Good to see Rosamund Pike being nominated for Best Actress for Gone Girl. She was awesome. Good to see David Fincher nominated too. I don’t think Gone Girl’s screenplay was the best so it won’t win in that category. The nomination for Best Original Score for Trent Reznor is well deserved.

I did not like Boyhood much but I guess it will be nominated a lot because of its novelty. It will probably win in the screenplay category for its novelty. Good to see Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette being nominated for Boyhood in the supporting Actor categories. They were good.

So many movies to watch . Except Boyhood I haven’t seen a single movie nominated for best film category . But looks like boyhood and birdman will win in respective categories.

No real surprise in Tv category .With breaking bad gone competition is open now . Kevin Spacey should win best actor .Loved silicon valley .So I hope it wins best comedy.Best miniseries is a category to watch out for . Fargo vs true Detective, Billy bob vs Mccounaghey .Liked fargo more .So hope it wins Same for Billy bob thornton .

Have you seen the movie Fargo? The TV Series is supposed to be inspired from that movie. Here is my comment on the movie.

“Fargo Police chief Marge Gunderson — a serious sleuth who’s sharper than her folksy accent suggests — is hot on the trail of a Minneapolis car dealer conspiring with two kidnappers to snatch his wife so he can pocket part of the hefty ransom.

Finally watched the movie. Had been on my watch list for a long time. The movie is a dark comedy and I liked it. The movie begins with the text that is a true story but the Coen Brothers lied and there is the usual fictitious disclaimer at the end after all the credits.

‘Joel and Ethan Coen’s black comedy/thriller about extortion, murder and absolute ineptitude opens with the following words: “This is a true story. The events depicted in this film took place in Minnesota in 1987. At the request of the survivors, the names have been changed. Out of respect for the dead, the rest has been told exactly as it occurred.”

The Coens lied. “Fargo” is complete fiction. When the deception was revealed, some accused the filmmakers of cheating their audience. Even star William H. Macy, upon discovering that the film he was making wasn’t fact-based, told the Coens, “You can’t do that!” To which the visionary writer-director team responded, “Why not?”

Joel Cohen told “Time Out” that “if an audience believes that something’s based on a real event, it gives you permission to do things they might otherwise not accept.”‘ Link

The atmosphere/ambiance was very good with the whole setting in Fargo and I actually thought it was a 80s movie. The movie was nominated for 7 Oscars and won Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. The Cinematography was very good and it was nominated for an Oscar.

Frances McDormand won an Oscar for Best Actress but I did not like her acting at all. Felt like she was trying too hard to be quirky with the accent and her open mouthed expressions and eyes. Diane Keaton in Marvin’s Room was way better than her. William H. Macy was very good as the loser husband and he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor. This makes it three actors (Macy in Fargo, James Woods in Ghosts of Mississippi and Edward Norton who should have actually won for Primal Fear) who were better than Cuba Gooding Jr who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor that year. Steve Buscemi was good but his role was similar to the roles he usually plays. Peter Stormare was very good as the pyscho who doesn’t speak much. Harve Presnell was good as the father-in-law.”

Yes and I have commented on only the couple of movies that I have seen.

Only Hans Zimmer has been nominated for the background score. Interstellar not being nominated in any other category is a major surprise.

          • Baba 9 years ago

how is that a surprise? it has bad reviews n rotten tomatoes. i am yet to see the other films as you said. i am quite sure most of them will be poorer than even interstellar!

It is a surprise because Nolan’s movies usually get nominated in more than just one category.

It still has majority of positive reviews on rotten tomatoes and it is rated 8.9 on IMDB. IMDB has a lot of Nolan fan boys though.

          • cr7 9 years ago

73 percent for a big movie with 250+ reviews is not bad by any means. Even Prestige was rated around 70%. And Nolan is not a award show favorite. I don’t think he has ever won any major award.

Yes its true that he has not won any major awards yet but both Inception and TDK had multiple Oscar nominations.

  4. Baba 9 years ago

on a serious note, golden globe , oscars are crap.i never get excited about a movie just because i hear it won oscar or nomination at golden globe. somene who writes soemthing that is persuasive can make me watch a film, not it winning an oscar. like an interstellar review by ritz. that is enough to make me check the film out.

gone girl should win all awards

    • cr7 9 years ago

Its not nominated in best film category . Don’t think It deserves screenplay too . The best shot it has in the best actress category and I really want that to happen . Rosamund Pike was excellent .

Did not like Boyhood but it has won both Best Director and Best Picture just because of the whole gimmick of shooting in real time over so many years.

Haven’t seen Still Alice yet but I don’t like Julianne Moore. I wanted Rosamund Pike to win for Gone Girl.

  15. cr7 9 years ago

I will never understand the greatness of Linklater’s pretentious movies . Also Wes Anderson . I enjoy his movies . But the kind of reviews and appreciation his movies get is unbelievable .

      Ha Ha. Same here.

I hated Moonrise Kingdom and did not even complete it. The Royal Tenenbaums was also like that whatever little I watched of it.

In Hollywood praising some directors and their movies is considered a sign of intelligence and so many will praise their movies even though those movies are nothing great.
