Best Male and Female performers of 2012- My views.

2012 has been a fascinating year. Few films had unprecedented box office success as well as audience’s acceptance, while few films did not really set the box office on fire but surely placed themselves in hearts of audience. Here are my bests of 2012 performances.

Male –

5. Sharman Joshi in Ferrari Ki Sawaari- In this small little heart warming film, Sharman Joshi plays a very adorable father and a martinet son. He packs an excellent performance and he has instant connect too!

4. Aamir Khan in Talaash- As a confused and depressed cop, Aamir Khan shines once again in a role which has its own oxymoronic rhythm. There are many layers to his characters and Aamir conveys his emotions through right blend of expressions and diction. He is not a perfectionist for nothing!

3. Irrfaan Khan in Paan Singh Tomar- Irrfan Khan is a veteran actor is a very obvious statement. In Paan Singh Tomar, Irrfan Khan once again delivers a riveting performance as the guy who has lost his patience when he is been rejected by police officer for demanding a basic and ethical action against illegal on-goings! A Significant performance in a significant film!

2. Ranbir Kapoor in Barfi- As the mute, deaf, charming and happy guy, Ranbir kapoor makes you feel his character.

Movies You Watched This Month – November 2012

The Dark Knight Rises starts off with a lot of build up about Batman. There are a lot of corny scenes and dialogues about Batman. Some scenes are excellent like the mid air plane scene, the football stadium scene and the initial fight scene between Batman and Bane. The pit scenes are the best scenes of the movie. The escape philosophy is very good. Christian Bale is good as Wayne and he has only a few scenes as Batman. Tom Hardy is excellent as Bane. The Bane character and his acts of destruction and the philosophy behind them seem inspired from the movie V For Vendetta. Gary Oldman’s character and Matthew Modine’s character are such cliches. Michael Caine’s character is totally unnecessary in the movie and even his acting was bad. Marion Cotillard is decent. I was able to correctly guess which character will turn out to be the bad one. So there was no big shocking twist. Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s character was so ridiculous. He goes around the city but never gets caught. Morgan Freeman’s character seemed inspired from James Bond movies. Movie was very long and could have used lot of editing. Its definitely overrated on IMDB. Does not deserve the 8.8 rating.

Anushka Sharma Interview on The Front Row with Anupama Chopra

Anushka Sharma has rapidly ascended Bollywood’s A-list. She is currently juggling projects with some of the biggest names in the Hindi film industry – Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan.

Here is an edited transcript from her conversation on “The Front Row with Anupama Chopra.”

Anupama Chopra: Anushka, let me start with an honest admission. When I first saw “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi,” I had a very lukewarm response to you and I think I wasn’t the only one.

Anushka Sharma: A lot of people did.  Actually, I’m really glad that you’re saying this because after “Band Baaja Baaraat” a lot of journalists kept telling me that you hit big time right after your first film and I had to actually correct them and say: “No, listen, that did not happen. I did not turn into an overnight star like other people did.”

Anupama: The film did well but there wasn’t so much raving about you. You didn’t pick up many best debutant awards and suddenly everybody woke up to you in “Band Baaja Baaraat.” But, between “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi” and “Band Baaja Baaraat,” how did you keep that faith?

Anushka: There was some quiet confidence I had inside me, somewhere.

An Elusive Leading Lady

With her long-gestation project, Happy New Year, finally scheduled to go on the floors in December, the film’s director, Farah Khan, is reportedly neck deep in finalising her cast. The film’s premise apparently involves a group of friends, bad dancers each, who must participate in and win the World Dance Championship. It’s no secret that Shah Rukh Khan, Boman Irani, Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham are more or less confirmed as the four male leads. It’s the film’s sole female lead who is yet to be cast, one hears.

Assistants working on the project reveal that the film’s heroine is to play a Bhandup bar dancer, who will join the men’s dance troupe for the championship. Despite early rumours that Priyanka Chopra was a shoo-in to land the part, word from the Red Chillies office is that the filmmakers are now thinking of other girls. Katrina Kaif was considered, but reportedly dismissed because “nothing about her says Bhandup”, and Kareena Kapoor “doesn’t have that freshness anymore”. Vidya Balan’s name cropped up too, but she was allegedly passed over because “she’s not in the shape they’d have liked her to be in”, and Deepika Padukone (“despite lobbying hard for the role”) doesn’t work because she’s already doing Rohit Shetty’s Chennai Express opposite SRK, which is likely to release just before Happy New Year.

Ishaqzaade Continues Excellent Run In Week Three

Ishaqzaade continued its great run in week three with rock steady collections. Delhi/UP grossed nearly 30 lakhs nett which is less than 50% drop from last week.

The collections on its third Friday should come in around 1 crore nett, if Mumbai circuit collections come in as strong as Delhi/UP, it may even be over 1 crore nett.

The way the film is performing it may even hit the 45 crore nett mark by the end of the third week or at least be very close it. Ishaqzaade and Vicky Donor are the only mainstream Hindi films which are still doing well while others like Department, Tezz and Jannat 2 have all faded away.

Ishaqzaade Continues to Be Strong On Second Monday

Ishaqzaade continued with strong business on its second Monday as it collected around 1.40 crore nett. Last Monday the film had collected around 2.75 crore nett meaning the Monday to Monday drop is less than 50%.

The total non performance of Department has helped the film and now Ishaqzaade is comfortably ahead of Department on a daily basis even though Department is first week and Ishaqzaade in its second week.

The film should reach the 45 crore nett mark as it will be be in the 37-38 crore nett range after two weeks and should be able to add 7-8 crore thereafter.

Ishaqzaade Has Good Second Weekend

Ishaqzaade had a good second weekend as it grossed 7.25 crore nett plus to take its ten day total to over 32.50 crore nett. The film sustained very well in Delhi/UP with business of around 1.90 crore nett.

The business of the film is similar to the lifetime business of Ladies vs Ricky Bahl in just ten days and with no major competition from Hindi films this week it should have another good week at the box office till the release of Rowdy Rathore.

Ishaqzaade is looking at lifetime business of around 42-45 crore nett which would be a very good total.
