening/night fall at 50% compared to Wednesday the film is still looking at a 60% fall on its second day.

The second day basically means the film looks set to struggle as Friday may show a further a drop with some respite on Saturday and Sunday but that will not be good enough.

  19. ank_16n 11 years ago

yes besharam can be a bo flop but that doen’t mean it won’t recover…..
    1. besharam satellite rights are sold at 30cr to zee tv…… 2. overseas say DS of 8cr……
    3. music n other rights at 8cr

    Total is 46cr

    4. now say Besharam does 75cr at boxoffice so DISTRIBUTOR SHARE will be 42cr…..

    Total recovery is 88cr..!!

even if its cost it 85cr then also it will recover.
most important thing Reliance has not sold besharam they are themselves distributing it so they will recover from all sources..!!

but boxoffice wise it will be flop at anything below
    70-75cr while average at 80cr..!! πŸ˜›

    • ank_16n 11 years ago

now the lifetime collections looks to be around 60cr so Distributor share will be around 33-34cr……
so total recovery will be 79cr means a loss of 6cr approx for Reliance..!!

  20. Bored 11 years ago

Reliance only bought the theatrical distribution rights, they are not co-producing. Even if producers (Mehra, Gupta) put their own money in print, publicity – Reliance still have to recover their 80 cr from theatrical DS from india and overseas. It wont be easy.
Even Kites/TMK/RaOne producers made movie, but distributors suffered losses. Happens with all flop movies.

But yeah KRK’s claim that Reliance will lose 50-60 cr is hogwash. They will probably lose 30 cr or so, same range of losses they suffered for Kites and Raavan. Some bigshot of Reliance is soon going to lose his job – usually happens after such debacle.

Reliance reportedly had offers from sub-distributors adding up to 105-120 cr! They still decided to distribute it themselves and not sell – that decision maker will have to take accountability after the dust settles down.

  21. ank_16n 11 years ago

TMK was distributed by UTV only they got the whole movie rights at 60-65cr…..then utv sold satellite rights at 24cr music rights at 8cr.!!

besharam as a movie was sold to reliance then reliance sold the satellite rights to zee….they had signed an agreement that zee wud give reliance 30cr minimum while they will add another some more crores if besharam does more than 110cr…….same patteren was followed by utv for CE ……UTV had buyed ce from red chillies at 105cr just like reliance has bought besharam at 80-85cr……

besharam budget was 50cr then abhinav n other producers sold all rights to reliance for 85cr..!!

kites all rights were sold by filmcraft to reliance at 80-90cr…..and yes they made losses on that one..!!

MOVIES ARE ACQUIRED BY STUDIOS FROM INDIVIDUAL PRODUCERS AS A WHOLE SUM PROJECT i.e every single rights..!!

  23. ank_16n 11 years ago

Reliance similarly acquired Bodyguard, singham n 3Idiots from individual producers but they didn’t distributed those films they further sold all 3 to sub-distributors……and also music rights n satellite rights also were sold by reliance to tv channels n T series….

if u want exact selling price n to whom were they sold i can tell that too..!! πŸ˜›

  24. ank_16n 11 years ago

my facts are clear but i think u don’t know how a studio works..!! πŸ˜€

  25. Bored 11 years ago

@ank_16 – Its easy to get confused, studios never work with only a single model. And u definitely dont understand how these deals are inked, coz producers dont sell all rights to a studio at a price which is less than what they have invested in the movie. Reliance is just the distributor here, they didnt acquire the movie. U are totally misinformed and need to cross check ur sources (if u have any!).

Maybe u are too thick to understand economics, but its ok. Just try not to spam (or troll) – but i can guess its too much to ask from u.

    Besharam Has Epic Crash

    Friday 4th October 2013 10.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Besharam crashed on day two with collections around the 6.5 crore nett mark. The two day total is around 25.75 crore nett. The film has fallen 65% on day two. The crash as uniform all over with Mysore being best circuit which fell around 55%. The film is now looking to close out its first three days at around 31 crore nett which is not even in the top three for Ranbir Kapoor.

