Scene of the Week : Chak De India

Many would recall the sattar minute or the climax scene as the best from CDI,but i felt this was the best scene in the film. Its a great scene.Though the film has lots of amazing dialogues from srk but my pick was “Is team ka gunda main hoon”. 😀

In this scene, srk means business. He is in a no-nonsense,shitty mood.He knew he was given a team of players who were either too egoists or too complacent. So he conducts a crash training program because he wants to break the ego of every player and give them a reality check. Now check this scene.

    Baba,

Good Scene. CDI has a lot of scenes which can be posted as SOTW. My favorite is the winning scene where SRK is weak in the knees and leans against the railing. He has multiple emotions running within him – one of winning and another of vindication.

yes climax is also great. and i loved the BGM of “maula mere” throughout the film.

Another scene i really liked is the induction scene of all girls with srk. I liked his attitude a lot when he said ” and I am the coach of the National Womens hockey team”.

Wonderful Scene SRK has done very good acting in CDI & its is one of the best Hindi Movie on sports.

It is my one of the favorite scene as well.

btw,I was amused to read some srk fan comments in jthj promo. They say srk character looks similar to CDI bcos of the stubble look. 😀
CDI is not about the look.It was about the strong characterisation of srk.Even if there was no stubble,he would have still nailed the role.

Agree with Sputnik – that scene was best scene in the movie.

Dont like this scene. Example of bad administration/coaching here ….too much emphasis on winning and being rude.

    • Baba Ji 12 years ago

he was not “coaching” them here.As i said in the post, the idea was to to give them a reality check .They should know what they must possess to compete at international level and not live in delusions.

“too much emphasis on winning and being rude.”

these things sound good when you are watching aamirs tzp on doordarshan.not in practical life.

      • Ritz 12 years ago

        @Baba

Maybe its a personal choice. I dont like someone giving this kind of attitude. Its not a reality check at all – it just rude attitude. This is not a “Prahaar” where Nana coaches other army guys in that way – this is about a game. A game is about enjoying and this type of coaching is missing the spirit of the game imo. No one gets success in game this way…maybe in war yes.

        Anyways..

        • Baba Ji 12 years ago

ritz – lol… CDI is not about simply a game and coaching.Throughout the film, shimit has shown issues that are bigger than the game and it goes beyond the playground. if it was just a game, srk would not be sacked from the team as a traitor.the whole premise of the film is based on the assumption that it was not just a game.and hence srk has this attitude.he wants to go for the kill.

But i dislike the larger point in the film which i have said elsehwere and which is why i was not very impressed with the climax (the scene where the sikh boy rubs off the “gaddar” word written on the wall of srks house). The way the vindication of a muslim is shown in the climax. Its wrong and i dont agree with it. It reinforces all the societal prejudices.thats where i think CDI failed ,if i may say so.

“issues that are bigger than the game and it goes beyond the playground…..the whole premise of the film is based on the assumption that it was not just a game.and hence srk has this attitude.he wants to go for the kill.”

Well, yes – in a way its true. But then sattar minute lecture is quite opposite to that.
I get ur point btw 🙂

          • Ritz 12 years ago

” It reinforces all the societal prejudices.thats where i think CDI failed”

Dont get this how u felt so. SRK was fighting all these prejudices in the movie ..while coaching girls… wasn’t he?

          • Baba Ji 12 years ago

yes you are right.but shimit could have shown the media and indian ppl in full support of srk once they qualify for the semis. Why must srks traitor tag be removed only if he wins the WC? he had already proved himself by then. The concept is similar to those 80s films where a muslim inspector also has to die in the film even if he is honest.Just being honest is not sufficient perhaps. There has to be a ‘sacrifice’! hope you understood 😀

          • I.One 12 years ago

“Why must srks traitor tag be removed only if he wins the WC? he had already proved himself by then” – That part was perfectly fine. If Shimit had such solidarity in middle, it would have shifted the focus of audience from tournament and SRK. There was still interest till the finals because audience wanted to see how the team wins and what would be the reaction after winning WC from the general public and media.

          • Baba Ji 12 years ago

I.one – yes but thats what the problem was.shimit doesnt go against the prejudice of the society/audience.but u r right that the drama in the climax would have suffered.

Well said. But there wud have been an criticism on that as well…as being too melodramatic etc …Raju Hirani style !

  6. Reddemon 12 years ago

CDI is a movie which demands it lead to be subtle, agressive, ignorant, intensive all at the same time and SRK truly nailed it. It further justifies my thoughts of SRK being one of the best talent in business gone waste in the company of Kjo farah adi.
On th post- i like almost all the scenes. My fav dia is ‘ wo kya hai na ki hamare hockey me chakke nahi hote’ and the ‘sattar minute’. For me CDI is the winner all the way!

  7. sputnik 12 years ago

    Found my favorite scene.

    https://youtube.com/watch?v=sbJ7iQtdGas

Now the movie should have ended with the winning scene itself but they put in a extra scene of SRK going back to his ancestral home. IMO it was not needed at all. The traitor tag being removed is a dumbed down scene.

    • Baba Ji 12 years ago

agreed.great scene .i liked the scene just before this too.when srk predicts which way the aussie player is gonna hit the ball.It was a good thrill scene. The indian goalkeepers intuition to look at srk at the last sec and srks gesture and eye contact is sufficient to get the message across.

@sputnik I find ending complete, though that removing Gaddar tag is lil cheesy but before that scene the way srk shown entering the same house, i find it complete. and if it would have not been there then i would hv felt incomplete abt the movie,
he was thrown out of the house and he returns back.. Also it add the drama….

    • Ipman 10 years ago

removing the gaddar tag is not just a “lil cheesy” scene. it undid what the movie was supposed to stand for.

      • saurabh sharma 10 years ago

got ur point… but how many people analyzed it… and it adds the drama.. so may be thats y they went for it… not saying that jaideep was right in doing this… now i think if they had treated this gaddar thing differently then it could have much more impact
