2013 Oscar Predictions

Here are my 2013 Oscar Predictions.

Best Film
Beasts Of The Southern Wild
Django Unchained
Les Miserables
Life Of Pi
Silver Linings Playbook
Zero Dark Thirty

I want Zero Dark Thirty to win but I think it will be Lincoln that will win. Argo winning will be a surprise.

Best Director
David O Russell – Silver Linings Playbook
Ang Lee – Life Of Pi
Steven Spielberg – Lincoln
Michael Haneke – Amour
Benh Zeitlin – Beasts Of The Southern Wild

They did not even nominate Kathryn Bigelow who deserves the award. And there is no Ben Affleck either. So it will go to Steven Spielberg unless there is a surprise win by Ang Lee.

Best Actor
Bradley Cooper – Silver Linings Playbook
Joaquin Phoenix – The Master
Daniel Day-Lewis – Lincoln
Denzel Washington – Flight
Hugh Jackman – Les Miserable

Its Daniel Day-Lewis who is going to win. The others don’t even need to show up.

Best Actress
Jessica Chastain – Zero Dark Thirty
Quvenzhané Wallis – Beasts of the Southern Wild
Jennifer Lawrence – Silver Linings Playbook
Naomi Watts – The Impossible
Emmanuelle Riva – Armour

I want Jessica Chastain to win but I will be ok even if Jennifer Lawrence wins. Emmanuelle Riva was also excellent but it will be a surprise if she wins.

Best Supporting Actor
Alan Arkin – Argo
Robert De Niro – Silver Linings Playbook
Tommy Lee Jones – Lincoln
Christoph Waltz – Django Unchained
Philip Seymour Hoffman – The Master

Tommy Lee Jones is going to win this. Christoph Waltz was also very good but I don’t think he will win again so soon. Philip Seymour Hoffman was excellent too and him winning will be a surprise.

Best Supporting Actress
Amy Adams – The Master
Sally Field – Lincoln
Anne Hathaway – Les Miserables
Helen Hunt – The Sessions
Jacki Weaver – Silver Linings Playbook

I hope Amy Adams wins and I hope Sally Field does not win. Jacki Weaver was good too but I doubt she will win.

Best Foreign Film
War witch
A Royal Affair

I think Amour will win. It being nominated in the main categories is proof enough.

Best Adapted Screenplay
Beasts Of The Southern Wild
Silver Linings Playbook
Life Of Pi

This is a tough one. Life Of Pi is probably going to win but Argo has good chance too. Beasts Of The Southern Wild will be the surprise win.

Best Original Screenplay
Django Unchained
Moonrise Kingdom
Zero Dark Thirty

I think Zero Dark Thirty should win this. Amour will be a surprise win.

Best Original Song
Before My Time (Chasing Ice) – Music and Lyric by J. Ralph
Everybody Needs A Best Friend (Ted) – Music by Walter Murphy; Lyric by Seth MacFarlane
Pi’s Lullaby (Life Of Pi) – Music by Mychael Danna; Lyric by Bombay Jayashri
Skyfall (Skyfall) – Music and Lyric by Adele Adkins and Paul Epworth
Suddenly (Les Misérables) – Music by Claude-Michel Schönberg; Lyric by Herbert Kretzmer and Alain Boublil

I think all songs are good but I think Skyfall will win. Pi’s Lullaby winning will be a surprise.

Music (Original Score)
Dario Marianelli – Anna Karenina
Alexandre Desplat – Argo
Mychael Danna – Life Of Pi
John Williams – Lincoln
Thomas Newman – Skyfall

I think Mychael Danna will win this but Thomas Newman winning will be a surprise.

Seamus McGarvey – Anna Karenina
Robert Richardson – Django Unchained
Claudio Miranda – Life Of Pi
Janusz Kaminski – Lincoln
Roger Deakins – Skyfall

I think Life Of Pi will win but Skyfall could also win which will be a surprise.

Film Editing
William Goldenberg – Argo
Tim Squyres – Life Of Pi
Michael Kahn – Lincoln
Jay Cassidy and Crispin Struthers – Silver Linings Playbook
Dylan Tichenor and William Goldenberg – Zero Dark Thirty

I think Argo will win this but Zero Dark Thirty winning will be a surprise.

Visual Effects
Joe Letteri, Eric Saindon, David Clayton and R. Christopher White – The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
Bill Westenhofer, Guillaume Rocheron, Erik-Jan De Boer and Donald R. Elliott – Life Of Pi
Janek Sirrs, Jeff White, Guy Williams and Dan Sudick – Marvel’s The Avengers
Richard Stammers, Trevor Wood, Charley Henley and Martin Hill – Prometheus
Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, Philip Brennan, Neil Corbould and Michael Dawson – Snow White And The Huntsman

I think Life Of Pi will win this.

Nice predictions too. TQ’s been there since 2008.

Ha Ha. Thanks for coming back 😀

I tried to watch Les Miserables but could not because of all the singing. May be Hathaway will win but I don’t care for singing instead of talking.