The first day business should have taken the film to safety with even below par trending for the rest of the week but the film has had an epic crash which is unlike anything seen before.

Saturday and Sunday should see a bit better collections but with collections likely to range from 6-8 crore nett over the next three days which could take the five day weekend to around 46-47 crore nett.

  29. ank_16n 11 years ago

“Okay, let’s do the maths here”, Siddharth explains the equation, “The entire cost of acquisition for Tees Maar Khan was 50 crores. We further spent 10 crores the print and publicity worldwide. This makes the total cost as 60 crores. Now we have already recovered 30 crores from satellite and music rights. Balance 30 crores has to be recovered from India box office collections, overseas collections, home video and other rights.” The way film is progressing, Siddharth is confident about the film raking in 40 crores share from India alone. “That’s right; the theatrical share should be in range of 40 crores. Deviation, if any, could be 5-6 crores here or there but not more than that. Overseas share should be 8-10 crores while other rights would fetch us 2 crores. This makes it around 50 crores. Add to this 30 crores from satellite and music rights and we are sitting pretty on 80 crores”, details Siddharth. Quashing the entire theory of a 5 crores loss (as hinted by a segment of trade), Siddharth says, “On an investment of 60 crores, if someone believes that 80 crores return is a failure then well, he or she is definitely living in a dream world. Come on, in today’s times, a ROI like this is pretty much unheard of as well. Also, don’t forget that other than the box office returns; there are also MGs (Minimum Guarantee) that we have received from theatres.”

B.O. update: ‘Besharam’ drops badly on Day 2
    By Taran Adarsh, October 4, 2013 – 11:06 IST

BESHARAM, the biggie that had a midweek release [Wednesday, 2 October], embarked on a super start on Day 1. The national holiday + Ranbir Kapoor’s superstardom [after BARFI! and YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI] + Abhinav Kashyap’s immediate outing after the trendsetting DABANGG + Extensive release strategy by Reliance ensured an impressive total on its opening day [Rs. 21.56 cr, according to an official statement issued by Reliance]. However, the cracks were visible on the opening day itself, since the evening/night shows did not perform to the optimum.

The word of mouth tilts towards negative, which explains why the business declined considerably on Day 2 [Thursday, 3 October]. Of course, the business does witness a declining trend if it’s a working day after a big holiday, but in this case, even the circuits which performed exceedingly well on Day 1, witnessed sharp falls. As per the official statement issued by Reliance, the Day 2 figure is 7.13 cr. The final total after day two stands at 28.69 cr.

  34. Bored 11 years ago

Besharam is a goner, and its pretty bad in overseas too. This will be perhaps the biggest loss maker for Reliance Distribution arm.

Its a moot point now – but no producer loses money even on the biggest flops unless they solely distribute it themselves. Balaji/FK/Ratnam were all producers or co-producers of OUATIMD/Kites/Ravaan – they never lost even a single penny on these films. The distributors did, and thats taking the MGs into consideration. Its Reliance whose accounts will be red on Besharam, not the producers.

Thats why its the distributor accounts that determines hit/flop. But then fans come up with these absurd claims ‘hey the producer made money so its a hit’.

Btw, Besharam wont even fetch 30 cr for satellite rights now going by the clauses they have. Same happened with Kites/Raavan.

Btw, some people tend to argue without even reading anything (perhaps they cant). I have never said UTV lost money on TMK. They produced AND distributed TMK, there was no acquisition of the movie, neither was the theatrical rights sold to a third party like in case of Besharam. It is was not too dificult for UTV to recover their investment based on the weekend.

    @Baba – yes u r rite, my bad.

And these BO stuff doesnt matter that much. Its the impact of the negativity on the director/actors thats the problem.

Besharam Goes Down Further On Friday

    Saturday 5th October 2013 11.00 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Besharam fell another 15% on Friday after the epic 65% crash on Thursday. The collections on Friday were around 5.75 crore nett which takes it 3 day total to 31.50 crore nett.

Saturday and Sunday should see better collections but when collections are already down to the 6 crore nett levels it all becomes irrelevant. Saturday may be up a little or in the same range while Sunday should be up by 10-15% so the film is looking to add another 13 crore nett which would give it a five day weekend of around 45 crore nett.

