Hollywood/Foreign Movies that could have a remake in Bollywood

In Bollywood, movies are usually inspired/copied from Hollywood but this post is about movies that could have an official remake in Bollywood.

Prestige

The Prestige

Synopsis: Based on the highly acclaimed novel by Christopher Priest, The Prestige is set against the backdrop of Victorian London. It is the mysterious story of two magicians whose intense rivalry leads them on a life-long battle for supremacy full of obsession, deceit and jealousy with dangerous and deadly consequences.

Ever since I saw this movie I have thought they should remake this movie in Hindi with Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. It would need great writing skills to adapt this movie into the Indian context but I think it would be great if Aamir and SRK starred in a movie like this. I think the real life rivalry will add to the movie. Hugh Jackman’s role will have to be made more even with Christian Bale’s role though.

My choices. Aamir Khan in Hugh Jackman’s role. Shah Rukh Khan in Christian Bale’s role. Katrina or Deepika could play Scarlett Johansson’s role. Amitabh could play Michael Caine’s role.

A Note on Commando

Following is not essentially a review but more of what I feel about action movies with Commando being the case in point.

Speaking strictly from a business perspective, wouldn’t it make more sense if there were more movies that catered to the vast male population who are hungry of some quality action cinema?

The Box office verdict of a movie like Commando does not contradict or negate my aforementioned question. Commando is just a first in the line (hopefully) of some others to follow. A small budget action movie centered on a hugely talented Vidyut Jamwal and his breathtaking stunts, Commando serves exactly what has been missing from the Hindi movie Action scene.

Have you ever wondered why Die Hard is such a celebrated and loved movie all around the world? So much so, that when every other year, a new Die Hard movie comes to screen, people do think about giving the first one a watch again-just because of the sheer mention of the title!! It’s because, Die Hard shows what most action lovers want to see in a movie- “Believable Action” In the fight of one vs. many, you can’t win based on your muscles or your heavenly presence; you can only win because of your skills and your intelligence.

Just Back from Commando

I had said before I will watch the film for Vidyut Jamwal and now i can safely say he alone is worth the money. If there is a star today who reminds us of the Akshay of 90s , then its Vidyut. At many points in the film, he gives the Khiladi nostalgia. Back in the 90s, in his films like KKK and Mohra, Akshay showed that Indian heroes can do the spinning back kicks and use the Nunchaku with as much ease as the Van Dammes . Vidyut takes that legacy forward and proves what Tony Jaa and Scott Adkins can do, he can do as well.

The introduction of Vidyut is nothing less than a celebration of his histrionics. This commando can do handstand pushups, one leg squats, spartan push ups with as much ease as walking in the garden. His intro fight is easily the best choreographed action sequence in Bollywood for a long time and matches the global standards of martial arts action. The ease with which he carries out his back flips, corkscrew kick, jumping through a car window and over it, vidyut makes all so-called action heroes Salman and Ajay look like school-going kids. People run on road, Vidyut runs on people!

Commando Movie Review by Taran Adarsh

Recall actors who started as antagonists, but switched to positive characters effortlessly… Several decades ago, Vinod Khanna and Shatrughan Sinha portrayed negative roles at the onset of their respective careers. Much later, Shah Rukh Khan acted in a series of career-defining [grey] characters, before he got labeled as the romantic icon of Hindi cinema. Now Vidyut Jammwal, who made his debut with FORCE, undergoes an image makeover with COMMANDO. He’s cast as the conventional Hindi film hero after acting in FORCE and a couple of South Indian films as ‘villain’. He fights an army of baddies single-handedly in COMMANDO. Also romances the heroine in his second Hindi outing…

COMMANDO is expected to change the action landscape of Bollywood, with Vidyut partaking in never-witnessed-before action sequences, hand-to-hand combat, mid-air splits and somersaults, extreme acrobatics et al, all done *without* body double or cables, but by the actor himself. In that respect, COMMANDO takes action in Hindi movies to another level. The skeptics may argue, we have seen it all in movies starring Tony Jaa, but COMMANDO is, perhaps, the first Hindi movie that attempts to showcase a series of death-defying, high-octane stunts performed by the lead man himself. Naturally, Vidyut is being peddled as the new action hero of Bollywood.