Yeah just found out. Sad. Reports say 11-15 dead and 50 injured. Its 15 min drive from my house.

      • hithere 9 years ago

Hopefully things are fine at your home.

          sputnik 9 years ago

Yeah. The place at which these blasts occurred is quite a busy area with theaters, bus stops and fruit/vegetable markets. Every few months its another city and they are not going a good job of preventing these attacks.

          • hithere 9 years ago

yeah..we are partly to blame that we don’t make politicans accountable for these. Moreover India is so vast, diverse and porous that it is difficult to manage all the risks. The curious part is that the police solves most of the cases in no time. So I guess instead of them being reactive, somewhat proactiveness would help.

Yes its very difficult to prevent attacks in a vast country like India with so many people but the govt is saying that had information on impending attacks since 2 days but no specifics. If they had that information why not issue a alert for people to be careful or be on the look out for anything suspicious and may be increase patrolling and security checks.

Yeah they always solve most of the cases in no time. So if they have those informants or contacts they can be proactive instead of being reactive.

    • hithere 9 years ago

Law enforcement needs to be an independent body with oversight by some judicial body. I was arguing few days back with my colleague on tortures (ZDT). Our argument boiled down to the point, do we torture innocent people or let people die because when we are proactive there is high probablity that some innocents would also get tortured.

        sputnik 9 years ago

Torture thing is complicated. On one hand where there is not much time one would like every means at disposal to prevent an attack but when lot of innocent people start getting tortured it becomes difficult to justify it.

Thanking Harvey Weinstein and God, in That Order

Thanks to the Academy, you can read (and watch) most of the winners’ acceptance speeches, going back decades. But you don’t have to, because a grad student at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta did it for you, all in the name of research.

Rebecca Rolfe watched more than 200 Oscar winners’ speeches, going back to 1953, the first year the show was televised, and posted her findings in an interactive Web site.

How many people actually say “I’d like to thank the Academy”? Only 40 percent. Most begin by thanking the creative team behind the film, then their agents and publicists. If it seems like the speeches have become windier, it’s not your imagination: in the 1960s, they averaged about 40 seconds; now it’s up to 2 minutes. And winners are more emotional: “71 percent of tears have been shed since 1995,” Ms. Wolfe found, “including 12 of the last 15 best actresses.” (Steven Spielberg is the sole director to well up, when he won for “Schindler’s List.”)

Nearly half of all the winners thank their family, but only 11 total have thanked God, according to Ms. Rolfe’s research. And even God loses out to his Hollywood counterpart : Harvey Weinstein has been thanked the most times (12) in Oscar history.

Nominating a foreign language movie in the best movie category– and then having the best foreign movie category to any debate is absurdly foolish on the Academy’s part.

These are my worst predictions based on my first choices or what I said will win – only 6/14 predictions correct 😥

But I got all right except two – Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Screenplay based on my 2nd/3rd choices 😉

  12. Serenzy 9 years ago

Many of your ‘Surprises’ Won. 🙂

  13. Serenzy 9 years ago

Ang Lee Thanked the Indian Crew!

I have Watched it in Bits and Parts… Will watch Full Tonight.

btw, Anyone here thinks ‘Mila Kunis/Emma Stone’ and ‘Gwyneth Paltrow/Maggie Gyllenhaal’ look Similar to Each Other?? 🙂

    • Author
      sputnik 9 years ago

I don’t think Mila Kunis is similar to Emma Stone nor is Gwyneth Paltrow similar to Maggie Gyllenhaal. When I was a kid I used to get confused between Zeenat Aman and Parveen Babi 😉

  14. Serenzy 9 years ago

Zeenat Aman & Parveen Babi Do look Similar[And Equally Seductive in their Movies of whatever little I have seen].

I Think Priyanka Chopra[in her Screen Presence] Many a Times Tries to Come Across as a ‘Wannabe’ Zeenat/Parveen[Though Sometimes Good].

My Mum Thinks PC Mimics Meena Kumari Superbly 🙂

Anushka Sharma’s Acting Reminds me of Zinta and her Face/Dialogue Delivery Remind me of Emma Stone.

Kunis & Stone have a Tad Bit Resemblance but Paltrow and Gyllenhal look Very Similar… I Can Bet on it.

GOOGLE Them… Post their Pics here.!!!

      sputnik 9 years ago

Yeah Priyanka Chopra is looking more and more like Zeenat Aman after all her nose jobs and its been even more apparent since she did Zeenat Aman’s role from Don.

I liked Anushka a lot in Rab Ne and BBB but she has become extremely irritating with her bubbly act. I liked Preity in the Perk Ad (from which she became famous) and in Dil Se and DCH but I used to find her bubbly act irritating too.

I have to say this though Anushka makes Preity’s bubbly act look subtle or Anushka is Preity on caffeine 😉

Paltrow and Gyllenhal don’t look similar at all. I think Maggie Gyllenhal and Michelle Williams look a bit similar though.