Even if the film had fallen 50% on day two it could have been safe as it would have got a 50 crore share while now it is losses all around with the lifetime share struggling to hit even 35 crore.

Besharam had little jump in collections on Saturday of aroundd 6% but it makes little difference. The approx daily totals for the film are as follows.

    Wednesday – 19.25 crore

    Thursday – 6.50 crore

    Friday – 5.50 crore

    Saturday – 5.75 crore

The five day total stands at around 37 crore nett and it is likely that film will stay below 45 crore nett or if Sunday does better than expected at best it will be 45 crore nett.

A major chunk of 3600 screens have reported they are going pull Besharam out of theaters due to lack of audience from Monday. Over-saturating the market has its pitfall.
I think its the first time a big budget movie will be pulled out of theaters after the first weekend itself, previously the worst tanking movies used to lose screens only in second week.

Besharam Has 44 Crore Extended Five Day Weekend
    Monday 6th October 2013 11.00 IST
    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Besharam had that normal Sunday jump with collections remaining low. A 6.75-7 crore nett wouldhave been a just about decent figure for Monday but that is what Besharam collected on Sunday. The daily collections for the first five days are as follows

    Wednesday – 19.25 crore

    Thursday – 6.50 crore

    Friday – 5.50 crore

    Saturday – 5.75 crore

    Sunday – 7 crore approx

    TOTAL – 44 crore

The film has awful 10% occupancies in early shows of Monday morning and it looks like the lifetime toalof the film will be around the 60 crore nett mark which is lower than the expected extended weekend of the film.

    ‘Besharam’ is an epic disappointment!
    By Taran Adarsh, October 7, 2013 – 11:17 IST

By now everyone who’s a fan of masala films must’ve realized that BESHARAM has turned out to be an epic disappointment, a colossal waste of fine talent and resources. Ranbir Kapoor [after BARFI! and YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI] + Abhinav Kashyap [after DABANGG] + masala genre [the flavor of the season] + timing its release on a national holiday [2 October; 5-day weekend] + super promotion and release strategy by Reliance should’ve translated into a groundbreaking start at the BO. But BESHARAM has botched up all chances of setting new benchmarks. The film has failed to deliver. Not Ranbir Kapoor…

Thanks to his superstardom, Ranbir drew the audience to the plexes and single screens on the day of release. But, ultimately, the content has to do the talking and BESHARAM is an absolute letdown on that front. The business continued to dwindle with each passing day [escalating slightly on Sunday], clearly indicating that the audience has rejected the film. I dread to think what the figures will be on weekdays, given the fact that its biz over the weekend was shockingly low.

Star value coupled with hype and hoopla can assure an impressive start at the ticket window, but for any film to have long legs, it ought to be backed by strong content. The spectator is in a mood to lap up anything and everything, provided it appeals to him/her. In this case, the negative word of mouth spread faster than wild fire and the cracks were visible on its opening day itself, towards the evening/night shows specifically.

There’s a lesson to be learnt here. A lesson we have learnt many a times in the past, but pay no heed to time and again. Never take the audience for granted. Your past laurels can help you momentarily, but when you’re out on the field, you’re judged by your current ability and skills. Hope we remember this the next time!

Besharam Goes To Very Low Levels On Monday

    Tuesday 8th October 2013 11.00 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Besharam went to very low levels on Monday as it fell more than 50% from its Friday business. The collections on Monday are even lower than a low collecting rejected film like Phata Poster Nikhla Hero. The daily collections for the first six days are as follows

    Wednesday – 19.25 crore

    Thursday – 6.50 crore

    Friday – 5.50 crore

    Saturday – 5.75 crore

    Sunday – 7 crore

    Monday – 2.50 crore

    TOTAL – 46.50 crore

The film has 46.50 crore nett in six days and will collect around 53 crore nett over its extended first week if it shows that normal 15% weekdays daily fall. The lifetime total is looking to be 60 crore nett on a best case scenario.