Before Kai Po Che – Rajeev Masand’s Gossip Column

If all goes well, Aishwarya Rai should begin working on her comeback project sometime this year.

Referring to the uncertainties of the business and its ability to surprise even veteran players, William Goldman, the Oscar- winning screenwriter of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, had once famously said: “In Hollywood, no one knows anything.” This is true of Bollywood as well.

The success of Kai Po Che has reinforced the fact that even successful stars and established producers can be wrong in their assessment of a script’s potential. Director Abhishek Kapoor is being lauded for his decision to cast non-stars as his leads, but few are aware that he had, in fact, approached big actors for the film before having to settle for a relatively unknown ensemble.

According to industry sources, Imran Khan, Shahid Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor were all presented with the script. But each of them is believed to have separately said ‘no’ to Abhishek on the grounds that the story didn’t convince them. Ranbir, in particular, who has displayed a knack for picking quality projects so far, not only turned down the film, but also allegedly told Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani that he was “surprised” they were thinking of producing the movie (Abhishek was originally developing the project for Excel Entertainment).

It is hard to tell how much Farhan and Ritesh were influenced by Ranbir’s feelings when they finally decided to pass on Kai Po Che.

Bollywood’s Die Hard

Kareena, meanwhile, appears to have put her impending nikaah to Saif on hold and signed a fresh bunch of films.

Filmmaker Vipul Shah, who made a string of hits with Akshay Kumar (remember Aankhen, Waqt, Namastey London, Singh is Kinng), is now reportedly banking on Vidyut Jamwal, who stole last year’s Force from right under John Abraham’s nose. Turns out Shah has sold the idea of a Die Hard-like trilogy with Jamwal in the lead to Anil Ambani’s Reliance Pictures, which has apparently agreed to bankroll the project.

It also appears that Shah has tied up the model-turned-action star in an exclusive contract that doesn’t allow him to so much as read other filmmakers’ scripts until he’s completed his three-film commitment to Shah.

Suddenly, Ranbir

Kareena Kapoor has made no bones about the fact that it pains her to see her rivals notch up blockbuster successes starring in films opposite her superstar cousin Ranbir Kapoor. She has said Katrina, Deepika and Priyanka “are having a field day” doing romantic movies with Ranbir— “something that I naturally can’t”.

No wonder she’s supposed to have jumped at Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara director Zoya Akhtar’s offer to star in a film that casts Kareena and Ranbir as sister and brother.

Now the funny thing is that the famously snotty Kapoor sisters—Karisma and Kareena—have never been close to Ranbir or his parents all these years.

Sudhir Mishra-Anubhav Sinha get together for an action film

‘Anubhav Sinha’s Ra.One seems to have become contagious. Now even a serious avant-garde director like Sudhir Mishra is changing genres for Anubhav. It’s surprising but Sudhir is planning to make “an out-and-out action film.”

Informs our source, “The script is a kick ass combination of cerebral and physical action, a kind of Bourne Identity meets Jackie Chan. It will have a huge star cast and some of the most elaborate action scenes seen on this side of the Hong Kong Kung Fu films.”

Apparently, Sinha’s friend Shah Rukh Khan is being persuaded to play the main lead, while Irrfan Khan, Arunoday Singh and Vidyut Jamwal are being slotted into the other parts.

The film is ready to go on the floors but may be pushed forward if Sudhir Mishra gets the final cast of his ambitious project Mehrunissa in place. The Big B is yet to give his final nod to Mehrunissa.

When contacted Sudhir Mishra admitted to collaboration with Anubhav Sinha saying, “We haven’t yet decided if that would be my next film. It all depends on Mehrunissa. If that takes off then I’ll do the film for Anubhav next.”‘
