Barfi! Monday Business

Barfi! had excellent collections on Monday as it dropped just 25% from Friday. The collections on Monday were around 6.50 crore nett as per early estimates. The collections are only behind Ek Tha Tiger, Rowdy Rathore, Agneepath and Housefull 2 for 2012 on a Monday.

The collections at some centres were better on Monday than Friday. Many centres where the opening was not strong saw better figures on Monday. The multiplexes were just excellent as tickets rates come down 20-25% on Monday and collections saw more or less a similar drop meaning similar footfalls to Friday.

The film has grossed over 40 crore nett in five days and with holiday on some parts of the country on Wednesday, the week should finish around 55 crore nett.

Monday collections of Barfi! is really brilliant. The weekdays ticket prices in most of the multiplexes are half of weekend prices which implies Barfi had a similar or even more footfall than Friday. Now this is what we call brilliant trending rite shaluji?

Barfi! Heads For 100 Crore Plus Business

Barfi! is set to cross the 100 crore nett mark by the end of its fourth week or at least be very close. The film has grossed around 81 crore nett in two weeks and with Gandhi Jayanti on Tuesday, the third week will close in the 13-15 crore nett range giving it a three week total in the range of 94-96 crore nett.

The film has done extremely well in Mumbai and Delhi but its strongest business has come in places like Kolkatta and Bangalore. The performance in single screen markets is below the mark.

It will be the first time that a film which mainly has a multiplex audience goes on to hit a century. Prior to Barfi!, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara at 90 crore nett approx was the highest grossing film in this bracket.

Although 100 crore nett is not a major benchmark today, its still an achievement for a film like Barfi! as it had limited mass appeal.
