Dabangg 2 Movie Review by Rajeev Masand

Rating: 2.5

December 21, 2012

Cast: Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Arbaaz Khan, Vinod Khan, Prakash Raj, Deepak Dobriyal, Nikitin Dheer

Director: Arbaaz Khan

Given that Dabangg 2 is a family production in every sense of the term – Salman Khan stars, his brother Arbaaz directs, Arbaaz’s wife Malaika Arora produces, and their sister Alvira Agnihotri does costumes – you can’t help but wonder why no one thought of roping in their father, veteran screenwriter Salim Khan, to slap the script into shape. Because while there’s some fun to be had watching Chulbul Pandey bash up the bad guys again and share a tender romance with his missus, nothing even remotely interesting happens in this film.

Now posted in Kanpur, our swashbuckling police officer hero applies his unique but unconventional methods of dispensing justice to keep kidnappers and thugs off the street. Having mended his relationship with his step-father (Vinod Khanna) and half-brother (Arbaaz Khan), and with his wife Rajo (Sonakshi Sinha) carrying his bun in her oven, Chulbul has none of the personal baggage he had to deal with in the earlier film. His only conflict here is with corrupt local politician Bacha Bhaiyya (Prakash Raj) and his hoodlum brothers, who have no regard for the law.

Dabangg 2 Takes Juggernaut Opening

Friday 21st December 2012 11.30 IST
Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Dabangg 2 has taken a juggernaut opening at the box office all across India. The single screens that open early are fantastic and when they open at large at noon it will be historic.

The multiplexes have also taken a record start with housefull shows across the board. Basically the opening of the film is at record pace but what normally happens on working days is that multiplexes start better as lower tickets rates but pace slackens slightly from noon and a bigger drop around around 4pm and they pick up again in the late evening while on the holidays the whole day remains superb.

The opening of the film has assured it the biggest weekend in history of Hindi cinema and that too by a distance.

Sanket’s Review: “Dabangg 2” reaffirms the thought that Salman can rise above the script in these roles.

Cast: Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Vinod Khanna, Prakash Raaj, Arbaaz Khan.

Director: Arbaaz Khan

Length: 2 hours approximately

I firmly believed that Salman’s DABANGG (2010) act was his best till date. Not anymore, because I have seen its extended installation. Arbaaz Khan’s directorial venture called DABANGG 2 is entertaining, courtesy Salman Khan. The film doesn’t boast of smart narrating, or gripping plot, but it surely gives you worth of every single penny, provided you can accept these mindless cinemas, today’s staple food, with open arms!

The film begins with all the same route in which its prequel started. Yes, even the sidekick of goons remains same. Arbaaz Khan manages to tackle their personality traits and add comic moments. The film takes lot of its time to come upon its major conflict. The confrontation with the antagonist, played by Prakash Raaj, is well built up. The family drama also takes its high and the sugary moments between Chulbul and his family easily grows upon you. But, the first half is too long and some of the part could have been easily shifted to second half.

There’s not much movement in second half of the film, although the last 30 minutes of the film are too fast and enjoyable!

Dabangg 2 Movie Review By Taran Adarsh

Rating: 4

The job of a promo is to send out accurate pointers to its target audience. The gist of the premise, the essence of what the characters will be, an extract of the milieu… one needs to furnish a general idea of what to expect when the spectator saunters into the cineplex to watch the film. Arbaaz Khan and Abhinav Singh Kashyap had a tough responsibility on their shoulders when they embarked upon DABANGG. As luck would have it, DABANGG was hailed as one of the best entertainers of that year, with Chulbul Pandey becoming a household name. The film consolidated Salman as the darling of the masses, a position he enjoys to this date.

With DABANGG 2, one is well prepared about what to expect. The sole factor that Arbaaz needs to worry about is whether DABANGG 2 would meet the towering and monumental expectations. More so, because Salman Khan is contending with himself. He seems to be raising the bar [in terms of business] with each film. WANTED, DABANGG, READY, BODYGUARD, EK THA TIGER… Salman has redefined superstardom with mass entertainers. He’s Boxoffice’s fav child and seems invincible and insurmountable at the moment!

With DABANGG 2, you know exactly what to expect.