so basically, with a similar project, though more hyped (beshaream was much more hyped than phata poster) and similare quality films there is no ndifference ebtween shahid kapoor and ranbeer kapoor. the only advantage ranbeer has is that he has the biggest of projects, being rishi kapoor’s son. else he is no better than abhishek bachchan who had many more hits between 2004-2007 perioid.

i suspect wat ever little ‘genuine popularity’ ranbeer has is amongst females for his ‘most eligible bachelor’ status and with marriage or advancing age and fading looks (whichever happens first) he will lose it and will go the way abhoishek bachchan went after marriage. besharam can easily be taken as ranbeer’s jhoom barabar jhoom.

also any actor shud think twice before trying to be pitched as salman’s rival. we all have seen wat a fight and hug have done to srk, john, vivek and now ranbeer didnt even fight with salman and look wat happened to him. he shud focus on replacing srk which is easier.

Happy to see this one bomb. Bad movies should flop, so more bad movies dont get made. It is a good thing Himmatwala, Besharam and OUATIMABCDE did not make money. Looking forward to better movies from top stars. Need to skip the next few months for that though – with the dated-looking Krissh 3 and the gimmicky-looking Dhoom 3 coming up, not to mention potential trash like Boss and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein.

lol Danish’s one prediction or his erotic fantasy (as he calls it) going to be true… πŸ™‚

Hell, I predicted it to go over 180 Cr before the promo released.

  56. Bored 11 years ago

Celebrating the failure of Besharam in the name of ‘bad movies shud flop’ makes no sense in the age where all Salman movies and CE are the big hits. Nor does it make sense to slam K3/D3 under the same false excuse.
Instead, we shud mourn the success of CE/Dabangg2.

    • FS 11 years ago

They are big hits because majority liked it – its that simple – you like it or not. Why should one mourn for the success or celebrate the failure of movies unless and off-course one has vested interest or financial interest in the projects…?

Sometimes it turns out that your opinion is among the majority but it cannot always be the same.

  57. Bored 11 years ago

Its very simple – if one wants better cinema then of course regressive bad movies like Salman’s cheap stuff or CE shud be criticised. Failure like Besharam/Himmatwala does no harm whatsoever (except making distributors bankrupt).

Its the current demand for cheap lowbrow cinema that is the main problem – turning mainstream bollywood into cringeworthy lowbrow commercial telegu/tamil cinema. A disgusting trend brought abt by Salman from his B-grade days.

Besharam Has 52 Crore Extended Nine Day First Week

    Friday 11th October 2013 10.00 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Besharam grossed around 52 crore nett in its extended nine day first week with the four weekdays adding just 8 crore nett approx while first five days had collected 44 crore nett approx.

The film has seen a huge reduction of shows this week with it showing on just 4-5 shows on average at multiplexes. Looking at the weekday collections and the shortened week due to Boss on Wednesday it will be a struggle for Besharam to collect even 60 crore nett.

The film has fared poorly all over though North is comparatively better as the first day start there was bumper while the rest of the country range from good to excellent.

Bombay velvet has been sold to Viacom 18 at 85cr all rights..!! πŸ˜›
while jagga jasoos is a 3 part movie which utv have bought at 125cr all rights for these 3 movies πŸ˜€

  63. Anjanpur685Miles 11 years ago

Who cares how much movies are being sold for and whether director is small budget or not. Besharam might be an utterly bad film (havent seen it) but Anurag Kashyap is still one of the best directors. Who knows – we may have another Black Friday/ Dev D/ No Smoking in Bombay Velvet.

  64. Anjanpur685Miles 11 years ago

On Jagga Jasoos, I read it is 3 part movie. I really wish they make sequel to Agent Vinod btw.

But then there are too many desi jasoor movies coming along – Dibankar making Vyomkesh, Soojit interested in Feluda – interesting things ahead…

  65. Bored 11 years ago

It wudnt matter if ViaCom18 had not shelled out 85 cr to buy it. Even if it turns out to be a Black Friday, which such budgets/acquisitions it may struggle to recover. And here Kashyap is supposedly going commercial for the first time – so more risky i wud say.
Its safer to have a BO bankable star in such projects, but even then it may fail.

  66. Bored 11 years ago

I shud have mentioned ‘those who can read PROPERLY’ – JJ may span a trilogy or a longer series, but the 100 cr co-production deal is for the first movie only (and thats just the production budget without print publicity costs which will be another 20-25 cr added on).

UTV disney will be spending equal amounts on 2 other movies – one of them is PK which they have picked up for 135 cr (no idea if thats only for distribution or a complete acquisition at this point).

  67. Anjanpur685Miles 11 years ago

^Bored, if you are referring to me, I havent read any of above links. I read somewhere else earlier that Jagga Jasoos is 3 series .

    • Bored 11 years ago

      No not u.

Its just that some insecure fans spam online forums saying this movie was sold for 5 cr and that for 10 cr – so that they can hail these movies as some sort of hits even if they under perform. It defies all logic when one states the producer spent X amt in making the movie and then sold off everything at a lesser price, why? Becoz the star’s fan wants the movie to be a box office hit.

U see, there is a movie called Boss abt to release and such games are expected. If it flops u wont see them for a while (one good reason to hope it actually flops – not that it matters in the larger picture).

      • shan 11 years ago

        LOL, Bored πŸ™‚ Well said.

One advice for you (even though you did not ask for it) : Ignore people/comments that make you feel angry. You are not answerable to everyone in an online forum and at the same time, should not expect to convince everyone about your viewpoint. Some people enjoy being a nuisance. It is best to ignore and limit discussions with members you care to discuss with.

Mean it in the best possible way. πŸ™‚

        • Bored 11 years ago

Thanks Shan – I appreciate it. Agree to what u say, but if u r always silent the forum will eventually go to the dogs …

  68. Bored 11 years ago

PK runs a big risk of being the next ‘Shaan’. It had a decent run at BO, but was not good enuf to justify the prices that movie fetched due to Sholay’s great success.

    • shan 11 years ago

True. PK has a tough legacy to follow-up and the promotional material released so far has been quite wacky. I liked both Munnabhai movies more than 3 Idiots, even though all 3 were very enjoyable. Having said that, Hirani is a very good director and Aamir takes keen interest in all his movies. So expecting them to surprise, as always. πŸ™‚ Whether the movie makes pots of money or not matters less to me as compared to whether it is a good movie.

Besharam Is One Of The Biggest Disappointments Of Recent Times

    Friday 11th October 2013 11.30 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

The collections of Besharam have crashed further on its second Friday with its all India figures likely to come in below 75 lakhs nett. The way the collections are going the film will struggle to collect even 5 crore nett in its second week.

The film has emerged one of the biggest disappointments of the year of recent times, not in terms of losses as there are other films which have lost more but in terms of what it was expected to do.

If we take this year for example, the other major disappointments are Himmatwala, Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobara and Satyagraha but none of these films were expected to put up the numbers that Besharam was expected to do. With a national holiday start even a worst case scenario was 100 crore for Besharam before release but it shows that when content is totally rejected what can happen and how fast collections can come down.

Besharam Has 2.75 Crore Nett Second Weekend

    Monday 14th October 2013 10.00 IST

    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Besharam grossed 2.75 crore nett approx in its second weekend takings its total 54.25 crore nett. The film has seen the sort of crash that is rare for big films with the film falling 90%.

The 60 crore nett looks a huge distance away and the film will finish at around 56 crore nett with a distributor share of 30 crore approx.

These totals have come with a big national holiday on day one and if that had not been there the collections of the film would have been even less. The loss on the film will be around 20 crore with recovery from all revenue sources to be around 65 crore on a 85 crore investment.

Besharam At 55 Crore In Two Weeks
    Friday 18th October 2013 10.30 IST
    Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Besharam grossed around 3.75 crore nett in week two taking its two week total to a little over 55 crore nett. The film is out of most theatres possibly adding just another 25 lakhs nett or so from here on.
The second week numbers were similar to small budget duds like Nautanki Saala and Go Goa Gone which says it all.
After a near 20 crore nett first day, 55 crore should have been a worst case scenario for its extended weekend but it shows how fast a hyped film can come down if rejected especially if it manages to get a good opening.
